Java install question

I am trying to run xsu from the command line and must have my java incorrectly setup. Could someone look at my class path and problem to point out the solution. I suspect I need to install a higher version of java on the box.

When I installed Oracle Lite, it seem to really want java sdk 1.4.x.
I had a newer sdk on one machine and I could not get it to go.
Is 1.4 a requirement? Or was I seeing something else?

Java install won't accept <Ok>?? Desperate for help??
I've decided that I'm going to develop my Rails applications in Linux and keep hitting a BRICK WALL every time I try to install NetBeans or Java. I download all of the packages and come to a text screen that says "Package Configuration" and then "Configuring sun-java5-bin" and then it asks you to read the agreement and there's an <Ok> at the bottom. I can't get through this and everytime it fails my 'package manager' goes bonkers and I have to reload the Ubuntu Gutys Gibbon operating system AGAIN!!!
I push ENTER and type in "yes" and "Ok" and there is no response.
I've loaded this operating system FIVE TIMES NOW and the bottleneck is very frustrating as I can't program in a graphics environment without Java.
I joined this forum just to ask this question and would be grateful for a reply at [email protected]

  • How to check Java installed in my system

    Hi All
I new to java i have not some doubts
1)In my system I have this many JDK i dont know for this JDK what IDE version i need to download. I like to use netbeans which one should i need to download?
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_01
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_22
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_01
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
But i dont have any IDE to develop my java like eclipse or Netbean etc ,I have Only Jdeveloper 9.0.3.5
2)How to find apache tomcat server is installed in by PC or not how to test that ?
please know the installion steps also in need to install ..
    Advance Thanks
    Aarasu

I like to use netbeans which one should i need to download? You'd think you would go to the Netbeans website and find out, but I'm silly like that. Either a recent JDK 6 or the latest JDK 7 will do just fine. I would install Java anywhere except in program files. I install all my Java stuff in a directory called "java" myself, so I have C:\java\jdk6, c:\java\eclipse37, c:\java\tomcat7, etc. I never have to search for my stuff that way.
(of course being a proper computer savvy user I partioned my harddrive to reserve the C drive specifically for the OS only, so it is in fact e:\java).
2)How to find apache tomcat server is installed in by PC or not how to test that ?Use the search function of your OS of course. Its not even a Java related question.

  • Where is java installed?

where on the mac is Java installed? I have java 1.6, but I want 1.5 (since will be running Tomcat 5.5..) also, it says here,
    http://www.javatester.org/version.html
that Java that comes with the mac comes from Apple and not from Sun, and that it tends to be buggy, so I might as well install it on my own.. my main question is: where do I install it? I don't know b/c can't find the install that is there now (found version by typing java -version in unix shell, but when search for "java" I can't find where sdk/jre is installed.. )
    ......l
acutally, ran a search, found Java install in system/.../frameworks/javaVM.framework.. so do I install 1.5 in system/.../frameworks/?? (need to make very sure two installs, 1.6 and 1.5, are kept separately, too bad javaVM.framework dir doesn't have version in its name (if I un-install 1.6, would that adversely affect anything in the machine I don't know about that needs java 1.6 to function?)
    thank you..

thank u very much for yr responses.. have run searches and found where Java is installed.. have decided to install tomcat 6 to not twist myself into pretzel trying to fit a square into a circle.. so: only instructions have found to install specif. tomcat 6 are here,
    http://www.malisphoto.com/tips/tomcatonosx.html
I am getting to the point where I distrust anything I see on the internet about Apple products that doesn't end in "apple.com". Technically, those instructions are correct, but way too confusing. They are trying to cover all situations for 100% of all users. It would be far better to just focus on the most common 95% and let the outliers fend for themselves. If they are outliers, they can probably figure it out anyway.
the unix part seems complicated ("The OS X developer tools must be installed to compile the MOD_JK connector, Native Library, or the JSVC daemon..." oh man...)
but well, first thing tried to do was set JAVA_HOME env var.. following instructions on this page did
    set JAVA_HOME /Library/Java/Home
    Use:
    export JAVA_HOME=/Home/Java/Home
and put that line at the end of the file ".bash_profile" in your home directory.
but not sure if it took, not sure what command is in unix to list all env vars.. I thought it was 'env' but running command 'env' the list of env vars does not include JAVA_HOME, even after I set it.. at first did
    set JAVA_HOME /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home
That is just a more confusing way of referring to the same path as above.

  • About Java install

    Hey y'all!
    Now I have some Questions.
1 : My OS is 10.7.3. I'm tryin' to install a Java from 10.7 update, then it told me I already installed a new version and stop installing.
Is that mean if I don't do some special work, I can only install current or newer version of Java?
2 : I'm new on Mac. Never seen a Java solo update in "software update". But I saw Java install pkg on Mac "Support Download".
Is Java solo update happens on "software update"?
3 : My OS is a brand new 10.7.3, never run a Java app. I know the Java is not actually installed, just a shortcut of Java Install.
Now I do the software update to 10.7.4. When it's done. Do I have a already installed Java? Or let's say "Does the System Update include Java Install packeg?"
4 : Is the download address of Install packegs in Support Download will be failure? I see only the newest software on it.
    Thanks for reading my questions.

The latest Java update for Lion is Java for OS X Lion 2012-004. All Java components EXCEPT the Java Runtime Environment are installed by default. To install the JRE, launch the Java Preferences.app in /Utilities and follow the instructions.

  • How do I Use Illustrator CS 6 (16.0.4) on Mac OS 10.9 without Java Installed?

    Greetings!
I have moved to a new system running Mac OS 10.9, and I am able to run Photoshop CS6 and InDesign CS6 without having Java installed on this system. Sadly, I receive the following error message when I try to start Illustrator CS6 (version 16.0.4, not the Creative Cloud edition).
To open “Adobe Illustrator CS6,” you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?
I searched the the forums and read that some users can run Illustrator CS6 without Java SE 6 (or Java 7) by removing FXGFileFormat.aip and FXGFileFormatUI.aip from Illustrator’s Plug-ins folder. Removing these plug-ins makes no difference on my system. I am still prompted to installed Java SE 6 after I try to start Illustrator CS6.
How can you use Adobe Illustrator CS 6 without having Java SE 6 installed?
    Thank you for your help.
    JJJ

I wish I had an answer...it seems this issue is throughout my CS 6 programs.  I can no longer even start a program.

  • Java Install error 1603 on Java 8u45

I am having issues getting Java to Install on a Windows 7 Pro PC in a stand alone environment.
Error Code 1603.  Java is needed on this PC to be able to print shipping labels from FEDEX.com. I am trying to install using the administrator account. I have removed previous versions of Java. I have  removed the MS updated KB2918614.
The java uninstall tool doesn't run because Java is required to run the java uninstall tool.  I have run multiple Microsoft Fixit Tools.  This is the second PC I have had this error with in this office. Does anyone have any thing more to offer that
might assist me. I have "Google'd" this error for 2 weeks now.  Help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You!

    Hi,
According to official site of Oracle, This is a known issue with Microsoft KB2918614The root causes of these errors are under investigation. If this error still persists after uninstalled this update.
You could try following zooeyhall’s suggestion to download and install a previous version of Java or try creating a new administrative user account and install Java with the new account.

  • Sneak Preview sp11 Slim Java install hangs on J2EE Startup

I looked around at the other instances of this type of error, but they seemed to be slightly different issues (or at least, at differenst steps).  Tried what helped them anyway, though it didn't really help.
My install hangs at the Start J2EE Engine (step 21 of 24 normally).  It seems to retry every 20 seconds, but never gets anywhere and eventually pops up an error.  I've retried from there, stopped and restarted, wiped out the whole install and tried again.  I've repeated this for several versions of Java, the latest being the 1.4.2_08 version.  They all get to the same part and die.
This is the error right before it gets into full swing on the waiting/retrying.

My os is XP, and seems to meet the min system requirements for the slim version.
Any ideas on getting over this hump?
Edit:  After talking with someone at the ICC, turns out pretty much that I shouldn't be trying to install the slim version.  So, time to go find a machine that can handle the normal Java install.

Looking around at other experiences as well as my own several attempts (just tried an installation on XP several times this evening), none of this stuff works and SAP could not possibly care less.  A clearly deeply flawed installation has been sitting around for 5 months now...  one is left to wonder what highly specific conditions are required for success.
Good luck to you... I give up.

There isn't a patch for a computer running Leopard .

  • Does the Flashback malware have an effect on OS X systems without java installed?

Does the Flashback malware have an effect on OS X systems without java installed? Just asking since i do not have java installed...

It's not likely, but better safe than sorry. See
    Helpful Links Regarding Flashback Trojan
Visit Thomas Reed's site for insight and help: Mac Malware Guide
A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started. However, be careful about what you do as new variants of the malware circumvent the efforts of earlier tools.
Also see Apple's article About Flashback malware.
Apple has released Java updates for Snow Leopard and Lion users:
Java for OS X Lion 2012-003; available only for users of Lion with Java installed.
Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8; available only for users of Snow Leopard.
Flashback malware removal tool; available only for users of Lion without Java installed.
Install whichever shows up in Software Update. It removes the malware (if present), updates Java (if present) and tightens up Java settings for the future.  You may download from Apple's web site instead of using Software Update, but it's important to know which one to get, because the other two won't work for you.

No. Use Software Update which should produce the Java update. Or you can find it at support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Stupid Java Development Question (JDK? XCode?)

I'm brand new to OS X, so forgive my noobness. I'm still getting used to OS X.
I'm doing this little Java tutorial. It says I need to download an install the Java JDK. As I understand it, Java is already built into OS X and I need to use XCode to create and compile Java programs instead of the JDK....where the heck is XCode?
If anyone knows, I could really use some help. Just finished going through the basics of how to make simple programs in Java but I don't know what to do! Lol. I feel so dumb. I kind of want to call Apple, but I think I'd feel to stupid. I think I have to download XCode? That's what I'm doing now. I had to sign up with the ADC. It's a big file though, 915MB, and it's probably going to take around an hour. I hope someone can tell me if I'm doing the right thing or not before then. I'm guessing I just download this and use this to write Java? How then do I compile? The tutorial is telling me to go to the command prompt and do:
    Code:
    javac filename.java
to compile the class and then,
    Code:
    java classname
    to execute.
I'm guessing that in OS X I'm going to use the terminal to accomplish this?
Any help would be appreciated. I feel really dumb right now. The tutorial only covers how to do this in Windows and Solaris.

    Hi Ralph
I'm doing this little Java tutorial. It says I need
to download an install the Java JDK. As I understand
it, Java is already built into OS X and I need to use
XCode to create and compile Java programs instead of
the JDK....where the heck is XCode?
Go to http://developer.apple.com/ and sign up for a free Apple Developer Connection account. Once you've logged in, go to Downloads and you'll be able to find the latest versions of Xcode and Java. When it comes to downloading Java, take care to choose the version which matches your hardware and version of OS X.
    [snip] It's a big file though, 915MB,
and it's probably going to take around an hour. I
hope someone can tell me if I'm doing the right thing
or not before then. I'm guessing I just download this
and use this to write Java? How then do I compile?
Yes - they're big files and you need to persevere with the downloads. Once you've got Xcode and Java installed, you can find some newby tutorials on my web page here:
    http://www.cems.uwe.ac.uk/~lrlang/javasoundmusic/index.html
You'll find the links to tutorials near the bottom of the page.
The tutorial is telling me to go to the command
    prompt and do:
    Code:
    javac filename.java
to compile the class and then,
    Code:
    java classname
    to execute.
I'm guessing that in OS X I'm going to use the
    terminal to accomplish this?
Yes. This technique works for any Unix system (including OS X), and I used to teach my students to work this way, but I no longer recommend it. As you guessed, you have to type in these commands into the Utilities/Terminal program. However, to be effective you also need to know a number of other Unix commands like "cd" "ls", "pwd" and a few more which you can find in any introductory book on Unix. You also need to use a text editor (such as TextEdit) to create your Java source files and then save them to the hard disk. While this technique will work, you won't get the syntax highlighting and colouring that is offered by the Xcode editor.
Any help would be appreciated. I feel really dumb
right now. The tutorial only covers how to do this
    in Windows and Solaris.
I think that if you follow my tutorials you will very quickly get up and running with Java development. I hope you enjoy working with Java as much as I do. You can always come back here if you need more help.

  • Several versions of java installed

    hello all,
i have several versions of Java installed on my PC and its fast becoming a mess.
how can i completely remove all of them and only then install the latest jsdk?
    thank you

Version conflicts are a rarity in Java. The latest JRE is usually utilised unless otherwise specified.
Only one JRE can be used at any one time by one program on Windows anyway. It does get crowded sometimes however - just uninstall as you would any other program with the Control Panel::Add/Remove Programs.
Personally I keep all of my JREs on my machine for several reasons and I recommend keeping it this way.
