Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError without ResultSet

Hi everyone,
I am getting a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when I call a Stored Procedure in Microsof SQL Server...
This procedure reads lot of tables to process the data and insert in another table...The process is HUGE in the SQL Server....The SQL Server runs in another computer...
Here are part of my java code:
     Connection conn = ResourceManager.getConnection();
     CallableStatement cs = conn.prepareCall("{call sp_FillLinks(?,?,?,?)}");
     cs.setString(1, banda);
     cs.setInt(2, spNtcId);
     cs.registerOutParameter(3, Types.INTEGER);
     cs.registerOutParameter(4, Types.INTEGER);
     cs.executeUpdate();
You can see that there's not exists ResultSet occuping the virtual memory...
But when i look at the Task Manager, the memory used by the java.exe process oscillates until to blow up the heap size that i have configured with -mx512m ...
I tested it with two JDBC drivers (Microsof and UNA2000)....and the problem persists...
Well, The question is ...Why the java are ocupping memory if the work is
being made by the SQL Server ??...I searched the forums but dind't find the answer I need

Do you know how can I make that Stored procedure doesnt return ResultSets..??
Or..What instruction in SQL return ResultSet...?
Where can I find more about the relation betwen SQL and Java ResultSets..?
For example in this StoreProcedure...I use :
INSERTS ..
UPDATES ..
CURSORS .. (CREATE, OPEN, FETCH, CLOSE, DEALLOCATE )
SELECT ..
BUT ONLY IN THIS FORM:
     SELECT @DetLinkNSeqDet = NSeqDet,
@DetLinkPesoStnDw = PesoStnDw
     FROM SpDetLinks
     WHERE      Banda = @Banda AND
          SpNtcId = @SpNtcId AND
          NSeqCab = @CabLinkNSeqCab AND

    Part of the HS_ERR_PID says:

    Does that mean you are running CF8 without updater1 applied? If updater1 was there I would expect JVM 1.6.0_04. Give that is correct you could apply updater1 and once that is done even update the JVM to a more current version. I see Java Dev Kit 1.6.0_23 is current, I have successfully used CF8 with 1.6.0_22.
    There might be some interesting detail in the coldfusion-out.log file which likely is in [CF]\runtime\logs or [Jrun]\logs pending server or multiserver.

    I've got an error similar to Isaac_Sunkes' 'FB 4.7 iOS packaging - Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError',
    but the causes are not related to what he discovered, corrupt image or other files, I'd exclude bad archive contents in my project.
    I'm using Flash Builder 4.7 with Adobe AIR 3.6 set into an Apache Flex 4.9.1 SDK;
    HW system is:
    iMac,    2,7 GHz Intel Core i5,    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3,    NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 512 MB,    OS X 10.8.2 (12C3103)
    The Flash project consists in an application with a main SWF file which loads, via ActionScript methods, other SWF in cascade.
    I've formerly compiled and run the application on an iPad 1, IOS 5.0.1 (9A405), but got on the device the error alert:
    "Uncompiled ActionScript
    Your application is attempitng to run
    uncompiled ActionScript, probably
    due to the use of an embedded
    SWF. This is unsupported on iOS.

    Then I changed the FB compiler switches, now are set to:
    -locale en_US
    -swf-version=19
    Please note that without the switch    -swf-version=19     the application is compiled correctly and the IPA is sent to the device
    and I can debug it, but iOS traps secondary SWF files and blocke the app usage, as previously told.

    I've tried to change the Java settings on FB's eclipse.ini in MacOS folder,

    but results are the same.

    I solved this. It turns out the app icons were corrupt. After removing them and replacing them with new files this error went away.

  • One app service getting "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"

    We are running a commercial app on WebLogic 9.2. Two physical servers with 5 application processes running on each in a single cluster. on the server in question, we have 5.5 gigs of free ram at the moment and still getting the message below.
    We have 10 app servers and one is getting this message. the full text of it is:

    I dug back through the logs and found it started a couple of weeks ago. I have been able to log into this app server without issue.
    Something else I have noticed is that the total heap size for all the app services have shrunk from the initial value of 1.5G - they have all dropped down into the 500 meg range. Is this normal? Why has this one not increased the size of the heap if it is running out of memory?
    I could restart the service for this app server but I would not know the cause and since it is a production server where I am not recieving complaints, I am hesitant to go through the res tape to do a re-start.
    Any information or past experience with this type issue is greatly appreciated.

  • Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError (Microsoft SQL Server JDBC driver)

    Hi everyone,
    I am getting a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when performing a simple query to a database. The query produces only one row (and will always produce only one row). However, the statement that produces the second column in the resultset is very long (>256) characters, so could that be it?
    Also, I am executing thousands of SQL statements with no difficulty. I have double-checked that I am cleaning up all of my database resources, so I don't think that this is it. Do I have to do anything else besides closing the statement and resultset?
    There is no stack trace, otherwise I would have posted it :(
    Also, as an aside - is the Microsoft JDBC driver for SQL Server the best one to use? It seems poorly supported and slow at times. Are there any alternatives?

    It is running after thousands of other queries. I'll test to see what happens if I run it by itself.
    I am closing the connection. In fact, I am running all of these statements over the same connection and simply opening and closing resultsets.

    thank you Avi and Bipin for the responce. I have installed Oracle on my RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 box and did an export of the TBL_ORDERS table from my database on Windows Vista . Am not getting this error when running my application on this machine. I get the error on when I run it on windows vista where I have also installed Oracle 10g and running tomcat.
    Yes Avi the ArrayList object is actually getting to big. Its returning more than 100 000 rows. I am using displaytag to do pegination. Any guidelines on how I can increase jvm heap memory on of tomcat?

  • Debugging java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

    We seem to have a java memory leak in our PL/SQL code somewhere. We must have a newXYZ without a freeXYZ or something because we're getting:
    "ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError."
    The problem is in a queue payload processing program. It uses AQ to dequeue an object containing a message type and an XML clob, parses the clob, processes it depending on the payload message type, and optionally creates another XML message for another queue.
    I've reviewed the code in detail and have not found the source of the problem. Is there some trick to find out where the memory leak is occurring?

    I find the solution to this problem.
    In the LODConfig.xml file I have:

    but when I change it to
    <readPartitionFromBlob>true</readPartitionFromBlob>

    The application starts without the obove mentioned error.

  • CFML gateway : java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

    I though that CFML gateways were designed for long running
    tasks, but my tests tends to show the opposite :
    whatever I do, it always crash with a
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    I made a mass emailing gateway, following the CDFJ article (
    june 2005,
    volume 7, issue 6 : the asynchronous CFML gateway)
    that is to say :
    - a classic cfm page that defines the needed struct
    (arguments for the gateway cfc) then a call to the gateway.
    - the gateway cfc is very basic : it makes a query to
    retrieve email adresses from a database then loop over the query
    and for each adress send an email.
    I use cfoutput query + a cfmail for each email because i need
    to make a bit of other things in the loop (every 100 email sent i
    made another "update" query to keep an information of what email
    were sent.
    I have about 150,000 emails to send but plan to send more
    (1,000,000. I'm not a spammer, all adresses are opted-in).
    The first time it crashed around 25,000 emails.
    I tried to maximize the JVM settings (maxperm, maxheap, ...
    to 512MB then 1024MB), it then crashed around 55,000, but whatever
    I do it still crashs before the end of the task. The server is a
    dual xeon 3.0 ghz with 2 GB of RAM and is running Coldfusion 7.0.1
    (updater 2) on windows 2003 std.
    I also replace the cfmal tag by cffile tag (for each adress i
    write then delete a small file, to simulate activity without really
    sending tons of emails
    ... and remove the "every 100 loops update a
    counter" query... it still crashs (but around 360,000 loops).
    Just in case, I tried the cfsetting timeout in the cfc, the
    timeout in the struct passed to the cfc... no effect.
    So I'm a bit confused about the aibility to handle long
    running tasks...
    The exception.log files contains :

    probably several way to handle this. here's one:
    one asynch gateway, one CFC, pass in query conditions &
    let it work (do the
    query, send the mail). instead of one monster loop of 500k,
    maybe 10 of 50k
    would work better. it's all the same to the user/main app--it
    hands off the
    processing to the gateway & goes on to do other things.
    you can easily call the
    gateway 10x in the main app, since everything's happening in
    the gateway it's
    very fast as far as the user/main app is concerned.
    i'm not sure what your UPDATE query is actually used for but
    you could easily
    hand-off parsing send logs, etc. to an asynch gateway (could
    even be the same
    one that's running the email, you can specify a different CFC
    to use) to handle
    that. or if you really wanted to get "fancy" have a look at
    sean's concurrency

    together (cf can melt down SMS aggregators fairly easily). so
    having more than 1

  • Roguelike / java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

    I'm currently working on a Java RogueLike.
    Each level is stored in a Vector grid[][]=new Vector[gridsize][gridsize]
    I wonder why i cannot use gridsize greater than approximatly 230X230 without getting an OutOfMemoryError.
    It appears to occur during the level (current environnement) generation.
    During this generation a lot of Objects are created and stored in the grid.
    What is the general meaning of the java.lang.OutOfMemoryError ?
    What kind of memory is it ? (it doesn't seem to be the RAM)

    230*230*(8 bytes/reference)/1024/1024 = 0.2MB, which isn't much.
    But this is a 2D array of Vectors, which can hold other references. So as you create Objects and add their references to the Vector, each one is eating up memory and expanding the size of your grid. You'll need to profile this app to see where all these Objects are coming from.
    I'd think about why you have to add them to this grid. It guarantees that none of the Objects you've added will ever be garbage collected, so your memory requirements will only grow with time. Unless you have a way of removing Objects from the grid when you're done with them, it's only a matter of time before you get an OutOfMemoryError.

    I am trying to get data from tables and save this information in XML files. I am using XML SQL utility into a Java program.
    The problem is that I have a big table with a LONG data type and when the program try to get the data it shows an error :
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    I checked if the LONG data was the problem, I put a condition in the SQL instruction. The LONG data is saved in XML file. I think that the problem is the result of my query
    "select * from mytable"
    it is too big
    Somebody knows if I can use a CURSOR or something like that to save ALL the records.

    I'd recommend using the XML SQL Utility version 2.1.0 Beta's new support for producing a SAX2 event stream for a query.
    This will let your SAX2 ContentHandler incrementally handle each <ROW> element and it's children without incurring any memory overhead.

    Hi Tlwi and Marc,
    Im facing the same error in my environment. This is an Oracle Application Server which hosts a J2EE envionment. The application works fine without any issues, but all of a sudden the following error comes up and stalls the application. I have to restart the conatiner to handle the situation, but this is not the solution.
    Based on my searching it reveals that this error does not mean that the jvm is running out of heap space instead it uses some memory outside the heap to unzip the zip files.
    Can you let me know on the solution that you had applied or what can be done to fix this as i have enough heap space.
