Java and Resin Configuration

Hi,
I'm trying to load Resin and Java onto my MacBook and am having major issues. I am very new to this kind of stuff, so I need very basic information, and everything I'm finding on the web I do not understand. So, I came here, and would very much appreciate any help anyone can give me.
So...here's my problem. I downloaded Resin and Java, but I cannot seem to figure out how to configure them. I am supposed to set JAVA_HOME and RESIN_HOME(I think) (and maybe Classpath, but I don't know if that's just Windows or not), but I cannot figure out how to do this. Can anyone help me? (And remember, if so, I need very basic instructions!)
Thanks!
Amanda

Bump.
Please, if anyone can tell me anything...
It's for a school assignment so I have to do this. I'm supposed to be using serverlets for the assignment, but I can't even get the first step of installing the software correctly done.
Thank you.

  • Java and XML Configuration Files

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me the best way to read information stored in an XML configuration file into my Java program? I have a factory class which I want to instantiate classes from at runtime and I want to be able to read in the class names from a XML configuration file to make it extensible..
    Many thanks....

    Depends on what the OP means by XML configuration files.
    Spring reads Spring application context files. Those can help to configure objects, no doubt.
    If the OP meant reading in XML serializations of Java objects and turning them back into Java objects, then XStream is the right thing to do.

  • ESS/MSS sso configure between java and abap instance

    Dear Gurus,
    I want to configure sso between java and abap instance for ESS/MSS. I couldnt find any guide for it, could you please help me gurus ?
    Other question is, is there any specific role for ESS/MSS users in JAVA instance. I want to create users and assign this role to them.

    Hi Kemal,
    Hope you are doing good.
    There should be a / in the ITS path before SAP.
    Basically the entry that you have mentioned here should be accessible via browser as well. For eg in your case:
    http://<its hist name>/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui should be accessible over browser.
    I also think you have put in a extra space in "w  ebgui". It should be "webgui".
    If the connector settings are working, then we can be sure that system connection is fine. You do not need to configure ITS settings.
    Also for SSO, refer the SAP note:1083421 and configure the SS0 settings again.
    Please run the SSO2 wizard and then make the automatic connection to
    the abap server. This will solve any inconsistencies on the server
    due to manual interventions.
    Most likely reason for the error is that certificates were loaded
    manually rather than using SSO wizard.

  • How to configure the connection between AS JAVA and AS ABAP

    Hello,
    I have installed a SAP Netweaver 7.3 AS JAVA and I would like to connect this JAVA Instance with 3 ABAP Systems (ECC 6.0) .
    On help.sap.com I have found the following instructions: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/3b/0c4b428f96ab53e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
    Could you please advise, if the above configuration steps are OK?
    Or could you please help me with the exact procedure?
    Thank you in advance!
    Noemi

    Noemi,
    I'm not sure how exactly you want to use ABAP and Java so it is hard to answer your question.
    The link that you posted describes the steps to configure ABAP as a Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) service provider. As a service provider, the AS ABAP enables you to off-load the authentication of users onto an identity provider. The identity provider enables you to federate identities across domains for Single Sign-On (SSO).
    Check the following wiki page for a good overview of all the ways that you could connect to ABAP

    Hi Everybody,
    I am using the following versions of java and tomcat:
    JAVA: j2sdk-1_4_2_13
    Tomcat: jakarta-tomcat-5.0.5
    I tried to configure several times both but everytime the result is the same. I am setting the following variables:

    CLASSPATH: .;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_13\lib;D:\Tomcat 5.0\common\lib\servlet-api.jar
    JAVA_HOME: D:\j2sdk1.4.2_13
    Please correct what mistake i am doing again and again. I appreciate your effort.
    Thanks in advance.
    Himanshu

    Fine sir, I will tell evrything in detail what steps i am following during installation and configuring java and Tomcat.
    1) I am using the following versions(exe) of java and tomcat:
    JAVA: j2sdk-1_4_2_13-windows-i586-p
    Tomcat: jakarta-tomcat-5.0.5
    2) Then, i follow exactly the same variable names and values to configure java as mentioned below to make java work under User variables header:
    PATH: .;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_13\bin
    CLASSPATH: .;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_13\lib
    JAVA_HOME: D:\j2sdk1.4.2_13
    Above steps i follow only for installing java. And it also not working properly. If i run my .java file from the destination of the file then it will be execulted but if i try to execute from any other location then it doesn't, it shows the following message in the DOS prompt:
    error: cannot read: Hello.java
    1 error
    Now, please correct what mistake i am doing.
    Thanks

  • Netweaver Data base instances for Java and ABAP

    Hello Experts,
    Please help me to understand how the two technology stacks of SAP WAS (Java and ABAP) are configured to use underline data base in Netweaver.
    Is it manadatory to have two separate data base schemas, one for ABAP applications and other for Java applications in the Netweaver?
    If yes..the any idea about what are those schema differences??
    - Rajan

    Hello Krishna,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Is there any way I can access these shemas? Are they the same by structure or there are major differences?
    My requirement is to build a common schema out of these two and have the data from these two schemas to be consolidated in the new schema.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Communicate link between Java and ABAP Stack for https

    I have configured https in both the java and abap stacks (we have a double stack configuration).  Due to our future configuration I have changed the hostnames to fully qualified hostnames per SAP instructions.
    The question I have is does anyone know what RFC destinations or JCo settings I need to change to make https complete?
    I have the problem where when I fire off the Integration Builder from within the ABAP stack (SXMB_IFR) I get a straight hostname (no domain name).  Where is this configured?  Any help is appreciated..

    Check the exchange profile (Administratio tab in /rep/start/index.jsp page; you will have to enter it manually since it is throwing error from SXMB_IFR).
    Regards,
    Henrique.

    It is a must. Period.
    OK, let's tone down: it is a must for any job related to software production. Not only development.That begsl the question, What does it mean to "know" one of these systems? I would expect Product Management, Documentation, QA, and Support staff to be conversant with the fundamentals of such a tool--check in, check out, version/revision numbers--but not much more than that. Developers, on the other hand, I would generally expect "know" the system with a much higher level of expertise--query language, branching, merging, and so on.

    Hi,
    Jco conn from ABAP to Java
    =====================
    You can use the JCO RFC Provider Service of the Web Application Server for your ABAP to Java calls.
    The steps involved in that are
    1. Configure destination in SM59 in SAP.
    2. Create RFC Destination in Visual Admin.
    3. Create a stateless session bean with JNDI name as the name of calling function module in SAP.
    4. Add a business method public void processFunction(JCO.Funtion fn) which is called by the JCO RFC Provider Service. The name should be 'processFunction'.
    5. Set library references in application-j2ee-engine.xml to type weak for the following
    a. com.sap.mw.jco.
    b. com.sap.tc.Logging (if you are using the logging api )
    Here is the sample code for the EJB biz method
    Business Method.
    public void processFunction(JCO.Function function) {
    try {
    // Get the import parameters for the function module
    JCO.ParameterList importList = function.getImportParameterList();
    logger.infoT("The value sent is" +
    (String)importList.getValue("USER_NAME"));
    // Set the export parameter value for the function module
    JCO.ParameterList export = function.getExportParameterList();
    export.setValue("From EJB", "RETURN");
    function.setExportParameterList(export);
    catch (java.lang.Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();

  • Java and PDA's

    Hi everybody,
    I'm thinking about purchasing a PDA and would like to develop my own apps for it with Java. What are the requirements are for running Java on any PDA? What OS's support Java? How do I get Java onto a PDA? Which PDA's support Java?
    As you can see, I've got lots of questions. Any comments/recomendations would be great!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    short:
    there are basically 2 versions of java for pda's, personal java and micro java (J2ME).
    The latter seems to grow in popularity since it is configurable for different targeted devices, depending on their capabilities (Memory, Connectivity etc.), and is beeing deployed on a lot of devices, especially smartphones -eg. Motorola Accompli 008, Siemens SL45i etc... - but also the on Palm OS Devices, wireless (Treo) or not (5xx, V..).
    If you're gonna use Java on wireless Handhelds or SmartPhones, go for J2ME.
    If you need rich GUI's, Sound, Image processing or other advanced features, go for Personal Java if it can't be done with J2ME.
    To get familiar with both "Versions":
    Personal Java: http://www.sun.com/software/communitysource/personaljava/
    J2ME: http://java.sun.com/j2me/index.html

    HI,
    I think SAP recommend using J2SDK1.4.2_15. Since this windows, have your java env as >> Drive:\j2sdk1.4.2_15...
    Try if this is gonna work.

    Hi Marco
    well yes it was very strange ... but it is now installed.
    I think I'd better put a question into the main NW forum.
    Happily I have someone here who is a genius and found out what was happening ...
    1) the port 50000 wasnt useable, wasnt even in the log, but 50001 for https worked, so https:/localhost:50001 worked but http didnt;
    2) a parameter "handlePromotionFailure" was used but not understood so the VM couldnt start
    3) on top of that, being a huge concern, we have host names longer than the sap limit of 13 characters.
    I have tried to assign you 6 points I hope it worked.
    With kind regards

    We had similar errors occuring when multiple threads tried to login to our server at the same time. As it turns out, the com.sun.security.auth.login.ConfigFile class is not thread-safe. That is, if two threads try to login at the same time, we got this error.
    Try setting the login.configuration.provider in your security.properties to your own-thread safe class and see if it helps. It did for us.
