IWeb Improvement Request

I don't know about everyone else here, but I use my iWeb to write a blog... I find it so annoying that i have to do this blog from my Mac all the time, I'll liek to request a feature to allow you to update the blog sections online without the application (i'm quite happy to reserve this to mobileme members)
What does everyone else think?

  • Where to submit DPM feature improvement requests?

    Where's the best place to submit DPM product "improvement" requests to Microsoft for their consideration?

    Hi Mike,
    Please accept the following feedback:
    When DPM writes SQL databases from replica to tape, it rewinds the tape after every database, causing needless wear on the tape and tape drive.  Today DPM is writing SQL databases to the end of a tape (at approx. the 2TB mark on an LTO5 tape),
    and it's taking over 10 minutes of tape travel time for a 5MB database, then another 13 minutes for the next 4MB database.  In the last three hours it's written 16 databases, taking over 10 minutes each time, their total size is less than 90GB,
    and DPM rewound the tape after every database.
    Please review the tape handling to ensure needless tape rewinding does not occur. We want SQL (and other) tape backups to stream data to the drive continuously until the tape is full.

  • IWeb Improvement Suggestions

    Thought I'd post this here to see what everyone else thinks. I originally sent the email to the iWeb Feedback address. (BTW, I know that you can upload only updated pages to a third-party host, but, let's face it, it's a needlessly real pain in the neck.)
    "Hi,
    I've been using iWeb since about a week after it first came out in '06. I've been very happy with it -- despite some issues, some of which were fixed in the '08 version (like knowing when text is being converted into an image) -- and have stuck with it, despite investigating RapidWeaver and SandVox. Basically, I know the app pretty well by now but lately I've noticed a few things that are missing or could be improved.
    a) You have got --simply got to -- allow people FTPing to outside hosts to publish only updated pages. This is the Number One complaint among experienced users, I think. I understand that you're trying to push people in the direction of .Mac hosting, but you're not persuading anyone (I have a .mac account, by the way). Your servers are way too slow to handle real websites and all you're doing is seriously irritating users. I came pretty close to switching to RapidWeaver SOLELY because of this pointless bit of aggravation. I saw a couple of other guys a few days ago on your forums writing that they had in fact gone to RapidWeaver for this reason and were dropping iWeb as a result. In short, in this respect, RapidWeaver (or any web-design app) beats the pants off you.
    b) The Zoom facility needs major attention. When I'm working with iWeb I find myself leaning in to the screen to focus on one small part of the page. You need to integrate a magnifying tool of some sort. This would make things a lot easier for a lot of people.
    c) Along the same lines, I'm hankering for a quick-and-easy "ruler." The blue guidelines you have are fantastic, but when I'm trying to line up things or measure exact distances between objects/text, I really need a ruler to judge pixel distance, etc. When I'm doing at the moment is drawing a line, moving it to the right spot, cutting it to length, and judging from there whether the distance between, say, two text boxes is appropriate. This is an unnecessarily onerous and time-consuming process -- and it's not even that accurate.
    d) I'm a journalist and author, and I'd really appreciate some templates/themes that captured "writing" stuff: typewriters, pens, quills, paper, gold-embossed letters, and NEWSPAPER-TYPE COLUMNS.
    e) You need clearer and more obvious instructions to help people learn about web-safe fonts. The flood of queries and comments in the Forums from people wanting to know why their website looks different in Explorer is neverending. The problem is that they blame iWeb, not Explorer, which is an admittedly atrocious browser. What I would really like is some ability to "see" the iWeb website in various browsers BEFORE I publish it to a folder or .mac. There must be some way of replicating a browser-shot within iWeb so that people's frustration would be immensely reduced at the outset. What's happening now is that I have to publish to a folder, upload it via CyberDuck to GoDaddy, then check out what the site looks like in PC Explorer and Firefox. If something small needs to be changed, I have to do it all over again -- and since you refuse to allow us to publish only altered pages, this whole process of changing one tiny thing can take up close to an hour. And my website's only about six pages long! I don't even want to think about what happens if you have 36 or 56 pages.
    f) Please oh please oh please introduce expanding menus, accordions, and the like . . .
    g) What is up with the inability to handle more than a single Site at a time and being unable to split them up before publishing? Thank goodness for the third-party developers who have come up with ways to get around this, but to tell you truth, they shouldn't need to. Fix this asap.
    h) The Blog pages need work. I tried to start a blog for the website using iWeb and, though it looks OK, I've edging heavily towards only providing a link to WordPress or Blogger and keeping it there instead. Why? Because, I'm using the Darkroom template (which comes with Futura font) with Trebuchet (because Futura is not web-safe, thanks to Mr. Bill Gates, meaning that I have to change everything to an image). Now, on the Entries page, Trebuchet works fine, but on the landing Blog page, no matter how many times I change the font to Trebuchet and save, it always reverts to the Futura default as soon as I leave it in IWeb and come back -- which of course will lead to problems with Explorer. On top of that, if I have to update the blog, say, twice a day, your rule on publishing and uploading every single page again makes the whole blogging thing a real chore. I'd vastly prefer keeping the blog on my own website, but you're kind of forcing my hand.
    i) OK, that's about it."

  • EWB 10+ Improvement Request

    Well, since some time now I whish EWB 10+ would offer a more advanced component search capability. As a user, I like to be able to narrow a search let's say of a
    diode, within the diode database that can handle let's say a reverse bias of 1000V. Or in the same scenario, I like to find a NPN Transistor that can handle 2A at 50V
    and/or 200W for example....
    Listing all these part numbers in the Database is great, provided one knows them all. I certainly have not the time all day long to digg through datasheets of these listed
    PN's to eventually come accross a component I could use in my design.
    Just a 'limited' text search does not cut it !!!! We have the year beyond 2000, so please let's make use of the computing technology not only for the actual simulation but
    also for user friendlyness. I hate to do manual and dumb search tasks.
    MS Windows provides way more than needed for that.
    So far version 10 is a great imporovement over all the other versions, keep improving it while maintaining ease of use and the same user interface. Keep adding parts
    and models to the database (And please verify them before release). Improve the Model Wizard, to make it easy to create a new component from scratch. Make it easy
    to share newly created parts and models with the EWB community by adding a model export function.
    Thanks for the consideration

    Hi KCT,
    Thanks for your comments and suggestion.  I will put your suggestion about the database search into the feature request list.
    Just a note about sharing components.  If you place a component on the work space and send the file to someone, when they open your file and double click on the component there should be an option to save it to their database.
    If you have the Power Pro version you can also select ToolsàDatabaseàDatabase ManageràComponent, when you highlight a component or several components, click on the Export button and Multisim will create a .prz file. When the other person double clicks on this file, it will save the components to their database.
    In Ultiboard, you can click on the footprint and select ToolsàDatabaseàAdd selection to database.  If the board has several footprints that is not in your database, select ToolsàDatabase àDatabase Manage, on the Database column click on the + icon with the arrow pointing to the lower right, you should get a pop up with all footprint in the design file.  Put a check beside the footprint you want in your database and click O.K.

  • Improvement request - duplex printing different page sizes

    I have scanned sheet music to PDF and then trimmed the margins for best display on my tablet. This means some pages are different sizes (but all are smaller than 8.5 x 11).
    I combined one such PDF into a larger PDF of all 8.5 x 11 pages. When I print duplex, the pages that are less than 8.5 x 11 print out single sided instead of duplexed. It does this regardless of the size option (fit, actual size, or shrink) that I choose.
    I consider this to be a bug. It is already properly centering the less than 8.5x11 pages on the output paper, so it should be able to duplex them even though they are different sizes in the PDF. I would like to see this fixed.

  • Format functions - Improvement request

    Hello all,
    I have request for update.
    I.e, i have some site that deals with the products, all products have price, discount, quantity and VAT.
    I want to all prices be formated like this: 123,298.23
    I have to create functions:
    function formatNumber(nStr){
    nStr = parseFloat(nStr);
    nStr = nStr.toFixed(2);
    nStr += '';
    x = nStr.split('.');
    x1 = x[0];
    x2 = x.length > 1 ? '.' + x[1] : '';
    var rgx = /(\d+)(\d{3})/;
    while (rgx.test(x1)) {
    x1 = x1.replace(rgx, '$1' + ',' + '$2');
    return x1 + x2;
    function formatVPC(region, lookupFunc)
    var nStr = lookupFunc('{dsStavkeNarudzbenice::price}');
    return formatNumber(nStr);
    And to do this:
    {function::formatVPC}
    and if i calculate total like price* quantity i have to add new
    function formatPrice*Quantity(region, lookupFunc)
    var nStr = lookupFunc('{dsStavkeNarudzbenice::jedinicna_cena}');
    return formatNumber(nStr);
    Why Not {price| formatNumber}?
    Something like Smarty formating, with possibility to add params, like {price|formatNumber, ',', "."} - where  i want to use  , for 1000 separator and . for decimal separator?
    Then I can use just one function for all project, without creating additional separators.
    Creating small math expressions ?
    Now, I can not do this:
    Total Sum is {price}*{quantity}
    Why not:
    Total Sum is {eval|'{price}'*'{quantity}'} or some other solution?
    Rationale:
    It decrease code, it does not inflicts with application logic, it is more usable and readable

    Cmon people, support please, i think that this is good idea...

  • Improvement request: add a capability which defines if the connector supports file recovery

    A capability which defines if a connector supports file recovery makes sense when using Bridge. In Bridge, when you remove a file, it shows a confirm dialog with the question if you want to remove it to the project trash. When you confirm this, the file is immediatly deleted without any further notification as our DAM does not support file recovery (IRestoreHandler is not implemented).
    If Bridge knows that file recovery is not supported, it could simply show a confirm dialog that the file will be immediatly removed, just as Finder and Explorer do this.

    I don't have any answer for you, but if you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send either a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Mac Developer Program—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Keyboard UI improvement request: A better Language Switch is really needed!

    Hello Support,
    In bilingual environment like I have in Russia, current Lang Switch is definitely the weakest part of on-screen keyboard, which is disastrous to otherwise excellent typing experience.
    Please consider changing that so that one-step (NOT two-step) switching is possible, e.g.
    (а)adding a dedicated key/indicator (as in WP8 / iPad / some Symbians, etc...)
    (b)something like 'swipe space horizontally to switch the language' (as in Android)
    I believe the issue is relevant not for Russia only.
    Late 10.0.1 versions (like .4633 leaks or so) made situation even worse:
    initially, the order of a languages in pop-up list was constant, which allowed to switch to a needed language rather fast
    currently, the list order is constantly changing based on current language, which is VERY inconsistent.
    Env: Z10 STL100-2, various 10.0 and 10.1 firmware, Russian locale, Beeline.
    And, with keyboard devices like future Q10  etc, the best option is adding a dedicated switch button. Please consider that for future devices!
    Hoping for better typing experience,
    Cheers,
    Alex

  • Highlight recovery unusable - improvement request

    The shadow recovery tool works brilliantly, but the highlight recovery tool is terrible. It does not take advantage of the extra lattitude of RAW files. In RAW images with blown highlights, highlight recovery simply darkens areas that are not blown out, but it does not recover detail in blown out areas, even when that detail is available in the RAW file. Rather than using the highlight recovery tool, I am forced to reduce overall exposure to recover blown highlights. Then I have to use shadow recovery and levels to lighten shadows and midtones to their original luminance. Please, Apple, give us a highlight recovery tool that actually recovers blown highlights from RAW files.

    As I understand it, neither the Shadow nor the Highlight tool recover anything that was not there before. The Shadow tool will give you the impression of recovering detail because it lifts the really dark areas (the [2 2 2]s etc.) up into to a range where you can actually see them.
    Most monitors are calibrated (or mis-calibrated) in such a way that anything below a certain threshold (eg, [10 10 10]) looks the same as black as [0 0 0]. Check your monitor at:
    http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/Calibration/monitor_black.htm
    (It uses an animated image, if the animation has stopped, you might have to reload the page.)
    Judging from a quick check with one my photos, stock iMacs tested at an Apple reseller did not show any detail below estimated [25 25 25], stock Cinema displays faired better with maybe [15 15 15]. My Huey-calibrated screen starts at between [1 1 1] and [5 5 5] depending on ambient light (although the Huey should compensate for that fully).
    So, the Shadow tool probably simply lifts detail that was at eg [2 2 2] to [10 10 10] where you are able to see it. Real shadow or highlight recovery can only be achieved via the Exposure control as you rightly observed. And using Exposure to recover highlights requires extensive corrections with Levels to get the rest of the image back to where it was before, and usually I do not manage to get it back exactly.
    Interestingly, prints at my lab suffer from a similar problem as the un-calibrated screens do. Everything below roughly [15 15 15] appears as black, loosing the details. Even though illuminating the print from the back shows all shadow detail, looking at it in the normal way, some shadow detail is lost.

  • Improvement request for the developer forums(s)

    Is there any way to tweak the developer forum a little so user's can see the proper way to format code when making a post? There is no mention in the help. The Compose tab only has bold, italic, underline, and spellcheck. Somewhere on the *Post Message: New Topic* screen there needs to be something telling the user to use {code} around their code to format it properly.
    I have been trying to inform newer users over there but it gets tiring after a while.
    Thanks.

    Even better - a button on the compose form that would insert the magic goo for us!
    Seriously this is a mess with all of the new iPhone developers coming onto the forms and putting code in their posts and then the responses from the usual suspects that they should use the tags, followed by questions of how do I use the tags,...

    when adding a new book mark ( D) we are given a pull down list of all folders in the main book mark tab. I like to organise mine into folders so have hundreds of folders to scroll through.

  • Improving the Combine in Adobe Acrobat function

    Lately I've been using Acrobat to combine scanned pages (saved as png. files) to one PDF file. Unfortunately, the Create PDF from Multiple Documents window doesn't allow in the Files to Combine dialog box to sort the files according to their Last Modified date (or any other standard Windows detailed listing). Therefore I find myself manually moving groups of files up and down as I'm clueless as to which algorithm Adobe uses for the initial sort order, but it is a real mess as it doesn't go according to the file name or file date. I'm using Acrobat Pro. 7.0 but as far as I read in the Product Support Knowledgebase, this hasn't been improved in 8.0. Please let me know if I'm wrong--and I'll upgrade!

    To extend this Combine feature improvement request, it would be very helpful if the Combine function would allow you to save and maintain a reusable index of the files in a package, their order, and the location on which they are stored. The Index/Catalog building feature already has something like this, which lets you rebuild an index for a set of files without having to recreate it each time.
    It should also be possible to edit the structure and change the files in an existing package, or to update a saved configuration file & use it to rebuild a package. At the moment, I can't add, change, or reorder files in an existing package; I must create the package from scratch, and re-add and re-order all the files with the move up / move down buttons each time.
    I am still using Acrobat Pro 8, but from reading about the Portfolio feature in Acrobat Pro 9.0, I do not get the impression that it allows you to modify an existing package (Porfolio) or rebuild it if you have updated files.
    Cheers!

  • Personal domain pointing to my site published with iWeb, on MobileMe

    Just published my site using iWeb08 onto MobileMe and bought my domain name with GoDaddy. Having troubles getting the domain name www.brendaschroeder.com to point to my site
    http://web.me.com/brendalynnschroeder/Site/Welcome.html
    This is the first time I am doing this kind of thing and thought I followed directions right but it isn't working and GoDaddy tells me I need to go to Apple for support.
    Help.
    In GoDadday, under CNAMES:
    Host: web.me.com Points to www.brendaschroeder.com
    Did I need to put in something different/more?

    Hello,
    I am having the same problem as brennielynn. Our domain name is registered with Network Solutions with the cname pointed to web.me.com, per instructions in IWeb. Using IWeb, our domain name, www.dewittgalleryandframing.com, is entered into our MMe account.
    Result: in browser, entering www.dewittgalleryandframing.com shows an Apple.Mac page saying the IWeb page requested cannot be found.
    In case relevant: We have a MMe Family Account. Our primary account has another domain name set up, www.jimdewitt.com. Same setup in Network Solutions as above. Everything works fine. To set up our second domain name--the one with the problem, at this point--we set up a second MMe account and a separate account name on our IMac, with Systems Preferences set to the second MMe account name.
    What now?

  • Audio Track reverts to Default for 7.0 Theme Vintage Vinyl

    I recently put together a slide show for my daughter's second birthday, and in iDVD I opted to use the Vintage Vinyl theme for layout and configuration.
    For the Main Menu and all of my chapter menus I decided to apply my own music in place of the default music. You can do this simply enough by opening the info window and then dragging any selected song from iTunes to the Audio icon. The Menu Info window will then update and tell you the new duration, as well as the song author, song title and duration of the song.
    I can then select another chapter listing and do the same thing.
    What I have found though is that if I go back to a chapter or even the main menu after I have done this, my song is replaced once again by the default song. If I don't go back - but simply save and then burn, then I get the music I selected in all the right spots. It is as if in reloading the screen info for each menu or submenu, the template is stuck and replaces my selected music with the default music.
    I was at my local Apple store for a one-to-one session this morning and showed them this in the hope that they would say "ah - you have to adjust this..." and then I would adjust something to stop this replacement. But instead I got a - Hmmm... that shouldn't happen.
    It doesn't happen every time but almost every time. The slide show has some 560 slides in it, music that was put together in garageband and some 14 chapters. It takes an amazing time to refresh the screen and let a selection take place (apparently 2 Gigs are not enough).
    I don't know if this same issue is present in other Themes or not - but it does happen with some regularity with the Vintage Vinyl theme.
    Not sure how to fix it or even how to report it to Apple for a fix in the next set of updates, but thought this was at least a good place to start.

  • Weblogic 9.x admin console slowest and worst application ever

    Does anyone else think the Weblogic 9.x admin console really sucks? Is there any place I can make improvement requests?
    Things in Weblogic 8.x that took just a couple of minutes to accomplish routinely take a half-hour or more in the Weblogic 9.x console. I have recently discovered WLST and I have created a couple of scripts to script things I do quite often but quite honestly I don't have time to script everything I need to do in the console, especially since BEA should provide a usable admin console IMHO.
    My specific complaints (not all inclusive as there is no way I could think of every annoyance I run into on a day to day basis):
    1) It is crazy slow. We use the ssh node manager so every time it loads a page I guess it polls every managed instance via ssh and page loads take a couple of minutes. For example, getting the next page of Deployments takes around 3 minutes.
    2) The deployment pagination is very annoying. Why is this limited to 10 deployments per page? This should just show me a list of all my deployments in alphabetical order. The pagination offers nothing. At the very least pagination length should be configurable. The pagination combined with problem 1 takes me many minutes to get to the app I need to do something with.
    3) If BEA insists on pagination on the deployments list at least give me a link so I can immediately jump to a specific page! The link should have the letter range of the deployments on that page (like A-C, D-V, W-Z, or something like that).
    4) After I stop an app it jumps back to page 1 instead of showing the page of deployments containing the app I just stopped. OMG!!! GRRR! Now I have to hit Next several times to get back to my app with 3 minutes between each page load. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!
    5) Why is there not a Redeploy button like there was in Weblogic 8.x? If I need to restart an application I have to go through the update procedure and not upload a new version. This is annoying, just give me a damn redeploy button.
    6) After clicking the Lock button I have to wait 2-3 minutes for it to give me the Lock. Why does it take this long?
    7) The whole locking mechanism is stupid. Why do I have to obtain a lock to make any changes? I never had a problem in Weblogic 8.x with walking on someone else. I can see how this could possibly be beneficial to some organizations (I suppose) so at the very least make obtaining the lock optional via configuration.
    I am sure there are many more but I can't think of all of them now. I will start writing it down every time the console annoys the hell out of me. IMHO the Weblogic 9.x console broke the perfectly good Weblogic 8.x console.
    It wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't so MADDENINGLY SLOW.

    We have upgraded our WebLogic from 8.1 to 9.2 along with our PeopleSoft 9.0 upgrade and boy-oh-boy, has the WebLogicAdmin console slowed down.
    It used to open in about 10 seconds.
    Now it opens in roughly 1 minute and 30 seconds.
    The heap size settings are the same as they were in the WebLogic 8.1
    Even restarting the WebLogicAdmin and associated PeopleSoft PIA's is the worst I have ever seen.
