Iwork - Numbers My data entry is missing?

I updated software this weekend.  I have a MAC.  I was using Numbers last week and all my data was there.  I clicked on the file to work on it this morning and I can open the sheet and but no data is in the body.  I tried another file and it did the same thing.  I don't want to click on another file for fear of losing more data.  Please help.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Creating data entry forms in numbers

How do I create a data entry form in Numbers for Macbook Air?

    Hi Francie,
Ever since I switched to the Mac over a decade ago, I've been puzzled by why Apple gives the keyboard interrupt such low priority. When the computer gets busy, keystrokes start to lag. Sometimes, rarely, they are even lost.
The computer gets very busy with Flash websites. If you have several Safari Windows or Tabs running with Flash animation, the fans will start to rev up, a laptop will start to warm your legs (ok in the winter) and your keyboard will lag.
The computer also gets busy when you are editing a large Numbers iWork '09 document. Large for Numbers '09 is not really very big compared to many Excel documents that we are used to seeing in a business setting. This is because Numbers '09 constantly recalculates the document as you type. It doesn't wait for you to finish an entry, it just gets busy recalculating. They tried to address this recalculation problem in iWork '13 (Version 3).
In general, your spreadsheet work will go better if Numbers is the only app you have running. At least close windows, tabs and apps that you aren't using.
One lsat thing is your Free Memory. If you are short on RAM, Restarting your computer will free-up memory by releasing allocations for apps that you may have closed earlier. This is a pain, so it's best to install as much RAM as your computer will hold.

  • Use iCal to alert on dates calculated in iWork Numbers

As a followup to this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2635173?threadID=2635173 archived discussion, I'd like to know if it is possible to have Numbers calculate dates (e.g. A workout schedule for runners) and have iCal do reminders (entries on the calendar for those days that an exercise is scheduled).
    Example entry in Numbers column:
    2013/05/03 18:00 0:20 5x(2 low, 2 rest)
Where the time is depending on the day of week (i've got all that working) and the string "5x(2 low, 2 rest)" should go in the appointment text of ical on may 3 at 6 at night for an appointment of 20 minutes.

  • Cannot get an invoice created with IWork Numbers to open correctly in Excel

I used the Template in Numbers to create an invoice, and it's great.
However, I cannot seem to open this file in Excel no matter how I send it, no matter how I save it.
Have saved as windows friendly, have saved as Excel file.
I have to be able to have these opened by others with Excel and/or OpenOffice and, Office staff must be able to work with the file to update/modify invoices.
I even tried Pdf and Adobe Acrobat Pro thinking they would be able to do data entry that way-No luck.
Desperately need a solution or a year of working with IWork is going to be lost.
We have now added staff, and in other locations, and have to be able to work across platforms.
No problems importing Office files of any type, but have to be able to export as well and have cells and formatting remain workable.
I can open the files in Excel but they are unusable, in several pages, basically no invoice template left.
    Thanks for any help.
    Charles1

If you are getting three Excel worksheets, the export is working as designed. You have to remember that the heart of an Excel worksheet is a monolithic table. Everything is aligned in a tabular grid. Numbers, on the other hand, allows you to have multiple tables on the same sheet that have different column and row widths and the tables can be placed wherever you like, offset from the other tables by whatever amount you desire in any direction you desire. The invoice template is a good example; the two tables are very dissimilar in format and in column widths. If Numbers was to export the two tables from the invoice template into a single sheet of an Excel workbook, which column widths would it use? The ones from the first table or the ones from the second? No matter which it chose, the result would be quite different from what is in Numbers. Now include some text boxes, graphics or charts. With the tables moved around and resized to align to the Excel grid, these other items would also have to be moved around. But to where. It would be impossible to make an exported file look anything like it did in Numbers except in specific instances. This is why Numbers creates separate Excel sheets when it converts to Excel.
I know that diatribe did not help you solve your problem. To solve your problem, everything must be designed as one table in Numbers. Here is how you can do it. It is a bunch of steps but is really simple to do.
    1) Select all the rows from the first table.
    2) Drag them sideways out of the table and drag them to the second table, inserting them just below the first row. I think this is explained in the Numbers User's Guide.
    3) Add a new row below the rows you just inserted (this will become your new row 8)
    4) Select the cells in row 1. Copy. Paste to your new row 8.
    5) Delete row 1
    6) Go to the Table Inspector and turn on Name (check the checkbox). Name it Invoice.
    7) Back at the table, deselect the table if it is still showing the column letters and row numbers in order to see the table name
    8) Click twice on the table name above the table to select it. It will box it in, it does not select the text.
    9) On the toolbar, change the font size and color and set it to left justification.
    10) Delete the textbox with the word "Invoice" in it.
    11) Delete the textbox with "sincerely yours ... Your name". Or, if you want to keep it, add another footer to the table, increase the height of that new footer and type "Sincerely yours," and your name in there. Note that you use option-return to create the linefeeds in the cell.
    12) Select the table and slide it up toward the top of the sheet.
    13) Adjust the column widths as best you can. I increased the column width of column B and right justified the text in cells A1-A6 and C1-C6 to get it looking okay. You might, instead, choose to insert a column or two and merge some cells together to align everything like you want it. And you might choose to add a row or increase the gridline width between the top half and the bottom half. I did not do those last few things. You can play around to get the design you like best.
The export looked almost exactly like the Numbers document.

  • Preview breaks pdf with data entry cells?

    Hi,
Here's the gist of the trouble:
I created a simple invoice in acrobat with data entry cells for the user to enter hours worked, description of work, etc. It works fine in acrobat.
If I open it in Preview two things seem to happen:
    1. closing the document saves it without me being prompted
    2. the data entry cells are mucked up - data is in the cells but can't be seen unless I click on the cell. If I click away from that cell the data dissappears behind a blue highlight of the cell (the same blue highlight I see in Preview). I am able to 'bring the data back' by selecting the data, cmd-x, click to another cell, click back to original cell, cmd-v. It don't make no darned sense I tell ya!
So, why is Preview saving my data without asking me? What's going on there?
Why is Preview breaking the data entry cells?
    Any ideas?
    Cheers, Mike

This is the work around that I got from the Apple iWork Team; they are working on solving the problem:
"Unfortunately, Numbers can enter a bad state. We are investigating a fix. In the meantime:
To avoid this bad state, please do not exit Numbers with a file open. Always:
    1. Tap the "My Spreadsheets" button to close the file.
    2. Then exit Numbers."
So far, following this procedure, I have encountered no problems. If Numbers is in this "bad state," you can return it to a normal condition by either double tapping the spreadsheet name which will put you into edit mode, then tap the spreadsheet to exit. Also, you can tap the arrow in the upper right corner to enter read mode, then tap the spreadsheet to exit. Hope this helps.

  • Is the data entry bar gone?

It appears that data entry is only possible directly in cells now rather than being able to enter it in the bar at the top of the spreadsheet as in Numbers '09?
This is unfortunate. I've always used that space to paste text from webpages and other programs to have them default to the standard format of the sheet rather than use the clumsy shift-option-command-V to paste items and match style.
Am I missing something? I've tried all the menu options I can find but there doesn't seem to be any other data entry area other than directly in the cell.
This is the 3rd or 4th thing now that is really going to hamper my productivity in the new numbers. I'm really considering dumping it at this point and going back to the old version... At least on spreadsheets that are easily recreated since the old version won't open spreadsheets that have been manipulated in the new version.
    Tim

    Tim,
How about that, Numbers V2 is on its way out and I learn something new about it. I never realized the practicality of pasting into the Formula Bar.
However, in Numbers V3, there is a slightly clunky way to enter data into the formula editor rather than directly into the cell:
Select the Cell, Type an equals sign, hit "delete", Paste.
Not easier than Shift-Option-Command-V, but it works.

  • How to add a new filed of Personnel number in FB60 data entry screen

    Hello SAP Gurus,
We want to have a field to populate the Personnel number in all of the posting document entries via FB60. Besides the existing fields such as the "Doc.header text", "reference", "short text", "text" and "assignment" fields etc, are there any other fields that can be used to enter the Personnel number in the document entries? Maybe there're some fields are ready but the fields have been hidden on the data entry screen currently?
Personnel number is there in the Vendor master data in CoCd data, Accounting Info.
I checked the Field status group of the Vendor Recon A/c in OBC4 and made the personnel number as Optional from suppressed mode in FSG BS41 under Additional Account Assignment.
After doing the above, I am still not able to see the personnel number filed in FB60.
Am I missing anything else due to which I am not able to get the additional filed of personnel number in FB60 screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Dear
Look FB60 screen has two parts :
The one in which you enter information related to vendor is Header Level, in this case you already assign Personnel No. in Vendor Master so no field is required as Personnel no. will be picked up from Vendor Master level.
The Other is line item level is bottom half part, if you want to assign personnel no. at Expense G/L level then if you scroll right you will find a field for Personnel no. If you can't see the field check your setting at OBVV for the field status group you assign to particular Expense G/L.
    Hope you Understood
    Cheers

  • Looking for a browser or app with one click data entry

One thing I miss on the iPad is the ability to quickly enter information in web sites like my name, e-mail, etc. For example, Firefox for windows has an add-on called "InFormEnter" which places a check box next to each data entry block. Clicking on it allows entry of the information with one additional click. I know that some iPad password managers will remember this info, but most seem to require entering a password each time you use it.
Mercury browser for the iPad remembers data for visited sites but seems to require manual input for every new site.
Is there an app or browser for iPad that will work without entering a password or requiring manual input for every new site?

The subscription version of LastPass has formfill capability and syncs information from your LastPass account that works on multiple platforms/OSs.

  • Bug report: Controls in the Data Entry property page reset when using relative time

    Create a blank VI.
    Drop a numeric control.
Right click and select "Display Format".
    Change to a relative time.
Switch to the "Data Entry" tab page.
Uncheck the "Use Default Limits" boolean.
Try changing the values and you will see that they return to their previous values (inf, by default). This persists even after pressing OK and opening the dialog again. It looks like the values are held in a cache and put back into the controls, since if you change a page and go back to the limits page, it shows the correct values. I also managed to get it to display the values using the correct format (relative time), which I assume is what it should be doing.
    This is in LabVIEW 8.6.
Try to take over the world!

Relative Time Data Entry Bug.vi ‏5 KB

I spent some time playing around with this in 8.6.1, and at this time do not consider it a bug - unless there is something I completely missed.
When you set to relative time, the inputs for data entry are expecting HH:MM or HH:MMS, depending on which display setting you chose.  Typing a '7' is undefined - does the user mean hours? Minutes? Seconds? Parsecs ?
Once we type in a value that matches the format and we get the display to change, it is true that from now on if we type '7' in the field, it will automatically coerce it to 7:00, if we type 36 it coerces to 36:00.  If we type 7.5, it does not change the value at all.  I think at this point, the user knows what is going on, so this behavior is acceptable.  After accepting the changes and re-opening the properties window, the limits are persistent.
I was not able to reproduce typing a '7' in the limit, having it automatically coerce back to '-inf', then going to a different tab or clicking ok, and coming back and seeing it as 7:00. It was still '-inf'.  If you have some more details on this, maybe I can reproduce it, but from everything I tried, users are be able to enter values and these values are saved.
Edit - I am aware of the other forum post and the CAR filed there...

  • Can I create a data entry form?

I have inherited a large Excel spreadsheet and would like to create a data entry form to input/view data without continually scrolling horizontally. Is this possioble please?
    Many thanks,
    Gary

Data entry forms and other alternate views of data are best made in a database application. Spreadsheets like Excel or Numbers show data in rows and columns and that's it. If there are two many rows or columns to fit on a page, scrolling is unavoidable. Ditto for tables in Word or Pages.
A database can create displays that put all related data on a single screen or page.
Mac databases include Filemaker and Bento (by the same company). I'm sure there are others, I've just never heard of them.
    Good luck,
    Terry

  • DEBMAS failed in target R/3 system - one entry is missing in VBUK.

    Hi,
I have got an issue while sending a customer from one R/3 to another R/3 system using BD12.
The inbound IDoc in the receiving system got failed by stating " Entry 0050001076 does not exist in VBUK - check your entry ", means one entry is missing in the table. VBUK table is holding data of sales documents, i sent the customer alone from the source system but i am not sure why this sales documents involved in that IDoc. I couldn't find the segment for the error data in the IDoc too. looks weird for me.
Please let me know your idea on how to resolve this issue.
    Thank you.
    Regards
    Lakshman.V

    Hi Laksman,
Looking to your error it seems that the receiving system is failing the inbound IDOC as it might be configured to accept the sales documents informations though it is not maintained in your IDOC.Check your SPRO settings.
Also check for the record values of the customers that you are trying to post. There can be a possiblity that you are posting the record for which the sales related information is already maintained. In that case you might get this error.Check for that particular record in the receving system.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Minaz
