Java 5 updater fails to update to version 6?

Hi,
Looks like java 6 is oficially available on java.com, and our java 5 updaters all started notifying us about new available updates, however: the first 3 computers (winXP prof) that were/are running Java 5 in our office failed to update successfully to Java 6. Do other people experience such troubles too?
These fails were enough not to allow updates on other computers.
PS: Our computers don't show any sign of malware nor viruses.
[I will report this as a bug unless other people reply with the same issue.]

    I used your tool and it seems my jnlp file is ok ..(nothing in red)
    I have actually identified the problem and it seems after update to java 6 update 14.. I am not able to access any resources
    Here the function that reads a .csv file
    private int readStateMapData(String theAbName) {
    .............................//lines deleted
    lineBuf = "stateCodes.csv";
    dPanel.showStatus("Reading state code information...", null);
    lineBuf = "map-data/" + lineBuf;
    try {
    URL url = new URL(getCodeBase(), lineBuf);
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(url.openStream()));
    stateID = null;
    while ((lineBuf = in.readLine()) != null) {
    StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(lineBuf);
    String ID = st.nextToken();
    String name = st.nextToken();
    if (name.equals(theAbName)) { stateID = ID; break; }
    in.close();
    if (stateID == null) return STATE_NOT_FOUND;
    } catch (MalformedURLException me) { return BAD_STATECODE_FILE; }
    catch (IOException ie) { return BAD_STATECODE_FILE; }
    I already have a logic built into my program that displays and error message and it shows "cannot read state code file"
    These files are inside my jar. Again if I uninstall java 6 update 14 webstart works fine ..What should I do ??
    Here is my jnlp file :

  • Product: Java X Update X.. removal failed or error status 1602

    Hi
    Managing several different environments I repeatedly run into the same error on "to many" computers.
    We use SCCM as our primary distribution tool and install Java using the embedded MSI and a custom made MST.
    End user platform is: Windows XP and/or Windows 7
    The installs works flawlessly in 95% of all cases but the remaining 5% are still a big hurdle to have to handle manually.
    Problem:
    Installing the newest version returns error code: 1602.
    For a long time I have been ignoring it since it generally means that the end user has cancled the installation. But upon furter investigation I have found out that this is not the case.
    On the individual computer the eventlog actually reports: Product: Java X Update X.. removal failed or error status 1602.
    It is the uninstall of the previous version that fails.
    Does anyone know what causes this and possible a solution?
    Best Regards,
    Christian

    The same problem happened to me. When upgrading from JRE 1.5.0_5 to JRE 1.5.0_6, suddenly no applets would load, and all I could see was the little red X.
    I tried to change proxysettings (I dont use a proxy, but it is told at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/redximage.xml that it is due to wrong proxy-settings). It didn't help.
    I tried to turn off zonealarm. It didn't help.
    I tried to clear the browsers cache. It didn't help.
    I have been using both Firefox 1.5, and IE6. None would load the java-applets.
    So I uninstalled all older JRE versions and installed JRE 1.4.1_02. It worked!
    I then tried to upgrade to JRE 1.5.0. It didn't work.
    Now I am back at JRE 1.4.1_02 without knowing why I had to downgrade through 6 versions that through the last year or so has been working fine on my machine.
    I have no idea why it suddenly wouldnt work with the newer versions.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    So it seems that another issue with Java 7 update 25 and Web Start applications is that a signed application will not launch when offline.
    It fails when attempting to check the revocation status of the signing certificate.
    Anyone have any ideas to get around this exception aside from uninstalling update 25?

  • Office 365 Pro Plus - Fail to update Build version when user clicks 'Cancel'

    I'm planning to deliver Office 365 Pro Plus updates via SCCM 2007 where i can control the build versions and use the already available SCCM to do so.
    My issue is around the user clicking "Cancel" when they are prompted with the notification window to close down Office apps when trying to release an updated build version.
    This is because when the user selects cancel the application fails with "The exit code is 17002, the execution status is FailureNonRetry" =
    FAILED. This message is taken from the execmgr.log.
    Ideally I'd like to allow the user to defer the install say 3 times and afterwards deploy it mandatory...like how you could manage WSUS patches.
    Does anyone have any helpful suggestions around this?  Thanks in advance!

    Generaly, this is not possible I think, at least nothing can be done on Office side. Office
    365 cannot install the new build if any Office applications are running.
    We do have a attribute (FORCEAPPSHUTDOWN) that can be set in configuration.xml file to force shutting down any applications that block the action, but this will not
    make the process your ideal way.
    So through Office if you click Cancel the user cancels the update and will not be re-prompted? Surely in the corporate world you would want them to be compliant and not have the user ultimately manage their patch level?
    I am already using Forceappshutdown but enabled the display level (in the config.xml) which is how they are prompted to close the app. For sure doing this silently would not be feasible.  It would automatically close office regardless. Definite no no.
     I will repost in the SCCM forum and see if i have any luck if what you say is true.  I can't be the only person with this issue.  I need to find some guidance on deferral procedures.

  • Java does not update older version when installing from MSI file

    I'm using an MSI file of Java because it's easier for deploying through SCCM. Anyway when I do everything works fine except it does not update older versions of Java. So for instance if I have Java 7 update 7 and install Java 7 update 21 using the MSI file I'll then have two versions of Java installed on my computer. Anybody know a way to install using the MSI file where it updates older versions of Java (as long as it's the same major revision) like the exe would?

    Yes same problem here. I had a successful rollout with the MSI package and version 1.7 Update 17 on 1500 computers!
    I packaged the Update 21 and on my first test-clients the control panel crashes when I try to open it. But the setup ends successful without any error code all eventviewer entries are successful and it seems that the environment is running. Firefox plugintest was successful.
    Why doesn't offer Orcale the MSI files?! Since last year Java cost me o lot of time deploying Java. There is no update which you can release quickly because there are always bugs to deploy them.

  • HT5045 Is there a way to install older versions of Java, like Java 6 Update 26 on Mac OS X 10.7 ?

    We have an application that worked fine on Java 6 Update 26. Update 29 broke the application. Even though we have fixed the problem, for people using older versions of the application, there is no recourse, if they have upgraded their OS to 10.7. So, is there a way to install Java 6 Update 26 on Mac OS X 10.7 ?

    Hello,
    I have a client that just started working remotely and needs to do payroll via her Mac OS X 10.7.5 system via a web browser. The payroll system appears to be ADP/Kronos as far as I can tell. We first tried using Safari and it said the plugin was missing so we downloaded the latest Java and installed. When we tried to run it dumped the following error. (see below)
    At this point we decided to try Firefox and rather than a dump we found the message Java 1.6.0_07 required.
    At this point we went hunting for an older version of Java and did find one only to be told if was specifically for OS X 10.5.x. My client is running OS X 10.7.5.
    I have other clients running Windows that have multiple (older) versions of Java installed including 4, 5 and 6 all on one machine so I'm not sure if this is possible on Mac OS X or not.
    Note I am not in charge of the payroll system and have no way of updating that side of things. I may recommend that my client contact her internal Help Desk or revert to using a Windows based system as I know for sure that would be capable of handling these requirements.
    Thanks, Jason

  • Upgrading Java 6 Update 3 to Update 5 via group policies fails.

    I need help with this please.
    I originally installed Java 6 Update 3 via group policy without a hitch. Now it's time to updgrade to the latest version ( Java 6 Update 5 ) via group policy. I instructed the policy to remove J6U3 and install J6U5.
    Here's what happens....
    The policy successfully removes U3 and then installs U5. Upon checking add/remove programs I can see U3 is indeed no longer in the list and U5 is listed.
    When I start the IE7 and go to the Verify Java page, I look at the managed add-ons and can see that "Sun Java Console" is pointing to npjpi160_05.dll ( should be ssv.dll ) and that the "Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03" ( should be Java Plug-in 1.6.0_05 ) is pointing to the ssv.dll in the old folder ( C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ ), which is no longer there..
    I can manually edit HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93}\InprocServer32 to stop pointing at C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll and point to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\ssv.dll thus java starts working as expected. Of course, "Sun Java Console" stiil shows pointing to npjpi160_05.dll.
    If I manually uninstall U3 and then manually install U5 from the same share that the policy uses, everything works as expected. "Sun Java Console" points to ssv.dll in C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\ and "Java Plug-in 1.6.0_05" is pointing to ssv.dll.
    I then tested the same thing scenario, this time use a MST transforms file which has the IEXPLORER=1 set. This did not resolve the issue.
    In short, I've discovered that if I uninstall U3 without upgrading to U5, the {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} key gets deleted. If I try to perfom and uninstall followed immediately by an install of U5 the {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} key doesn't get deleted and still points to the U3 info.
    I don't want to manually edit the registry as we'd always have to remember to update the script when we update the software so that it matches the correct version of Java.

    I have a similar post on this subject goto "gordon freeman" java 1.6.0_06 will not run in Vista.
    On my system there is a workaround if you open control panel/user accounts, then turn user account control on or off, untick user acccount control and restart the machine then goto website www.javatester.com to test if appelets run! I leave user account control on until I have to goto java website and then disable visit site and then renable this requires 2 restarts everytime I visit a java site. The problem is some sort of permissions issue created by either corruption of the registry by remnants of previous versions or configurations of previous versions it goint ot take me years to work it out. None of the turkeys at Sun have got any idea how to fix this I now am working with Microsoft in an effort to have this problem fixed!

  • Add-ons Manager Says Java Needs Update, But Latest Version Already Installed

    I have Java version SE7 U51 10.51.2.13 installed and working fine. Today I "upgraded" to FF 28.0. Now the Add-Ons Manager says Java is out-of-date, but when I go to the Java website, this is the very latest version available. I downloaded both the 32- and 64-bit versions anyway (though I had already installed them a month ago) and re-installed both. The FF Add-Ons Manager still has same warning: "Vulnerable- Update Now!" The Java Test page says I have the latest version, and it works.
    So what the heck to do?

    Never mind- found the answer. It's the same old silly runaround between Firefox and Oracle. The Firefox link send you to the wrong Java version (outdated) and you have to find the correct Oracle webpage that now has Java version 8 (actually v.1.8.0 plug in 11.0.2.132) and download and install THAT. It would be nice if this were simpler...

    But im able to run using IE, i really dont like IE and wish to stay with Firefox. Is it Firefox block it and is there anyway to unblock?

    Nope, Not working. Same error happens when i update my Java 6 Update 34 to Update 45. But yet still i cant launch Webex.
    But i try to install Java 7 into my computer, once Java 7 install, then able to launch Webex. Just wish to know is it block by Firefox?

  • Safari won't load Java applet? (latest Java 7 update 51)

    Hello,
    I am trying to use the following website:
    http://kidsnvue.com
    It is a portal that allows me to watch my child at daycare over the internet with a password.  The trouble is that the video works with Java 7.
    So every since I downloaded Java 7 update 51 (the latest update) then no matter how I configure my security settings I get the message "Application Blocked.  Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running".
    Even if I go into the security settings and try every different option like "Run in Unsafe Mode".  I still get blocked from running this website....  This wasn't a problem with the previous versions of Java 7...
    However Mavericks won't even let me run a previous version of Java.   When I try to do that I get the message that my Java is not up to date and it tells me to update it before loading anything in Java...
    Any advice on how I can get this website to run in Safari (or even in another browser)?
    Thanks!

    Do you have any other browsers available on the iBook? if so it might be possible to attempt running an OS update which would replace the file.
    The 'official' line is an archive & install, but armed with a 3rd party app it is possible to extract the file from your install disks and replace it manually - of course this does involve some messing in the System folder, but isn't all that difficult in my opinion.
    You probably can't copy the file from another mac, unless you have access to another one running 10.4
    Let us know how you'd like to proceed - I'm happy to give detailed instructions on replacing the file; it's not an uncommon problem that you have. I've posted several times before on this, so I'll try to find an earlier thread - at least that will give you an idea of what's involved.

  • Webstart no longer works after update from Java 7 Update 67 to Java 7 Update 71/72

    Hi,
    We have an application that is launched via Webstart.  Last year, we had to make a bunch of changes to the application in order to work with Java 7 Update 45.  It has been working fine up to and including Java 7 Update 67.  However, it is no failing with Java 7 Update 71 and 72.  Upon launch it is giving the error below. I have searched online and found other articles related to the AccessControlException but they are about 7 years old.  I also tried adding this to the java.policy file with no luck.  Any ideas or help would be appreciated to determine what I can do to get this to work for update 71.

    I have same problem on Sparc system (Solaris 10). Does anybody know how to fix it ? I can't change symbolic link for javaAre you certain that you are experiencing exactly the same issue? Did you follow the hyperlinks to the Sun Solve documents above?
    The Sun Solve document itself states:
    1. Solaris 8 and 9 and OpenSolaris and Solaris 10 on the SPARC platform are not impacted by this issue.I would suggest that you open a Support Call with your local solutions centre.

  • Mavericks (10.9.1) blocking Java 7 update 51

    I am trying to play the NY Times Java Acrostic.  Every couple of months I have to update Java in order to get the applet to load (I get a message that my Java is out of date). This time I updated to Java 7 update 51, installed it, verified that it is successfully installed. But every time I try to click on the Java Acrostic, I get an error message where the Acrostic normally is located reading "Error. Click for details." I click and get a box headed "Application Blocked. Click for detais" with a red stop sign icon (the first few times it was just a white "i" in t blue circle icon) that states "Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running." There are three buttons: Details, Ignore, Reload.  "Ignore" and "Reload" accomplish nothing. "Details" gets me a "Java Console" box which reads:
    Java Plug-in 10.51.2.13
    Using JRE version 1.7.0_51-b13 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM
    User home directory = /Users/sandina
    c:   clear console window
    f:   finalize objects on finalization queue
    g:   garbage collect
    h:   display this help message
    l:   dump classloader list
    m:   print memory usage
    o:   trigger logging
    q:   hide console
    r:   reload policy configuration
    s:   dump system and deployment properties
    t:   dump thread list
    v:   dump thread stack
    x:   clear classloader cache
    0-5: set trace level to <n>
    The menu bar in the Java Console reads "Java Applet---www.nytimes.com"
    The Times is stumped. I went to Safari Preferences (Security) and both the Times website and Java Applet are set to "Always Allow." Java Preferences' Security tab is set to "Medium" as several tech websites instruct (apparently this is a HUGE known issue with the latest updates to Mavericks and Java).  This did not happen until I updated Mavericks to 10.9.1.
    HELP!!! (Warning--I am NOT comfortable trying to write code and don't understand half the complicat

    I'm not an expert, but I've gotten around this problem in the following way.
    Go to the Java Control Panel
    Click on the Security Tab
    Look for the Exception Site List toward the bottom, and click "Edit Site List"
    I added these sites to the list. Not sure if all are needed, but I was able to do the acrostic afterwards.
    http://nytsyn.pzzl.com
    http://www.nytimes.com
    http://query.nytimes.com
    You may need to quit Safari and restart it.  Good luck.
