Java ME support on Linux on OMAP evaluation board

Hi,
I have a proprietary Linux OS ported OMAP board.I want to write and run Java ME applications on it.
Can anyone tell me how do i start?
How to know if it supports java or not...if not, is there any way i can do...?

Get an open source JVM. JamVM is a good choice. Compile it. Install it on your board. Run java apps. Alternately, one of the blackdown ports of the SUN JVM might run.

I've installed it and got it running with the SLES VMWare Version George pointed me to in this [Forum Topic|Where to download SLES10 SP1 SAP Version?;. It seems that the default License is already expiered and the server stops after 30 minutes. I tried to get a License Key from https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap/bc/bsp/spn/minisap/minisap.htm but there is no selection for the Instance Name CTB. Has anyone tried this Trial Version before?

  • Status update on TrayIcon support on Linux

    I am hoping that somebody can give me a brief summary of the plans and expectations for improved support -- if any -- for the TrayIcon support in Linux. Specifically, support for the Gnome 3.6+, Unity and KDE environments.
    I'm very cognizant of the difficulties that this support presents. I've had a number of discussions on the Gnome lists on this topic as the latest changes to Gnome in release 3.6 have completely broken the TrayIcon support in OpenJDK and the Oracle JDK. Not to surprising as they completely rewrote the notification manager support in the Gnome shell. I've spent some time trolling around on the bug lists and see that there is some work scheduled for release 8 but it is unclear to me how that work is prioritized or what the approach is going to be to support the multitude of Linux window managers. That is, the existing bug reports and supporting comments do not include any detail on planning or approach.
    For my part, I would be quite willing to pick up some of the work to get this going properly. We have a number of "Systray" Java applications that are quite dependent on the functionality, so I'm reasonably motivated to help sort this out. I'm new to JVM development of course, but don't think it is all that challenging from a technical point of view to update the existing support. The biggest challenge is getting the other parties to stabilize their interfaces so there some hope of continuing support through future versions of the JVM and the window managers.

    The ILM Assistant is current out in early adopter release and we hope to have it released before Oracle OpenWorld which is late October. I plan to announce here when it is available.
    There is already extensive functionality in the Oracle Database which can be used for ILM and we plan to continue adding features which will be useful for building ILM systems.

    If the question is actually does Linux support Java, the answer is yes.
    http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux.html
    J2EE on the other hand is 'sort of', you will need to download the J2EE DK from sun.

  • Stability of Removable Media support in Linux?

    Hey all, I'd previously thought support for removable media in linux was very good, and everthing I've used has been detected and mounted correctly and such, however I have experienced some corruption on them, especially on my microSD, as I've recently lost a few photos.
    I'm wondering the current status of the support in linux, is it stable, are there any problems, or is it my configuration?
    I use Thunar+Hal to manage my removable media.
    Thanks

    I have found one "odd" issue with Linux: sometimes it delays writing to some external usb card readers.  It might be an issue with the reader but it seems absent in XP.  I have a kingston multi card reader.  I started using it to run my live Arch (Chakra-Live) because it was faster than an ide sd card adapter (odd); however, if I saved my overlay, the drive would show little activity while it was using squashfs on the overlay, and right at the end, the reader light would start flashing but the machine would shut down while the light was still going... and it always botched the save and lost data.  It only happened with the external reader; if the card was mounted on the internal reader on my eee-box, or in the ide adapter, it was fine.
    Do make sure you do unmount / safely remove the drive, and maybe wait a few seconds.  I know my sandisk micromate has no light, so there is no way of telling if has stopped or not.

  • Why Apple does not offer support for linux?

    We all know the history of Apple. It clearly shows a trend to be open source, excepting for the licenses they share with Microsoft. In my personal case, I love open source because it has solved several of my problems. Just to share this with everyone, I am the network manager of a educational institution and I used to have my servers running on windows platform. Since we used to buy it all from Microsoft, they would give us free software for or labs, software like Visual Studio. They even assigned us engineers to plan everything for our servers, free of cost. Guess what? It was a disaster. We had our database destroyed by an external attack. We were “lucky” to have Microsoft in our servers and in our firewalls.
    We had to take action, so I decided to switch to Debian, and to use IPCOP (a great dedicated firewall, if there is anyone interested, the link is: http://ipcop.org/ , please note, I am NOT affiliated with them, and I will receive no compensation or benefit if you chose to access it or not ). Both open source. The result, no external attack has been able to pass trough. After that, we switched most* of our e-learning platforms to open source, and guess what? We are saving over 60,000 yearly just in software. So for those who are looking for a good way to get good security without loosing an eye, try open source.
    Now back to the point, I do not fully support any operative system. They all have their good features, or at least they should. The ones I know, are because I use them. My home network is composed by computers running in five different versions of Linux, two running in Mac OS X Tiger, and some others running in XP pro. My main computer is running in Ubuntu, and is really sad to see that there is no software from apple available for Linux. That is honestly the worst part of Linux, having no iTunes or QuickTime available. No way to see multimedia in the web, etc. A suggestion for apple would be, give support for Linux, there are a lot of us wanting the same.

    Apple makes software and hardware. Therefore they
    offer a total solution. Now they even can have
    windows xp running on their hardware. Making a
    version of mac os to run on linix isn't practically.
    Under a mac is unix and you can run unix software
    with the mac so you could do ever thing you are
    doing with a mac.
    I did not know Linux was one type of computer, like Mac...
    Next topic, If I was willing to pay for it, this thread would not exist, because I can actually use a commercial software to adapt the windows web plug ins to Linux... If I was in charge of Apple, I would propose to develop free software support of my products, - plug ins and so - to other operative systems... But of course, even if I did, it would not be up to me. It would have to pass trough several layers of bureaucracy, and it would take a lot of time to be approved or rejected.
    Anyway, the main issue is, the three most important OS's are Windows, Linux, and Mac. And that can't be denied. Now you can even run Windows in a Mac PC, and vice versa... besides being fancy, what else could I do with a Mac PC using Windows, when I can build a machine able to run Windows for less than 300 bucks? OK if you want to try a Mac in a i386 or a x86... but I still rather to be the proud owner of a PowerMac G5 than the owner of a Pentium 4 / AMD using Mac OS.
    Also, I thought it would be fun to see the reactions and opinions of other people with this topic, hence, I was not expecting anyone from Mac to read it, and really do something about it, because I know they won't.

  • Java Not Displaying Correctly - Linux

    When I run a Java JAR file in linux, the program loads up fine but I cannot see anything. All I do see is the outline to the GUI and a bunch of grey inside. If I click on the X I can partially see the popup asking If I am sure and thats it. Not sure what is going on, I have tried it with different versions of java, jre and jdk. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    If you are using swing component. Then you require javaplugin 1.3 above is required in your browser. Check your browser if you are openning the GUI in netscape of linux you will be having this problem because netscape 4.7 by default will be having javaplugin 1.1.5 it will not allow you to execute GUI. So you need to update the plugin to 1.3 above. I think your problem will be solved once you change your plugin.

  • Java usb support for  windows

    Hello All
    I do no know if this is the right place to post this topic, but does anyone know of an api that provides usb support for windows. I was looking a jusb, but the documentation says it only has support for linux. So far the best I have found is Mr Stahl's thesis which provides very limited support for windows. I was wondering if there was anything more stable (free or not)

    Hi,
    Im trying to connect 2 computers using USB or Parallell port. On one computer I want to install a printer (regular windows printer) that prints through either USB or the Parallell port. On the other computer I want to listen on the Parallell port/USB port and receive the input and write it to a file.
    Does anyone have a some sample code to do this? I've tried the following code (rxtx) but it cant find more than 2 ports (one parallel and one serial - no USBs even though I have 5 USB ports). Since I could only find the USB I tried to listen on the Parallell port. Problem is that I dont receive any data.
    <---THE CODE--->
    Enumeration port_list = gnu.io.CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers();
    while (port_list.hasMoreElements ()) {
    CommPortIdentifier port_id = (CommPortIdentifier)port_list.nextElement ();
              if(port_id.getPortType () == CommPortIdentifier.PORT_PARALLEL) {
                   System.out.println("Found port "+port_id.getName()+ "id "+port_id);
                   CommPort commPort = port_id.open("",2000);
                   InputStream is = commPort.getInputStream();
                   byte buffert[]=new byte[1024];
              int len;
              System.out.println(">>>>>>>>len "+is.read(buffert));
              while((len=is.read(buffert))==-1)
                   Thread.sleep(500);
                   is = commPort.getInputStream();

    Hi,
    no, that doesn't work because java unlike c++ does not
    have the comma operator ",". So you need to declare
    the 2nd variable in the body of the loopNot strictly correct - its true that it won't work in this case, but false that Java doesn't recognise the comma.
    If your two variables were of the same type you could use something like
    for (int i = 0, k = 10; i < k; i++)
    However, the initialisation must take place in a single statement, so you can't use multiple types
