Iweb-blog its so so so slow!!!

when browsing my blog, a lot of people are complaining that they give up because it takes so long to upload, what can i do?
i use mobileme and i am i tech-not!!
please i want my site to be fast!

The best way is to forget about the iWeb blog and use something like Blogger!
Use several small blogs instead of one big one.
Reduce any image or audio files as much as possible.
Optimizing your files before uploading will increase speed noticeably.
If you use Blogger you can switch to another server rather than MobileMe and get faster download speeds.

The thing is, iWeb and its blog is of minor importance to Apple — if you switch to a dedicated blogging platform such as WordPress or Posterous you'll probably be happier. ...You'll see improvements to the blogging system more often than once a year and you won't have to periodically Publish All!
As it happens, at least one person is in the process of switching from iWeb's blog to WordPress right now — see HERE.

  • Iweb Blog ftp or mobile me?

I have just designed a website in iweb that I ftp through godaddy. Took a while to make that decision, but at least I have complete design control! I am doing pretty well and now at the search rankings stage and realize that iweb isn't great at that. Read some of the articles here on search rankings and downloaded the SEO guide and going to take actions with that, and also bought the godaddy search optimisation pack and intend to place the metatags/descriptions etc on my pages.
BUT, I now want to design a second site which is just a blog, which obviously isn't showing up through godaddy, so need to mobileme it. But, with a blog, how do you add the metatags etc to the pages, and are their individual pages for each blog posting? Does mobile me make it easy to go into each file and make the blog searchable? Just not sure whether to just design blog pages myself in iweb rather than their formatted ones, and use godaddy instead?
So, in short - mobile me with formatted iweb blog? or design own blog and ftp with godaddy - which makes the pages more searchable?

Welcome to the discussions. You'll probably have better luck making your blog pages more searchable if you use a dedicated blogging platform — most of them allow tags to be specified.
MobileMe is slow and problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums. For a success story with a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:
To blog or not to blog
And to link to an external blog from iWeb's navbar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (Actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).
SEO is important to you, but iWeb is designed for personal sites and, as such, Apple apparently thinks there's no need for Google. Web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate SEO — Sandvox Pro is an example:

  • Google Analytics Automator breaks iWeb blog comments

    Hi
I added a blog for our Small Business site that I created with iWeb. We used Google Analytics and the Automator script add the HTML snippet to track visits on our site. Since I added the blog I realized that after running the GA automator script the "Add a comment" link disappears.
Kinda defeats the purpose of the blog. I have to choose between tracking how many visitors have been on the blog, or visitors posting comments, but I can't have both. How can I fix this and track how many visitors were on our site, and have a blog where visitors can leave comments? Any ideas and solutions would be most welcome. Thanks,
    Zoltan

Unfortunately, as you have discovered, inserting Google Analytics into your site requires post editing. This means that you cannot just publish directly to MobileMe from iWeb - to insert the analytics you need to publish to a folder, insert and then place the Blog directly on your iDisk - unfortunately, this way you loose the features that your iWeb blog provides when published directly to MME - i.e. Blog comments.
Do you have an ordinary website too or is it just a blog? If you have an ordinary website, what some people do, including myself, is set up a blog with WordPress, E-blogger, or http://www.posterous.com and link to it from your iWeb site.
If you are just after setting up a blog on its own without a site, then I would suggest you look at http://www.wordpress.com, http://www.eblogger.com or posterous (link provided). You can set up a blog with any template you like and can add entries on line at any time, rather than being limited to updating with the domain.sites file as you are with iWeb.
In WordPress, you can also add as many pages as you like, so you can effectively have a website as well as a blog, so the other alternatives might be a better bet than iWeb and I think they have their own built in analytics too.

  • Is it possible to add an iweb blog post on a non-originating computer?

I created a blog in iWeb and all is great, but I want to be able to add posts from other computers (yes, Macs with iWeb). How do I access the iWeb file that has my template, etc? I looked in my iDisc, but couldn't find a recognizable file that I could open and add to. Is this even possible? Am I better off doing this via blogspot? Also, if this is indeed possible, can I do it from a computer that is using iWeb '07 (or whatever the version before '08 was)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
To edit one website from two different computers you have to transfer the Domain.sites2 file where iWeb stores its files. To find that file go to
    User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
If you can’t find it here search for it with spotlight. Note that the extension .sites (iWeb 1.0) or .sites2 (iWeb 2.0) may be hidden, also search for Domain only. To see if a Domain file is iWeb ’06 or iWeb ’08 select the file press Command(Apple)+i under "Name & Extension" you will find that it is .sites or .sites2.
To get the site showing up in iWeb just open the Domain.sites file by double clicking on it and your sites and pages will show up on the left side in the iWeb page browser. Note that the location, where you put the file, doesn’t matter.
BEST SOLUTION: If you put the Domain file on a USB-Stick (USB flash drive) all you have to do is plug the usb stick in one of the computers and double click the Domain file on the USB flash drive (without moving it to the computer!). It will open in iWeb and save changes to the USB stick, plug it into the second computer and same thing. You could publish a site from both the computers without missing data and without fearing of overwriting the older with the newer file.
Without the Domain file you can't edit the site in iWeb, sorry.
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • IWeb blog new entry not showing up after uploading

I have a blog on my iWeb website and the first entry uploaded just fine, but when I added a new entry it wouldn't upload and it didn't appear to have a file. Everything looked good in the iWeb app, its summary showed up on the blog title page, the entry was there on the entry page and it was also in the archive. Could it have anything to do with the fact I've entered google adsense code to the page?

I've discovered that the problem is that there is no new file for the new blog entry. The other blog entry was published to the site folder before I was online but now when I hit the publish button it goes straight to uploading to my site, and the new entry doesn't show up as it has no file in the folder. How can I get it to publish to the folder before it uploads?

  • Chinese on iWeb blog

Could anyone advise me on the following? I work at a boarding school with a number of Chinese students who use Xanga to keep online diaries. However, we try to keep them away from unsavoury content and apparently Xanga has plenty. I wondered whether if we set up a blog space for each student using iWeb and .Mac we could effectively create an alternative which is both cheap and easy to administer. Are there any problems that should be anticipated regarding Chinese (Cantonese) script or with control of content?
I'd much appreciate some advice. Thanks.

I would not anticipate any problem with Chinese.
More important for your purposes might be the unusual way in which iWeb stores its data. Unlike other blogs, you can't just log on to a website with your browser and hit the "new post" button. You have to have to run iWeb and have it use your personal Domain file, which each student would need to keep separately, for example on a flash drive (and be careful to backup frequently as well).

    It's only Safari/iOS7. Chrome iOS7 works fine.
    Solution?
Go to YT and grab the code.
Paste it in a HTML Snippet.

  • IWeb blog, photo albums requires us to enter the site name on every entry?

Every iWeb blog entry gets a heading of something like "My Site" or "Tom's Photography." This means we have to retype the name of our site +in addition to+ the actual title of every blog post.
Does this not seem annoyingly tedious to anyone else? Did the iWeb team really screw this up, or am I missing a setting somewhere? This also happens on photo album pages; the page for every new album dragged in from iPhoto or Aperture gets a generic title of "Tom's Photography" or something. Pretty annoying. Can anyone helps?

that's cool and everything, but someday when I have hundreds of posts and I want to change the title on the top, I will have to manually change each one. For some reason I think Apple would have thought of this. It seems like a no-brainer...?
Still need someone to help out on this.

  • Can photo albums be viewed on iWeb blog if you don't have 08?

Recently tried to create a blog with a couple of my photo albums on it. Unfortunately I am having some trouble doing it. I hope don't need the new iLife to do that task. I tried to click and drag he photo album from I photo onto the iWeb blog page...to no avail.

bitslap47, thanks for your input as well.
Unfortuneately, I'm a real newbie, and though I have Outlook 2002 I never used it for my contacts, so I have to input them somewhere, so I 'think' the easiest way for me is to input them directly into the Outlook Express and save me the 'possible' pain of transferring.
But THANK YOU for the information which I will save for future use.
    Thanks again:)!

  • Most Popular Entries in iWeb Blog. Possible??

I want to put a box in my iweb blog that will contain the most viewed (most popular) entries I have in the blog so they could be easily accessible. Is it possible because Im searching the net but I cannot find anything... What do you think?

There is a workaround that involves quite some work to do by hand.
    1. Get a Google webmaster account
    2. Add the Google Analytics code to your HTML files (post publish editing)
    3. Look at the results on a regular base to see what Blog entry is most popular
    4. Show the most popular Blog entry in an iFrame (you'll have to change them by hand)
This is a summary. Feel free to ask for details.
    Kind regards,
    Leo

  • Could an iWeb blog page be modified to...

...parse wordpress entries so that they appear "iWeb'sh" even though being created and maintained in Wordpress?

I'm having similar problems with the automatic RSS Feed link that the iWeb blog page uses.
I also figured I could create my own custom RSS icon/link for the page, but that still doesn't resolve the issue for the RSS Feed link that is automatically generated by the Firefox or Safari browsers I'm online with a MobileMe Support rep now (crossed fingers)

  • How to copy iWeb blog to new iWeb site?

    Hi Folks,
I am able to successfully move, via drag and drop, my blog from an old iWeb site to a new one in iWeb.
However, what I want to do is to preserve the old blog as a backup, and them start updating and chagging the blog contet in the new iWeb site. I actually use the blog on my site as a way to list courses.
I've tried to copy files in the iWeb site files, and then reopen iWeb, and I can't see the blog page listed.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Inoshi

To be able to drop and drag from one site to another in iWeb, you firstly need to have iWeb 09.  You then need to open the relevant domain.sites file and you need to have the sites underneath each other, so Site1 above and then Site2 below and all you do is just click on the Blog page on Site1 and just drag it over and down to Site2.
You can't do it individually, but you need to drag from one site to another.
I would also advise that you don't use the iWeb blog, as it is not that good and there are better alternatives out there.
You might like to look at some new software too such as EverWeb - http://www.everwebapp.com.  It is very like iWeb, but is actively supported and developed whereas for the last 2 years, iWeb has not been and has not been sold by Apple either.
If you wanted a better blogging system, you could transfer your whole website into WordPress.org.  You need to install it on a server at your web host, but it might serve you better and you can create a blog it you want to and you can extend it with the use of plugins.  Would not take too long to re-create depending on the size of your site and it is relatively easy to use compared to the other CMS's.
Think about changing before iWeb becomes unusable.

  • Importing iWeb Blog to Blogger

It seems impossible to export my iWeb Blog feed and then import it to Blogger... are there any work arounds? iWeb has limitations that aren't good for the blog set up. I'd like to use it for something else and move my blog to blogger. Thanks in advance.

If you want to be able to transfer your blog comments from MobileMe to another blogging platform, there is more support for doing this via the Wordpress blog.

  • How can I redirect iWeb Blog to Wordpress

Hi - I'm looking to redirect my iWeb blog to a temporary WordPress blog and was hoping there was some code I could use to do this? Or can I do this directly in iWeb?
    * Would I download the Index.html file to do this to add code? Then reupload to iDisk when finished?
Is there a standard redirect code for me to use? I'm looking to have readers type web.me.com"username" - and be directed to a Wordpress blog site.
Thanks in advance for any help -

You can add the following code to an HTML snippet on your iWeb blog page:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO PAGE ON SITE YOU WANT TO REDIRECT TO"; </script>
When someone lands on your iWeb blog they will immediately be redirected to your other blog.
