IWS 6.0 SP1 Filtering API

On Solaris, does filtering work for access to static content in a web application? How do I get the filter to fire when a static resource is accessed?

No, web application filters will not filter static content in iWS 6.0. In iWS, static content is sent using an accelerated path that bypasses Java altogether.
If you want to filter static content, you will need to map the static content to a Servlet. The Servlet can simply read from a file and write to the HttpServletResponse.

    Ananda,
    If you're starting the server from the command line, this is normal behavior. All these messages will output to the console and logs. If you start this from the GUI interface, the output will go to the logs.

    I just went through the SP1 migration and everything is up and running

  • Bug or feature in iWS 6.0 sp1 for URL forwarding?

    running on Solaris 8 ...
    I was having difficulty configuring URL forwarding for individuals
    with iPlanet 6.0 SP1. I was finally able to get it working but had
    to manually define the redirections. I believe this to be a bug
    in the admin server.
    Defining URL forwarding through the admin server defines a NameTrans
    directive, in the obj.conf file, similar to this:
    NameTrans fn="redirect" from="/testing" url="http://www.iplanet.com"
    If you enable Public information directories, the following NameTrans
    directive is defined:
    NameTrans fn="unix-home" from="/~" subdir="public_html"
    We had desired to configure rediction for a few users' home directories.
    Using the Admin Server when the following occured:
    NameTrans fn="unix-home" from="/~" subdir="public_html"
    NameTrans fn="redirect" from="/~johnd" url="http://www.iplanet.com"
    Since the "unix-home" parameter had been defined prior to the
    "redirect" parameter, the redirection was ignored. The webserver
    used our system password file to locate the home directory for
    user 'johnd' and attempted to load the content in that directory,
    affectively bi-passing the redirect parameter defined for this user.
    I found that if the redirection for users' home directories was defined
    prior to the "unix-home" parameter, the redirection would function as
    would be expected:
    NameTrans fn="redirect" from="/~johnd" url="http://www.iplanet.com"
    NameTrans fn="unix-home" from="/~" subdir="public_html"
    The above example could not be done through the admin server. I had
    to manually define it in the obj.conf file and restart the web server. Is this a bug or a feature?

    Jay Fowler wrote:
    Is this a bug or a feature?I wouldn't call this a bug (defined as "does not work as designed"). I
    would call this an unfortunate effect of the different Admin CGIs/JSPs.
    The CGI/JSP that creates the normal redirects is apparantly not checking
    for the existence of User Home Dirs and placing its redirects above them
    in the obj.conf. You can define all you redirects via the Admin
    interface, then manually move the
    NameTrans fn="unix-home" from="/~" subdir="public_html"
    line under the redirects you created. You'll have to do this any time
    you define a redirect that is based off of "/~foo".

    I suppose U've not set the class path variable in the users profile it has to be set in the .profile if Ur using born shell or .login for c shell.
    B'coz that's what Ur error message suggests "(java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:"
    Check Ur class path variable in the users profile from the account Ur trying to execute the java program.

    Hi,
    Did you installed iWS6.0sp2 recently. If it's so have you given (JDK path,JDK lib path,JDK classpath) while installation. Please remove JDK path in admin server and try to start the server.
                   OR
    1. Try to do fresh installation at the time don't give your jdk path(while installation).
    2. Start the Admin server & try to hit admin page.
    3. Now configure JDK & start the iWS. i hope now you will able to hit the admin page.
    Still, you face problem let me know the output of below.
    #/<server root>/https-admserv/start -configtest
    #/<server root>/https-admserv/start -e

    I am not sure if this solved the problem.
    But now, I am using Sun One Web Server 6.1 sp1.
    You can download it from
    http://wwws.sun.com/software/download/products/4000635d.html
    Try using this and see if the problem gets resolved.

    Okie-dokie then.
    You can hard-code the hostname into the /etc/hostconfig file. Usually, it reads <pre>HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC-</pre> but you can substitute <pre>HOSTNAME=machine.domain.com</pre>
    You don't need to reboot if you also issue the command
    <pre>sudo hostname machine.domain.com</pre> on the command line. (I could be wrong, but I think the hostconfig file is read on boot only.)
    Then try <pre>sudo apachectl configtest</pre> once again. If you get no errors, see if you can start up the web service. You can do it either with the Server Admin app or with <pre>sudo apachectl start</pre>

  • Web-application deployment problem (404 - File not found)

    Hello
    Does anyone have had the same problems like me on deploying java web-applications on iPlanet WS 6.0?
    I started with the HelloWorld.war example that came with the server and went through the manual but no luck so far. Heres what I did:
    0. Checked that webapps are enabled in the servler.xml file
    1. Created a directory /opt/webapps and /opt/webapps/hello with sufficient permissions
    2. Copied the HelloWorld.war example to /opt/webapps
    3. Deployed the excample on my test-server using the webinterface.
    Heres the content of the web-apps.xml file of my testserver after step 3:
    [DTD here]
    <vs>
    <jsp-servlet enable="true">
    <init-param>
    <param-name>use-precompiled</param-name>
    <param-value>true</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </jsp-servlet>
    <web-app uri="/hello" dir="/opt/webapps/hello" enable="true"/>
    </vs>
    All files have been extracted to /opt/webapps/hello properly. The server has been restarted.
    When I finally point my browser to http://server/hello or hello/index.jsp I get only a 404 - File not found message by the server. The context path seems to be totaly ignored.
    Heres the error log of the server

    i had similar problem due to the incorrect jdk path...
    try http://..../hello/snoop, if this works, it seems that the jsp file cannot be compiled automatically and jdk path needs to be checked...

    Can anyone help? This is currently driving me nuts. I was able to
    connect when I changed it to an application.
    I am using the Iplanet Webserver 6.0 on a Linux 7.2 platform. Like I
    said, sqlplus works fine, standard java application works fine but
    when I change it to a servlet (which means it now goes through the
    webserver, I get this error message)
    Does anyone know what the source code is trying to do at
    OCIDBAccess.java:1743 ?
    Thanks guys!

    Tony, could you please explain me better the procedure that you wrote?
    What are the boxes? My situation is similar:
    | ServerSocket (1) |
    | (192.168.1.100, 5555) |
    |
    |
    |
    |
    | Proxy |
    | Someone wants to connect to the ServerSocket (1) |
    That is not true. You CAN do it but you need a box
    outside the firewall with proper IP address to help
    you. I am not sure if Sergio still wants the answer
    today after more than a year from the original post (I
    did not see the post until today when I try to search
    for something else). Anyway, if such a box is
    available (I call it 2nd box), you could first
    establish a socket between the two boxes by HTTP
    tunneling (I assume it is a http proxy). You have to
    initiate the socket from the 1st box. Then start
    another server socket on the 2nd box, forwarding the
    traffic it gets from outside back to the 1st box using
    the established channel. That is it.

  • DS 5.2.4 Upgrade Issue - Unable to login to console

    Hello! I have not been able to login to DS console after I have patched it to 5.2.4. I have found another thread with the same issue with solution https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=8517561 (add ldap library into runtime linking environment using crle) provided but I'm still unable to login to console after I applied the solution. Please kindly advise! Thank you.

    Hi anyone can advise me on this?

  • Client auth error

    I am using iPlanet Web Server 6.0 SP4 on Solaris 2.8 that is enabled for SSL and Client-auth.
    In order to validate the client certificate, I configured this server to use my own Plug-in by adding authTrans line in "obj.conf":
    <Object name=default>
    AuthTrans fn="vsCheckClientCert"
    </Object>
    During startup, web server fails with following error.

    My SAF (vsCheckClientCert) works fine if I disable the servlets. It also works by disabling the Web Application State in server.xml
    <VSCLASS id="defaultclass" objectfile="obj.conf" rootobject="default" acceptlanguage="off">
    <VS id="https-cvm-test-444" state="on" urlhosts="psingal-sun.verisign.com" mime="mime1" aclids="acl1" connections="group1">
    ===> <VARS webapps_file="web-apps.xml" webapps_enable="off"/>
    </VS>
    </VSCLASS>
    I am facing the problem only with iPlanet 6.0, the SAF worked fine with "Servlet Enabled" in the previous releases of iPlanet 4.x. Is there any way by which my SAF works with default server settings i.e. Servlet Enabled and Web Application State On?

    If I modify the start-jvm file so that NSES_JDK points to an older version of the JDK ( /usr/Solaris_JDK_1.2.2_07 ) ... or a newer one ( /usr/j2sdk1.4.0_02 ) ... then the admserv instance starts up.
    Having said that, in an effort to try to replicate the problem, I tried the same JDK upgrade on another Solaris8 SPARC installation, also with iPlanet 6.0 SP4. That one worked fine with any problems. The admserv instance started fine after the upgrade.
    The only different thing that I did was:
    1) I first told iPlanet6 to point to a different JDK location ( JDK 1.3.1_03 in /usr/j2sdk1_3_1_03 ) before the upgrade ....
    2) restarted the admserv instance ...
    3) install JDK 1.3.1_07 ( /usr/j2se )
    4) told iplanet6 to point to the JDK 1.3.1_07 ( /usr/j2se )
    5) restart the admserv instance
    Why would it not work with one installation and not the other ?

    This maybe the final clue. I did a truss via:
    truss -f ./start -start 2&> err
    ... and this is what I get just before the NoClassDefFoundError exception ( look at the SIGSEGV ):
