Java version conflict for LSO

We are implementing SAP Learning Solution (LSO) 300. A requirement to use SAP's test player is to have jre 1.4.2 installed on users workstation. we have problem rolling any version of jre to the whole enterpise because we have a lot of other apps that requires different versions of java. and sun java and microsoft java may have conflict as well. we are wondering how other company handles this problem.
Thanks
Jane Zhou

Hi Guys!
From the SAP side the statement is following: use the predefined version because
we only can support with these JRE component your LSO300.
The Content Player, Test Player, Authoring Environment may work with a lower release as well, but we are unable to support the probable problems occured by this version difference.
I suppose your JRE version is under 1.4.2, do I have right?
I am sorry, that in this case I was unable to provide you a better answer
If you need further help with this landscape (LSO300+ JRE < v1.4.2) let me know and I try to give you hints, tricks!
Best regards,
Zsolt

    Hi,
    I ve installed BO XI R2 in my system.
    While installing I had Java 1.5 in my system.
    Now for some other purposes, I uninstalled Java 1.5 and installed Java1.6.
    I ve also updated the environment variables with new path and class path.
    But now in my Infoview, when I click "modify" link of any of the WebI report, it gets hanged
    (Especially at the stage "Building user interface")
    What could be the problem?
    I heard that BO does not support java versions beyond 1.4 and 1.5.
    Is that true? Or what can be done for that as a solution
    Thanks

    MuthuVadugan,
    We too are experiencing problems with Java 1.6, so our solution was to ask clients to hold off on either upgrading to 1.6 or to uninstall it and use either 1.4 or 1.5.  We've contacted Business Objects concerning this matter and have been informed that SP3 for XI R2 will be the eventual fix.  Working with our account rep, he tells us that SP3 is due out from Business Objects sometime in November.  Our service rep has told us that we could get a pre-release of SP3 sooner, however, this would be provided with no warranties implied, i.e. if it blows up our system that Business Objects will not support until post SP3 official release.  Hope this helps in understanding what's going on and your next steps.

  • Java version checking for IE needed

    Hi, Guys,
    I need to check the currently used java version in IE.
    I used <object> tag
    <object classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" codebase="https://java.sun.com/update/1.5.0/jinstall-1_5_0_12-windows-i586.cab#Version=1,5,0,12" width=10 height=10>
    <param name="codebase" value=".">
    <param name="code" value="HelpMe.class">
    </param>
    </object>
    The expected behavior is that : if currently installed java version is less than 1.5.0.12, a popup window will show.
    but for java 1.5.0_11, the popup window for download does not show up.
    I also tried
    <object classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" codebase="https://java.sun.com/update/1.5.0/jinstall-1_5_0_12-windows-i586.cab#Version=1,5,0_12" width=10 height=10>
    any idea?
    Thanks

    A slightly unrelated observation: when I use the <object> tag, IE 7 with JDK 5 shows this ActiveX warning asking me if I want to let an ActiveX control by Sun run. Since we wanted to minimize spooking out end users with security warnings, we decided to only ever use the <applet> tag which does not cause the (additional) ActiveX warning.

    Good day,

    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_04-b05, mixed mode)

    copy this setting to "eclipse.ini' file int eclipse installtion directory

  • Java version and amount of SAPDATA

    Hi!
    I would like to install SAP Solution Manager on Solaris Sparc 10 Zone (64 Bit) with Oracle.
    Questions:
    1) Which Java version applies for the installation? I have installed 1.4.2.12.
    2) Is that problem that the <sid>adm user exist already on the server?
    Or should I delete these, because thes will be created with SAPINST?
    I run Installation as root-user
    3) How much SAPDATA do I need for the installation. I would abolish to have more than 3 SAPDATA. So I have 3 SAPDATA, each 70 GB. Is that ok?
    Thank you very much!
    regards
    Thom

    Hi Thom,
    1) Which Java version applies for the installation? I have installed 1.4.2.12.
    Answer: Please go through the note 716604, and also 1.4.2_12 version for JDK is fine. You can go with this.
    2) Is that problem that the <sid>adm user exist already on the server?
    Answer : It wont be the problem if it exists,but check the owner and modes as per the guide and change it.
    3. should I delete these, because thes will be created with SAPINST?
    Answer:  Yes,users will be created by SAPINST,but if its already exists, you dont need to delete this. If you dont know the changing of owners or modes for the sidadm user. you can delete, it will create by SAPINST.
    4.I run Installation as root-user
    Answer: Yes. you have to start installation with root user.
    5.3) How much SAPDATA do I need for the installation. I would abolish to have more than 3 SAPDATA. So I have 3 SAPDATA, each 70 GB. Is that ok?
    Answer: SAP recommends 4 sapdata's. The size is depends on how much data you maintain in the system. Try to create SAPDATA4 and distrube the size to all 4 sapdata's.
    Hope you understand this.
    Thanks

  • Vm version of for eclipse with oepe versus wls vm

    I went through some old posts and seem to fnd that both WLS and eclipse need to be started with the same vm ?
    This is a basic question, but my web app is for java5, what problems could I encounter if I try to run the java5 webapp on a WL server running on java 6
    thankyou

    both WLS and eclipse need to be started with the same vm That is incorrect. Java version requirements for Eclipse and OEPE are independent from java version you build your app to and are independent from java version that WLS is running with.
    You can target your app to Java 1.4, run OEPE with Java 1.6 and deploy to WLS that runs on Java 1.5.
    This is a basic question, but my web app is for java5, what problems could I
    encounter if I try to run the java5 webapp on a WL server running on java 6 thankyouThe tooling will help make sure that you don't get a configuration that will not work. It is perfectly fine to have an app that targets java version that's older than what WLS running with. Java is backwards compatible and so is WLS.

  • What is the correct Sun Java version for Plus ?

    OK so I am running Version 1.4.2_06 (build 1.4.2_06-b03) for Disco Plus.. Is that the correct version ? I am trying to debug an error (Outstanding Refresh) and I need to eliminate the Java version being the cause:
    Can anyone confirm ? thanks OBX
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.1)
    Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.48.18)

    Discoverer Server - 10.1.2.48.18

    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bi

    Hi OBX
    Yes that is the correct version, at least that's the one that comes out of the box. You can upgrade to later versions but you have to do this both on the server and on the client. One thing that you must not do is allow the client machines to upgrade when the server is still on 1.4.2_06
    I hope this helps

    You should disable Java (if not already done) until either the US Department of Homeland Security, or Oracle, declare it safe and Apple restore the facility. Oracle have released an update said to fix the security flaw, available from here:

  • Java versions for OIM install

    Hi,
    Last time when I installed OIM, everything worked fine, but I was unable to open the workflow manager applet. I think maybe I used the wrong JRE/JDK. Please read below the environment I am using and suggest which Jave version should be used.
    OS: Windows 2003 Server
    Browser: IE
    OIM: 9.1
    Application Server: Weblogic (latest version)
    1. Installing Oracle Weblogic, which JRE to use?
    a> 1.6 Sun Java already shipped with Weblogic
    b> 1.6 Oracle JRockit shipped with Weblogic
    c> any other Java version
    2. Installing OIM Server, in the screen where it asks for Application server information, in the field where it asks the JDK used for application server install, which one to use?
    a> The one I choose above in 1
    b> any other Java version (1.4.2_12 or _15 or something else)
    3. Installing OIM client, when it asks for JRE to use with design console, which Java to use?
    a> Install JRE bundled with OIM
    b> JDK 1.4.2_12 or _15 or any other Java version
    4. Now, when I use the OIM, what should be the Java version that my browser should be configured to launch the Workflow Manager applet?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Harmeet

    The release notes for your oim version contains information about what JRE versions are supported.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/idm_certification_101401.html#BABGBGHI
    Sun JDK 1.6.0_10 or higher JRockit 1.6.0_05 or higher seems to be what you are looking for.
