IWeb don't open site on usb stick

I have my domain-file on an usb-stick. Today iWeb (3.04) did not show my site when I clicked the file. The program launches, but is empty and wants me to start a new site. The file still works with iWeb on another older mac. But I usually only use it with the newer one (OS 10.7.1)

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Trouble opening Jar from USB stick on a Mac

    Hi all,
Has anyone else had any problems running Jar files from a USB stick on a Mac -- directly clicking on them in the finder?
    What I've found:
    - I cannot run any Jar file I try if it is on a USB stick and I double-click on the jar file in my Mac
    - I CAN run jar files from a CD by double-clicking
    - I CAN run jar files from USB sticks on Windows directly from the window
    - I CAN run jar files from a USB stick on a mac if I call "java -jar" directly from the terminal
I have tried running from USB sticks on several different Macs, and I've tried a number of different Jars that I've created over the years -- nothing works. The Java code isn't doing any path-based finding of files or anything like that.
Anyone else tried this? Are there any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Try this:
With the stick plugged in, go to Finder->Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility.  From there, you should see your memory stick appear in a sidebar on the left.  Click on it, then click on the "erase" tab and follow the instructions.

  • Safari don't opens sites with private certificates

    Hi,
if I try to open e. g. my WebMail site or the time recording website of my current customer which are both protected by a private generated certificate, Safari reject opening the sites and says that the server would not respond.
But with Firefox or Slimbrowser I do not have any problems to open this pages. And I don't find any setting to change this behavior.
Does anybody has an idea what to do to open those pages?
    Sighing greetings

Could it depend on problems with the proxy over here? Because on my notebook I've no problem to connect to my WebMail interface (even if it seems that Safari has much problems to show it in the right way).

  • Pages don't open--site hangups?

I am using 10.4.6 on a mac-mini, Safari, and my internet connecton is dial-up through Draytek external modem (my only choice). I have noticed for some time that after I have been on the net for awhile, and visited 5-10 sites, the pages will begin to fail to open. The blue highlight in the address bar will only go as far as http: and stop. I have closed and reopened Safari, emptied cache, rebooted, and reconnected to Internet, but none of these seem to solve the problem once it starts. This can be on any kind of sites, including Apple support, ebay, etc., as well as the one-offs.
I am aware this could be a problem with my (Italian) ISP and their server, and not caused at my end of the cable, but what triggers it? Seems to work fine for awhile, then switches into the hang-up mode, and it happens often, but not every time I am connected. I would appreciate anything else I could look into or try to narrow the problem, just so I know what I am dealing with, and I could adjust the settings, try later, or whatever. Thanks for info and your experiences.

    Hello
May you pack the xxx.Pages document thru the "Make an archive…" item of the Finder's menu File?

Mel,  Sure, although that is "copying," not "burning."  It is easily done, as follows:
Insert the USB stick into your computer, and open it up so it looks like a folder.  Highlight the songs you want in iTunes, and drag them into the folder.
If you normally run iTunes in full screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.

  • Problem Opening Site Files in iWeb 3.0.4

Having a problem opening different sites, I use seperate iWeb files for each site in one folder and now only one default site will appear when opening iWeb or trying to open any different site(file). I've done permissions and restarts but still no success. This just started the other day, I would appreciate any advice, thanks in advance.

Plug the stick and/or card into the appropriate slots on the side of your Air. Do you see icons for the devices appear on the desktop? Click into them to see what files are there.

  • Why can I not open photos loaded on USB stick from iPhoto on any other computer than a Mac?

I recently loaded a USB stick with various photos from iPhoto & these do not appear when attempted to be opened in My Documents on a Windows computer. Is there any way of fixing this issue?

Check the formatting of the USB stick. You have probably formatted the stick for Mac with a file system MacOS Extended (Journaled). This file system cannot be read by a Windows computer.   Save the photos to different drive and format the USB stick using Disk Utility to a file system both computers can read, MS-DOS   should work.
Disk Utility is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

  • So just the document I was last working on in pages won't open. I can't email it either it just sits preparing the document no matter what format I try. I can copy it, but the copies don't open either.

So just the document I was last working on in pages won't open. I can't email it either it just sits preparing the document no matter what format I try. I can copy it, but the copies don't open either. I tried deleting documents in pages as well as the app and reinstalling it, but nothing has helped.

Try quitting Pages and then reset your iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.
Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

When I opened iweb it opened as a file I deleated. I have a published website with godaddy and would like to update. How can I open the existing iWeb app to the site that is already published?

You cannot retrieve the already published site as iWeb CANNOT open it - it has no import facility.
You need your domain.sites file, which you can find under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  You do not need any kind of account for this because it is your domain.sites file that resides on the hard drive of your Mac anyway.  Find this file and you can alter your website.
Use a spotlight search to try and find it and if this does not work you can download something called Find Any File.  If you really can't find it, then you'll have to start from scratch because iWeb cannot open a site that is already published.

Actually this is the Aurora development channel as Nightly currently has 34.0a1 active on it. Note that both Aurora and Nightly channels gets checkins almost everyday so therefore they get a update each of those days which can sometimes have regressions or issues that may get fixed or reverted the next day.

  • USB Sticks don't mount

After having returned from a two week vacation my 2 USB-Sticks (SanDisk 1 G and Yakumo 512 MB) suddenly don't mount anymore. If I start DiskUtility it keeps spinning and spinning, if I pull the Stick out DiskUtility stops spinning and shows the stick (which isn't there anymore). This happens on all three OS-X systems I have! I cannot even reformat the sticks. I have all the latest updates installed.
    Frans

I hope you didn't have valuable data on your USB sticks.
If you can't get them recognized and formated by Disk Utility on 3 different computers, I'd try to return them to the store.
There's no perfect solution for file storage. (Flash based) USB sticks, harddrives, DVDs can fail without warning you, so you should always keep backups available. Read http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/backuprecovery.html and search this forum. There are other utilities like Carbon Copy Cloner (free) and Superduper. You don't have to use Retrospect.

  • IWeb Can't open file "~/Sites/index.html."

when trying to either launch iWeb or open one of my web pages - I get an iWeb dialog box that states "Can't open file "~/Sites/index.html."
    any advice?

    Hello Felicia,
iWeb is not capable of opening "HTML" files iWeb will only open a ".sites2" file type which is an iWeb domain file type. I would suggest doing a search for ".sites2" on your computer

  • In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. Help!

In trying to transfer iWeb pages (not uploaded) to another computer I went into the Library and transferred the domain onto the desktop. Disaster! On opening iWeb all previous (uploaded) sites have disappeared. On opening the domain all I can recover is the many component parts, and when unzipped the code. Help! Mike

Code in a domain file - really?  That is not possible because the domain.sites file does not contain any html or css code at all - the domain file is your iWeb data file and you won't see any code until you publish your website.
If you can see html code, then you have the wrong file and it is a published version of your site which iWeb can do nothing with - iWeb has no import facility so cannot open any html files.
Go back and ensure that you have the correct domain.sites files that can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and if you have Mavericks then you need to go to Go and press the alt key to reveal your hidden User Library, so that you can then get to Application Support and then iWeb and then your domain.sites file.
You will also need to go and download either DomainCracker or iWebSwitch which allows you to open individual domain files under Mavericks, because from Lion onwards, you cannot open individual domain files.
Also, it says that you are still using iWeb 08?  If this is so, you'll either need to upgrade to iWeb 09 by going to Amazon and purchasing the iLife 09 or 11 boxed set, both of which contain iWeb 09 or you need to switch to newer software that is actively being supported and developed such as EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com).
