Java calling functions in an OCX

Hey folks,
I have a proprietary OCX for a clicker system I use in my high school math classroom. The vendor gave me a VB SDK for calling the OCX functions and that works fine. However, I want to write apps using Java. So, I've thought about two options: 1) creating a VB DLL wrapper around the OCX and then calling routines from the VB DLL and 2) calling the routines from Java using some kind of Java COM bridge.
Choice 1 seems like the more difficult choice because I'll still have to use some kind of Java COM bridge to access the VB DLL. Also, if my memory serves me correctly, I recall that VB DLL's are not necessarily accessed the same way that C or C++ DLL's are (or maybe that changed with .NET?).
So, I spent the last week trying to find a Java COM bridge to make contact with the OCX directly. I've read through many posts here and I've searched around the net quite a bit. I've looked at JACOB, com4j, jawin, and comeclipse and I still can't get to the point where I can create a Java. com4j and comeclipse have come the closest to making me feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel. com4j's web site suggested using OLEVIEW to create the .IDL file that is almost like having the the type library (.tlb). That seemed to work, I do have a .IDL file. But when I tried to use com4j to create my wrapper files, the ClassFactory class didn't have any methods defined (it should have had some create... methods).
So, then I tried comeclipse. That actually took the OCX directly and created a number of Java wrapper code files. The answer may actually already be in my hands, but I'm not sure how to instantiate the objects in the wrapper code files. I'm lucky because the OCX file includes a function that produces an About box (sAbout). So, if I can figure out the syntax to call the About box, I should be able to figure out the rest of the syntax.
It would be awesome if someone had a clue about the syntax required in order to pull that About box up from Java.
This is the code from what looks like the main (I guess you could call it the root) file. Furtherdown the page, I have the Java code that includes the sAbout reference.

After a lot of searching, I had to resort to a second query as follows:
$getID = mysqli_fetch_assoc(mysqli_query($conn, "SELECT photodate FROM table WHERE ref = $t"));
$pdate = $getID['photodate'];
$pdate= (date('d/m/Y', strtotime($pdate)));
<td>Pictured : $pdate </td>
produced the correct output.
Moral - if you work at it long enough there is aways a way!

  • How to set the classpath and path from the jsp to call  java class function

    Hi Exprets,
    I have a requirement to call a java class function which returns a hashmap object from the jsp. The java class in present in one jar file and that jar file is location somewhere in unix path. So the requirement is to set the classpath for that jar file and then create the object of the java class and then call the function.
    If any one know how to achieve it, please reply as soon as possible.
    thanks in advance,

    It is never advisable to store large data sets in the session. But it will depend on a lot of factors:
    1. How costly is the query retrieving the data from the database?
    If it's a complex query with lots of joins and stuff, then it will be better to store it in the session as processing the query each time will take a lot of time and will decrease performance. On the other hand if the query is simple then it's advisable not to store it in the session, and fetch it each time.
    2. Are there chances for the data to become stale within a session?
    In this case storing the data is session will mean holding the stale data till the user session lasts which is not right.
    3. How many data sets does the session already holds?
    If there are large no. of data sets already present in the session, then it's strictly not advisable to store the data in the session.
    4. Does the server employ some kind of caching mechanism?
    Using session cache can definitely improve performance.
    You will have to figure out, what is the best way analyzing all the factors and which would be best in the situation. As per my knowledge, session is the only place where session specific data can be stored.
    Also, another thing, if the data set retrieved is some kind of data to be displayed in reports, then it would be better to use a pagination query, which will retrieve only the specific no. of rows at a time. A navigation provided in the UI will retrieve the next/previous data set to display.
    Thanks,
    Shakti

  • Calling Java Script Function from Applet

    How can I call the Java Script method from Applet. This should work both on IE and NN running on both Windows NT and solaris. I know it is possible to call the function in Java script using JSObject. But I don't have JSObject at run time. Please let me know how to call Java Script function from applet without using JSObject.

  • Calling a java script function while page loads in ebiz

    Hi OAF gurus,
    I have a requirement of Calling a java script function at each OAF page renders or Loads.
    I.e. when any OAF page loads or render in Oracle e-biz i have a java script function which needs to be called Is there any way to implement the above mentioned requirement.
    Many thanks in advance..
    Sourav

    Hi!
    From OAF classes java doc:
    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.webui.OAPageBean
    A class for processing and rendering HTML pages, designed to be invoked from either a JSP page or a servlet.
    Allows you to:
    Validate a user's session and redirect to a login page.
    Set the servlet Response content type to the correct character set as defined by the ICX_CLIENT_IANA_ENCODING profile. (The character set should NOT be set in the JSP page ContentType declaration.)
    Parse a HTTP Request and initialize BC4J application modules and view objects. (For HTML post, apply the content of the submitted form parameters to view objects.)
    Render a HTML page header and body
    It has 2 metods:
    public void renderDocument()
    Renders the HTML document. This is the most common API invoked by JSPs or servlets, and is used to render both the HTML header and body.
    renderBody
    public void renderBody()
    Renders the HTML body only.
    I think you can decompile this class or get the source from oracle and add your javascript code into this method.
    When OA page rendered, your code would be added to avery page, i think
    But it's some kind of hack or something ;-)

    Here where i am printing the date i had to get the value from the js function. how to do that. plz help me....

    Are you talking about server-side java code (servlets/jsp) or client side (applet)? Given we are in the JSP forum I'll assume we're talking server side.
    If so, you are making a common but fundamental mistake. JavaScript executes on the client, not on the server. If you want client data on the server it has to get there somehow. The simplest way to do this in JSP land is via HTTP. So... have your JavaScript code call a JSP (or servlet) and pass the value you want as a URL parameter. Of course this will also change the browser location, so if you don't want this to happen use a frame or iframe to capture your HTTP request.
    For example:
    Javascript....
    function someFunction() {
    return 1;
    var value = someFunction();
    location.href="somejsp.jsp?value=" + value;

  • Error while transforming XSLT by calling function with Reflection API

    Hi,
    I'm new to Reflection API. I want to call function from the jar file which is not in my application context. So I have loaded that jar ( say XXX.jar) file at runtime with URLClassLoader and call the function say [ *myTransform(Document document)* ]. Problem is that when I want to transform any XSLT file in that function it throws exception 'Could not compile stylesheet'. All required classes are in XXX.jar.

  • CALL FUNCTIONS

    HI ALL
    WHERE CAN I FIND ALL THE FUNCTION MODULES USED IN ABAP AND I ALSO NEED EXPLANATIONS ....CAN ANYONE HELP
    WITH REGARDS
    VIJAY

    Hi,
    You can use the table TFDIR  to see all the fun modules in ABAP.
    see the doc  and links for further details
    Function Modules;
    Check this matter.
    Function Modules are Glopbal ABAP programs created by SAP for reusable purpose.they have IMPORT,EXPORT and TABLE parameters, and EXCEPTIONS to through when error occurs.
    You can create them from TCode SE37.
    Go through the following doc:
    Function modules are cross-program, reusable procedures that are organized into function groups, and whose functions are implemented between the statements FUNCTION and ENDFUNCTION. Function modules and their interfaces are created in the Function Builder.
    Function Module Interfaces
    The parameter interface of a function module is defined in the Function Builder. It includes the definition of interface parameters and the specification of exceptions that can be triggered by a function module. The Function Builder automatically generates comment lines below the FUNCTION statement in the source code of the function module, which represent the interface of the function module with the following syntax:
    Syntax
    ... [IMPORTING parameters]
    [EXPORTING parameters]
    [CHANGING parameters]
    [TABLES table_parameters]
    [{RAISING|EXCEPTIONS} exc1 exc2 ...]
    The syntax and semantics of IMPORTING, EXPORTING, CHANGING, RAISING, and EXCEPTIONS mainly correspond to the definition of method interfaces with [CLASS-]METHODS. The additional option of defining table parameters using TABLES is obsolete.
    Interface parameters
    The interface parameters are defined on the relevant tab pages in the Function Builder.
    IMPORTING parameters are input parameters. When the function module is called, a suitable actual parameter must be specified for every non-optional input parameter. The content of the actual parameter is passed to the input parameter when the call is made. The content of an input parameter for which 'pass by reference' is defined cannot be changed in the function module.
    EXPORTING parameters are output parameters. When the function module is called, a suitable actual parameter can be specified for every output parameter. The content of an output parameter that is defined for 'pass by value' is transferred to the actual parameter if the function module is completed without errors. An output parameter that is defined for pass by reference is not initialized when the function module is called.
    CHANGING parameters are input and output parameters. When the function module is called, a suitable actual parameter must be specified for every non-optional input or output parameter. When the function module is called, the content of the actual parameter is passed to the input/output parameter, and when the function module is completed, the content of the input/output parameter is passed to the actual parameter.
    TABLES parameters are table parameters. Table parameters are obsolete CHANGING parameters that are typed as standard tables with a header line. If an internal table without a header line or a table body is passed as an actual parameter to a formal parameter of this type, an empty local header line is generated in the function module. If an internal table with a header line is used as an actual parameter, both the table body and the header line are passed to the function module. Pass by value is not possible in formal parameters defined using TABLES. Formal parameters defined with TABLES can be replaced by formal parameters defined with CHANGING. A local work area can be created for the internal table in the function module by using the addition LIKE LINE OF itab of the DATA statement.
    Exceptions
    The exception of a function module are defined on the Exceptions tab page in the Function Builder. Here you can select exception classes to define whether class-based exceptions are declared or non-class-based exception are defined. Class-based exceptions are represented in the above syntax by RAISING, and non-class-based exceptions are represented by EXCEPTIONS.
    The addition RAISING is used to declare class-based exceptions that can be propagated from the function module to the caller. Exceptions in the categories CX_STATIC_CHECK and CX_DYNAMIC_CHECK must be explicitly declared, otherwise a propagation can lead to an interface violation. A violation of the interface leads to the treatable exception CX_SY_NO_HANDLER. Exceptions of the category CX_NO_CHECK are implicitly always declared. The declaration of exceptions of the category CX_STATIC_CHECK is statically checked in the syntax check. For exceptions of the category CX_DYNAMIC_CHECK, the check is not performed until runtime. In a function module in which class-based exceptions are declared with the RAISING addition, the statement CATCH SYSTEM-EXCEPTIONS cannot be used. Instead, the relevant treatable exceptions should be handled in a TRY control structure.
    The addition EXCEPTIONS is used to define a list of non-class-based exceptions that can be triggered in the function module using the statements RAISE or MESSAGE RAISING. Exceptions defined in this way - as with formal parameters - are bound to the function module and cannot be propagated. If an exception of this type is triggered in a function module, and no return value has been assigned to it with the homonymous addition EXCEPTIONS of the CALL FUNCTION statement when the call was made, this leads to a runtime error.
    Note
    For new developments after release 6.10, SAP recommends that you work with class-based exceptions that are independent of the function module.
    RFC is a technology which is used to access a functions (Modules) from
    the remote systems.
    If a function module is set as remote enabled which can be access from
    the remote system via RFC.Eg: U can access the Remote enabled function modules in ur VB,Webdynpro,Java,Visual composer program.
    A function module can be set as remote enabled by SE37->Go to ur FM->click the option Button "remote enabled".
    But Normal function modules can not accessd from the remote system.
    Good Example for RFC enabled function module is : BAPI(Business Application Programming Interface)
    Note: All BAPIs are Remote enabled but not all remote enabled function modules are BAPI.
    CALLING A FUNCTION MODULE:
    1)In U ABAP Editor --> Click "Patter" ---> Selection Option Button "Call Function"
    --> Write the Corresponding FM name --> Hit Enter
    2)The appropriate import ,export Parameters will be displayed in ur editor
    3)Pass the Values Here.

    My requirement is to call a RFC Java function in SAP. The Java function is an encryption function which has 4 parameters (Password, Message, Strength128, Strength256). I need to pass the data for the parameters from SAP to JAVA. With the help of SDN, I tried to call this function in ABAP. A destination named 'INTEGRATION' is created in SM59, with the registered Program ID 'ASEncryptionHelper'. ASEncryptionHelper is the Java function name and the program ID is registered with this name only. The following is the code I wrote in my report
    DATA: XPASS TYPE STRING.
    XPASS = 'PASS'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'ASENCRYPTIONHELPER' DESTINATION 'INTEGRATION'
      EXPORTING
        PASSWORD          = XPASS
        MESSAGE             = XML_RESULT
        STRENGTH128       = ' '
        STRENGTH256       = 'X'
    I have created a RFC function module in my SAP system with the name ASENCRYPTIONHELPER
    FUNCTION ASENCRYPTIONHELPER.
    ""Local Interface:
    *"  IMPORTING
    *"     VALUE(PASSWORD) TYPE  STRING
    *"     VALUE(MESSAGE) TYPE  STRING
    *"     VALUE(STRENGTH128) TYPE  BOOLEAN
    *"     VALUE(STRENGTH256) TYPE  BOOLEAN
    ENDFUNCTION.
    When I execute the program I get a runtime error "Bean ASENCRYPTIONHELPER not found on host HOSTNAME".
    I am not able tofigure out the exact problem.
    Also I wanted to know whether the way I am coding is right. Do I need to create a RFC function module in SAP also as I did above?
    Does the Uppercase of the function 'ASENCRYPTIONHELPER' matter? In SM59 the program id is mentioned as 'ASEncryptionHelper'.
    I tried to change the function name with 'ASEncryptionHelper' in the CALL FUNCTION, but then I get another error, "JCO.Server could not find server function 'ASEncryptionHelper' '. What is wrong? I am confused.
    Please guide.
    Thanks
    Anu.

    Hi,
    I didn't get your requirement wxatly but you can do as below,
    What I am assuming is you have a java batch file at your desktop and you want to encrypt the file through this batch file execution from SAP.
    Now to execute the batch file at runtime and to pass data at runtime you can use below function module
    W_RFCENCRY = 'C:\Encrypt\enc.exc C:\Encrypt\test.txt'.
    W_RFCDEST = 'ZRFC'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'RFC_REMOTE_PIPE'
          DESTINATION W_RFCDEST
          EXPORTING
            COMMAND               = W_RFCENCRY
          EXCEPTIONS
            COMMUNICATION_FAILURE = 1
            SYSTEM_FAILURE        = 2
            OTHERS                = 4.
    Here ZRFC is the RFC created in SM59 as below
    1) select TCP/IP and create ZRFC
    in program option type as below C:\RfcSdk\bin\rfcexec.exe
    Note: RFCDSK folder is required to execute the batch file at your workstation at path specified as above
    2) In activation type select start on front end work station radio button.
    Now save the RFC and check the connection, same will be there if RFC SDK folder is available as specified in the program option
    In W_RFCENCRY give the inputs that you want to pass with the batch file.
    here I have mentioned as 'C:\Encrypt\enc.exc C:\Encrypt\test.txt'. in the program where C:\Encrypt\enc.exc is the path for batch file and C:\Encrypt\test.txt is the path of the file on the work station which is to be encrypted.
    Hope this will help you, I think at your end batch file can be different and inputs to be passed in the batch file can also be different.

  • Calling Function on JSP page

    Hi all
    can someone please tell what am I doing wrong here? I'm trying to call Function on a JSP page
    CallableStatement cs = connection.prepareCall("{? = call pa_dump_xml.fn_user_diary(?)}");
    ResultSet rs = cs.executeQuery();
    while (rs.next()) {
    %>
        <input type="text" name="app1" id="textfields1" size="" value="<% out.println(rs.getInt(11));%>" readonly="readonly"/>
    <%
    rs.close();
    %>... And I keep getting this error
    root cause
    javax.servlet.ServletException: java.sql.SQLException: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 1Thanks

    Thanks for your reply, this is my code ;
    CallableStatement cs = connection.prepareCall("{? = call pa_dump_xml.fn_user_diary(?)}");
    proc.registerOutParameter(1, Types.INTEGER);
    ResultSet rs = cs.executeQuery();
    while (rs.next()) {
    %>
        <input type="text" name="app1" id="textfields1" size="" value="<% out.println(rs.getInt(1));%>" readonly="readonly"/>
    ......And the error I'm getting is
    java.lang.NullPointerException It's a JSP page as an index page where I need to show Data in some textfields on load of page. I'm sure there is a better way of doing this but I can not think how to go about it.
    Thanks
