  • Calling BIP from Oracle Forms: Having Java version problem.

    Hi,
    I tried to call a BIP report through Oracle Forms.
    I followed this PDF.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/xml-publisher/docs/Forms_BIP_v22.pdf
    Problem is, when I run the form, I get this error (copied from the Java Console)
    Oracle JInitiator: Version 1.3.1.22

    I am using Forms Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2.
    JDeveloper Version is 10.1.3.5.0.
    The Forms 10g Java version is 1.4.
    So according to what I discovered on the net, the problem is: My JInitiator is 1.3 using JRE 1.3, BUT my .JAR file is Java 1.5.
    Since we are using the Oracle JVM, ticking “Use JRE 1.5..” in the Advanced tab of the Internet Explorer Options has no effect.
    We cannot upgrade the Oracle JInitiator to a 1.5 since there is no such JInitiator version. JInitiator is available only up to 1.3.1.30.
    What can I do. What if I install Java 1.3 in my machine and re-compile my JAR file with that? Will that work or is there another solution?
    Has anybody encountered this problem?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
    Yes, you need to compile your source files with JDK 1.3 (since JInit 1.3.x.x uses JDK 1.3).
    Other solution would be to use JRE 1.5 (instead of JInitiator).
    Check out [this thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=550563] on how to use JRE1.5

    Hi
    You dont need JInitiator, just downloading and installing either JRE or JDK 1.5 will be enough.
    Another option might be to set the version you want to compile your classes against in JDeveloper. there is a setting in there to specify the java version you want to compile against.
    So are you using the web services from BIP inside Forms?

  • Java 7: Problems launching applets with jars on "file://" location

    Hi,
    We are experiencing a problem when updating our client's JRE from Java6 U 21 up to Java7 U 55.
    We have developed an Applet which is composed by several JAR files. Some of those JARs must be stored in local drive, and the JAR with the main Java class is stored on server.
    Let's supose we have a similar scenario like this:
    https://blahblahbah/bar.jar
    https://blahblahbah/test.html
    C:/foo.jar
    The code of test.html:
    <embed
      archive="file:///C:/foo.jar"
      cache_archive="bar.jar"
    />
    This code works fine on Java 6 and Applet is correctly loaded.
    However, with Java 7 a security exception is raised when trying to load JAR files from "file:///" location during Applet launch:
    java.lang.SecurityException: Permission denied: file:/C:/foo.jar
        at sun.plugin2.applet.Applet2Manager._loadJarFiles(Unknown Source)
    We have tried several tests using a java.policy file which grants all possible permisions:
    grant codeBase "file:/C:/foo.jar" {
        permission java.security.AllPermission;
    grant {
      permission java.security.AllPermission;
    We also tried to low Java's security level to "MEDIUM", with no success.
    We finally only managed to run the Applet if we explicity disable the "Next-Generation Plugin" with Internet Explorer 8. However, that's not a suitable solution, and still does not work with Mozilla family browsers.
    Eventhought with Mozilla browsers is still not working.
    Is there any restrictions in Java 7 that prevents to read jars from being loaded from local drive when launching Applets?
    Thanks in advance,

    Thank you baftos.
    I had read the whole message before posting mine. It's not the same problem. I'm able to run the sample signed applet always having the jar in the same location than the HTML page serving the applet via JNLP:
    <jar href="SignedAppletTest.jar" main="true"/>
    However, the security exception raises when trying to read that jar from local drive:
    <jar href="file://C:/SignedAppletTest.jar" main="true"/>
    ExitException[ 3]java.lang.SecurityException: Permission denied: file://C:/SignedAppletTest.jar
        at sun.plugin2.applet.JNLP2Manager.loadJarFiles(Unknown Source)
    I have even tried to decompile JNLP2Manager class, without seeing anything useful on that loadJarFiles method
    The only way I managed to avoid the problem is unchecking the New Generation Plugin and running the Applet with IE. Not a suitable solution for me at all..

  • Where is i18n.jar in J2sdk1.4.1 ?

    Hello,
    In j2sdk1.3 version, "i18n.jar" used to be in /lib directory. However i found this jar file missing in j2sdk1.4.2 version. Is it replaced by other jar file ?
    I couldn't find any information relating to this in SUN release notes. Can anyone help me on this ?
    Thanks in advance

    I think it's called charset.jar now... or something similar.

  • How to tell what java version classes where compiled?

    Is it possible to get the version of the Java SDK the classes were compiled with from within a Java application? I think about something like:

    For the minimum check, the point is that i get the following exception when i try to run a application that was compiled with/for 1.4 is tried to be started with a 1.3 JRE:

But it seems, that the new classes can't be used ... even though the main() method doesn't use any 1.4 specific API. The JVM rejects the classes just because of the newer class file format versions.

    Yes, it is part of EE not SE. Or you can get it/them from your application server's lib dir (which may or may not be a better choice).

  • Safari locks up on stock streamer due to Java Version issue

    I bought a MacBook for personal use when I travel. My company expressly forbids any personal use of their laptop.
    When I use Safari with my wireless network at home it works fine. In this hotel I cannot access the stock streamer on TD Ameritrade when working over a wireless connection. TD Ameritrade "help" indicates a Java Version problem. I upgraded to the latest version of Java. TD still indicates a Java Version issue. This really does not make sense since the streamer works fine at home. I used my business laptop (XP with Internet Explorer) just to check the streamer and it works fine at the hotel.
    I checked the Safari Plug-ins. The Java Plug-ins listed say;
    Java Plug-in for Cocoa
    Java Switchable Plug-in (Cocoa) - from file "JavaPluginCocoa.bundle".
    Java Plug-in
    Java 1.3.1 Plug-in - from file "Java Applet.plugin".
    Java Plug-in (CFM)
    Java 1.3.1 Plug-in (CFM) - from file "Java Applet Plugin Enabler".
    I tried to download and reinstall Java 1.4.2. The system indicated there was already a newer version of Java 1.4 installed and terminated the install.
    Any suggestions will be tried.
    I am hoping that after all my years on PCs I will not regret trying to switch to Apple.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions and Mac Computing
    Do you have J2SE 5.0 installed in your Utilities>Java folder? Given your machine is new it ought to be there. If not, go to Software Update in your System Preferences and install it.
    If it is installed: inside the J2SE5.0 folder is Java Preferences.app and Java Cache Viewer. Double click the Pref. app. Upon opening, the ensuing panel indicates the "priority" for Java - mine says J2SE 5.0, then J2SE 1.4.2. If it isn't in that order, reverse the order by dragging one of them to the proper place. Select "save".
    Next, clear the 1.4.2 cache file by opening Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings.app, selecting cache, then "clear". Quit the app. and restart your computer/Safari.
    Post back.

  • ReportViewer.jar running under Java Version 6 Update 17

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how to resolve the missing icons issue when running the ReportViewer.jar tool under the above Java version. Under update 16 the viewer had all the correct buttons and icons and worked great. Since the upgrade to Java update 17 the icons have disappeared from the viewer. The buttons are still there but no icons.
    I am using Crystal Reports XI developer edition with the latest service packs on Windows 7.
    Regards

    This solution worked for me. All settings and bookmarks are intact. Thank you.

  • Problem with loading native library in java version "1.5.0_05"

    My application uses a native coded drawing. With java version 1.4.xx it was working just fine but with java 1.5.xx it gives the following error at the time of loading native library:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/abyzov/tmp/friend32-1.6.02/libfriend.so:
    /home/abyzov/tmp/friend32-1.6.02/libfriend.so: undefined symbol: XtWindowToWidget
    I assumed that java loads all necessary X-libraries at start up but it seems to be not true for version 1.5.xx. Does anybody now about this kind of problems? Should I report it as a bug?

    I have this exact same problem. I developed an application all along using 1.4.2_08 to be exact no problems. I was forced to switch to 1.5.0_06, now when I try to run the app I get:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: <path to library>/libcomlib.so: <path to library>/libcomlib.so: undefined symbol: yp_get_default_domain
    I have tried compiling it in both 1.4.2_8 and 1.5.0_06 and it compiles perfectly but when I run with 1.5.0_06 it messes up.
    If you found the problem with this or anyone else has any advice please let me know.

    With Java 6 and prior, you had to enable logging first before you could view error messages in Console.  I am guessing that you need to check the Java Control Panel to see if logging is turned on.

    Version 7 update 17
