Java edition compatible with standard edition?
Hi
I have a database created using Java edition 3.2.44
I want to write an application in C++ which reads this database using the standard Berkeley DB (possibly at the same time as the java application is also accessing them). Are the database files compatible?
I'm not too hopeful since the the database files are named something like 00000000.jdb and je.lck.
Any help appreciated
Nick
Hi Nick,
This FAQ entry addresses this question:
(a small additional information to this entry is that DPL API has been introduced for BDB as well in 4.7.25)
As explained, the on-disk format for the database files is different. You should dump the database created with JE (using the DbDump/com.sleepycat.je.util.DbDump utility: [http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/java/com/sleepycat/je/util/DbDump.html|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/java/com/sleepycat/je/util/DbDump.html]) and load it using BDB before opening it in a a program using one of the BDB APIs (using the db_load utility: [http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/utility/db_load.html|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/utility/db_load.html] )
If you face any issues with dumping/loading the database let me know.
Regards,
Andrei

Ghost connections "Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition"
We have a server application with multiple threads each using JDBC connections. On the Database server (MS SQL Server 7) we notice more and more connections with the SQLQueryAnalyzer-ProgramName "Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition". But all our (known) connections have custom names or the default name of the JDBC driver (jTDS). The developer of jTDS answered that the driver only have connections that are requested by the application. But we don't have connections named dbc connections "Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition" ... ?
We don't use an application server, it's just a plain Java application. No frameworks and only 3rd party libs that don't handle any database connection - and the JDBC driver jTDS. As one of the developers got very angry about my bug report, because he insists that it's not the fault of jTDS, I have to rule out jTDS. That would mean that it's somewhere in my application. But I just have 1 single class that actually creates a JDBC connection, so it's not hard to debug this. And I can't see any additional connections as all of my connections get specific names and not "Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition".
I searched all source code of the Java SDK, jTDS and my source code for occurences of "Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition" and can't find any. I hoped that somebody knows who is using this string (and when). It sounds like general Java (SDK/JRE) is setting this name, but I haven't found it. -
Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition binary has stopped working
Does anyone ever put ODAC10203x64.zip into Windows Server 2008 x64? I hit the error:
Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition binary has stopped working
Ming ManHi Mark,
Let me get you more details.
I have Windows Server 2008 x64 running with Visual Studio 2008 installed.
For Oracle, I have cleared all my previous installation and even deleted all the folders for previous installation of ODP.NET. After that I only installed the Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.4) from the link you gave (I installed all the components) :
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10204_winx64_vista_win2k8.html
I have Oracle Database 11g running on VMWare on Windows XP 32 bit.
When I run my WinForm application using code so far so good. I extract data from the HR schema and put them in listbox, perfectly no error.
But when I am trying to create by Add New Data Source... then I hit the:
Attempt to load Oracleclient libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components
Hope that can give you a better idea.

Standby Database with Standard Edition
Hi All,
I'm attempting to setup a Standby database with Oracle 10g Standard Edition. I must manually copy over the archive logs to my Standby database server because i'm using Standard Edition.
Once my primary database archive logs have been copied over to the standby location shouldn't the database automatically apply those archive logs? I have issued the "alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session" so my understanding is that it is in recovery mode and shoudl be finding the archive logs to apply. Can anyone confirm that this configuration should work with Standard Edition and perhaps point me in the right direction, which parameters in the init file to check, to get my standby database to apply these archive logs automatically.
Thanks,To quickly determine the level of synchronization for the standby database, issue the following query on the physical standby database:
SQL> SELECT ARCHIVED_THREAD#, ARCHIVED_SEQ#, APPLIED_THREAD#, APPLIED_SEQ#
2> FROM V$ARCHIVE_DEST_STATUS;
ARCHIVED_THREAD# ARCHIVED_SEQ# APPLIED_THREAD# APPLIED_SEQ#

Realize as well that you can only have one ASM per host. If you want to have ASM in a separate HOME, you will need to do that first, stop the existing ASM, and fire up the new one.
For transportable tablespace, according to Oracle's Licensing document, it is an EE-only feature.
(As for 'my assistance': ask a question for each problem you hit. I may or may not be available, but probably someone will pick up the question if you include the OS/DB version and show your work.) -

Ultrasearch with Standard edition
Can someone please confirm whether or not Ultra Search can be configured with the Standard edition of the 10gR2 database ? I was not able to run the configuration from the companion CD against a Standard database, only against an Enterprise edition.
There seems to be no documentation clarifying which versions Ultra Search can be configured to run on.
Cheers,

ASM option comes with Standard Edition Oracle 11g R2 Install or not?
Hello,
I just wanted to make sure before installing the Oracle 11g R2 software, whether ASM (Automatic Storage Management) is available for Standard edition or not?
Thank you for your help.

Is text edit compatible with pc?
Just curious.
Thanks.Although basic, TextEdit will open a 'txt' file from a PC. It will also open an RTF (Rich Text Format) and even a Word document, although some of the formatting may be lost.
TextEdit can save to RTF, Word and HTML formats, and if you click Format > Make Text Plain, you can also save as a .txt file.
So yes, TextEdit is compatible with a PC -
Migration SAP SolMan 7.1 MSSQL 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition to MSSQL Standard Edition
Hello,
I try to migrate a SAP SolMan 7.1 on Windows MSSQL 2008 R2 ENTERPRISE EDITION to
MSSQL 2008 R2 STANDARD EDITION.
In the source system (MSSQL 2008 R2 ENTERPRISE EDITION) there is "table compression" and
"partitioning" active.
the MSSQL STANDARD EDITION doesn`t support these two features.
So a normal DB backup on the source system and restore in the destination system is not possible.
But the tables compression I can deactivte by the SQL script
SELECT DISTINCT ‘ALTER TABLE [' + SCHEMA_NAME(schema_id) + '].[' + NAME + '] REBUILD PARTITION = ALL WITH (DATA_COMPRESSION = NONE);’
FROM sys.partitions p
join sys.objects o
on p.object_id = o.object_id
WHERE o.TYPE = ‘u’
and data_compression_desc != ‘NONE’
UNION
SELECT ‘ALTER INDEX ALL ON [' + SCHEMA_NAME(schema_id) + '].[' + NAME + '] REBUILD PARTITION = ALL WITH (DATA_COMPRESSION = NONE);’
FROM sys.partitions p
join sys.objects o
on p.object_id = o.object_id
WHERE o.TYPE = ‘u’
and data_compression_desc != ‘NONE’
is there a way to undo or deactivate the the SQL table partitioning without any data lost ?
Or is there a other way to migrate a SAP SolMan 7.1 form MSSQL 2008 R2 ENTERPRISE EDITION to MSSQL 2008 R2 STANDARD EDITION ?

SQL Server - Developer Edition - Downgrade to standard edition
Hi,
So the developer edition is a great way to setup a dev and test environment for pretty much nothing. But it is fully featured as an Enterprise Edition.
Now, we are using Standard Edition on our production servers.
Is it possible to install Developer Edition with only the standard edition features ?
Or to buy the developer licences and install standard edition for the test environment ?
The risk being that our devs use enterprise editions in the dev environment that would not work in production and thus add dev cycles.
ThanksHello,
Probably you can block the use of some enterprise features using Policy Based Management.

B.-D.Hello Lydia Zhang,
thanks for your help.
For a few tables this will work.
Unfortunately I have an SAP system with thousands of tables and index`s .
With the SQL script:
SELECT

,p.partition_number AS PartitionNumber
,fg.name AS Filegroup_Name
,rows AS 'Rows'
,au.total_pages AS 'TotalDataPages'
,CASE boundary_value_on_right
WHEN 1 THEN 'less than'
ELSE 'less than or equal to'
END AS 'Comparison'
,value AS 'ComparisonValue'
,p.data_compression_desc AS 'DataCompression'
,p.partition_id

GROUP BY container_id) AS au ON au.container_id = p.partition_id
JOIN sys.tables t ON p.object_id = t.object_id
WHERE i.index_id < 2
ORDER BY ObjectName,p.partition_number;
GO
Output:
