Jar file execution fails

Hi,
May be somebody has an idea about my problem.
I have vendor jar file; Notes.jar with class lotus.notes.NotesThread.class
Now I'm trying to create an instance of NotesThread in my class CustomAgent.
Problem is: when I run just the class: java CustomAgent, it works.
But if I created jar file by jar -cf custom.jar *.class and try to execute it by java -jar custom.jar, it fails and gives me an error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDeffoundError: lotus/notes/NotesThread
Does anybody have any clue?
Thanks a lot

Create a manifest file with the Main-Class property in it.
Main-Class: MyClass
And then create the jar file using the manifest.
jar -cmf mymanifest myjar.jar /workingdir/*.class
Now your jar file will be executable.
Because you are using an external jar file.
Make sure the manifest file also has
the "Class-Path: external1.jar external2.jar"
If you put those external.jar files in the same directory as your jar files you should be okay.
Happy programming.

    Hello friends,

    controller
    model and
    a folder Datafile containing project related xml and text files
    my main class is in application package
    I am creating a jar file of my whole project folder in Eclipse environment, using the main class as TheApplication in application package. I am able to generate the jar file but unable to execute it.
    When I tried to execute it from command prompt it is giving me an error saying no main,
    Please tell me what I am doing wrong, and suggest me a solution
    Thanks in advance

    ya, You are required to put an entry in Malifest file.
    you need to add Main-Class <your class name with which you need to start ur application
    Wasn't this already shown in reply #7?> Yes it was, But as he said, even though he is getting the same problem.. So. I tried to recall him that, that class should the starting point to the application & it should be public & it should have public method.. And is not mentioned in that reply #7
    I guess you got my point now.

  • File.seperator fails accessing jar resource

    my code is like this:
    URL myURL = getClass().getResource("image" + System.getProperty("file.seperator") + imageName);
    It works perfectly when i run from my IDE. But when i package this into a JAR file, it fails with NullPointerException (it cant find the image in my JAR). When I look at what it is doing in the debugger, it seems to create the filename: "image%5c(imagename)" It uses %5c as a file seperator? escape code for "/" (windows environment) i presume??
    If i change my code to "image" + "/" + imageName it works perfect, but this is windows dependent and I dont want to do that.
    Has anyone come across this? what is a simple work around?

    It's not Windows-dependent. You are producing a URL
    there and they always, in all environments, use the /
    character to separate path elements. So yes, you DO
    want to do that.thank you. Why of course, it is a URL and URLs are always using "/".
    So I understand correctly ... if i reference actual FILES on my computer, i should STILL use System.getProperty(file.separator), though, right?

    Hello All,
    I'm making a Java SQL Client. I have practicaly all basic work done, now I'm trying to improve it.
    One thing I want it to do is to allow the user to specify new drivers and to use them to make new connections. To do this I have this class:
    public class DriverFinder extends URLClassLoader{
    private JarFile jarFile = null;
    private Vector drivers = new Vector();
    public DriverFinder(String jarName) throws Exception{
    super(new URL[]{ new URL("jar", "", "file:" + new File(jarName).getAbsolutePath() +"!/") }, ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader());
    jarFile = new JarFile(new File(jarName));
    System.out.println("-->" + System.getProperty("java.class.path"));
    System.setProperty("java.class.path", System.getProperty("java.class.path")+File.pathSeparator+jarName);
    System.out.println("-->" + System.getProperty("java.class.path"));
    Enumeration enumeration = jarFile.entries();
    while(enumeration.hasMoreElements()){
    String className = ((ZipEntry)enumeration.nextElement()).getName();
    if(className.endsWith(".class")){
    className = className.substring(0, className.length()-6);
    if(className.indexOf("Driver")!=-1)System.out.println(className);
    try{
    Class classe = loadClass(className, true);
    Class[] interfaces = classe.getInterfaces();
    for(int i=0; i<interfaces.length; i++){
    if(interfaces.getName().equals("java.sql.Driver")){
    drivers.add(classe);
    Class superclasse = classe.getSuperclass();
    interfaces = superclasse.getInterfaces();
    for(int i=0; i<interfaces.length; i++){
    if(interfaces[i].getName().equals("java.sql.Driver")){
    drivers.add(classe);
    }catch(NoClassDefFoundError e){
    }catch(Exception e){}
    public Enumeration getDrivers(){
    return drivers.elements();
    public String getJarFileName(){
    return jarFile.getName();
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception{
    DriverFinder df = new DriverFinder("D:/Classes/db2java.zip");
    System.out.println("jar: " + df.getJarFileName());
    Enumeration enumeration = df.getDrivers();
    while(enumeration.hasMoreElements()){
    Class classe = (Class)enumeration.nextElement();
    System.out.println(classe.getName());
    It loads a jar and searches it looking for drivers (classes implementing directly or indirectly interface java.sql.Driver) At the end of the execution I have found all drivers in the jar file.
    The main application loads jar files from an XML file and instantiates one DriverFinder for each jar file. The problem is at execution time, it finds the drivers and i think loads it by issuing this statement (Class classe = loadClass(className, true);), but what i think is not what is happening... the execution of my code throws this exception

    I don't see applets mentioned in the supported features nor in the unsupported features so not sure if they are supported you would likely need to contact the operations team to confirm.

    It seems that error is caused because OSB is unable to create temporary jar file in /tmp/alsbTempJars. I looked for path and actually directory alsbTempJars is not present on disk. I had already created that directory in the past so I can't figure why it has been deleted.
    Also I saw some out of disk space error in logs although I checked that it is at least 1Gb free at OSB mount point.
    We've realized of this problem when checking logs after we got an error working with OSB web console.
    To solve this error I had to create alsbTempJars directory and restart the node. Then error stopped and processing continued normaly. I think node activity was interrupted during error as I only see stack traces in log file.
    OSB runs in a Linux machine with user Oracle that is also owner of alsbTempJars directory.
    Hope someone could help us with this.
    Regards,
    Daniel.

    In case /tmp directory is automatically deleted, is it possible to configure a custom directory for alsbTempJars dir in OSB to assure it is never deleted?Add the -Djava.io.tmpdir=newTempDir parameter in the JAVA_PROPERTIES section of the setDomainEnv.sh script. This new location should be outside of the /tmp dir to avoid being cleared by any process.
    I think best soultion would be to have alsbTempJars automatically created whenever /tmp is purged.Doing it on the fly may not be possible however you may anytime raise an enhancement request with support and if prod dev approves it, you may get a fix.

  • SSMA "Loading to database new table File Name.dbo[Table] ...sql execution failed

    In this case I had already processed this table once before 'no changes' and processed the second time I received this error ...sql execution Failed. It's like the sql server 2008 R2 doesn't see or detect the process. Starting Phase #0 Synchronizing Database:
    then it shows 'Loading to database new table file name.dbo[table] ... sql execution failed (this is my issue)

    Hi TheJudge2,
    Based on my understanding, you have installed SQL Server Migration Assistant successfully then you perform migration. After migration, you can’t find the table which you want to migrate to SQL Server 2008 R2 under the database in your SQL Server Management
    Studio, then you perform migration again. Then error message “Loading to database new table file name.dbo[table] ... sql execution failed” is thrown out. Please correct me if I misunderstand your meaning.
    Firstly, I would like to know whether you perform migration from Access database to SQL Server. I have performed migration from Access database to SQL Server in my lab environment.  Based on my test, I could migrate Access database to SQL Server successfully
    and table existed under the database in SQL Server Management Studio after migration.
    Besides, “sql execution failed” is a general error message. It is hard to find out the cause from this error message. Please check the information under the Output in SQL Server Migration Assistant again. It would be better if you can provide the complete
    output information for our deep analysis.
    Best regards,
    Qiuyun Yu

    The jar files are worked before the installation of 1.5 but not after installation of 1.5I am guessing that the Windows file association for .jar somehow got munjed. It's hard to say since you have not provided much information.

    Hi Yogesh - when you say "i don't think the file is corrupt, because it works fine in eclipse", do you mean, you are actually able to publish them to a server and test those out?
    Dont know your exact scenario, but when you say that you took the sbconfig from another machine and used it on your local system, cant we just go ahead with that? I mean, clean up your code base, and then import this latest "working" sbconfig and start afresh?
