J2EE and J2SE

Hi, I´m a new SAP Netweaver platform developer, and I need to learn how to use the J2SE client application connections (Jco) with R/3 system on my engine J2EE... Do I have to rebuild them? or Do I have to make a new application on JSP or APPLET?

Hi,
the question is, what you want to do with it. First of all it continues to run I suppose. Though, the question should be, what you cannot do with it, what you want to realize with NetWeaver. From there you get to the next steps.
Surely you can reuse your code in a new app - the question merely is why you want to rewrite.

  • Download of latest J2EE and J2SE

I am new to the technology, tried downloading the software from the site, but due to slow connection I am not able to download the package, I also tried using download accelerator and sun download manager but all in vain. If someone can help me to find if I can order the CD-ROM for the same I do not need the licensed software, I need it for test and not for production. As far as I know it is freely downloadable. But CD, if somebody will let me know how much will that cost? And if directly sun people can help me in getting this CD.
Thanks for looking into my problem..

As for J2EE installation - if I understood correctly this is Windows ME and you'll need to take a look at
this in order to get installer to run:

and this to get an idea how to tweak bat scripts and environment settings:

  • J2EE and related J2SE/JRE versions

I understand the difference between J2EE and J2SE/SDK/JDK, and JRE. However, I'm having trouble identifying what version of SDK each of the J2EE versions uses. Maybe they match up.
For example, if I have an old project someone says was built with J2EE 1.3 SDK, does that use J2SE/JRE 1.3? Does Java EE 5 use Java 1.5? 1.6? 1.4? (For example, if I'm setting Eclipse Compiler Compliance Level for a J2EE 1.3 project, what should it be?)

is there a way for me to know what Java version that would have been or could have been compiled against? No.
Edit: Slight clarification - the class files in the application contain a magic number that corresponds with the compiler target - so for any given class file you can determine what JRE was targeted at compile time. This can be different from the compiler version. Different classes in the same application may have been targeted to different JRE versions.
Are there any versions of Java that it could not be compiled against? No.
what version of Java does the Application Server on which this will be deployed support. The Application Server will be running on a JRE corresponding to a particular Java release. That JRE will support all versions of Java prior to the release. Code compiled on subsequent versions of Java can, if suitably written, be targeted to run on that version of the JRE and (depending on versions) may not need specific targeting to do so. Whether they in fact work or not depends entirely on what library calls they make.

  • J2EE and JServ

    I used JSDK 2.0 and J2SE 1.4.1. with Apache JServ 1.1.2.
Then I changed using jsdk.jar to j2ee.jar in order to use new version. It compiles very well without a problem but a serious error occurs when the servlet is invoked.
I believe the error occurs because wrapper.classpath that in jserv.properties still tries to use jsdk.jar instead of j2ee.jar that I changed. The error message in jserv.log is as follows:

    Hi,
I am encountering the same problem which you got while
    integrating J2EE.jar with APACHE Jserv.
Did you get a solution for this?
If so, please mail to me.

  • J2EE vs J2SE

I have J2SE installed in my PC. Now I am starting to learn EJB and I will install J2EE. Should I install J2EE over J2SE or should I install it on a different directory? Thanks.

I just installed the full J2EE on my server, for the EJB stuff etc.
J2EE contains J2SE! J2SE is the Java Development Kit (JDK), look in your j2ee installation directory
    <je22_install_dir>/jdk
J2EE also contains its own ant and some kind of ant wrapper called asant.
If you just download the j2ee application server you will have to inform it of your current JAVA_HOME during the installation process, but if you do install the full j2ee it will install itself.
All I really had to do was change my JAVA_HOME environment variable, everything seems to be working fine.

  • JDK1.5.0 and J2SE 5.0

    Hi Friends,
I'm trying to download jdk from sun website...I got a doubt like is JDK1.5.0 and J2SE both are same...if not...wht is the difference....
    thanks
    keshav

JDK (Java Developpment Kit) is the old name.
J2SE (Java2 Standard Edition) is the new name for standard JDK (versus J2EE, Java2 Enterprise Edition)
    So JDK1.5.0 == J2SE 1.5.0 == J2SE 5.0 (for marketing concerns, Sun crunched the "1." before the "5". "1.5.0" is developpers language, "5.0" is end-user langauge)

  • Difference between, jre, jdk, sdk and j2se

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I want to do some java and j2ee development and run these applications in a java application server environment. Can anyone give me some advices on what should i need to download? Moreover, what is the difference between, jre, jdk, sdk and j2se? Should i need to download all of jre, jdk, sdk and j2se?
    thanks and regards,
    david

JRE is the 'java runtime environment'. It is responsible for creating a Java Virtual Machine to execute Java class files (e.g., run Java programs)
JDK is the 'java development kit'. It is the same as the 'SDK' (at least in my mind). It normally comes bundled with a JRE and also allows you to compile Java source files into Java class files. The JDK allows you to both write and run programs.
J2SE is "Java 2 Standard Edition". It can refer to either a JDK or JRE. This is 'core' Java. There is also J2EE "Java 2 Enterprise Edition" which allows you to write middleware or server code more easily.
Your final choice will be which version. If you want the current, most common implementation:
    J2SE 1.4.2, J2EE 1.3
If you want to skip ahead to the next generation, the latest releases would be:
    J2SE 1.5 (also called J2SE 5.0) and J2EE 1.4

  • System error after installing 10.4.6 Update and J2SE 5.0 Release 4

    Hi,
I just installed OS X 10.4.6 update and J2SE 5.o Release 4 and the system doesn't start any more. I get a black screen which says:
[date] [my computer name] getty:/dev/console: Operation not supported by device
    Any suggestions?
I will try to start from CD (when I am home later), but first I need to eject the DVD, which is still in the drive. How to do this when the system does not start?
    Thanks,
    Ulrike

    Hi Ulrike,
I will try to start from CD (when I am home later),
but first I need to eject the DVD, which is still in
the drive. How to do this when the system does not
    start?
All CD/DVD drives that come installed in a Mac should allow you to eject the CD/DVD tray. Check your owner's manual--the instructions on how to eject the tray are usually given there. For example, on some PowerBook models you had to gently insert a paper clip into one side of the loading slot and push. On the DVD drive in my PowerMac there is a small hole through which I can instert a paper clip.
As for what is causing your problems, I don't know. From what I've gathered, however, installing the combo update (~140 megs) is more reliable than the incremental one (~60 megs). Booting from an external drive helps, too. You might try that.

  • Flex mobile project standalone flex server resets to J2EE and can not change

Developing an Android mobile project with FB 4.5. Set original project-->properties-->flex server to standalone with coldfusion as server.  After setting web root, Root URL and Coldfusion root folder app works fine with CF. Sometime during development, flex server gets set to J2EE and CF access halts.  Go back into project-->properties-->flex server and reset server to 'standalone' with original settings.  click Apply or OK and assume that it is reset but it does not.  Go back into flex server settings and it is still J2EE.  I have seen this issue before and can not resolve it or find any other threads where there is a resolution to this.  My only way to continue is to start a new mobile project, import the files and continue.  This is not an acceptable way to design any mobile project!!  HELP!!

  • Deploy differences between 904 standalone and 903 J2EE and Web cache versio

I am trying to port an application from jboss (3.0.3) to OAS 9iAS rel2. Since the application uses local interfaces in the EJBs, I am using the pre-release versions of OAS. My development environment also include ant and xdoclet. I am not using JDeveloper or TopLink and would prefer not to due to the different targets we are using.
I have successfully portet to the 9.0.4 OC4J (standalone) version. In doing so I have collected all my EJB-class files in one jar, appName-ejb.jar, which along with the war-file and META-INF files go in the ear-file. Attempting to deploy this ear-file directly in 9.0.3 "J2EE and Webcache" version gives me the following error message in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console: "Deployment failed: Nested exception Root Cause: Syntax error in source. Syntax error in source"
The how-to:Implement Local Interface (cmplocal) also use a single jar-file, cmplocal-ejb.jar. The description is targeted toward OC4J standalone. I have not attempted to deploy this ear-file in the "j2ee and webcache" version.
The Petstore demo ear-file (ref: "O9iAS Containers for J2EE User's Guide (9.0.3)") has all its beans in separate jar-files and deploys without any problems. The documentation also indicate that all beans has to be in separate jar-files in the root of the ear-file i.e this is a requirement. Do I understand the documentation correctly?
Why the difference between the standalone version and the next version? Does not the possibility having to maintain a a large number of bean-jar-files in the root of the ear-file make development/deployment much more difficult than necessary?
    Does there exist any batch-workarounds?

  • Confusion over J2SE and J2SE SDK

    Hi,
I understand that J2SE (Java2 Platform, Standard Edition) is an abstract specification from Sun and J2SE SDK is Sun's implementation of J2SE platform.
If Sun is releasing a new version of their J2SE platform, what are the things from the below list that can be changed and how.
    1. The Java Virtual Machine Specification
    2. Java API
    3. The Java Language Specification
For example, I notice that for every new release, only the API version is changed where as the The Java Languge and JVM specifications remained the same since very long. Let us say that a new keyword is added, shouldn't the JVM spec and the Java Language Spec change??
Where can I get the release notes of J2SE (not J2SE SDK)?

  • New to J2EE and web development in java

    Hi folks,
I have been developing desktop app in C# for the past two years. But now I am taking my masters and I am learning in Java. I am also interested in J2EE and wanted to develop web apps in Java. The problem is, I am very much confused with the tools, classes and etc Java uses. For example people say to me, you have to know Struts, Spring, JSP, Ant, Tomcat, Apache Tomcat, Hibernate, and etc. I tried to search every one of those and got some clue but not that much detail and now I am really confused.
Before I go to coding (which is my interest), I wanted to know what tools to know and why and how they are used, at least the basics. Once I get some idea, I will keep on searching by myself. Can any body please tell me or give me a link of what tools I have to start with as a begineer web developer? Can any body give me a brief description about them?I downloaded Eclipse and I am almost familier on how to use it and I also write some code on it. These days, I downloaded J2EE, Struts, and Hibernate but I dont know how to use them and where to use them. No clue. Help me guys.
    Thank you.

Step 1 : Download "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers". You don't need anything else in terms of tools at the start.
Step 2 : Get solid experience in basic Java development. Make sure you are very comfortable with the language and core API classes such as I/O, collections, etc. Do this in a basic Java project in Eclipse.
Step 3 : Learn JSP and Servlets. These two technologies are the foundation of Java EE web app development. Use "Dynamic Web Project" in Eclipse and Tomcat as your server. For a good exercise, build a web app to manage a catalog of something by reading/writing to a text file local to the server.
Step 4 : Learn JPA. This is the standard for modern Java database access. Make sure you learn JPA standard rather than a specific implementation like Hibernate. In fact, since you are asking on an Oracle site, I would recommend EclipseLink implementation of JPA rather than Hibernate. For an exercise take your app from Step 3 and make it use a database instead of a file. Use MySQL as your database.
By the time you get this far you will have a good foundational knowledge of Java EE web development. Where you go from here will depend on your interests. If you are more interested in the web tier, you can learn some of the higher-level front-end technologies such as JSF or Struts that make it easier to build very large apps. If your interests are more in middle tier and scalability, start learning EJBs. Don't bother learning Ant or Maven unless your interests are specifically in build systems and release engineering. You don't need to know Ant/Maven to build/run/export Java EE applications in Eclipse.
    Good luck!

    Hi Ken --
We are just about wrapped up with our Oracle9iAS Release 2 (9.0.3) version for Windows NT. As you've seen, we have released the 903 version for a number of Unix platforms (Solaris, HP-UX, HP-Tru64, Linux) already and the Windows platform will follow shortly.
For the moment, if you're running on Windows and want to use the J2EE 1.3 functionality, you can download the pure Java OC4J 903 distribution available from OTN. This is the same set of Java code that is the 9iAS distribution.
