IWeb and code

I'm super new to iWeb and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good iWeb resource to get the basics. Also, am I bound by the templates in iWeb? Can you plug in different template codes written by other people for use in iWeb? I want to set up a cool page with an online store and paypal links on a site I already have going with Dreamhost hosting my content. I had a pro set up the site and I can update by editing, copying and pasting the .php files but I'd like to have a link to a separate online store page. Since I don't know how to set this up from scratch in the same format as my site I thought I could use iWeb somehow and post a link on my site that directs people to an iWeb generated page.
I'm not sure if I'm making sense so any clarity would help.

It's only Safari/iOS7. Chrome iOS7 works fine.
Solution?
Go to YT and grab the code.
Paste it in a HTML Snippet.

IWeb and SimpleViewer Pro gallery issues

Hello all!
I have a simple viewer gallery (http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/) and I tried to upload the gallery on a page of my iweb site through IFRAME with this code:

the result is that iWeb crashes even before saving the html snippet, so I have to restart everything and nothing changes. So as soon as i paste the code in the html snippet iWeb stops responding.
Any help please?

Try the following:
1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
If that doesn't help continue:
6 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
7 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
8 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
9 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
10 - launch iWeb and try again.

IWeb and MobileMe Gallery

I am trying to upload pictures from the MobileMe Gallery. I have albums published but when I move the MobileMe widget to the web page I am creating it reads "No albums or movies". Please help.

I've jumpstarted the MMe widget with the following 2 fixes before:
Try this:
quit iWeb
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
launch iWeb and try again.
Ahother method that worked one time was:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
launch iWeb and try again.
HOWEVER, a way to embed your MMe gallery and not worry about fixes is to go online and get the URL of your MMe gallery and plug it into the following code in an HTML snippet:

Trying to load flash file in iWeb and when I enter info in the "html snippet" box a "missing plug-in" message comes up (although i have adobe flash player in, if that's the plug-in they're looking for). Anyone have any similar problems or solution. Thanks

when i publish my site and vew it the page on the web it just comes up with the file name w/ the ,swf and the "mising plug-in" message below. if i click on the file name it displays the flash file but gigantic (the entire height of the page).totally perplexed!

Deleted pages in iWeb and on hosting site but still appear in navbar?

I've deleted a couple of pages in a site built in iWeb and also deleted the files and html of those pages where my site is hosted (Earthlink). However, I'm still seeing the names of those pages in the navbar — NOT in iWeb, but when i actually access the site. The pages themselves are not there anymore, but their names remain in the navbar (and click through to an error msg).
This makes me think I haven't uploaded all the necessary changes. Where does the code for the navbar reside? I reloaded the home file+html (among other pages) but not the index.

If you are using the iWeb default navigation, try publishing to a local folder and upload the feed.xml with your FTP application.

IWeb and W3C Compliance... IE 6&7 Distortion?

I have a couple of questions, wondering what can be done for each of them.
1. I cannot get my site to validate with the W3C Validator.
2. My Site shows up weird and distorted in IE 6 & 7.
What should I be looking for/ doing to correct these problems?

I don't know anything about the W3C validation...
The Internet Explorer issues that you talk about, though, probably result from IE's inability to render PNG format graphics properly. What usually happens is that the page elements download one by one and everything that is PNG appears with a grey/blue box covering it. Then the iWeb .js code runs some on-the-fly conversion to make the PNGs render properly specifically for IE.
How to minimize this?
1. Minimize JPG to PNG conversion by iWeb (avoid resizing images or applying image effects with or inside iWeb....preprocess images)
2. Minimize the size of PNG graphics files to minimize download time and the length of time the grey boxes appear on screen

That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

I got a chance to look at it on a PC. Totally hosed up. It loads incorrectly then parts of it go blank.
I have a site that is based very much on one of the built-in templates and it works fine on the same PC. It contains only text boxes, image placeholders, and images with "picture frame" borders. Nothing fancy, no overlays, no extra code or anything. I haven't looked much at the other templates so I don't know if yours is mostly a template or how much you may have modified one or what tricks you may have done to get the look you wanted. Whatever it is, IE does not like it. Unfortunately, you can't really ignore them as was suggested; they make up a large part of your audience.

Using iWeb HTML code with email autoresponder software

Hi, I'd like to be able to use iWeb html code with an email autoresponder package, however, the text in the resulting emails is unformatted and has no images. My chosen company,AWeber, haven't been able to solve this yet for me (I've tried all the major autoresponder companies with same result).
I've tried hosting my email page both to Mac.com and www but it makes no difference.
I've seen similar queries in this forum - has anyone cracked it yet?

Not sure what you expect. Your URL is absolute and pointing to a local file resource. It's not a proper relative HTML link. Beyond that it's toatlly unclear how you actually plan to load your image and where they are hosted, so nobody can tell you anything. Either way, there is an obviously painful lack of understanding of even the most basic web techniques, so the best advise anyone would give you is to spend some time with a web search and actualyl learn some of that stuff...

Thanks in advance for the answers, but do you know how to link to the guestbook installed on my server, in iWeb, without iframes? I want to make a page with iWeb and integrate de guestbook in the middle of the page, but I don't want to do it with iframes.

IWeb and Blogger

I have been checking around on here to see if anyone has discussed using iWeb and a previously started Blogger page. Seems folks are touching on it but not quite discussing it fully. I even googled it and came up with nothing. Guess it's still too new?
Is it possible to post a blog made in iWeb to a Blogger page?
Is it possible to do it without having to host it on .Mac and then bounce the link?
Seems like there has to be a way but I am just not clever enough at this yet. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I asked the same question and got a couple of responses but there really hasn't been much discussion on this. I did try to drop in some of the html code into a blogger site when you go into the template area. I know nothing about HTML but what did occur was the general image of the iweb theme did appear on top of my old blogger site but not all of the photos came along for the ride. I'll go on a limb with this and hope I'm not way off but until someone who knows what they are talking about can verify this, I would take this with a teeny, tiny grain of salt:
You could probably integrate the theme of a iweb site into blogger but to get the blogger functionality into the site, that may take a bit of HTML programming skills - such as implementing comments, photos, and how new blog entries would be insterted. As I posted elsewhere, I'm a little less concerned than most about comments as should i make a site, it would be mostly a travel blog with photos, videos and perhaps some ramblings on places I've been but my biggest concern is .mac - it seems absurdly slow and I'm really not sure if I uplaod more than 3 or 4 travel videos that i'll have much storage space left - 1GB these days seems like a lot but it really isn't.

Iweb and how it converts to a pc

We have our business website in the latest ilife, Iweb and all looks good on our macbook but on other pc computers - the margins are all messed up. Photos are in the wrong place as well as logos. I am a mac user so I think apple needs to patch iweb so that it writes the proper code so that all browsers can use it.

If you are talking about modifying the code in the .html files created when you publish from iWeb, yes, your modifications will be overwritten if you republish, so they need to be added again.

Working with iweb and ATT webhosting

I made my business website on iweb and downloaded it through FTP to my att webhosting site because it was simple and easy through iweb's step by step process.
I'm new at website building and don't even understand the lingo when trying to read these blogs for more insight.
I want to build beyond the basics such as adding meta tags and checking my site hits but I'm not sure if I do it through my webhosting account or through iweb.
Anyone know where to go to find help how to work these two programs together?
Apple tech only help with iweb and most of the ATT tech don't know how to work iweb so it's hit or miss when talking to them depending on who answers your call.

To add meta tags to your site you need to do this in your site directly, but your published site so that it is added to the html code.
Download a programme called iWebSEO. Go to iWeb and publish your site to a local folder and then open your published site with iWebSEO and add the tags, Google analytics etc., and anything else you want. Then use either iWebSEO to upload to your server or use a dedicated ftp client such as Cyberduck to do this - it can be downloaded for free from the internet.
You can easily place a hit counter on your site by inserting the code into an html snippet on your site. Do a Google search for hit counters and you will have lots of choices.
