Japanese email encoding setting possible?

In Japan, the traditional encoding for mail transport has been JIS encoding. And the traditional encoding for web content has been ShiftJIS. Typically a site would receive the email in JIS, convert to ShiftJIS and store the contents in the database.
Lately this has moved more towards UTF-8, but there are still a lot of web sites which are ShiftJIS and JIS is considered a standard encoding for email transport.
At a particular network I post at, they run their site in ShiftJIS and assume email arrives in JIS - the traditional standard.
But email sent from the iPhone ends up corrupted when posted to the site because it seems that the iPhone Mail app sends its messages using UTF-8 encoding.
My question is, does anybody know a way to change the default Japanese message sending encoding from UTF-8 to JIS?

ISO-2020-JP and Shift-JIS are quite different.
That is true. ISO-2022-JP is JIS and is used for the mail transport. This particular server receives ISO-2022-JP email and then converts it to Shift-JIS for storage in the database. Receiving JIS and converting it to Shift-JIS is pretty common. That's why I wanted to convert UTF-8 to Shift-JIS - for ultimate storage in the database.
I think that conversion might not be possible via algorithm but require tables.
I'm afraid that might be true also. I've been looking around for some JavaScript code that might do that conversion, using tables, but haven't been able to find any.
The easiest thing would be if there was a way of getting the iPhone to send Japanese email using ISO-2022-JP.
The next easiest (and actually more robust) solution would be modifying the server to accept UTF-8 messages as well, but converting them to Shift-JIS when storing in the database. Then the server could receive both JIS and UTF-8 emails.
The best long-term solution would be converting the enter server system to UTF-8, but that would be a huge project, and conversion of all the existing content would be required as well. And the whole emailing system in the server would need to be modified.

2..JDK 1.3
I am retriving some data from the database in my JSP(say JSP1).Some of this data
is in Japanese.Now I form a URL using some of the Japanese Data and forward it to the
next jsp(say JSP2).
The Japanese data retrived in JSP1 appears fine on the Browse screen.However when in JSP2
I try to get these paranmeters(in Japanese) from the request (i.e. request.getParameter(..)), they come up
in mangled form.
All the JSPs of my applications include the following page directive:-

In the second jsp (JSP B), I have the following code
request.setCharacterEncoding("Shift_JIS");
strFile = request.getParameter("FileType");
Although the code seem to be working I am not very clear about this logic please could you explain me the following points :-
1..Why was there a specific need to setCharacterEncoding(), I had already set <%@page contentType="text/html; charset=Shift_JIS"%>
in both the jsps, doesn't that imply that the response encoding and the request decoding be done using 'Shift_JIS'
2..The same initial code (without addition of the line - request.setCharacterEncoding("Shift_JIS")) worked on my colleagues PC(he was NOT accessing my server though).How was that possible, are there any specific browser/server level setting which be set to default?
3..In Internet Explorer,if you GO to 'Tools' -> 'Internet Options' -> 'Advanced' Tab ,there is an option ' Always send URLs as UTF-8' .
What is the significance of this setting ?
4..How would the browser encoding setting(under 'View' -> 'Encoding') , effect jsps, which are using a specific encoding?

I am trying to create a script to send a message I have in my drafts folder at a particular time, i intend to use ikey or keyboard Maestro to run the script but I am struggling with the script itself, can anyone direct me?

In that case, unless you actually need to review the contents of the email in order to approve the invoice, I would use dispatch time '2' and specify the 24 hour hold on the NAST record. RSNAST00 will not process the record until that time and the email will not be dropped into the queue. This is a safer method than allowing the email to be generated and possibly processed incorrectly. You can set a wait time on an email as well though.

I have recently purchased the iphone 5S and have two AOL email accounts set up on it. They could both receive and send mail on the first day, but from the second day only 1 can send mail (both still receive). I get an message saying "Unable to send mail. A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed." This has been the response now for 3 days and suddenly this morning, I was able to send an email from this account, but only the one and now it's back to that same message. I have deleted and added the account again, using various methods. I even reset my phone and set it all up again from beginning with no luck. It is very frustrating and I am unsure why I can't send from both accounts, especially being that they are the same provider. I have read forums and it appears many have this same problem and I wondered if anyone has had it recently on this phone and how they fixed it. Someone said just use the AOL app to send from this account, yes that can be done, but it's inconvenient having to sign in all the time when i have a mail app that should work automatically. Any suggestions would be welcomed!!

I am not sure if this issue is going to help you but lets give it a try.
I know that where im from, which is the Netherlands, I am not able to sent e-mails from my iPhone or any other mobile device by using 3G or a random WIFI acces point. The provider only allowes you to sent e-mails when you are connected to a network of there own. Which means if you have provider "101" and your email settings are set up for this provider in your iPhone but your using the network of a friend of yours which is provider "202" you cannot sent emails from his network. Though you can receive them you may not sent.
As I said, I am not aware if this issue is the same for you totaly depents on the country and provider your using.

On your iPad, you may need to follow the steps in this article to make sure your folders are visible:

On your Mac, I am not sure if you have the sidebar enabled, but you can enable it using the steps in the article below. When this is showing, you should see your email account listed near the bottom with a triangle next to it. When the triangle is pointing down, it should show your folders:

HT1692 Have recently installed itunes and outlook on a new computer. Have multiple email accounts set up in Outlook tho only use contacts and calendar in relation to one of these. Cannot sync itunes with the correct contacts and calendars, Help!

Very frustrated now that I have recently installed itunes and outlook on this new computer. Everything worked perfectly ok on my laptop which was also 64-bit Windows 7 and running 32-bit Microsoft Office 2010 Pro. Cannot sync itunes with the correct contacts and calendars, when I sync the calendar and contacts are empty. Not sure if there is any way to point itunes to particular address books and calendars.

I had my home computer set up to sync to work's Exchange server. It worked well, but I didn't like seeing work email messages and other programs trying to sync with my default Outlook folder, which was then the Exchange (& work related) .ost file. I know there are various ways to manage those problems using filters, view, subfolders, etc., but it was a hassle for me. I think it could work well for many other folks.
For now, I have published my work calendar and subscribed to that calendar on my home computer. So I have view only access to my calendar on my home computer (and I can add/edit calendar items on my iPad (or Outlook Web Access) when away from work). This is not quite what I wanted, but it may work.
It almost makes me long for the days when I used my Windows Mobile Treo to sync back and forth between exchange at work and outlook at home (but had many sync conflicts as a result).

They can share an Apple ID, but each device must use a different email address when setting up FaceTime. Create a gmail email (or hotmail, or ...) address and use that on one of the devices when you setup FaceTime.
You don't actually have to use the 'new' email address, it is probably just used as an index to reference the correct device when initiating a call via the FaceTime server.

Open Mail preferences and select Accounts then MailBox Behavior. You probably need to unclick the safe draft to server.

Viewing Chinese Characters / Encoding setting in SQL Developer

I am new to SQL Developer 1.1. I have just downloaded the tool yesterday.
I have a table where there "should" be chinese characters in a NVARCHAR2 column. But I see only inverted question marks when displaying that data in SQL Developer.
I know from a ressource on the web, that SQL Developer is able to display chinese characters ( see http://awads.net/wp/2006/07/06/sql-developer-and-utf8/ ).
The NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET is set to AL16UTF16; the NLS_CHARACTER_SET is set to WE8ISO8859P1.
The encoding under Tools->Preferences->Environment is set to "Cp1252".
What is actually the influence of this Encoding setting and do I have to make changes to that to view the data?
In addition I have to admit, that we actually do not really know if the data entered the DB correctly, that is as chinese characters. Maybe there have occured conversion errors that were made in a application that writes the data into the database. Actually I want to verify that. So, if I have the right settings configured which should be fine to see chinese characters and then I see only inverted question marks I can conclude that the data actually entered the database corrupted and the error is not an display issue with SQL Developer but rather an error in the application that writes the data to the database.

SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK.

I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

I'd like to re-import my entire library, but i am worried that the encoder setting in preferences will re-encode everything to one file type, such as mp3 or aiff. How do i tell itunes to leave all of my file types alone?

The encoder settings only apply to audio CDs which you import - the assumption is that you don't want to take up disk space with the large files of a CD, but you can set it to AIFF (it looks as if audio CDs contain AIFF files when you open them but this is an illusion: the format is specific to CDs* so they still have to be converted if you want uncompressed AIFFs).
Any prexisting files which you drop into iTunes remain in the format they were in in the first place.
If you are re-importing your audio CDs I should do so as AIFF so that they are uncompressed: you can then change the import settings to MP3 or AAc or whatever, and then select the files and choose 'Create MP3 (or AAC) version' to make a copy in your desired format., and subsequently delete the originals.
(*Solomon-Reed cross-interleave if you really want to know - the data is jumbled up and has strong error correction so that it can survive scratches and other minor surface damage: the same is not true of data CDs containing for example MP3 files, where one scratch can bork the entire file.)
