Iws 6.0 web server load question

What are the advantages (if any) of running multiple web server instances (iplanet 6.0 sp4) vs. one server with increased thread count. I'm unclear after reading through documentation what the limits of one iplanet httpd server are...I know you can manupulate threads as needed but how does one process scale with increased load vs. having two on the box?
Can one process handle all the traffic from a 100mb full duplex qfe card (ie, could the card handle the pipe being fully utilized)? It seems to me that if it's threaded than it should be able to...what would another process do that threads can't?
I ask this question because I've got an application coming with these specs:
Top end load capability of 150 hits per second.
13,500 users per day with average 3.6 server interactions per second
And I've got two Sun 280r's with 2 900mhz cpu each sitting behind a load balancer.
TIA

What are the advantages (if any) of running multiple
web server instances (iplanet 6.0 sp4) vs. one server
with increased thread count.Using multiple web server instances (or a single instance with multiple processes) can improve scalability on machines with large numbers of processors, especially when using in-process dynamic content, such as Java Servlets or NSAPI plugins, or when using SSL.
Using a single web server instance with a single process generally results in a more efficient use of resources, particularly memory, and consolidates configuration and administration activities.
Can one process handle all the traffic from a 100mb
full duplex qfe card (ie, could the card handle the
pipe being fully utilized)?A single iPlanet Web Server 6.0 process on the hardware you describe (2 CPU 280R) should be able to saturate a 100Mb link when serving unencrypted static content. Using multiple processes would not improve performance in this situation.

  • Personal Web Server - Configuration Question

    Hi All,
I am attempting to change the 'home directory' of the personal web server from the default to '\www'. Based on my understanding this can be done by simply editing 'httpd.conf'.
However, I am unable to edit this file, or even make a copy of it. The account that I am using has got the 'administrator' check enabled, and when attempt to type 'su' in the console, and enter my password, it responds with 'sorry'.
How does one therefore get enough permissions to edit this file?
    Regards
    Olaf

You probably can't su to root in the terminal because root is disabled by default as a security measure. If you want to edit that file you can use sudo to execute a command as root. In the terminal try:
    sudo emacs httpd.conf
and then enter your password. You'll probably have to save it to another location because of directory permissions and then copy it over or something. The rest is left as an exercise to the reader.

  • IPhone EAS Server Load question

We are in the process of introducing the iPhone into our corporate structure. However we are running into some delaying tactics by some of our IT management. They are saying that they will limit the amount of iPhones because they "significantly use more data" than the OWA (Outlook Web Access) users.
    Is this possible?
Doing my research and reading both Apple's and Microsoft's White Papers regarding the iPhone on Exchange and the EAS, I don't believe that this is the case.
Are there any benchmarks out there that I can show them?
Has anyone else come across this kind of stonewalling?
    Thanks
BTW - I am one of the IT people trying to get this integrated.

    How much extra processing load?
I'm trying to put together a rebuttal to the "significant" excess load they are trying to push off.
It's really impossible to estimate the extra processing load without a lot of information on the server hardware, memory, current CPU utilization percentage, number of iPhones to be supported. All I can tell you is that we didn't notice any significant increase in CPU load when we started supporting iPhones (the CEO wanted one, so we added support). Unless the Exchange server is already running in excess of 80% utilization it won't be noticeable.
Processing load is thus not a viable argument against the iPhone. Viable arguments include security (the iPhone is less secure than a BlackBerry), IT staff workload if they already support Enterprise security on the BB, governance and control...but you shouldn't mention these if they haven't thought about them
Your problem is going to be your word against theirs, and they will win unless you can get executive level support. So focus on personal networking rather than technical viability.

  • Default web server address?

    Hi.
I'm using Oracle Expres Editon 10g release 2, with the application builder that came with: Product Build:      2.1.0.00.39 . on windows xp.
I want to add this tag in a report form:
    <div style="text-align:center;">
    <img src="C:\download\bilder\dogu#NAME#" />
    </div>
But the url seems not to be translated correctly I assume that I should have defined the URL for the image in relation to the default directory for the web server, my question is: How do I find out what is the default directory for the web server?

I had the same problem this morning with a clean install of 10.5 Leopard Server.
I called apple and spoke to a really good guy who ran through a diagnosis with me and advised that under server admin you have your default site built in, what to do is click on that original site then there is a little box under it where you are able to duplicate the site, click this, then basically make everything the same and try through safari and it should work, mine works perfect now.
I asked him why this happens and a easy answer was oh its a glitch we aim to fix it as soon as possible.
    Hope this helps

  • Using JSP in Web Server

    Hi,
Can I use JSPs and Servlets without using the Application server in the web server?

    Hi,
By default JSP and Servlets are supported by iWS/SUN ONE Web Server. For iWS till version 4.1 you need to manually enable the servlet engine and jsp. This can be done from the Server side, goto admin mode, select the server for which you want to activate the JSP, select servlet tab and click on appropriate radio button (YES) for Enabling JSP's and Servlet's.
NOTE: If you disable Servlet engine and JSPs are enabled, JSPs will also be disabled.
From version 6, JSP support is enabled by default.

  • How can you display a dynamically loaded vi to the Web Server?

I am working with LabView 6.1 and the Web Server. I can call a subvi and have it display on a remote machine using a browser with no problem. But what I would like to do is dynamically load and run a vi and have it display on the remote computer using only a browser. I have tried a small example of a front panel that invokes the run vi method (and fp.open prop) on another vi when a button is pressed, but the invoked vi is displayed only on the local computer. Is there any way of viewing dynamically loaded vi's on a remote machine without having a copy of LabView running on it?

If i understand your question correctly, you want to monitor vi that are dynamically loaded on a remote machine without having LabVIEW installed on the machine from witch you want the monitor. I don't think it's possible how ever a good reference book would be Internet applications in LabVIEW. You can find it on BARNES&NOBLE.
    Hope i could help

    Hi friends,
I have the code of a simple File Based Multithreaded Web Server. I have been asked to add proper http/1.1 Keep-Alive behavior to it. Sorry I've not been of much help to you.

  • Mini Web Server Question

I'm guessing there might be a person or two who can help me with a solution for a new mini that I'm using as a web server. Everything is set up and working perfectly. Apache is running well, and I've established my Virtual Hosts and enabled PHP and MySQL. What I haven't been able to figure out, however, is how to go about limiting access to particular directories on my server.
Here is what I would like to accomplish.
I've got a couple of sights that have the root directory of /www/sitename/publichtml/.
In those public_html directories are resource directories with names like "images" "downloads" etc.
From my websites, I pull resources from those directories in order to serve images, resources, etc.
What I would LIKE to do is still allow those directories to serve the resources to the sites, but prohibit direct access to those directories from direct web access. In other words, I want my images to pull from those directories, but I don't want someone to be able to directly navigate to the directory www.sitename/images/imagename.jpg.
I would like some message to show up along the lines of "You do not have permission to access this directory".
I attempted to do this with file permissions, but it either allows total access to the directory or won't allow the web pages to pull the resources.
Does anyone know of any other solution that will help me accomplish my goal?

You are going to be more likely to get a good answer to this question in the Mac OS X Server forums. If you are using Leopard Server, go [here|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1237].
If you are using Mac OS X Web Sharing you should post [here|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1225].

  • Calling SQL Loader from ColdFusion Web Server

We are trying to Load Data files into Oracle through a Cold Fusion Web Application. Users will browse to a local file on their computers, click a button, and our application will use SQL Loader to load the data into oracle. The ColdFusion web server is Unix and the 11g database server is Linux. When we run the ColdFusion code below we get a file not found error, the sqlldr executable cannot be found. Do we need to install an Oracle client or something on the ColdFusion Web server to get this to work?
    <cfexecute name="sqlldr" arguments="ADVDEMO@ADVDEMO/Transact2011 control=/space/users/www/advfiles/ControlFiles/BS/Bio_ControlFile.ctl" timeout="500"></cfexecute>

'sqlldr' is part of Oracle server or (full) Oracle client software - NOT the OS - so indeed you need to install at least the client. Unfortunately 'sqlldr' is not part of the Instant Client, which is much smaller than the full client.
Some guys tried to add 'sqlldr' manually:

  • Question: crossdomain.xml without web server

    Hi, Flex Gurus,
In case where I want to use Flex to communicate with a
non-web server machine, e.g. mysql, where should the
crossdomain.xml reside on the non-web server machine?
    thanks,
    sw

Well at that point you would put it where ever Flex can load
the file locally and do Security.loadPolicyFile("url"). However if
you are going to be using a socket for the connection I'm pretty
sure crossdomain.xml isn't what you're looking for, with the recent
security changes to the Flash Player I think you are looking more
for a Socket Policy File. You can read up on what I'm talking about
    here at the following link.

  • Configuring Web Server (IWS 6.0) on separate machine with IAS 6.0 SP3 (test drive)

    Hi All,
I want to install the application server (IAS 6.0 SP3) on a Unix (Solaris 8)
server and web server (IWS 6.0) on another Windows NT server, in another
    words a webless installation.
I have installed the IWS 6.0 on the NT machine and IAS 6.0 SP3 on the Unix
server successfully, but am having problem on the NT machine because the NT
version of the IAS 6.0 SP3 Evaluation doesn't allow installation of just the
web connector, and so I installed the whole package and then tried to
manually change the configuration so that hopefully it will marshall the
requests to the IAS installed on the Unix server. I couldn't get it to work
and it is giving an error that says
    GX Error (GX2GX)
    socket result code missing!!!
Have anyone else come across this scenario? I will appreciate it if you
could enlighten me on how it can be done. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You donot have any option to choose a perticular component with iAS testdrive on
NT. So, you can not install only plugin at the webserver end.
I think manual editing doen not help. Can you please let me know what
    modifications have you done clearly.
    Thanks,

  • Captivate Files Loaded on Web Server

I have loaded a captivate file (along with all its dependent files) onto a web server in order to link it to our Plateau LMS.  I had no problem with the link, but a narration that is supposed to start later in the file begins when the main Captivate page is opened.  I am not the creator of the Captivate file and have never worked with the program.  Is there something that needs to be done to the file to keep it from doing this?

Are you using Aggregator? Or is is a very long project? I've noticed Aggregator projects often want to jump into the audio while the presentation is still loading. The easiest fix for that is via Edit --> Preferences. Select Start and End in the Project group, uncheck Auto Play, and, as a touch of class, add a graphic to be displayed until the user presses the play button (which will be in the middle of the presentation when it loads).

  • Could not load servlet information from web server

I am trying to register a servlet through the web object manager.
As soon as click the web object manager menu pick I get the following
error: Could not load servlet information from web server.
On other peoples machines here it works fine and they can register
    servlets. What am I missing!

You must be using Jdev 3.2.x, this is a known bug. In Jdev 9.0.2 we use the standard J2EE web.xml in order to register servlets. You should consider moving to the new IDE.
