Java problem: Cache

***UNI ASSIGNMENT***
I'm not asking for this to be solved for me, far from it.
Due to my poor performance elsewhere I need to score high on this help get me through to the next year of the course. For those who read my post about my personal issues you'll maybe understand.
Anyway I've got my lecture notes covering caches etc...but I have no idea where to start on this, I've racked my brains but I'm still really confused, I've googled it as well and still got no idea. can someone point me in the right direction so I can solve this problem.
Anyone who helps (not solves!!!) I will seriously mail you tea and crumpets or if the sound of crumpets scares you (as with some people) Cookies or some other baked good will have to do.
PROBLEM
You are to construct a program that manages a 0.25 KB cache.
(That is,data upto 256 Bytes can be stored in the cache.)
Cache can be organised in any one of two ways:
Direct Mapped, or
Fully associative.
The program takes address references in the range 0 .. 1023
and determines whether a given address reference is a hit or miss.
It also computes the Miss rate every time a miss is encountered
and at the end displays the overall Miss rate and the contents of the cache.
For displaying the cache contents, you may represent the memory
content at address X simply as MX. You should assume that a cache block
holds 8 Bytes and, where necessary, employ the LRU scheme for block replacement.
The only idea I've had about this is creating several variables each a byte and then processing all the data through an array of bytes and then use a loop to working out whether its a hit or miss etc...
There is some test data but I don't think its really any help.
Thanks for at least reading!

Anyway I've got my lecture notes covering caches etc...but I have no idea where to start on this, Then you need to talk to your instructor or engage a private tutor. These forums are not conducive to the "I have no idea where to start" situation.
Anyone who helpsIt's difficult for anybody here to help if you don't show some work and ask a more specific question.
I'm not trying to discourage you, only to be realistic about which resources are appropriate for which kind of help.

    Everything works fine but the cache distribution between different JVM:s.

  • My Upgrading Java Applets Cache won't finish

    I had to reinstall Java 6.0 and each time I try to run something requiring Java, it doesn't load. All I get is a box stating Upgrading Java Applets Chache, it runs about half way and then quits. I am getting very frustrated after working on this for 2 days.
    It says "Please wait while your stored Java Applets are updated for Java SE 6". Runs for about 20 secs and then stops and the box disappears. Does anybody have any suggestions? I am not very computer savvy so please explain in simple terms.
    Thanks

    Hi
    I had the exact same problem. took me days to find the solution, hope it works for you.
    Click on the START button bottom left on the screen, Then look for the CONTROL PANEL button and click, (this should bring up lots of icons for programmes) on some computers its under themes and sttings I think. Click on the JAVA icon this brings up a CONTROL PANEL. Click on SETTINGS at the bottom, then click DELETE FILES. (this took a while to complete on my computer) Just to make sure after you've done this bring up the JAVA CONTROL PANEL again but this time click on ADVANCED. Then at the bottom theres is Miscellaneous, click on this and there should be JAVA QUICK STARTER with a box ticked next to it, Click on the tick and get rid of it then click on OK..
    Try a website that uses Java. the cache box might appear again but just hit cancel. When I tried this i was able to use Java again.
    Hope it works

    Help please.

    Hey Eli,
    It looks like a memory issue. It would be good if you could provide more lines from db2diag.log file.
    Please make sure that DB2 configuration complies with the default suggested. Below link would help you understand better.
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v9r5/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.db2.luw.qb.server.doc/doc/t0008238.html
    More over set the ulimit for virtual memory and maximum memory size to unlimited in order to maximize the use of your current physical memory, after that restart DB2.
    Please let us know if issue gets resolved.
    Cheers!!!

  • JTable displays string in wrong order : my code problem or Java problem ?

    I have the following code that displays data in a JTable, most of the time it works fine, but I've realized when I have a cell with values like : "Snowboarding"+"[123456789]"
    It would display it as : [Snowboarding[123456789
    For a string like : "Chasing toddlers"+"<123456789>"
    It would display it as : <Chasing toddlers<123456789
    It not only moved the last bracket to the front, but also changed its direction from "]" to "[" and from ">" to "<"
    Is there anything wrong with my code ? Or is this a Java problem ?

    * TableSorter is a decorator for TableModels; adding sorting functionality to a supplied TableModel. TableSorter does not store
    * or copy the data in its TableModel; instead it maintains a map from the row indexes of the view to the row indexes of the
    * model. As requests are made of the sorter (like getValueAt(row, col)) they are passed to the underlying model after the row numbers
    * have been translated via the internal mapping array. This way, the TableSorter appears to hold another copy of the table
    * with the rows in a different order.
    * <p/>
    * TableSorter registers itself as a listener to the underlying model, just as the JTable itself would. Events recieved from the model
    * are examined, sometimes manipulated (typically widened), and then passed on to the TableSorter's listeners (typically the JTable).
    * If a change to the model has invalidated the order of TableSorter's rows, a note of this is made and the sorter will resort the
    * rows the next time a value is requested.
    * <p/>
    * When the tableHeader property is set, either by using the setTableHeader() method or the two argument constructor, the table
    * header may be used as a complete UI for TableSorter. The default renderer of the tableHeader is decorated with a renderer
    * that indicates the sorting status of each column. In addition, a mouse listener is installed with the following behavior:
    * <ul>
    * <li>
    * Mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and advances the sorting status of that column through three
    * values: {NOT_SORTED, ASCENDING, DESCENDING} (then back to NOT_SORTED again).
    * <li>
    * SHIFT-mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and cycles the sorting status of the column through the same
    * three values, in the opposite order: {NOT_SORTED, DESCENDING, ASCENDING}.
    * <li>
    * CONTROL-mouse-click and CONTROL-SHIFT-mouse-click: as above except that the changes to the column do not cancel the statuses of columns
    * that are already sorting - giving a way to initiate a compound sort.
    * </ul>
    * <p/>
    * This is a long overdue rewrite of a class of the same name that first appeared in the swing table demos in 1997.

    * <p/>
    * <p/>
    * <ul>
    * <li>
    * Mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and advances the sorting status of that column through three
    * values: {NOT_SORTED, ASCENDING, DESCENDING} (then back to NOT_SORTED again).
    * <li>
    * SHIFT-mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and cycles the sorting status of the column through the same
    * three values, in the opposite order: {NOT_SORTED, DESCENDING, ASCENDING}.
    * <li>
    * CONTROL-mouse-click and CONTROL-SHIFT-mouse-click: as above except that the changes to the column do not cancel the statuses of columns
    * that are already sorting - giving a way to initiate a compound sort.
    * </ul>
    * <p/>
    * This is a long overdue rewrite of a class of the same name that first appeared in the swing table demos in 1997.

  • Oracle Application Server 10g Java Object Cache

    Hi,
    I am new to Java and looking for a java caching framework and just came across Oracle Application Server 10g Java Object Cache. I am unable to find 11g version of the same. Is it not supported any more?
    Can I use this with weblogic server? Please suggest if any other alternatives.
    Thanks,
    Manoj

    Bump.
    I definitely don't see the same file: C:\dev\jdevstudio10134\javacache\lib\cache.jar in the Oracle JDEV tree. Is there a suggested alternative?

  • Java problems-locking

    i have 10.6 and the latest download of java. I am trying to run Scottrader Streaming quotes and it locks up constantly/ Tech support suggest it is a java problem and i have a bad instalition of jave which i do not understand as software update installed it for me. the problem is that the java application will suddenly stop running/ any ideas? scottrade suffested reinstalling java. ig that is needed how do i unstall java?

    If Java functions at all, then it is not apt to be an issue with the Java installation. There's really no such thing as a "bad installation of Java". Java will run or it will crash. Lock-ups are generally the result of application errors or communication errors (e.g., it's waiting on a responsed from a server that never comes).
    You can reinstall Java using Pacifist and your restore DVD. I doubt that it will be worth your time, however.

  • Java Object Cache have wired behaviour

    HI,
    I am trying to get my Oracle Java Object Cache working but I am observing some really stange behaviour which has stop it working. So any help will be really useful (10.1.3 and 10.1.2.0.2). I will explain:
    Progammaticly I have setup a parent region call 'DatabaseDataCache' and a sub-region call 'country'. In this region I have defined my object call countriesDto' with a Attribuite that has a CaheLoader attached. In my cache loader I connects to a Entity EJB that loads a bunch of DTOs into the cache.
    What is strange is that when i run the unit test on the code (cactus). The cache seems to call the cache loader 3 times consequtively before the EJB will load the data (i know this due to debuging messages)
    Then in the actual implmentation I have the cache setup code of the in the init() of the servlet but again the cache loader doesn't seem to able to call the ejb it requires. Ones the cache is access it trys to call the cache loader and of course the ejb dosn't get called and is returning me a NullPointerError as I am trying to acces the local interface (in the cache loader). This is strange as in the cactus test it actually calls the ejb ok bit only on the third attemp.
    I am abit puzzled with this so any help will be much appreciated.
    Charlie

    I think I have got what you need. The following is the cactus test class that test the getCountries method in my session ejb:
    public class WebinUtilTest extends ServletTestCase {
    private CacheAccess globParCache;
    public void setUp() throws Exception {
    CacheAccess.defineRegion("DatabaseDataCache");
    globParCache = CacheAccess.getAccess("DatabaseDataCache");
    globParCache.defineSubRegion("country");
    Attributes cAtt = new Attributes();
    cAtt.setLoader(new CountryCacheLoader());
    CacheAccess globCountCache = globParCache.getSubRegion("country");
    globCountCache.defineObject("countriesDto", cAtt);
    globCountCache.preLoad("countriesDto");
    globCountCache.close();
    globParCache.close();
    public void testGetCountries() throws Exception{
    WebinUtilLocal wuLoc = HomeFactory.getWebinUtilLocalHome().create();
    String[] countries = wuLoc.getCountries();
    assertTrue(countries.length >0);
    public void tearDown() throws Exception {
    if (globParCache != null){
    CacheAccess gCache = CacheAccess.getAccess("DatabaseDataCache");
    gCache.destroy();
    When I run this test here is the stack trace I am getting (in order):

  • Error Code 16 on Mac with Newly-Installed Yosemite (a Java problem?)

    Like many out there I am unable to use CS6 applications at all after an OS update to Yosemite (in my case from 10.8.5, on my 2012 iMac).  I get an Error 16 message, and a Java problem error message.
    I've read many posts about fixing this issue, including the Adobe gospel very specific to this problem—about changing the permissions in a couple of folders—, which I found here: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/configuration-error-cs5.html   I did exactly as directed and saw no change in the problem.
    I also read that the Java version necessary for CS6 products to run on Yosemite is a boondoggle in itself.  Java 6 is apparently necessary for CS6 products to run, but that version is insecure, and besides, it's old.   Java 8 Build 31 is the current and safe version but it apparently is incompatible with none but the most recently-updated Adobe products.  Several posts on Adobe's support pages suggest a hacky fix for this Java issue, which involves downloading and installing the latest Java version from Oracle, and then creating specifically-named empty folders on one's hard drive within a couple of obscure System/Library/Java folders:
    http://oliverdowling.com.au/2014/03/28/java-se-8-on-mac-os-x/
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/7193884
    I did this too, and again saw no change in the problem.
    Re-installing my CS6 suite has not worked, either.  I receive the same error code message when starting up any of the applications.  At this point I've been forced to go back to my previous operating system, since I am heavily reliant on CS6 to do my work each day.
    I understand that many people are having this trouble after updating to Yosemite, and more than a few posts on these forums indicate this is true even for people like me who've followed Adobe's purported fix that I linked above.  Has anyone in userland or at Adobe found anything lately that could help here?

    uninstall cs6 and clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6).
    update your os, Java for OS X 2014-001
    then install cs6.

  • Installing 9.2.0.4.0 on EL4 - Can't start netca, JAVA problem!!!!

    Dear all,
    Please help with my Java problem. Thanks in advance.
    After successfully installed Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 on EL4, I tried to start netca but I received this error message:
    [oracle@localhost bin]$ ./netca: line 138: /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.4.0/JRE/bin/jre: No such file or directory
    The JRE link at $ORACLE_HOME is as follows:

    .bash_profile as follows:

    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/9.2.0.4.0; export ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_TERM=xterm; export ORACLE_TERM

    CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:$ORACLE_HOME/network/jlib; export CLASSPATH
    LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.6.9; export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
    What do you guys think my problem is?

    I managed to solve this one. For more information you can search the forum with much earlier dates, as far as 2002. I'm very outdated.
    In case you need the solution:
    I tried using java 1.3.1 provided together with the Oracle9iR2 installation Disks instead of 1.1.8.
    1. Delete the JRE link in $ORACLE_HOME
    2. Relink it to 1.3.1 directory
    3. create a jre symbolic link in the bin directory to the .java_wrapper
    4. create another jre symbolic link in the i386/nativethreads directory to the java file
    Good luck

  • Java Object Cache

    With a cache loader, the Java Object Cache automatically determines if an object needs to be loaded into the cache when the object is request.
    Can someone tellme how exactly this works.
    I am trying to get the cache framework to load objects automatically in the cache.
    hwoever unless i explicitly use the CacheAcess.put method. the object is not loaded in the cache.
    Plss lemme knw, how the framework does it automatically.
    Regards,
    Mukta

    Hi Mukta,
    FYI, This discussion forum is all about Web Cache, and not related to Java Object Cache.
    Anyways, to hint you on automatic loading of objects -> use the CacheAccess.preLoad() method.
    You can post this question in a forum related to the Java Object Cache, for better answers.

  • Please help me with two Java problems

    Hello,
    I have 2 Java problems to work on and wondered if someone can help please?
    1. I've created an array, but I have to now create a text file and write a program to read the array from the file. I have no idea where to start the program!
    2.public class SumExample1 {
    /* To determine if a number lies between 1 and 1000
    * @param args the command line arguments
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    int num;
    System.out.print("Enter a number: ");
    num = TextIO.getInt();
    if ((num >=1) && (num<=1000))
    System.out.println("OK");
    else
    System.out.println ("Not OK");
    Ive used a GUI to create some fields and buttons to press. How can I make it perform this little program?
    Many thanks,
    K

    I recommend you read the tutorials on basic (file) IO and Swing (and Event Listeners if you want to make your GUI alive). Perhaps have a look at the Scanner class and BufferedInputStream. That should give you enough to start and write the program yourself. Try working in the command prompt first, should be easier, then once the logic works wrap it in a Swing GUI.
    You can find the tutorials here:
    http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/
    Swing:
    http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/index.html
    Basic IO:

    Hope this helps.

    Getting the error " [java] Problem invoking WLST - java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not find the OffLine WLST class " while building the O2A 2.1.0 PIP. I am using the Design Studio 4.3.2 for building the O2A 2.1.0 PIP. Please let me know how to resolve this issue. Here I am enclosing the log file .

    We have basically the same issue when we try to create the interpreter using the embedded method..
    I was able to use the interpreter embedded in a java client as long as the weblogic jars were located in a weblogic install if I tried to use them from a maven repository no luck at all...
    All of this worked easily in 9.2 now in 10.3 it seems more error prone and less documented.
    I have seen close to a 100 posts on issues related to this so is there a document which outlines specifics....
    We / I have used weblogic now for almost 10 years and moving from 8.1 to 9.2 was painful and we expected the move from 9.2 to 10.3 not to be soo bad but its proving to be as painful if not more painful than moving to 9.2. We seem to spend a good bit of our time working around issues in the next new release that were not in the previous one..
    Any help would be appreciated I think we will open a support case but even that is more painful...
    Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    PS: We confirmed that all jars in the startweblogic classpath were in the startup. The server we have the embedded wlst instance is a managed server and we are using the component in a war... Are there any restrictions which we are unaware of.
    Error we get is

  • Java DNS Caching

    I have my Java DNS cache expiring every five minutes by setting it up in java.security. My question is - what happens when the DNS server is unreachable, ie. down ? Does Java retain what it already had in the event that it cannot reach a DNS server to update from, or does the domain that was being accessed become unavailable ?

    Thank you for your response. At least now I know it isn't something that I misconfigured. It is interesting that if I add this line to obj.conf, the statistics function appears to work, even though according to the admin interface DNS caching is disabled: (I got this from the help system.)
    Init cache-size="1024" expire="1200" fn="ip-dns-cache-init"
    The original entry put there by the admin interface is:
    Init cache-size="1024" expire="1200" negative-dns-cache="yes" fn="host-dns-cache-init"
    I do not have a Sun support contract. Is there a procedure to report this bug, or have you already done that?
