Java installation under Linux

Hi
I've got a problem with the installation of somme Java Packages under Linux.
What must I do with the "*.jar" file? I wont to install the neu Open Xchange Server under SuSE 9.1, but there are somme Problems with the Java Packages!
Can someone help me???

Hello Ishan,
The J2EE server is not starting because of the error in A. Please refer to note 965451 for solution.
The warnings in part B are insignificant. The startup framework has list with profile parameters and when a parameter is not in the list complains with warning. This warning doesn't mean that the parameter is wrong!
The jcontrol is the parent process of the server process and if the server process dies you will always get error message there.

Java running under linux with crontab

I'm having a problem:
i want to run a java program under linux with crontab.
my classes are in a directory and aren't in a package. i run em by invoking ./start which is a small script that i wrote. The script is in the same dir as the classes and invokes java by "java Main >>logjava.txt " but this doesn't seem to work all i get is an empty logfile
i need to run the program every day at 0800 so i inserted the following in crontab:
0 8 * 1-5 /var/"path"/start > logjava (where path is the path to the classes dir)
if i run the cmdline from anywhere on the prompt i get the result i want. I think it's because the cron runs it from the root dir thus making java unable to find the classes
Any suggestions would be welcome. or can some1 tell me how to make linux executables from the java (i usually use jsmooth for the windows exe)

You can execute several commands in the process started by cron. You separate them using semicolons.
Have you tried a cron entry like this:
0 8 * 1-5 cd /var/"path";pwd;echo $PATH; ./start > logjavaOr, you may need to make sure the process started by cron gets the same environment as your interactive shells do, by explicitly loading your setup or .login scripts:
0 8 * 1-5 . $HOME/.setup;cd /var/"path";pwd;echo $PATH; ./start > logjava

Oracle 9i Installation under Linux

I am trying to Install Oracle 9.0.1 under Linux.
During the Installation Process it has given some
error as follows..
ERROR in invoking target install of makefile
/home/oracle/OraHome1/plsql/lib/ins_plsql.mk
and also for sqlplus and ldap etc, etc.
I ignored those and after 100% completion
its going into a window and saying Configuring NetAssistant and its going into a loop somewhere because its not coming out from that loop even after several hours.
Can you suggest something.

Java applications under Linux

Hello all
I want to share my experience with all about programs generated by Oracle Forms and running under Linux and ask for help.
We are developing systems under Oracle Forms to Windows, but some customers had restrictions with that operational system, then we had implemented IAS to run, under Java, the same applications.
Under Windows we have no problems, we just install JInitiator to made fast to charge/open the classes.
Under Linux we had not JInitiator and the solution is to implement a Proxy server.
In this test the first problem we had was a IP that the system can not resolve, looking for the solution on web, we found that it´s solved inserting this line in java.policy:
permission java.net.SocketPermission "200.204.0.1:9000-", "resolve";
But we had not to implemented the proxy server, after implement this other problem just stuck us.
The system just not show any error message and are not hang, but never open de login dialog.
Some one already had this kind of problem?
Could exist a difference between Linux configuration and Windows configuration to Java?

Problems with installation under Linux

I try to install Portal 3.0.6 under linux, but it always says on the end of the install that the SSOHash class was not loaded and that the WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$ table is empty. The install l9g shows a message that it couldn;t allocate space in lrage_pool, but I allocated much more space in this pool than the requirements said and it still doesn't work. The installation is mess,

loadjava expects ksh to be on the system. Obviously, you won't have ksh on your Linux box.
Perform a symbolic link from bash to ksh and it'll work just fine.

Problem with java installation on Linux

HI ,
I am trying to install jdk on Linux..I am new to java and Linux both. I am trying to download the file for the linux installation onto my home PC(windows XP) and then ftp it to my Linux machine. I need to do this because I have a remote login to my Linux machine( a server at school). However when I try to download file my IE jsut crashes. I can see the page for accepting the Agreement but when I click on Accept the next page just stops responding.
Could someone explain why this is happening.

The problem doesn't have to do anything with Java or Linux as far as i can see. It's more likely a problem with Windows XP and IE. Be assured that normally downloading the Linux JDK in windows is not a problem.

Java Web Start?

Borderlands 2 is showing up as installable under Linux in Steam

When I noticed it, I was pretty surprised and found this article: http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/b … irmed.4235 which is only from yesterday, and it made it sound like BL2 was coming in the not-too-distant-future, as in months or something. I couldn't find anything about it already being released though. Can anyone else see this? Is this some weird fluke?

Yeah, must be some kind of goof by Valve or Gearbox or some other involved party. I just "installed" it, and it downloaded 0/0 bytes, and claims that the game is installed. It won't start of course because it is missing executables. I tried verifying local files, and it said that everything was OK, even though there is nothing installed.
Maybe it's almost ready though?

Using JCOP tools under Linux

I looked through the older web sites of IBM regarding the usage of JCOP tools under Linux.
I am interested in following questions:
1. Is there any separate distributon version of JCOP tools for Linux?
2. Can sample JCOP tools 3.1.2 plugin (for Windows) be used under Linux. What has to be modified? Also what additional tools have to be installed an used for communication with real cards through PC/SC readers.
3. Is JCOP simulation option available under Linux?
I'll appreciate any help.

Linux distribution
The JCOP Tools simulation has been developed on a Fedora Core 6 system, but should also work in case of

Java Development Kit
The JCOP Tools have been developed and tested with the Sun JDK 1.4.2_13-b06
for Linux. Your success with other Development Kits may vary as there are
partly subtle differences across the different devlopment kits.
PCSC
The JCOP Tools use PCSC to talk with real cards on Linux. Most distributions
do not ship with Linux PCSC by default (Fedora Core 6 does), you must thus download it fromhttp://www.linuxnet.com
and install it by yourself. If you are used to software installation under Linux,
and are not afraid of compiling and installing software packages, this should
not be a hard problem. You have to download both the base PCSC package
(including PCSC daemon and client libraries) and separately the driver

communicating with a card works. The JCOP Tools have been reported to
work together with Muscle PCSC version 1.3.1-7.
JPCSC

Crash (SIGSEGV, SIGILL) of 32bit Hotspot under Linux x86_64 in VMware

A reproducible crash of these 1.6 32 bit Java VMs is hinderung my application from starting when I want to start it under a x86_64 Linux kernel in VMware (Workstation and ESX):

Sproradic but reproducible JVM (Hotspot) crashes while running a simple garbage collector stress application several times in parallel. hs_err files are generated each time. However, the "Problematic frame" address and library changes every time!

The problem only appears using JDK or JRE 1.6 32 bit edition on a Linux 2.6 x86_64 kernel in VMware. Tests using real hardware, using a i686 kernel and using JDK / JRE 1.6 64 bit edition or JDK / JRE 1.5 (32 bit and 64 bit) could not reproduce the crashes.

However, I've tested using several -XX: flags, but nothing really helped! (-XX:+UseParallelGC, -XX:-UseTLAB, -XX:+UseSpinning -XX-UseThreadPriorities, -XX:-UseBiasedLocking, -XX:-UseLargePages)

Loss of keyboard focus in Java appl running under linux

I have a small sample program that replicates my problem. When this program is run a window is created. If you select File->New another instance of the program window is created. Now if you try to go back and bring to front the first window, keyboard focus is not
transferred when run under linux. You can only type in the second window. The expected behavior does happen in Windows.

You can implement the FocusListener interface. When
the first JFrame gains focus, call
text.requestFocusInWindow(). I hope this helps.The call requestFocusInWindow is not helping, perhaps even making it worse.
The problem seems to be that I am in the situation where the call
KeyboardFocusManager.getCurrentKeyboardFocusManager().getPermanentFocusOwner()
is returning the expected Component. The problem is that the KeyListener class that is registered with the Component is not being called when a key is being pressed.
The issue is that I have a component that has the keyboard focus, but the KeyListener class
is not responding.
This seems to be a linux only problem which makes it only mysterious.

Feedback on XP Pro (guest OS) installation under VMware 5.5 on Linux host.

I successfully installed 10g XE on XP Pro (32 bit - with service pack 2 ) guest OS under Linux host (RedHat 4.0 ES - update 2).
The initial attempt was unsuccessful because of the MS Antivirus program (as some suggested on this forum). I then shutdown the listener service from command line, cleaned the registry for oracle entries (oci.dll was used by some application - I found it was Microsoft Transaction Server), then removed the oracleXE directory , set the oracle listener service to manual start (in services window), and then rebooted the machine. When logged back in, verified that the listener was not up, stopped the antivirus program and then reinstalled 10g XE. This time the installation was successful.
Realized the sys and system password is the same and by using the sql command tool as sys, you can create new tablespaces, new users, etc. (I could not find any other way to create a new tablespace or adding a new datafile to the existing users tablespace , from within the html_db based administration tool. I am a DBA, so I used the command line from the "Run SQL command line" icon (link). It displayed the SQL> prompt and then I connected as sysdba.
Next week, I will try installing 10g XE, on a Linux virtual machine (guest) running on XP 64 bit host. I will update this posting then...

I will just create a simple document for our end users explaining and including related sql scripts - or better yet - I will configure, install XE on Linux to a specific directory and then do a cold backup - make a bzipped tar file to distribute to the customer (I know this type of distribution/installation is not supported but it is working and tested with Forms 6i c/s runtime with proper patchset). This is why I will support the XE Linux version only - you don't have to deal with the "registry".
For our application XE will serve real well - for a simple scenario creation, they can use XE and Forms 6i C/S runtime on Linux. If they want to use our real time game support which will populate the data in close-to-real time and uses iAS EE forms services, then they need the install standard edition.
I will update with Linux VMware virtual machine installation feedback as soon as I finish installing.

how to run the output jar files with just double click ?
does i have to run sh file that do the hob how?

How to do a ping with ICMP in Java under Linux?

Does anyone know an easy way to do a ping with ICMPs under Linux? I did it under Windows, but under Linux, I've got some issues. I need a procedure that sends a ping with a id number and a seq number and another function pong that waits for a reply and returns the seq and id of the packets it received.
if anyone did this, please tell me how. I know it should be a native method, but how do I implement it...

rigth, i thought of that. but imagine that i have something like 100 hosts wich i must ping something like 20 times and get all the results in something like 5 seconds.
so i don't think that runtime will be a solution because that kind of pings tend to be safe and wait 1 sec between 2 succesive pings in order to prevent a flood.
i already did it in windows with a native dll. but i'm not so experienced in linux... :( so, if anyone can help...please do
