Java.lang.IllegalStateException: forward() not allowed after buffer has com
Dear all,
The error "java.lang.IllegalStateException: forward() not allowed after buffer has committed."
was reported by my resin-1.2.3 server.
Can anyone give me a suggestion to overcome this problem.
Regards
Ravikumar
My guess would be that this is not a jdbc error.
First there is no SQLException.
Second IllegalStateException is something that can occur in Servlet use for various reasons.
Perhaps you have other information that suggests it can only be JDBC?

Java.lang.IllegalStateException: Pool not open
We are getting an error declaring Pool not open on our GIS mapping application. The queries that seem to generate the error are looking for a Tax Key number in another SQL Server database using the MS SQL Server JDBC 2.0 driver (sqljdbc4.jar) Shown below is a snippet from the log files. Has anyone seen this pool not open error and if so how did you remedy it. I don't know too much about connection pooling (C3P0 and the like), but if you think that is an answer, I'd appreciate any help in how/where such a pool is setup.
Thanks in advance.
Jim

Java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cipher not initialized during loadtest
Hi All,
Below is my code :
static Cipher pbeCipher;
byte[] encbytes = hexToByte( encrypted );
pbeCipher.init( javax.crypto.Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, pbeKey, pbeParamSpec );
byte[] decbytes ;
synchronized (pbeCipher) {
decbytes = pbeCipher.doFinal( encbytes );
return new String( decbytes );
I got the below exception when we are actually performing the load tests where in 4000 hits are made on the code in 1 min.
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cipher not initialized
at javax.crypto.Cipher.c(Unknown Source)
at javax.crypto.Cipher.doFinal(Unknown Source)
My doubt here is : Is it occuring becuase of synchronizing issue? As shown in the code above i had synchronized the doFinal call. Still the exceptions are occuring. These are randomly coming say 1 out of 500 hits.
Please suggest me a solution on how to fix this. We are using PBEWithMD5AndDES encryption mechanism in this case.
Solution for this would help me a lot in terms of fixing it...
Thanks in Advance......Cipher is not thread safe so that is almost certainly your problem. Your synchronisation does not include the init() method so it is possible that the instance is being initialised in one thread and used for decryption in a different thread.
My approach is to create a pool of Cipher instances and then get an instance from the pool, use it and then put it back in the pool.
P.S. DES is now considered deprecated in favour of AES. PBE is a poor man's approach since the chances are the password has far less entropy than the key size so will be much weaker than that implied by the algorithm being used. PBE is normally used for securing a user's data so in a Web based application it normally does not make sense to use PBE. -

why?
Please everyone tell me if you can,thanks a lot.I believe, if it is the first time you are referring to the bean, you must use the class attribute rather than type:
<jsp:useBean id="collectionBean" scope="request" class="view.CollectionBean"/>The type is used to change how the bean is referenced, for instance, in regular Java you might do this:
// The Type The Class
java.util.List myList = new java.util.ArrayList();In use bean you would do this:
<jsp:useBean id="myList" class="java.util.ArrayList" type="java.util.List"/> -

I get this error in th elog and the record is not created.
According to some last post i tried the refreshcondition but this does not work, it just refreshes my calling taskflow and does not return any results e.g on search operation it just refreshes the table..Hi,

Getting java.lang.IllegalStateException while starting new transaction.
Hi All,
I am writing a simple web application(using netbeans visual jsf) but not able to proceed forward. I am encountering this "java.lang.IllegalStateException: Operation not allowed" when I try to start a new transaction.
Here's my code for session bean:
@Resource(name= "UserTransactionResource", mappedName="UserTransactionMapped")
private UserTransaction utx;
@PersistenceUnit(unitName = "myproj-ejbPU")
private EntityManagerFactory emf;
private EntityManager getEntityManager() {
return emf.createEntityManager();
public void save(UserProfile userprofile) throws Exception {
EntityManager em = getEntityManager();
try {
utx.begin();
em.joinTransaction();
em.persist(userprofile);
utx.commit();
catch (Exception ex) {
try {
System.out.println(ex.toString()); ---------------> prints java.lang.IllegalStateException: Operation not allowed
utx.rollback();
throw new Exception(ex.getLocalizedMessage());
catch (Exception e) {
throw new Exception(e.getLocalizedMessage());
finally {
em.close();
}This is what is seen in glassfish server log:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Operation not allowed.
java.lang.Exception: Operation not allowed.
javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: java.lang.Exception: Operation not allowed.

at com.sun.rave.web.ui.appbase.faces.ActionListenerImpl.processAction(ActionListenerImpl.java:91)
Please help me. I am totally stuck here. I am new to both jsf and ejbs. And i was referring this link http://www.packtpub.com/article/Building-JSF-EJB3-Applications
Thanks,
blue_devThanks for having a look at it.
I tried this: System.out.println(ex.getCause()); , but it only prints null.
I have pasted part of my glassfish server log which is quite big. I am not able to figure out the root cause of this problem. But my transaction object "utx" is causing this, i guess. Maybe this server log can give some clues.

Session block java.lang.IllegalStateException
hello all
i had developed a jsp but it gives the following error
session block java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot call sendRedirect() after the response has been committed
shd i paste code here?
regards and tanks in advance
hemaThe error is fairly self explanatory.
"Cannot call sendRedirect() after the response has been committed "
Once you start sending a response, you can't suddenly change your mind. JSP pages have a "buffer" to give you some leeway. The default buffer size is 8kb.
The response is committed when the buffer is flushed. This happens when:
- the buffer gets full
- you explicitly call flush()
There are two possible solutions
1 - Make sure all forward/redirects happen as close to the top of the page as possible. This means they have a good chance of happening before the buffer gets full
2 - make the buffer larger <%@ page buffer="16kb" %>
Also after you do a forward/redirect, then make sure you return directly after it. Just because you call redirect, doesn't mean the page stops executing.
Cheers,

JDBC + MySQL : "Operation Not Allowed After ResultSet Closed"
I have a very short piece of code. I use one connection to the database. I execute a query, get back a lot of rows, then iterate through the result set and for each row I get some information and then perform an insert into a different table.
The problem is that the big result set I am iterating through keeps closing sometime during the first iteration. Why? I am using three different statements:
1) Statement 1 is for the main query I want to iterate through
2) Statement 2 is for a quick lookup I perform (on a different table) for each item in the iteration.
3) Statement 3 is for the Insert statement which I perform for each item in the iteration. Again, I insert into a different table and I use "executeUpdate"
Given the I have three different statements and I am working with three different tables, why does my main result set that I am iterating through keep closing on me?
Here is the error I am getting:
java.sql.SQLException: Operation not allowed after ResultSet closed

at com.mysql.jdbc.ResultSet.next(ResultSet.java:2468)

Thanks for your help.I have a very short piece of code. I use one
connection to the database. I execute a query, get
back a lot of rows, then iterate through the result
set and for each row I get some information and then
perform an insert into a different table.Sounds like a classic case of making Java do what the database was made to do.
I'd bet you can do this in a single INSERT with a SELECT in the database in one network roundtrip. The "quick lookup" might be a JOIN or a sub-SELECT. When you do a query, bring N rows back to the middle tier, then do an INSERT for each row that you retrieve it means (N+1) network roundtrips if you don't batch your INSERTs. I'd have a SQL expert give your code a look.
The problem is that the big result set I am iterating
through keeps closing sometime during the first

Given the I have three different statements and I am

UIX 2.1.7: java.lang.IllegalStateException
Hi all,
we have an UIX page that shows a BC4J view object and offers to export the VO data to PDF. When the user clicks a button, the page is submitted and the UIX event handler uses a 3rd party library to create a byte array containing the PDF data. Still in the event handler, we retrieve the HttpServletResponse from the BajaContext and write the PDF data into the response's output stream.
So far so good. However, each time we do this, the following exception is thrown:

Usually, we ignore the exception, because it only appears in the server log and the browser receives and displays the PDF document anyway. However, when it reaches a certain size, the server appends the exception trace to the servlet response and the PDF becomes corrupt.
Has anyone an idea how to suppress the exception? Is this the preferred way to write dynamically created data to the response without the indirection of creating a temporary file and downloading it?
Thanks a lot for any hint!
Markus.Hi Markus -
I believe the solution is to use oracle.cabo.servlet.util.RedirectUtils.getResponseCompletePage() to retrieve that Page that you will return from your event handler. This method returns a special Page that tells UIX to not render any additional content.

I try to migrate a Oracle iAS webservice to WebLogic 11g by just deploying the ear on WLS.
This results into the following exception: Who can help fixing this error?

waiting for your immediate responseHi Junaid,
Your code can be work correctly on different servers or with other records but it can not be handled with buffer or autoflush,
I had same problem a few weeks ago. And lastly I had to control before printing any output. My application was working on WebSphere but not on Tomcat, so it is general problem.
The only way if you have to put some output before sending redirect:
When you want to redirect the page, write window.location = ... (javascript code).
When page is loaded automatically will be redirected to the page you want. But of course it is a bit slow.
Good Luck,
isturk. -

Java.lang.IllegalStateException: cannot resize buffer
I am running Bea Weblogic 7.0.0 on Sun Solaris 2.8. I see the following error
message appearing in the weblogic server logfile:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: cannot resize buffer: 60 bytes have already been
written
Does anyone know what is causing this or a solution to this problem?
Looks like you are trying to resize the buffer after writing body content to the
response. So resize the buffer before outputting anything to the PrintWriter :)
Thanks
