Personal domain pointing to my site published with iWeb, on MobileMe

Just published my site using iWeb08 onto MobileMe and bought my domain name with GoDaddy. Having troubles getting the domain name www.brendaschroeder.com to point to my site
http://web.me.com/brendalynnschroeder/Site/Welcome.html
This is the first time I am doing this kind of thing and thought I followed directions right but it isn't working and GoDaddy tells me I need to go to Apple for support.
Help.
In GoDadday, under CNAMES:
Host: web.me.com Points to www.brendaschroeder.com
Did I need to put in something different/more?

Hello,
I am having the same problem as brennielynn. Our domain name is registered with Network Solutions with the cname pointed to web.me.com, per instructions in IWeb. Using IWeb, our domain name, www.dewittgalleryandframing.com, is entered into our MMe account.
Result: in browser, entering www.dewittgalleryandframing.com shows an Apple.Mac page saying the IWeb page requested cannot be found.
In case relevant: We have a MMe Family Account. Our primary account has another domain name set up, www.jimdewitt.com. Same setup in Network Solutions as above. Everything works fine. To set up our second domain name--the one with the problem, at this point--we set up a second MMe account and a separate account name on our IMac, with Systems Preferences set to the second MMe account name.
What now?

  • Two Sites Published With iWeb...Viewers Get Error Message With Second Site

I have used iWeb to create two web sites. I believe I have done so properly, using File>New Site to begin creating the second site. After publishing, I can visit both sites from within iWeb.
Curiously, the message panel that displays after successful publishing indicates the same URL for both web sites. Obviously, that's wrong. That address will open the first site properly (after automatically adding additional characters to the URL during opening), but is incorrect for the second site. As an alternative, I have visited both sites from within iWeb, and copied the URL from the browser window as the "proper" address.
When I use the copied URL's in my own browser, I can navigate to each of the websites properly. However, when I give those URL's to someone else, they get an error message that the second site cannot be found using the URL for the second site that I obtained using the "copying" technique described. That's the case even though both URL's work properly from my computer and browser.
Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

Mount your iDisk and go to the iDisk/Web/Sites folder and delete your friend's site folder that's there. The example below shows many site folders in the Sites folder.

  • How do I get site analytics with iWeb 09 MobileMe Rage iWeb SEO tool?

I have two sites of consideration both registered and forwarded from GoDaddy:
    bicycedriver.com    several pages
    bicycledriver.org     just one page
I was not getting site analytics data on referring sites and search engine/keyword data with code applied to bicycledriver.COM. Thats the site I'm interested in getting data. Then with the iWeb SEO tool, I accidentally applied the StatCounter and Godaddy Site Analytics code to bicycledriver.ORG, another one of several sites.
Now I get referring sites and searchengine/keyword data on bicycledriver.ORG but NOT on bicycledriver.COM
Should I find some way to reverse the above situation,... what would that be, or can someone tell me what's going on and how to fix it?

    Ethmoid:
You're right.  I did know that, got it from this post by Akdream but miscopied it to my note pad where I copy and paste.  Thanks.
    bicycledriver:
There is no performance difference between CNAME and regular URL forwarding.  But if you mask with URL forwarding then the restrictions that Ethmoid pointed out come into play.
The drawback to using domain name forwarding with masking:
Visitors can only enter your web site via the first page.
Visitors can only bookmark the first page of your site.
If a visitor refreshes a page they will be taken back to the first page of the site.k
Search engines will only be able to use the first page of your site for indexing and rating your site.
#4 is a big drawback.  That can seriously minimize what search engines can learn about your site.

  • Editing a site created with Iweb - with another program

    Hello,
I built a website for a friend and he wants to be able to make small changes on it from time to time and I downloaded a WYSIWYG editor and none of them are compatible with sites created with Iweb...
Does anyone have any suggestions? He runs a windows machine.
    Thank you so much!!!

Well, not really. A lot of people have their sites built for them and then, with a little guidance, can change out photos, or do a little editing here and there. So your idea certainly has merit.
The problem is, iWeb is a unique html generator. It stores everything you create in the application in a single file, (Domain.sites2), and only the application itself can open this file for editing. iWeb doesn't even create the html until you publish the site, either to a folder or to an Apple server. iWeb also changes many things into .png files--including text--believe it or not, in a well intentioned effort to cross platform better with other browser applications. So even simple text editors, which would normally be fine for changing small things in most websites, will struggle.
Your idea was a good one; it is iWeb that isn't a good candidate for it.
You must therefore now convince this person to become an Apnewbie, and buy a Mac!

    It's only Safari/iOS7. Chrome iOS7 works fine.
    Solution?
Go to YT and grab the code.
Paste it in a HTML Snippet.

  • Site made with iWeb using personal domain name

I have created a web site on iWeb 08 and have a personal domain name through Network Solutions.
The website was published to Mobile Me after "set up personal domain" was done. The C Name record was changed at Network Solutions to web.me.com. When I write the domain name in the browser a box comes down asking "idisk.mac.com" wants user name and password.
    1. Why is it asking for this?
    2. every ID and Password I put in, it tells me is incorrect? Ahhhhhhhh What does it want from me?
Please help - I've waisted so much time on this (since last week).
The website name is www.theplazarealty.com is you want to take a look.
    Thank you

This relates to a problem I can't find in the iWeb manual. Where is my iWeb site actually published to, so I can accurately update it using FTP software, and which method to use for publishing it to domain names?
I have created two websites for two different purposes each with a personal domain (one hosted, the other with webforwarding), and through ignorance have done all three options Publish to MobileMe / Publish All to MobileMe / and Publish to a folder (my home computer user Sites folder). As a result I have three Sites folders each containing both 'mysites'- Computer/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Web/Sites/sitename - all different sizes, worryingly, leaving me unclear which is doing what. What is the diff between Publish All to MMe and Publish to MMe - they both seem to entail both sites totally republishing even if only one page has changed. Each time, of course, it takes several minutes or more to clear through the publishing process, and then some 20-30mins more to synchronise with FTP before I find out whether I've only used the duff old version after all. What is the difference between the three Sites destination folders? Can the difference be used productively? Should I, eg, ensure my sites exist both on my computer and iDisk as backup?
Further confusing factor is that when I log into MMe and look at my folders icon on my iDisk, which are Sites and Web/Sites, the contents of the two 'mysites' folders listed under both areas are different from the SITES/iWeb display listed below them, which seems to be a truncated sort of merger of the 'mysites' contents without their separation into two. Is that iWeb item under SITES on the folders page listing a fourth set of the contents,or what?
Now to synchronising/updating: which Sites folder to use to synchronise the websites with. Can I get updating in sync with republishing? My domain host UKcentric does not provide the CNAME options you have all talked about and they are unobtainable on my hosted domain page. I sent him the web.me.com message as described in the iWeb Personal Domain instrux, but he has persistently instructed me to use FTP software to upload and update the sites. He is not Mac-friendly, he admits. I have now used three programs, ClassicFTP, FileZilla and Cyberduck, all of which seem to be rather different and none of them has told me the sync has completed (the connection drops out, etc - it does take a long time, say 30-40mins to do, and I never know when I "resume" whether it'll pick up where it was or go back to zero start). If I am stuck with this laborious method of regular manual updating, I want to know I am using the correct Sites folder to synchronise the website with. None of this is clarified in the iWeb manual. Can anyone help?

  • Personal Domain points to wrong iWeb site

I set up Personal Domain for one of my 3 sites. Changing the cname worked fine except it directs to the site at the top of my list. Is their a way to direct to a site not at the top.. The problem is that I have a site set up for the family that I just give them the address web.mac.com/username. That also can only be used by the top site. Any solution other than going back to web forwarding

What you need to do is separate out your sites so that they each have their own domain file and load into iWeb and publish one a time.
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
Each site will have its own .Mac URL like....
    http://web.mac.com/username/WebsiteName/PageName.html
Your domain name is directed to the index.html file that is in Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites.
When you publish another site this file is replaced by the one for the newly uploaded site.
Publish your business site to a folder and save the index.html file. Every time you upload another site to your iDisk, upload a copy of this "business" index file by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites to replace the one that iWeb uploaded and your domain name will go to the "business" site.
Is this as clear as mud?

  • Personal Domain - Can I get rid of my iWeb site's name in the URL?

    Hey everyone,
I just set up my iWeb site (called "This is Out of Context") to point to a personal domain name (www.thisisoutofcontext.com). Problem is, now my homepage URL reads: http://www.thisisoutofcontext.com/THISIS_OUT_OFCONTEXT/HOME.html
Is there any way to "get rid" of the second "THISIS_OUT_OFCONTEXT" so that my URL simply reads: http://www.thisisoutofcontext.com/HOME.html ? You know...short 'n sweet...like a "normal" website?
Any thoughts or tips would be much appreciated (please go easy on me, I'm a total newbie here...)
    Cheers!

does this work with iweb 08?
my site was running fine until i upgraded to iweb 08 and redsigned my site. i have a godaddy account for my domain name and i have it masked and forwarded but my apple url still appears at the top of the browser bar while in safari and firefox. my site is www.louislemoine.com
if you go there you will see what i mean. maybe what you are talking about will solve this problem. i am at work so i can not check to see if what you talk about will work. i am hoping that you are onto something.

  • Domain name setup with iWeb 09, MobileMe & Google Apps.

I purchased a domain (http://tinyurl.com/5v3m3bs) via google, I am hosting the site on my MobileMe (http://tinyurl.com/5vt9qr8) space & am using iWeb09 to edit the website but for the life of me I cannot mask forward using Google Apps from my domain to my MobileMe site.  I have read several articles related to this and seems very confusing.
Can someone please guide me step-by-step to achieve this?
    Regards

To set up web forwarding with masking, all you need do is log into your account at your domain name registrar's and then go to the web forwarding section.  Once in web forwarding enable masking and then forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename and that is all you need do.
Do remember though that if you have already entered your domain name into your MobileMe account under the personal domain name settings and have set up CNAME forwarding, then you cannot have masked web forwarding as well.
You need to do one or the other, but NOT both.  Decide what you want and what is more important to you and set this up - if you want masking then just follow the steps above and mask and forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename - you need to be more specific with this.

  • Picture published with iWeb to Mobile Me disappears in Explorer.

My website brandgarden.no has a photo on the last page. This photo works fine if you use Safari or Firefox, but disappears after 1 second if you use Explorer. Can this problem be solved, so even Microsoft users can look at my website?

    It's all in the manual
You publish to MobileMe. With or without a domainname.
To use your domainname, follow the instructions in your MobileMe account where you setup Personal Domain:
    https://secure.me.com/account/
Where you'll find a link to [iWeb: Using your own domain name|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1107]
Or read it in the [MobileMe help|http://help.apple.com/mac/1/help> : Account > Setting up a Personal Domain
You can have only one domainame with Personal Domain at MobileMe. To use the other one you have to enable URL forwarding where you host your domainname.
And browse this forum. Your question is not unique and has already been answered a few thousand times.

  • Frustrating to publish with iweb Ahhhhhhhhh!!

I would like to say that iweb seems like an amazing application! I have been so excited by the release. I built a truly amazing web site in a short period of time! I was so excited by it's simple design and ease of use that I told everybody I'd come in contact with about it all the while I was making my site. that is until................ I can't seem to publish it!
I have been trying to publish a site for the last three weeks to no avail except for a one and only time! I have tried everything in my bag of tricks. I have read all the posts here contacted tech support several times all with no satisfaction.
I have been a long time mac user/supporter/advocate and am pretty proficient with them. I almost never have to call tech support and usually find that when I do, I have an equal or better understanding of my mac than they do. Now don't get me wrong there have been times when they have helped me solve my problem and always seem eager to help and I have always been appreciative of their being. It's just that my last conversation with them and thier pathetic answer left an aweful foul tast in my mouth!
My last series of phone calls to tech support ended with apple telling me that the problem was with my internet connection. Now I know that they were as frustrated with my problem as I was but for them to put this thing to rest and get me off their back by telling me that this is my problem? Well it's just plain not acceptable!
I know that my internet connection is not the problem! I have tried several other connections at different places and all end up with the same result.
The one time I did get my site to publish a week ago I was using the, "publish to folder" option and then pointing it to my "web" folder on idisk. I was amazed when it published but that was a week ago and now I have updated my site and can't get it to upload again no matter what I try. I've trashed prefs., reinstalled the program, held down the option key and clicked the "publish all" button, I have tried uploading around 3am several times thinking that the server may have less traffic and that might help. I have deleted all my media from my idisk and started over, which in hind site was a mistake, I tried uploading a simple one page one picture site and nothing will publish! I get error messages everytime!! I have not one time given up and have literally spent days of my time trying to figure this problem out!
Here are a list of just SOME of the error messages I get.
An error occurred while publishing file “Images”.
An error occurred while publishing file “index.html”.
An error occurred while publishing file “shapeimage_1.jpg”.
An error occurred while publishing file “shapeimage_2.png”.
Can’t create the file “navbar5normal.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Can’t create the file “BoilLineProductions/About BLP.html.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
An error occurred while publishing file “index.html”.
Can’t create the file “navbar4normal.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Can’t create the file “navbarseparator3.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Is there anybody out there who has suffered like this? If so what are you doing about it?
    Sincerely,
    Todd

I was having trouble publishing to my .mac account as well. I am traveling so I have the disadvantage/advantage of trying completely different isp networks while trying to upload. I was receiving most of the same errors, but after trying yet another hotel high speed the site published. I hadn't changed any files as I didn't have time I would just start publishing before bed, and the best I can figure is that the isp was causing some delay as well as a delay in the .mac servers causing the program to drop the connection just long enough to hang the upload. It is my understanding that the .mac servers are not the fastest due to sheer volume of use. (idisks constantly syncing etc.) Some things to look at are how big are your files the larger the file obviously the more chance to loose packets of info in transfer and possible errors. How large is the total site you may have hidden files on your idisk eating up needed space or your email may be taking to much of the hard drive. try to reconfigure your email storage to a lower amount of idisk. Mine was set to 512mb or half of my storage space. Did just publish to .mac with a total file size of 400mb so it can be done. also check to make sure your computer is not disconnecting if it goes to sleep. Just a few suggestions hopefully it will help.

  • How do i edit a site created with iweb

I created a site last year with iweb, but now when I try to open it, it only lets me create a new site.  I can see the thumbnail in my finder view, but cannot edit it. Help.
    Thanks in advance

    Try this:
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How to edit  a site made with iWeb?

I made a simple site with pictures with iWeb 08, I would like to edit some text and also to add more pictures, and 'easy' solution would be to add the new pictures edit the text, delete the 'old' site and upload to new one.
    www.fuentebonita.com
Is there an easier way to make changes or add pictures to an already posted website?
    Thanks in advance

    You're in good shape then.
From the file menu in Transmit, use the Preferences tab to customize your upload process: Preferences/Transfers
Let us know how it works out for you...I don't think you will find a better ftp client. There's also a good list of tools for iWeb, including ftp clients, here:

  • How do I delete sites created with iWeb and posted with .mac after a format

I am confused about how to delete a couple of sites that I created with iWeb and posted with my .mac after I did a format reload?
I have tried everything. The original files are not on my MacBook Pro because of the format.
I also see them in my idisc, but I is my understanding that on my MacBook Pro that I can delete the files, but they are hosted online. On the online idisk I cannot delete them because there is no option. Please help!!!

Using the file menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSitesAreHere
Highlight selected files and Command/Delete. You will receive a drop down asking you if you are sure; click OK and the files/sites will be deleted immediately from the iDisk.
