Japanese punctuation marks on iOS

Our Japenese translators noticed that punctuation marks (dot and comma) are not displayed correctly in our Adobe AIR application when running on iOS. The marks are displayed vertically centered instead of bottom aligned. It does not reproduce on Android and desktop. I'm using device font to display the labels. Any workarounds?

Hi,
So there are fonts that can have all types of glyphs. In our specific example both Chinese and Japanese glyphs. In such a case a character code could resolve to both Chinese and Japanese and with both choices the runtime may pick either of the glyphs based on a certain logic. If however you make sure and use the right font name then the runtime knows exactly where to look. Try changing the font to a Japanese font, I think that should work.

  • Japanese Encoding Problem on iOS

Hi, Did anyone ever use Mobage Japanese plugin for Unity ios? I am building Unity iOS game for Mobage platform. There is a method (MobageJPService.shareMessage (message, title, pictureUrl, dismissCB)) to share message to iOS e-mail, twitter and Line, but when I pass Japanese strings, but it shows up with lots of question marks. Any solutions or suggestions?

If you are using third party tools, you will have to ask them for support. It is very unlikely that anyone here knows anything about them.

  • Change user's OU with punctuation mark doesn't work by Rename User View

    Hi,
I have problem with moving user between OU by Rename User View when punctuation mark in name of OU is used.
I have own WF that assign user to specific OU depending on value of Select component. When value of this component is changed (against previous value) I call Rename View, that assign user to new OU. For OU without punctuation mark Rename View works OK.
After finishing WF with punctuation mark in OU this Error appers:
java.lang.RuntimeException: There is no such object on the server.
But creating new AD account (by role assignment) in OU with punctuation work OK. In select component is rule that replace puctional character in correct form.

    Hi,
    I discovered following:
    - if name of OU in AD is without space (e.g. test, sample) so DN record is test\,sample and user is moved into this OU.
    - if name of OU in AD is with space (e.g. test, sample) so DN record is still test\,sample and user isn't moved.
So problem is with empty space. How can I preserve space in DN name? I found something in documentation but I doesn't work for me.
    +Special Characters in FieldValues
If you have a field value with a comma (,) or double quote (") character, or you want to preserve leading or trailing spaces, you must embed your field value within a pair of double quotes ("field_value"). You then need to replace double quotes in the field value with two double quote (") characters. For example, "John ""Johnny"" Smith" results in a field value of John "Johnny" Smith. +
(from IDM Business Administrator's Guide, p.77)
Guided this information I put value of slctOrganizationalUnitUzivatele into "". But this didn't work. Is good idea to have space in DN?
    Thanks for help.

  • German quotation marks on iOS

    Hello,
as a German I would like to use German quotation marks on iOS. In German they open at the bottom and close at the top.
I find it very annoying having to go through all texts I wrote on my iPad just to correct all the quotation marks.
    Thanks in advamce!

Do you mean like this   „      ”  ? If so switch to the numbers screen, hold your finger on the quotation mark key, slide it up to the desired quote mark, release finger.

  • Why I cannot use SIRI in Japanese after updated to ios 5.1?

Why I cannot use SIRI in Japanese after updated to ios 5.1?
I can see the language is there but it doesnt work

Check your settings to make sure Siri is actually enabled.  Sometimes I find that Siri will disable during the updating process.  Oh, and it should be iOS 6.0 not 6.1.  6.1 doesn't exist...yet.

  • Using Japanese Crop Marks

I just downloaded the japanese crop marks from Indesign Secrets, saved them in the folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\PrintSpt" I've been using those files since CS3 but for some reason it is no longer working for CS6? Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for your replies, I have ran the update on my illustrator and am now running 16.0.4 (as shown in screen shot) but still do not have this option.
Are you running English CS6 or ME version? We use ME version but Japanese trims were available in CS4 and 5 ME I am just confussed as to why they would take this option away from just the ME version. I have a English copy so I am going to run an update on that and see if I get a different result.

  • Keyboard punctuation marks suddenly changed

I&m a little baffled. When I was using my iPad with the wireless keyboard this morning I was typing along with problems but after a jont in my backpack the punctuatiion marks that correspond to the number no longer match.
2 should be a quotation marks but comes up as @
6 should be the emporers and but now comes up as ^
7 should be an apostrophe but comes up &
8 should be a bracket but comes up *
9 should start the bracket but now (
Other punctuation marks around the keyboard are also switched around. I didn&t turn off the Bluetooth setting when I put it in my bag, so I&m guessing that some combinations of keys switched the layout.
At the bottom to either side of the space bar are keys I can press to change the language but there&s no way I&ve found to revert it back to the layout I used before. Any suggestions?
    thanks
    sws

Good mooring to you both. I tried both your suggestions and neither worked, so I opted for the easy way out; I took out the batteries, wated ten minutes and put them back in. That did work. I can kick myself for not thinking of that sooner. Still, I did learn a bit about setting the keyboard layout, so that you all for taking the time to write me back.
    Cheers,

  • Japanese Crop Marks illustrator CS6

The setting to 'use japanese cropmarks' has been removed from the general settings in illustrator CS6. Any suggestions as to how I can get these back? I want them on my artwork not added at print. I have an Action to add them to my cutter profiles in CS4 and CS5 but this no longer works in 6 as the Japanese Crop Mark setting has been removed. I therefore only get corner trims and not center marks.

Thanks for your replies, I have ran the update on my illustrator and am now running 16.0.4 (as shown in screen shot) but still do not have this option.

  • Adding punctuation marks above text letters

I frequently use the Welsh language in my letters and e-mails and have not yet found a way of placing the circumflex(^) as a punctuation mark over certain vowels, which can convey a quite different meaning to a word if added or omitted. There is a Welsh option in the Keyboard viewer, but this seems no different to the British version.
The mark(^) is, of course, available on the 6 key uppercase, but how do I place it OVER the vowel in question?
    Glad of any suggestions,
    Diolch yn fawr!
    Hen Gymro.

    Caution
It's not sure than a character available in TexEdit may be used in AppleWorks.
TextEdit is Unicode aware while AppleWorks is not.
The chars with a circumflex usable in AppleWorks are:
    Â â Ê ê Ô ô Û û Î î
    Here are some which aren't:
    Ĉ ĉ Ĥ ĥ Ĵ ĵ Ŝ ŝ Ŵ ŵ Ŷ ŷ
For my own use, I built a table of favourites for the Character Palette tool.
In this one, I put the "accented" chars usable in AppleWorks.
So I may enter them by a simple drag and drop.
It's a pity but with Mac OS 10.4.x, the good old double click is no longer usable to enter a char from the palette when AppleWorks is active.
Some one decided to disable it because some users complained because double clicking an Unicode character gave an odd insertion.
This is what in France we describe with the formula (throw away the baby with the bath's water).

  • Indesign ME CS6: Punctuation marks change direction when exporting to PDF

When exporting to PDF (for press) -  some punctuation marks (! & ") beahve as if they're "left -> right" (in the PDF only!) instead of "right->left" - as they appear in the open file.

If I understand this correctly, then before you opened a PC-sourced INDD, this never happened? And now it happens with all new files? Was that PC-sourced InDesign file from an English non-ME install of ID?
If doing so is not a big deal for you, I would almost want to suggest the "Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" approach coined by Sigourney Weaver's character in Aliens. I.e. something happened to your ME install by simply opening up a non-ME file, and clearing prefs didn't fix it, so I'd be ready to uninstall, run the Adobe Clean tool, and reinstall.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
I hope that I'm wrong, and that there is some kind of preference that can be tweaked to get this to work correctly. I'd start by removing Font Explorer X entirely. It's also worth trying to make a new user in OS X and seeing if a fresh user experiences the same issue.

  • AE text replacement script, Hebrew characters and punctuation marks

    Hi,
I'm using a script to replace text on one of my AE projects. When I use English characters it work prefect, the problem is once I'm trying to replace the text with Hebrew I get small arrows (as shown in the attached screen grab) before and after punctuation marks.
Any idea what can cause this kind of behavior, is it script related or the base AE file?

These appear to be glyphs that should be substituted. Could be something to do with specific text flow or multi-variate glyphs that are substituted based on the context of neighboring characters. In any case, short of manually fixing it I don't think there is any way to get this right. AE is quite limited in dealing with any of this stuff and in the past you actualyl needed the Middel East versiosn to get correct RTL writing at all...

  • Text Prediction and punctuation marks [N97]

    Hi!
I've been using 6310i for a veeery long time
Recently I decided to buy N97.
And I have a question concerning the Text Prediction feature.
Very often when I insert a word I'd like to use one of punctuation marks. For example a comma or a full stop.
So after my desired predictive text is inserted I use the "1" button.
And if the punctuation mark is not what I want, e.g. a comma appears and I want a full stop then I press the * button repeatedly to get a desired punctuation mark.
Recently I installed Custom Dictionary application from Nokia Beta Labs.
And when I edited a list of all custom words that have been added I was surprised to see that there were a lot of words with commas, full-stops, question marks at the end of exactly the same words.
    So I made some tests.
It seems that when you insert a desired word and you use the "1" button to insert a punctuation mark and then you use * - the words is automatically saved to the custom dictionary with this punctuation mark at the end.
Do you think this is intentional or maybe I am using the feature incorrectly?

    Thanks guys for your posts!
    @The_Funkateer
If you imagine that the same word is automatically saved to the custom dictionary but with various punctuation marks at the end - you have the answer.
You can notice that always the last used punctuation mark is used.
And sometimes when you insert a word and a punctuation mark and you use * you will see that a totally different word with the same punctuation may appear (if the word has the same combination of keys).
I suppose and I think I'm right that N95 treats "word + punctuation" as a completely new word and moreover the phone saves it automatically and secretly to the custom dictionary even if we don't want them to be saved.
    @chanchan05
Sure, but it has nothing in common with the beta version of Custom Dict.
In my case the Dict works as expected.
It just helped me to discover what is on the list of my custom words and I was really shocked to see over 2000 words (each word repeated several times with different punctuations at the end).
You can make tests to notice what happens every time when you are writing a message.
Insert a word, add a punctuation and use * several times.
Then use the Custom Dict app to edit the list of custom words.
    @foxmeister
    Thanks for the info.
As I can see you are now using the N900.
Does it work better in N900?

  • Safari Doubles My Punctuation Marks..

Does anybody here know why Safari often doubles my punctuation? Here is an example:
Hello,, Bob.. Send it via smpt..mac..com.. I can’’t fix it..
It usually happens when I hit the next keystroke (even the space bar) after typing the punctuation mark, although I can back space and delete the extra character. The page also often freezes while I’m writing text, so I’ve started writing my text in Tex-Edit Plus and just pasting it into the text field in Safari. Even when the page freezes, I can usually still view pages in other tabs. I think that the freezing might happen often when I move by clicking the mouse in a text field and/or use the tab key to change text fields. Have you heard of this before? Thanks.

This problem was solved in another thread by David Gimeno Gost.

  • Japanese, Question Marks, Locales, Eclipse, and Windows XP ????

Hello. I am having some issues localizing JSP to Japanese. I have read a lot of stuff on the topic. I have my .properties file in unicode with native2ascii, etc.
When I debug under Eclipse 3.0, I see the Japanese characters correctly displayed in my properties file and inside of strings internal to to the program. However, when I try to print them with a System.out.println, I get question marks (??????).
My reading tells me that the ???? indicate that the characters cannot be displayed. I am somewhat confused because in the same Eclipse context I can clearly see the Japanese characters in the debugging window.
Thus I am missing the part where I set my standard output to correctly display the characters like Eclipse is displaying them in windows other than the "Console" window.
My default encoding is CP1252. If I do something like:
    out = new java.io.PrintStream(System.out, true, "UTF-8");
and print my unicoded resource from the bundle I get the UTF-8 character representation (&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;&#65533;). With System.out.println I get ?????
My first reaction would be that the Japanese fonts aren't on my system, but clearly they are as I can see them in other windows.
When I try to show a Japanese resource on the web page that is the result of the jsp file I get ????. I can display the same characters UTF-8 encoded in a php page.
    Here is another example:
    java.util.Locale[] locales = { new java.util.Locale("en", "US"), new java.util.Locale("ja","JP"), new java.util.Locale("es", "ES"),
    new java.util.Locale("it", "IT") };
    for (int x=0; x< locales.length; ++x) {
    String displayLanguage = locales[x].getDisplayLanguage(locales[x]);
    System.out.println(locales[x].toString() + ": " + displayLanguage);
    displays:
    en_US: English
    ja_JP: ???
    es_ES: espaol
    it_IT: italiano
instead of the correct Japanese characters.
    What's the secret?
    Thanks.
    -- Gary

What do you want to do exactly? 1. Making a window application? 2. Making a console application? 3. Making a JSP webpage?
    1. If it's window application, there's nothing to worry about if you use Swing. But if you use AWT, it's time to switch to Swing.
    2. If you're making console application, solution does exist as others had pointed out but you'd better forget it because no console in whatever platform supports Unicode (Linux xterm may be an exception? But it probably has font problem). So, even if you could display characters in your computer, the solution isn't universal. You can't ask your every user to switch system locale, install whatever font in order to display a few characters!!
    3. If you're making JSP, I'd advise you to use UTF-8 in webpages. Most browsers nowadays (probably more than 90%) could support UTF-8. All you need is to add the following JSP headers to your every page:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=utf-8" %>
<%@ page pageEncoding="iso-8859-1" %>Now, your every out.println(s); will send the correct data to browser without the least effort from you. All conversions are automatic!
However, just to make things even surer, you could add this HTML meta header:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">You use Tomcat, right? I do, and I don't have any problem.
    Last words:
But, if all you want to do with System.out.println is for debugging, you could use
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "your string here");But you'd better have Java 5, or at least 1.4.2, if you want to have everything displayed correctly.

  • Voice recognition in iOS7 no longer recognizes the spoken word "period" as a punctuation mark.  Any solution to this?

iOS7 changed a feature of voice recognition.
When composing message using voice recognition (not Siri, just the "microphone" icon typically in either iMessage or e-mail) the voice recognition app recognizes spoken words like "comma", "question mark" and "exclamation mark" as punctuation.  For example if you said "Hello exclamation mark how are you question mark", the voice recognition system would type "Hello!  How are you?"  This is perfect and works very well.
Prior to iOS7 it used to recognize the word "period" as well.  If you said "Hello period  how are you question mark" it would respond with: "Hello.  How are you?" Now, after the iOS7 update, if you say "Hello period how are you question mark", you get "Hello period how are you?" typed back to you.  I've tried saying "dot" instead, and it will place a dot in the text, but it doesn't recognize it as a period: "Hello.how are you?"
Is there some setting I'm missing?  Is there a different voice command to get a period?
Edit:  UPDATE.  **SOLVED**  Apparently there are two ways this can happen.  1.) UK Keyboard or 2.) UK Siri.   I did not have the English (UK) keyboard enabled - just plain "English", but I had turned on the English (UK) Siri because I thought he sounded a little like Jarvis.  Anyway, apparently, that's what did it.  As soon as I turned Siri back to English (United States) saying "period" works.  Note:  If you want to keep the UK Siri, you have to say "Full Stop" to get a period.

Thanks for the heads up!  That was driving me nuts, too.  I was using the Australian English because she sounded cuter than Siri.  "Full stop" works for Australian as well.
Now if I can just figure out why the voice to text suddenly can't understand a word or two in almost every long sentence.  It almost comical how badly the translation suddenly works.  I hope it isn't due to the Australian choice as well.  I've already gotten used to her...  : /
