    I know what you mean about quality control. However, you may want to try two things before you return it:
    1. Rub around the dead pixel. Google this method and you'll find more details. Sometimes the pixels can be restored to life.
    2. Put a small piece, or layered pieces, of electrical tape in the battery slot to fill in the gap. I've often done this with my apple laptops and it works perfectly. Once, when I was at the genius bar, the genius commented " Oh, good that you put the tape there and not over here like a lot of people do..." indicating that this is very common.
    Should you have to? No, of course not! But if your computer is otherwise good, I would definitely try these potential solutions.
    I'm afraid this is what quality control has come to. It's the same throughout the electronics industry and apple is no exception. The only company I've never had an issue with is Sony, but maybe I've just been lucky?

  • Welcome to this forum on "Core J2EE Patterns" by the Sun Java Center

    Welcome to this forum on Core J2EE Patterns by the Sun Java Center!
    CONTEXT:
    This forum is intended for discussing the patterns from the Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog and other topics discussed in our book, Core J2EE Patterns.
    We, the authors of the book, welcome you to this forum.
    WHO WE ARE:
    We are Enterprise Java Architects from the Sun Java Center (SJC), which is the Java consulting organization of Sun Microsystems. We are a world-wide group of architects focusing on all consulting related to Java technologies.
    Visit our web-site for more information on SJC:
    http://www.sun.com/service/sunps/jdc/index.html
    BACKGROUND:
    Over the last few years, we at SJC have worked with our customers in architecting, designing, and implementing solutions on the J2EE platform. We have worked on documenting the J2EE patterns for over two years and released the patterns for public review in Beta form via the Java Developer Connection in May, 2001.
    The beta version of the patterns is available online as The Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog at:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/patterns/
    Subsequent to the release, we received great feedback and comments from hundreds of reviewers. We then worked towards incorporating the feedback into the pattern documentation. One of the common comments was about the lack of code examples in the online documentation. The latest pattern documentation provides many code examples and incorporates all the feedback received so far.
    BOOK INFORMATION:
    Core J2EE Patterns, the book, was released at JavaOne 2001 during June 4-9, and will be available in stores around the end of June 2001.
    The book includes the complete updated Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog with 15 patterns covering these J2EE technologies: Java Server Pages (JSP), Servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), and Java Message Service (JMS). In addition to the J2EE Pattern Catalog, the book also provides other chapters that discuss design considerations,
    bad practices, and J2EE Refactorings. Example code is included for all patterns and strategies.
    If you wish to view the complete table of contents or order the book, please visit one of the following online bookstores:

    COMMUNITY:
    The online community for discussing the patterns included in our book Core J2EE Patterns has grown over the past year, since our first presentation at JavaOne 2000. This community is supported by our LISTSERV and is available for public participation at:

    You can view the past discussions on this list at the above URL.
    FORUM LOGISTICS:
    John and Dan are on the east coast and Deepak is on the west coast. We will be tuned into the forum and answering the messages periodically between June 19 and June 25, 2001. If you want to discuss the J2EE Patterns after June 25, you are invited to join the aforementioned J2EE Patterns Interest list.
    FORUM DISCLAIMER:

    ---Authors of Core J2EE Patterns

    Rajakannan,
    There are numerous ways to implement a templating mechanism in support of the composite view pattern, included in the catalog as a presentation-tier pattern.
    The goal is to avoid simply having monolithic views with all the formatting code embedded directly withing the view. If we have common subviews that are shared across several or more views then we end up with a copy-and-paste type of reuse...undesirable. So, modularity is one issue. Another major force when considering the Composite View pattern is that we may want to manage the layout of our pages and the content of our pages separately. We may have some logical regions defined, such as a search panel and main body, and a subview that plugs into those logical regions that map to a physical page (ie: x.jsp and y.jsp). We may then want to vary one independent of the other...ie: we may want to modify the layout of the page w/o changing the content and we may want to vary the content w/o touching the layout.
    There are a number of implementation strategies that can be used to implement the Composite View pattern, ranging from relatively simple to much more sophisticated. We describe each in our book and include source code examples.
    The example in the book that allows for supporting all the issues described above is implemented using the "Custom Tag View Management Strategy" and uses a tag library written by David Geary, that supports the Composite View pattern. The library is also included in David's new book, Adv. JavaServer Pages, Prentice Hall, 2001.
    Again, it's simply one implementation and, as you mention, there are many different ways to implement this strategy.
    Thanks for your question,
    Dan

  • Architect certification for beginners

    Hi Guys,
    I want to have a proper TCP(technical career path) for next 5 years. I have experience of 5 years in Java and oracle technologies. Now I am looking for a promising career path- in architect field. I am new to this area. I have done all technical kind of work till date. Now moving to next level will require a lot of study and effort, but I want to put my efforts on a proper certification.
    Could you please suggest me few certifications for beginner in technical architect field?
    Thanks,
    Jas

    Hi, welcome to the forum!
    There is one Java Architect certification, but it is not a beginner level certification:
    It is the Oracle Certified Master, Java EE 5 Enterprise Architect certification: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:JEE5EA
    One idea is to study and take the Java EE Developer certifications first, get enough experience and then later go to the Java EE Architect certification, or go straight to it. The latter approach will take more time, but may be more related to what you want.

  • Java future in Netweaver

    what is the future for Java Developer within SAP Netweaver framework? How much Java is used, which modules (EP and XI...)?
    Edited by: anthony karta on Jan 11, 2008 11:04 AM

    Hi Amol Joshi/ Anil ,
                           I'm a sun certified Java Architect. I'm working in the J2ee/java core for last 10 years. I want to shift my career in the SAP Netweaver Platform.
    I got trained in SAP PI and taking classes online  SAP PI 7.0/ xi 3.0 right  now.  Good in J2ee and so more confident on Ejbs, Servlets, MVC, jsps and OOs etc. Also worked in Jboss and Weblogic for quite long time. Currently doing Web Services projects using open standards such as Apache Axis for last 2 years. Decent level Experience in SOAs, ESBs, XML, XSD and more.
    SAP PI:
    I have practiced ALE configurations, IDOC, RFC, SOAP, FILE, JMS, JDBC by myself. Good in Java Mapping.
    SAP Netweaver App Server: Java application in Netweaver App Server
    Downloaded trial version and practiced with NWDS by developing small applications using J2ee components such as jsps/controllers, Ejbs and DAOs for about 3 months. i'm comfortable on this.
    I would like to get  your suggestions for switching my career into SAP technical field. Please provide your suggestion in steps. I think you guys are the right person to tell about market situations and pros and cons of this.
    Having little knowledge in ABAP and SAP BASIS too.

  • Web Banner Image Fade

    I'm an experienced Java Architect with no experience of JavaFX. I'm trying to develop a proof of concept Flash-style web banner to see if it is feasible to replace existing Flash elements on my client's site with JavaFX elements, thus removing the need for a costly proprietary RIA toolkit.
    Now the banner in question takes a physical URL from an XML document, loads a set number (also configured in a simple XML document) of images horizontally across the banner. It fades each image out independently and once invisible, it replaces that image with another random image from the URL and fades back in (ensuring it doesn't already exist in the other visible images). Whilst doing this, a quote is displayed across the images in a colour set by the XML file, and this quote fades in and out as well, changing to another quote from a set list, and fading back in once the new quote is found.
    Now I'm sure I can figure out some of the more typical functionality that I come across with Java, C++, etc. on a daily basis, such as interacting with an XML document, and loading images from URLs (perhaps), but the actual timing, fading, working loading new images and quotes at the right time, etc. is all new as I tend to develop business systems and not applications with visual effects. So help is needed on how to best go about doing this. I've begun with a very basic attempt at a Stage and tips on going forward would be appreciated.
    Also, as a side note, in JavaFX how would I extend the Stage and Scenes, and any other object, essentially, and then load them as variables...? remember I'm an OO-oriented Java and C++ programmer, so I understand inheritance, but cannot seem to find the right syntax in JavaFX after an hour working on this basic Flash-eliminating challenge.
    My code is below:
    package ribbon;
    import javafx.animation.Interpolator;
    import javafx.animation.KeyFrame;
    import javafx.animation.Timeline;
    import javafx.scene.paint.Color;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.shape.Rectangle;
    import javafx.scene.text.Font;
    import javafx.scene.text.Text;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    //capture the dynamic width and height of the scene
    var width: Number = bind scene.width;
    var height: Number = bind scene.height;
    var quote: Text = Text {
        font: Font {
            size: 16
        x: 10,
        y: 30,
        fill: Color.RED
        opacity: bind angle
        content: "Interesting quote goes here..."
    var scene: Scene = Scene {
        fill: Color.BLACK
        content: [
            Rectangle {
                x: 0,
                y: bind height - 30
                width: bind width,
                height: 25
                arcHeight: 5
                arcWidth: 5
                fill: Color.BLACK
                opacity: 0.5
            quote,
    var angleStart = 1.0;
    var angle = angleStart;
    var fade = Timeline {
        keyFrames: [
            KeyFrame {
                time: 0s
                values: angle => angleStart tween Interpolator.LINEAR
            KeyFrame {
                time: 3s
                values: angle => 0.2 tween Interpolator.LINEAR
        autoReverse: true
        repeatCount: 1000
    var stage = Stage {
        title: "Photo Ribbon"
        width: 680
        height: 100
        scene: scene
    fade.play();
    stage;Thanks in advance.

    If the banner image is not displaying, it is either not in an acceptable web file format (optimized for web as jpg, gif or png). Or it is corrupted.  Or the path to the image file on server is broken.
    It's impossible to say more without a link to your problem page.

  • Distributed transactions and 2-phase commit in a SAP Netweaver environment

    Hello,
    I am a Java architect., I don't know very much the SAP technologies. I tried to found on forums or technical papers if SAP does support distributed transactions and two-phase commit, it's not clear. I found something on SAP WAS but my project is using a  SAP PI 7.0 and I cannot find anything on the subject.
    My goal is to include a SAP server (via PI 7.0) in a distributed transaction handled by a J2EE ESB (Oracle, ex-BEA Aqualogic) based on XA capabilities.
    Does anyone have experience or feedback on this topic ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Do you know this white paper ?

  • JNI Versus MQ Series

    For one of our projects I am given a task of integrating with EJB for data access from a C++ client. Since I couldnt use corba i have two options available JNI / IBM MQ. Since I am new to the Java world I hoping you gurus could solve my dilemma with JNI and MQ.
    Has anyone used JNI for accessing beans for data access. there will be atleast 10000 calls made per hour and the amount of data is not that big. What would a Java Architect do given the oppurtunity of using MQ versus JNI.
    I heard anecdotes saying JNI is complex and JVM will take time to load and so on.. My initial code for access a java class is "manageable" and I load JVM once in the beginning. I wondering which is faster and reliable.
    Any comments much appreciated..

    You said:
    So in my c++ class I load the JVM once in the beginning, load a java proxy class that will pre
    load classes and execute methods for the C++ server. Clients requesting data will tell me which >>class to ask for and I execute methods on that class. The data is returned to me as an xml
    string. Please explain "clients". Who are your clients? Is there such a C++ code already in place??? And some existing client? Who accesses your C++ code, and how?
    Also, please explain C++ server. In what sense is it a server?
    If there is none at the moment, I think you are making things a bit too complex.
    If your clients are instances of servlet (JSP) invokation:
    There is at least one JVM in which all servlets run.
    In one of your Beans, or servlets, you declare native methods to do the data fetching stuff.
    You also have instances of classes that do the XML generation.
    If you first need to call the native methods which will do the data fetch for you, and return data to your Java side code as a string, array or of strings, vector of strings or in some data structure.
    (RecordSet???)
    And then on this data, you use one of your "XML generating class" object to generate XML.
    Return this XML data to your clients, which I guess would be other Servlets or JSPs.
    Once you have the basic structure in place, people here can help you with deeper problems like threads, performance etc.
    Since each servlet/ JSP runs in a different thread, you can make your calls to native code thread safe my keeping most of your stuff in the native function scope. Global variable should be placed in critical sections.
    I hope I made some sense.
    Please update me with whatever advances you make. I intend to learn a lot from these forums.
    cheers

  • Clarification Request on New Solaris Cert Exam Requirements.

    Regarding:
    Important Changes to Java, and Oracle Solaris Certifications
    Beginning August 1, 2011, Java Architect, Java Developer, Solaris System Administrator and Solaris Security Administrator certification path requirements will include a new mandatory course attendance requirement.
    Candidates may earn their certifications using the current track requirements found on the Oracle Certification website through July 31, 2011 .....References:
    1) http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=449
    2) SCSA/OSSA 10 OCP Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator : http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=328
    3) SCSEA/OSSESA 10 OCE Oracle Certified Expert, Oracle Solaris 10 Security Administrator : http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=330
    Reference (1) seems to indicate candidates wishing to obtain both OSSA and OSSESA would need to attend two classes, one for each.
    - Or is it that a someone already SCSA/OSSA would not have to attend a further classs for OSSESA (As would be the case for DBA 10 OCP/RAC 10 OCE).
    - If two classes are required, and a candidate has attended System Administration for the Solaris 10 OS Part 2 which is a common pre-req for both exams, would that single class be sufficient for both exams.
    From my point of view, and I suspect a lot of other are in my situation, having an existing SCSA 10.
    .... Does this mean that post July 31 2001 if it was desired to gain the OSSESA 10 OCE would a course then be needed to be attended after that date?
    .... Looking forward to Solaris 11; does this mean existing existing OSSA/SCSA 10 holder will need to attend a course for the upgrade for what I assume will be Solaris 11 certifications at some point.

    IMHO Certification Forum Moderator's response time is entirely reasonable and expected. She normally visits two or three times a week (has a day job as well!) and I posted this on Friday just after she had done a forum visit to clean up some inappropriated postings. IMHO She normally takes good time to check facts so she can answer with some authority (though a IMHO forum post can never really be totally authorative and contracturally bnding, it is best effort to be helpful). And I would not expect her to work the weekend .... it is important that people other than DBA's and Sysadmins have a life!
    but it is true that you need to attend the required course separately for each certification, sometime this sounds crazy to me, where courses are very costly and it is mandatory to have them before you can write the exam.. Course are good specially for those who does not believe on self-study and specially who has got enough money to throw on.. sometime I do not find doing course was worth paying.. Course also depends on the Instructor, if he is good, you can benefit most but if he is not good then you feel lost money.I am assuming you response in this section is in terms of a question rather that an having an authorative source such as the link I gave earlier. While the webpage pubished earlier would seem authorative IMHO is is possilbe it is incomplete or contains an ambiguity or error (bigdelboy is suspicious and solaris can slow due to people who shout at their computers http://blogs.sun.com/brendan/entry/unusual_disk_latency perhaps causing the correct information some time to arrive).
    Also it is worth remembering Oracle University have for a lot of courses a +satisifation guarentee' to retake the course if you were not satisfied (you still have to spend resource yourself reattending).  (NB: WDP doesn't have this).

  • Automate MySQL database dump

    Hello All,
    I am fairly new to Unix administration,OS X in particular. I am in need of opinions for the easiest wasy to automate a command to dump a MySQL database on a rotating weekly basis. I only want 7 days worth of dumps to reside there. I have been doing it manually with the following command (I have replaced sensitive information in quotes).
    /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqldump --user="username" --password="password" --opt "database" | gzip --best > /Volumes/MySQLDB_Dump/rgps_db_dump112906.mysql.gz
    The only part that would need to be scripted would be the date, so I think the following script would work...
    #!/bin/bash
    # RGPS MySQL backup script
    # MySQL Database Backup
    DATE=`date +%Y.%m.%u` # Year, Month, Day of Week
    echo "Performing MySQL Database and system Backup. "
    echo ""
    echo "Dumping MySQL database to /Volumes/MySQLDB_Dump/rgps_db_dump$DATE.mysql.gz"
    /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqldump --user="username" --password="password" --opt "database" | gzip --best > /Volumes/MySQLDB_Dump/rgps_db_dump$DATE.mysql.gz
    echo ""
    I am just not sure if automator or cron (I assume this is in OS X since it is BSD) would be best to keep a rotating cycle. IF anyone knows if MySQL has its own utitlity to do this that would be great. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks again.

    Julie,
    I may be out of place here but I don't think MySQL will make a good
    adatabase for Portal Server. Native MySQL is designed for
    non-transactional work. Yes MySQL now have transactions, but with the
    JDBC Isolation Levels, I have heard of people having problems with this
    functionality.
    I Suggest if you stay with open source Databases that Postgresql may be
    a better fit, as it's structure is more like Oracles except for
    translations fr varchar2 and Number formats.

  • EJB implementation

    Hi,
    I am calling an EJB from a normal java class by lookup. If I do a plain Lookup with the JNDI name it goes pretty fine and I am able to get the EJBObject instance. but If i try to call with the reference i mean creating reference which we create when we are calling one EJB from the other or when we call and EJB from a web layer it is giving namenotfound exception. Can anybody let me know whether we can call the ejb from a normal java class with a reference when both the ejb and the java class are in the same package.
    Below give is the code which demonstrates my problem.
    code:
    //          Context jndiContext = new InitialContext();          Object obj = jndiContext.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/Test");          TestHome testHome = (TestHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj,TestHome.class);          Test test = testHome.create();          test.processTransaction(100);

    Hi Naidu,
    It's not a question of whether the calling code and the target ejb are in the same java package. What matters is whether the calling code is part of a J2EE component and where it is executing. Any code running within a J2EE component (servlet, jsp, ejb, Application Client) can declare component dependencies and look them up via java:comp/env. In J2EE 1.4 and earlier this means declaring the dependency in web.xml, ejb-jar.xml or application-client.xml.
    If you have code running outside of an Application Server and outside of an Application Client container, it's not a J2EE component and therefore cannot use the J2EE component namespace (java:comp/env). Technically these kinds of applications are not portable. However, most implementations support them by requiring that the code do a direct global lookup of a JNDI name.

    What is the version of your mm.mysql driver? We test using version 1.2a
    Have you placed the zip files (mm.mysql.jdbc-1.2a.zip) in the %ORACLE_HOME%\Omwb\drivers directory?
