Java using MS Access

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what this error means?
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]
Operation must use an updateable query
I have searched for this error but can't seem to find what it means.
Thanks

We can't tell, either, since you didn't post any code.
Sounds like you called the wrong method on a java.sql.Statement, but who can tell?

    <snip>The subject of this forum is Oracle databases. How does your problem relate to that subject?
    Two bits of advice:
    1) Make sure you ask questions in a forum related to your problem.
    2) If you want to be taken seriously as a professional, drop the MS IM Speak and use the language of the forum. In this forum it is English, which is successfully used by many people for whom English is far from their native language.

  • Help me which JNDIFactory to use to access EJB from a java class of JAR

    I am confused in understanding the different JNDI factories
    RMIInitialContextFactory, ApplicationInitialContextFactory and ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory
    And the different namespaces like global, container local and component local.
    Especially is there any relationship between the JNDI factories and the namespaces?
    Or are they related to the deployment descriptors.
    Because in application specific deployment descriptors (orion-ejb-jar.xml), we just map the JNDI location with the object (or its reference from ejb-jar.xml). We dont specify it can be accessed from this factory or that.
    Shall we access an EJB from using any JNDI factory?
    Specifically, I am stuck with what Factory to use to access an EJB from a Java class in a library (jar). The JAR is packaged with the EAR which contains the EJB Jar that I am trying to access.
    THANK YOU

    Ed,
    As Robin said, I think you need code similar to this:
    Context c = new InitialContext();
    Object o = c.lookup("java:comp/env/Name");where Name is the name of your EJB as it appears in the "ejb-jar.xml"
    deployment descriptor XML file.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • When using Java Wizard with Firefox 3.6.23 on a Mac OS X 10.6.8 it keep getting an error message: "The Java Wizard cannot run. Please configure your browser to allow Java applets to access the filesystem." Have NO idea how to fix this problem.

    When trying to upload files I received the following error: "The Java Wizard cannot run. Please configure your browser to allow Java applets to access the filesystem."

    If the problem is with a site that is hosted using MOVEit DMZ by Ipswitch, please notify the site owner of the issue and ask them to apply the patch that is available on the support site to resolve the issue.
    This is a better resolution than downgrading your version of Java that was updated due to security issues.

    The strange thing is that I can connect to my server if I run the client on
    NT4 !!!
    I solved the problem by modifying my local java.policy file with the
    following settings:
    // Test with HTTP tunnelling. 18.10.2001
    [email protected]
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "proxyHost", "read";
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "proxyPort", "read";
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "http.proxyHost", "read";
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "http.proxyPort", "read";
    permission java.net.SocketPermission "*","connect,resolve";
    // Test with HTTP tunnelling. 18.10.2001
    [email protected]
    Have someone else experienced the same or similar problems ?
    How can I make sure that the client gets access to read the properties
    http.proxyHost, http.proxyPort, proxyHost and proxyPort without telling the
    users of the client application to modify their java.policy files ?
    Any leads will be greatly appreciated !
    Regards

    This is in reply to the first post. I don't know what happened after.

    If you read the above trace from bottom to top, it shows none of you classes, only classes from that Eclipse library, which seems to loadLibrary() a native DLL. In order to do this, it needs to call System.getProperty( "sun.arch.data.model" ). This call is not allowed from un unsigned applet. So I guess you need to sign the applet and this problem will go away. Many other problems may follow. Just read very very carefully all the related documentation, which I did not.

  • "Connection is closed" closed error while using MS Access database

    We are using MS Access database in our project. Recently the database was upgraded to 2000.
    After upgrading the database, I get the folowing error when getAutoCommit() is called on a connection -
    java.sql.SQLException: Connection is closed
         at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcConnection.validateConnection(Unknown Source)
         at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcConnection.getAutoCommit(Unknown Source)
    The connection is not closed explicity before getAutoCommit() is called, only the statement is closed.
    This error is sporadic and occurs under load scenario only (when a lot of connections are open). Once the error occurs, all the database calls fail then onwards. The error was not occuring before the database was upgraded.
    I suspect the jbdc-odbc driver. The driver might not be compatible with Access2000 database. Under load scenario, it might be closing connections automatically.
    Has anybody faced similar problem before? Where can I find the compatible jdbc-odbc driver? And how to ensure that it is jdbc-odbc driver problem only?
    The database verison - MS Access 2000
    Java version - 1.3.1_01

    can i just point out that there is no support for transactions in Access so I wonder why you are calling autoCommit methods at all...

    Hi friends...
    I've read the last post...
    The problem that I have is as follow....
    1. I have installed on my machine MySQL 5.0 Server running
    1.1 I have a database called "base1"
    1.2 User "root", password "works"
    1.3 I have the following sentence to connect it using JDBC
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/base1", "root", "works");
    More notes:
    - I use the JDBC 5.0
    - My Machine is a Windows XP SP2 Pentium 3.0 512Mb
    and it connects
    but I have this environment to develop applications, now that I want to connect to Production Environment happens the following:
    2 The Production database is mounted on a Linux Server with MySQL 3.2.
    2.1 I change the sentences as follow:
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://192.168.0.7/base1", "user", "password");
    2.3 But a message appears when I run the Java Program:
    java.sql.SQLException:Access denied for user: '[email protected]' (Using password: YES)
    2.4 As you can see it changes the IP Address...
    More notes:- I have the MySQL Query Browser and I got connection.
    - The IP that display the Error Message is my Second IP configurated on my Network Properties.
    - Server is a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz 2Gb Linux Red Hat 3.0
    I leave this case for the spider... I hope that somebady has the solution.
    What is the problem? Why the JDBC doesn't respect the IP that I wrote.

    The Oracle 8.1.6 runs on Win2000, I put the JAR & related zip files in the same machine's IIS webserver.
    Is anyone can help?
    ERic

    Hi Shaji,
    Are you calling a webservice from within an Xacute Query for your applet?  On first glance, it looks like a web service call is being rejected due to security permissions.  If you have a webservice call (or HTTP post/get), can you test it separately with the same credentials as the webpage is using?
    Regards,
    Mike

    ** Error during execution, error code = 134.
    Please help me how to solve this issue.

    I suggest trying to install a different version to confirm the error. Do you have SELinux enabled? It can cause weird errors. You can check the syslog /var/adm/messages to see if there were any SELinux errors.

    Hi All,
    I try to run an applet from Solaris 8 server on some client machine using IE5 and NetScape 6.2 ( I installed JRE 1.4, I also try other JRE versions) but I get the following errors again and agian,
    I even try to use appletviewer on the Solaris Box itself to open the applet but it makes no difference same errors
    could somebody please help or give me a hint how should I start tracing what the problem might be ?
    this applet comes with Solaris Bandwidth Manager as a gui administration tool ( webbased ) it supposed to change the configurations remotly over the web. I asure there is no solaris permission problem exist.
    I use Tomcat on the server side.Installed JDK 1.3 on Solaris 8 with all the default settings.
    i suppose something should be done with java.policy or java.security files i know nothing about java security please at least give me some URL's to find out more about this matter i searched a lot but couldn't find good documents about java default security restrictions

    I dont know, but It may be that an Applet can only access the local machine. ie. If you run the applet on computer A and you want to edit the config on computer B, I do not believe you can. The applet can only talk to Computer A. You would have to:
    1) Run an application on computer A and the applet would tell the application what to change.
    2)Maybe sign the applet in a JAR File
    You will probably have to do #1.

    Hi,
    Please make changes in the java.security files present in the jdk1.3/lib/jre/security/java.security.There you make the changes in the property which gives you the error.See if this helps..

  • A question regarding the limitations of using MS Access.

    Hello everyone,
    my question is not one of a direct comparison between Access, SQL Server and mySQL, but is concerned with how much of JDBC 2.0's functionality I can implement using an Access 2000 database and a type 1 driver.
    Are there area's of JDBC 2.0 that do not work with an Access database. I ask this as I seem to recall from reading Gregory D. Speegle's book - "JDBC: Practical Guide for Java Programmers" that some resultset methods [I think] do not work with Access. Is this correct, and if so which methods are they?
    Thank you for your help.

    access does many things in its own ways which can be
    very different from other databases, one thing is if
    you try to get meta data from the connection objm you
    will fail, as a result, there is no easy way to find
    out all the tables in the database, for example. You are right about this, I forgot it was missing, and if I were to categorize it I would say it' a significant piece that is missing when using Access.
    there
    is no jdbc driver for access, you need to use odbc and
    jdbc. another baad thing is it is single threaded, may
    not be suitable for mutiple users, especially on the
    web. it crashes where other databases ususally wont.
    man, i have some experience with it - bad!Not everyone has had bad experience with Access, your mileage may vary.
    mySQL on the other hand, is a more normal database,
    its speed is as great as oracle, and it is muti
    threaded, great for almost all things, including
    learning databases. it is free, open source...mySQL as fast as Oracle? I'll check with Larry E. and get back to you...
