Java 6 update 3 changes

Hi,
I have been using my applet software now many years. It uses socket to connect server.
After I downloaded this new Java update 1.6.0_03-b05 my software stop to working.
Now I get errors to console:
App1:
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission xx.xx.xx.xx:443 connect,resolve)
App2:
SecurityException : access denied (java.net.SocketPermission xx.xx.xx.xx:443 connect,resolve)
So, what has happenned? Bug in update or bug in my code?
- Tom

here's the changelog, let's see if it copies over right...

Looks like it copies over right. Were you using a version of Java 6 prior to upgrading, or were you using a variant of 1.4 or 1.5? If your software has been working for many years, I doubt you were at version 6, in which case it's extremely likely that your code will break, and you'll need to sift through a great many changelogs to figure out how to get it working (or just rewrite the socket code anew).

Just wondering if I should update the latest Java software download and if so shoould I make any other changes on my old MBP?  I have downloaded all the Java updates.

mendel-  I have downloaded all Java updates.  However several times I was told by an expert in this forum to check something and open Java pref and do something else.  I did download it but my question was do I need to check or uncheck or do anything with Java Pref. I think the table is called.  Just checking so that not only the downloaded was installed but anything else that nees to be done was done.  this is why I ended up at this Security article which was way ovr my head.

In last 45 days or so, Bloomberg video no longer plays.
This is the result of a system or Java update - I do not recall which.  I've tried all the tips that Bloomberg has suggested to no avail... and they are no longer assisting me!  Please help, friends.  I've been a Macintosh user since 1986 (really!), please help, friends.

HELP, please! I've done all that you've suggested, and I'm still unable to view
Bloomberg videos. Can you help me? I 'think' it started with a recent Java
update on MAC OS, but I'm not totally sure.
LOG: 3/12/13 12:29:27 Bloomberg Feedback Team
    Hello,
We are sorry we are unable to assist you further with this query. We are not
experiencing this issue and are unable to duplicate at this time.
    Sincerely,
    Bloomberg Website Feedback Team

Do you use Glimmerblocker, or any other advert/content/security blocking/filtering software ?
Yes, I use Sophos.  But, recall that with another browser (Chrome), video plays fine.  So the issue is not with Sophos per se.
Safari-Preferences-Extensions is set to OFF ?
I just turned Safari-Preferences-Extensions to OFF.  Video will sill not play.
    Regarding;"
check System Preferences - Flash Player - Storage tab to see that 'allow sites to save information..." is on.
In the Advanced tab -  click 'delete all'  ?"
I did this, but, I an unable to delete all the Site Data; I get an error box:  "Flash Player was unable to delete all local storage. The files may be locked by another program. Close all browsers or restart your computer, and try again."
I get this error even with all the browsers are closed.
I think this points to our bug:  Only in my Mac OS user profile and only in Safari there seems to be some Flash Player file which is either 'open' or 'locked' to deleting.
Where could that pesky file be????

  • HT5493 Java update and reverting to 1.6 plug in.

    Good afternoon.
After installing the java update this week I've realised it makes my Macbook useless for work. I regularly rely on a Corporate Information System at my University to access student records. This system is incompatible with Java 7, upon installing the update it directs me to install the plug in from Oracle (for which only java 7 is available) When trying to access the system it comes up with the following error, "requires jinitiator 1.1.8.2 or higher" Which I assume is a change between Java 6 and 7.
Spent a long time with the Universities tech support who couldn't help only to confirm that Java 7 is not supported (and even directed me to several .exe windows programs to update jinitiator, as well as to some malware). Apple Tech suport had no solution to the problem either other than to time machine back to before the update.
I have now used time machine to restore to prior to the update (which took 48 hours for 300GB!!!!!)
So ideally I would like to install the update (for various reasons, including security) but still have access to University system.
Can anyone provide any advice how I can do so?
Alternatively I suppose I will have to avoid this update, but I assume it is forever going to remind me. If that is the case then is there a way to permanently tell my macbook to ignore this update?
    Any help greatfully received?
    Kind regards
    Josh

So ideally I would like to install the update (for various reasons, including security) but still have access to University system.
It doesn't sound like you can. If this is a web-based Java applet, there is no Java 6 applet plug-in anymore. Apple has removed it in this update, so you have no choice but to use Java 7 for web applets. If it is not a web applet, rolling back should work fine, but the system may be incompatible with the changes in the latest version of Java 6 as well. If you can't use the latest versions of Java, you will be forced to use a version of Java that is not only vulnerable to attack, but that the hackers of the world have now gotten a road map to (in the form of the update). Just because a vulnerability is patched does not mean that it stops being exploited... many vulnerabilities continue to be exploited for years, due to people who are unable or unwilling to install security updates.
Honestly, you shouldn't have to be forced to compromise the security of your system to use this software. You need to speak to people at your university at a higher level than just the techs, and explain to them how this system is compromising both university security and the individual security of every person who uses it. Scare them, and they'll light a fire under the techs to get this fixed.

  • Why am I getting errors for swupd_syncd of Product ID: "091-7360" (Java Update)

    The Software Update log has:
    Tue Oct 22 03:01:16 XXX swupd_syncd[4534] <Error>: *** Product ID: "091-7360"; file URL: "http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/35/57/091-7360/ise9pfxzzwi10qx4c2bygqf9llmcch6axd/JavaForMacOSX10.6.dst/091-7360.pt_PT.dist"[...]Tue Oct 22 03:01:17 XXX swupd_syncd[4534] <Info>: Finished downloading product: 091-7360Tue Oct 22 07:06:30 XXX swupd_syncd[15676] <Warning>: ignored invalid download request for product 091-7360, current state = PleaseMirror
There  was http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3127?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US -- similar symptions fixed by the 10.6.3 update, but by now I'm at 10.6.8.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you, but at least we can comiserate about the problem. I have 3 different 10.6 SUS installations that are having this problem. I've been trying to directly manipulate the downloaded files, settings, etc. I'm seeing that the downloaded files here:
    /var/db/swupd/html/content/downloads/35/57/091-7360/
do not have any of the ".dst" distribution files for the various languages that should be there. I believe that must be the "incomplete download" part, but I've even copied those files from a 10.5 SUS download (all of the 10.5 SUS engines work w/ this Java update, BTW), still to no avail.
I've also tried manipulating the list of updates in the .plist here:
    /etc/swupd/com.apple.server.swupdate.plist
by changing the flags for 091-7360 to "Mirrored" instead of "PleaseMirror", changing Enabled to "true", and things like that. I still cannot get SUS to be happy w/ this update. I think that if I had a better understanding of how all of these files tie together (you've got lists of updates in /etc/swupd, but also multiple catalog files in /var/db/swupd/html), I might be able to fool the thing into working. Alas, it appears to be beyond me, and I may have to just wait until another Java update for 10.6 is issued to be able to use SUS for it again.
Any further observations you may have would be quite welcome. Maybe we can put our heads together and figure this out.
    Thx,
    Fred

  • Problem running Java applets since Java update 2 (1.6.0_20)

    Hi,
Since I upgraded to Java update 2, Java applets started having problems. The most noticeable ones are:
Non-modal windows appear behing the browser Window (tested Safari 4, 5, Chrome 5).
Double buffering not working as usual (slower, white boxes appear when dragging a window, etc.)
    Slower rendering in general
The same applications run perfectly using Java Web Start. And they used to work very well also in Java update 1.
The application can be tested here (press ok if a login prompt appears):
    Java applet: http://jmap3.k2geospatial.com/montreal_applet/
    Java Web Start: http://jmap3.k2geospatial.com/montreal_jws/dockingClient.jnlp
Our applications running in applets use the new plug-in 2 with JNLP files.
Notice the Java startup splash (the animated sun-like logo) is not moving as smoothly as usual. It is very jerky now.
Are these problems known by anyone?
How can I downgrade Java to previous version?
sorry I cross-posted this in Unix forum also. I think it is better here.
    Thank you,
    Jean-Robert
    K2 Geospatial

Since the last Java update on mac, all my OpenGL applets stop working and now just shows a white screen on Chrome, Firefox and Opera. They was working well on all browsers (Safari/WebKit,Chrome,Firefox,Opera) just before the update.
The trouble maker seem to be the java plugin 2 and the new offscreen rendering pipeline, as reported by jrhaddad with the disucssion linked to the different Java/OpenGL community forums.
This is a huge regression for me, and I think for all hobbies/ independent developers and all companies who are doing some Java/OpenGL develoment. All our work just stop working since this update.
If would really want to know from Apple if they are working on this problem and/or how this can be solved.
Should this be fixed by Apple with a new java update, or should the various browsers must upgrade their applet support plugins according to the new java plugin 2 changes ?
    Best Regards,
    Jérôme

  • Apple Java update - to old for Sun?

I guess my old login is not working anymore. That's funny but it is not the case.
Well I have installed all Java updates and I cannot get it working right :]
I use Java test site to check if it works and what I get with J2SE 5.0 is following information:
"You are using an older version of Java technology. You can download the lastest version form Java.com
    Your Java configuration is:
    Apple Computer, Inc.
    1.5.0_07
    Mac OS X
    10.4.8"
When I change settings to J2SE 1.4.2 I cannot even get this test running.
I need Java to use ma online banking. Without it I cannot sign any transaction what means that it is useless for me now.
I was trying Java with Safari, Camino, Firefox, Opera.
Camino was always the best browser for my online banking but it doesn't work with all those updates we have currently.
Anyone has an idea what should I do now?
I know over 100 people community which whould be happy to have this problem solved as well. So please help me to figer it out.
    Few iMacs (G4 & G5), PMs (G4)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately many sites which use Java also corrupt it with ActiveX plugins that are not Mac OS X compatible and are barely compatible with PCs to begin with. If they did use pure Sun Java, then it would work with the Mac just fine.
And if they are using ActiveX, that's not secure, as it relies on Windows based technology. Sounds like you are getting that error in error and these sites simply don't know what to do about the lack of ActiveX. I would write their administrators and tell them to use true Sun Java.
A tell tale sign of using Windows technologies for serving webpages is .asp or .aspx page names, though that might be masked by something else.

  • Java Update in 1.4.2?

I just downloaded and installed the jdk1.4.2 release. I read the chat transcript regarding this release, which described a new Java Update mechanism, but I can't find any such thing. I did a search here and came up with a link to some beta testing page which contains:
    vcf/resumes/include/advancedsearchform.jsp
This page contains a screenshot of the java control panel, with an "Update" tab -- but I don't have this tab in my control panel. Furthermore, there is no mention of Java Update in the "changes" page of the release documentation. The "Chat Update" link from the chat transcript goes to this changes page, but contains a non-existent page anchor:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/changes.html#startuptime
All of this leads me to ask. Has Java Update been pulled from 1.4.2?

just came across this, you might be interested, it also backs up what i said.

  • BT Netprotect/McAfee Java update causing repeated ...

This morning McAfee downloaded a Java update. Since then, almost every webpage or like I open triggers a notification asking "Do I want the following programme to make changes to my computer?". The programme it refers to is Java. I could change my control settings to not notify me but this would be changing the setting down from the level I've always had it at (the recomended level) to a not recomended level which I really don't want to do.
Has anyone else been having this issue?  Does anyone have a suggestion to stop the repeated notifications?
    Thank you in advance

The first thing I would do is to get rid of McAfee!! First search for "How to remove McAfee" and follow the instructions. It can be a PITA to remove from your computer. Then get a decent AV program that will not cripple your PC. There are a good few free Internet Security suites such as AVG or Comodo that work just as well or better than McAfee and don't soak up resources in the same way.

  • HT5493 Java update and reverting to 1.6

    Josh

Sounds like we are at the same University!
My solution has been to use a virtual Windows machine to access the application under Parallels. A bit like cracking nuts with a sledgehammer, I know, but it works.

  • Question about the new JAVA Update J2SE 5.0 Release 3

Here is some info about this update:
Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 3 allows applications and applets developed for the J2SE 5.0 platform to run on Mac OS X v 10.4.2 and later.
This update does NOT CHANGE the DEFAULT VERSION of Java on your Mac from Java 1.4.2 to J2SE 5.0, though Java applications that require J2SE 5.0 may specifically request it. You can change the preferred Java version for applications and applets by using the new Java Preferences utility. This utility is installed by the J2SE 5.0 update at /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302412
    HERE IS MY QUESTION---
This update makes me nervous cause I don't know much about Java. IF I change my default version to this new 5.0 will it mean that some of the older Java stuff on the web won't work? Should I just download this and ignore it? What should I do about this update?
    Thanks for the help!
    Renée

I too seem to be suffering issues with loading web pages after the 10.4.3/Java 5.0 update. I have reinstalled both updates, changed the java settings, emptied all the caches, and tried various combinations thereof, and I still have problems with web pages loaded. most of the problems appear to be related to rendering frames and images - In fact a couple of web sites I navigate to (upon looking at the source for the page" state "It appears your browser does not support frames." I think this is something broken in the latest release. Unfortunately, I cannot reinstall the latest copy of Safari, because the installer states "This version of Safari cannot be installed. It requires version 10.4.2." I guess I am in a pickle until Apple comes out with another update. BTW I have some pages that Safari will not render but IE running on the same box will. I also noticed that the problem propagated to other applications that use Java....For instance the Dashboard widget from google (Google Maps) no longer renders the tiled (framed?) map pieces...instead you get the ubiquitous "?" icon.

  • Help please need to install java update 3

Just updated to java update 4. I have medical software on the computer and it breaks. I need to roll back one version. Can anyone help me out with this? 10.6.6 OS

OK, there is a method, but it is risky at best. Backup your data before proceeding*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Note where it says on these instructions rm -rf:
    http://weblogs.java.net/blog/joshy/archive/2007/11/howto_removej.html
Change that "f" instruction to i (the letter I as in I am).
    So you would say:
sudo rm -ri /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/(whatever the version is that is newer)
If you are unsure of the version, look it up first by typing:
    ls -aF /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/
And determine which ones are newer.
Answer 'n' to the rm once files are listed that you don't want. Careful not to go trigger happy with the 'y' as it automatically takes every 'y' response as an affirmative.

  • New Java Update - Necessary?

With the latest Java Update that shows up on Software Updater, there's no mention of whether it's "recommended for all users" or not. It just says: "This update does not replace the existing installation of J2SE 5.0 or change the default version of Java." I know nothing about Java; I just do mundane surfing. Should I install this update?

    Hi bookmanjb
This update is not critical for web surfing. It is mainly for programs that require Java 6. I wouldn't bother downloading and installing it unless I came across a program that needs it.
    Hope this helps

  • Java update 2012-006 did not remove Java plugin from any browser

I successfully installed Java update 2012-006 via Software Update on my iMac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 (German) and it updated the Java runtime to version 1.6.0_37 and removed the Java Preferences application as expected, but it did not remove the Java plugin from any browser!
Safari and Firefox can still use the Java plugin as before.
I repaired permissions, rebooted, manually downloaded Java update 2012-006 and successfully installed it again without any change to the Java plugin: it is still present on my system and fully functional from any browser!
The web is full with messages from users missing the Java plugin after installing this update - but I could not find anything about the plugin not being removed!
Is anyone experiencing the same behaviour under Lion? I thought this would happen only under Snow Leopard...
What should I do now? Can I really trust this "successfull installation" of Java update 2012-006 on my system?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Thanks - I will keep the symlink in place and I won't touch the Deploy bundle, because I need the plugin in Safari and I don't need Oracle's Java 7 for now...
If the plugin is supposed to stay in the Deploy bundle, this could help others who miss the plugin - they could just recreate the symlink, right?
To summarize I think we can state, that the Java update 2012-006 for Lion and Mountain Lion sometimes leaves the symlink in /Library/Internet Plugins/ untouched.
The circumstances that lead to this behaviour are still unknown.
The install log in Console shows that the scripts to create links and to delete obsolete files ran okay, but there was an error with the "postinstall" script. In spite of this the installation succeeded:

    Oct 20 16:25:56 michaels-imac Installer[284]: Displaying 'Install Succeeded' UI.
Does anybody know what "com.apple.mrt.uiagent" and "com.apple.mrt" stands for?
Obviously the "postinstall" script provides an invalid argument (at least on my system).
I have no idea if this is related to the Java Plugin symlink not being removed...

  • Latest JAVA update breaks numerous web page services - how do I uninstall?

Since applying the most recent JAVA update, Java server pages that use dropdown menus that worked in the past no longer stay dropped down. On the click down action, the menu appears briefly then disappears so it is now impossible to use these critical menus.
Clearly something is defective in this update. How do I uninstall it?
    Thanks,
