IWeb Hosting or FTP???

I am not sure where the question belongs or even how to ask. I have a site already hosted through Domains Priced Right which is somehow affiliated with GoDaddy. I want to use the site address that I have on Domains Priced Right with a site that I use iWeb to design. I want to maintain my account with Domains Priced Right so how do I transfer the name from that site to the iWeb site.
hanks for any assistance!
PEace,
Jim

In iWeb you setup the info to publish wherever it is you publish.
iWeb will use the provided domainname to create links, especially the RSS links, in your pages.
In iWeb click the Sitename in the Sidebar and choose FTP as the publish method.
Fill in the details.

Publish your site to a local folder using the second method shown on this page if you are using iWeb V 3...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... or from the file menu if you are using iWeb V 2.
    Set up your hosting account...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Website-Hosting.html
Login to your hosting account with Yummy and browse to the local folder on the left side of the window.
Drag the index.html file and the folder across and drop them into the root folder on the server.
Alternatively you can upload the files like this...

  • IWeb and GoDaddy FTP

Ok so I have an iWeb site already that I use with MobileMe. Now I want to add another site using godaddy ftp. So I follow the instructions that godaddy gives enter my username, password, etc and test the connection. It fails every time. I really do not know why it is not working or what is wrong. Should I call godaddy? or what.
    Thanks,
    Jordan

Firstly, do you have a hosting account set up with Godaddy? If not, then it won't work.
Also, iWeb 09 built ftp is notorious for not being that reliable. I would suggest that you download either Cyberduck or Transmit for free and use either of these to upload your other site.
You also should have been given a username and password when you set up your hosting account with Godaddy - if nothing works then you need to contract them, but try Cyberduck or Transmit first.

How to publish my site iWeb on a FTP servor since Mobilme is no longer available ?

You might want to check out third party hosts like Machighway or Hostexcellence or others who offer low cost website hosting. They will give you the info you need to plug into iWeb's ftp page to upload the site. they cost less than mobileme and offer more.

  • IWeb communication with FTP serve

I am trying to publish from iWeb to an FTP server. I have done this before with no problem. But using all the same settings, to update the site and replace pages, I keep getting the message,
    PUBLISH ERROR
There was an error communicating with the FTP server try again later, or check with your service provider.
I have tried later for a week, with no luck.
I have checked with the service provider who confirms all is ok.
I have checked all the settings. The field path is blank, but I never filled this in the past and filling it now just brings up the message, path not recognised.
When I test the connection in iWeb (With path left blank) it confirms I can publish.
When I publish, it prepares the files and tells me publishing will continue in the background. Then after a while the message error message appears. It feels as if it is getting stuck.
I did try going round iWEB by using iWeb to create the site, publishing it to the local folder and then using classic FTP uploading the site to the host server URL. It works, but with errors and 404 messages leaving some pages either marked as 404 errors and others with bits missing.
    Anyone got any thoughts.

Try publishing to a local folder and then uploading your site with either Cyberduck or Transmit and see if this makes a difference.
Check that all your files are being uploaded too - error messages can occur due to this.
If you are sure that you have done everything correctly - publishing your site to a local folder, and then filling in the correct username, password and ftp details in either Cyberduck and Transmit and checking to see that all files have been uploaded to whichever folder you need to upload them to - public_html, htdocs or whatever, then I would suggest that you contact your hosts technical support department to see why you keep getting error messages.
Do you have Linux or Windows hosting? Linux is always better for iWeb sites, so if you have Windows then try and change it.

  • Publish iWeb private with FTP

    Hello,
Due to the MobileMe end, today I publish my site, made with iWeb, to a FTP server. The first problem I noticed is that there is no option for privacy. Any work around for this?

Password protection is done on the server and you can protect individual pages if you want...

Hi - I think I might be having similar issues. I have been using iWeb for over a year and uploading via FTP to Bravenet. Recently, I have been getting error messages (depending on the FTP client, as I have tried three of them, before realising it wasn't the FTP app) such as 'connection lost' and 'error in transmission' etc. Through opening a ticket with the Bravenet helpdesk we have worked out that the files that won't upload are files with symbols in the names ( i.e. ' or - ). He suggested that I remove the symbols, which of course I can't do, as the underlying code (I'm assuming) would need to be changed to reflect the changes in the filenames.
I am assuming that the filenames from iWeb have always been the same, which leads me to presume that there is a problem with Bravenet or that they have changed their rules. However I was curious to hear if anybody else has had the same problem, and if there is a fix? Many thanks.

  • What happens to iweb hosting when mobileme ends?

I cuurently host a website with iweb/mobileme... what will happen to hosting when mobileme switches off?

I opened an account with GoDaddy, and moved all my iDisk files to their "OnLineFileFolder" system.  I also created space for iWeb hosting.  With the help of their telephone support (which is excellent), I was able to re-publish all my iWeb sites to their system, and it works fine.  From reading the other replies, there appears to be several solutions for iWeb hosting elsewhere.
Here is a sample of iWeb posted on GoDaddy:

  • Is iWeb MobleMe or FTP Hosting Faster?

I have a site created with iWeb... I use MobileMe to host the site... I have received complaints that it is slow to load... Would FTP hosting on GoDaddy lets say, load the site faster when viewed?

Uploading to a commercial hosting service will increase download speed and also give you wider bandwidth and better reliability. However, the biggest improvement will come from optimizing your files before upload.....

  • TS2167 iWeb: publish by ftp to GoDaddy webhosting service - get "publish error" at end of ftp session - always 1-2 files not successfully transferred - Why?

Why do I get message "Publish error There was an error communicating with the server.  Try again later, or check with your service provider" when i publish websites to webhosting service (GoDaddy.com) from iWeb 3.0.4  even though most webpages have been transferred and are marked blue?   There are always a few pages marked red after each ftp transfer?   It seems that the ftp session is terminated by web hosting service too fast for iWeb 3.0.4. to register that files have been transferred successfully.  When I check pages marked red in iWeb with browser, they are often available and functioning.     I have to add many extra webpages (which I do not want) to get iWeb to register all my pages as transferred (marked blue).  If I do not do this, all pages on website are marked "red" after I close iWeb and restart it.   This means that everytime i make one little change to one page on a website of 8-10 Gigabytes,  I often have to republish the entire site!
I think (without understanding enough/anything about ftp protocolls and termination negotiations) that iWeb is not getting enough time at end of each ftp session to register that all the pages have in fact been transferred successfully.   Could this be the explanation?  If so, how do I "slow down" the termination of ftp session by my web hosting service GoDaddy so that iWeb 3.0.4 can see that all files have been successfully transferred and therefore should be marked blue?

You're rather prone to problems, aren't you. It's not the first time.

Which is the culprit site :

And since you do not use iWeb's ftp, but publish to a folder, iWeb's job is done.
You are now 100 percent responsible for your actions.
Upload the files properly. And if you're not blind visually challenged, you can see for yourself where the files are on the server. No need for GoDaddy eyes.
And why not use iWeb's FTP. Then at least you eliminate the human error.
And no, GoDaddy won't have to help you with iWeb, because there's nothing to fix.
And practice FTP first on your computer :

    Good luck.

  • IWeb transfer by FTP

As advised last year, I have carefully carried out the transfer of my web-site by FTP and now find that not only has it cost me nearly £200 to register with a new host (iPage) , I am now told that I cannot update or add to the site like I did with iWeb, unless I open and create a new site with them (at even more cost!).
Although you have suggested that I can continue with web.me.com until June, after changing to the new host I can no longer access my old site!
    What should I have done?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
Also if you're considering getting a new host for your website look at HostExcellence.  It has very good rates ($3.95/mo with a 2 year commitment) and is easy to publish to and has excellent ear-to-ear customer support.  This link has links to additional pages describing how easy it was to use HE: Life After MobileMe.   There are many hosting services with similarly low prices.  So don't get stuck by what seems to be an unscrupulous outfit.

  • Iweb publishing via ftp

I'm trying to publish using ftp on iweb and have an issue with where it puts files on my server. Because the name of my site is entered int he publish settings it publishes everything to that named folder. I would like to know if anyone else had this issue and if they got round it? I just want to publish straight to my httpdocs folder on my host server but I can't seem to work out how to do that right now.

    Thanks for the help.
Have now got hte site up there but the way that iweb has created the pages is pretty poor to be honest. Have you had similar issues with no css styles, text fonts not applied. I mean the pages look nothing like what they did locally. Do you know of a decent xhtml editor that people use on macs so that I can play with the code a bit?
Apologies for all the questions, moved to mac recently - great for everything except building websites so far. Maybe it will only work well with mobile me?

  • Iweb Publishing via FTP -- can't change the site

I am updating a site built in iWeb, now using v. 3.0.4
It has always been hosted externally and I upload using the FTP in iWeb.
I made some updates today (principally to add a link to a Facebook page). I republished the entire thing (it's only two pages). iWeb said it published fine.
I visited the new site, and there were no changes. I have cleared the browser cache upward of 10 times with no result. I have also tested the FTP connection and it's working fine.
Any suggestions as to what I might be missing?

Actually, I figured it out ... I needed to change the directory/path information.
