Java Web Start is not working on Firefox 3 Kubuntu 8.04 64bit

Hi,
When I try to access web start demo applications it redirects me to download page. It is not working for both Firefox 3 and Konqueror. If I type form command line javaws it will start some policy editor, which I assume means that web start is working. Is there any way to fix this?
Alfas
I am using:
Firefox 3.0.1
java version "1.6.0_06"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode)
Ubuntu 8.04.1
KDE 3.5
Applets were not working so I installed OpenJKD (now they work)
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b09)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0-b09, mixed mode)

plugin and webstart are not yet available in 64bit jre distributions from Sun.
These are targeted to 6u12 or there abouts.

  • HT5559 Java web start does not work

I have followed the instructions in this article, including the last step about web start, but it still does not work, neither applets or web start. When I try to launch a JWS application by double clicking it I get the dreaded warning dialog:
To open this Web Start application, you need to download the Java Runtime Environment.
Click “More Info…” to visit the website for the Java Runtime Environment.
I do have a JRE installed, 1.6, since I for compatibility reasons can't upgrade.
Trying to launch a web start application from the commandline looks like this:
    $ javaws /tmp/airview.jnlp
Java Web Start splash screen process exiting ...
Can not find message file: No such file or directory
    Regular Java-programs work fine.
    $ java -version

    Read this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4789691?tstart=0
This fixed the issue for me:
    sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Delete :JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum" /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta. plist
In the comments to the linked article someone suggests to comment out the node in stead of deleting it. Probably safer (it's explained further down how to do that). Anyway I already spent to much time on this nonsense, deleted it and it worked, so I'm happy.

  • Java 7 Update 11 Not Working with Firefox

For me, the problems described in the thread "Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox? " Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?
are continuing with Java 7 Update 11.
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Firefox 18
The problem is that "Java(TM) Platform" is missing from the plug-in list.
I've uninstalled Java 7 Update 11 and reinstalled Java Update 9 which correctly installs the plugin and restores Java functionality which was broken immediately upon installing both Java 10 & 11.

    981243 wrote:
So why not using Ju11 ? You can workaround the issue. It would sucks but still be safer than using Ju9.
Also ask Mozilla forums if Firefox has options where to search for plugins.
Or try 64-bit Firefox. As I explained in both threads ...
Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?
Java 7 Update 11 Not Working with Firefox
... neither jre7u10 nor jre7u11 are working ... and they are BOTH broken with the same problem ... "Java(TM) Platform" pliugin is missing from the plug-in list. It cannot be enabled, because it simply is NOT there. A suggestion was made the jre7u12 will be the "fix" for this issue ... so I installed the Update 12 Preview and it sis ALSO broken, no "Java(TM) Platform" in the plug-in list.
The ONLY Java version that actually works for me is jre7u9.
As far as installing Firefox 64bit ... I see no future in installing a browser that has been discontinued.

Even though Mozilla relented due to backlash, I continued development will be a somewhat low priority.

  • Java Web Start does not start

    Hi,
This is a quite simple question I suppose, but I can't figure out the solution.
When starting my application using Java Web Start 1.0.1_02 the JWS application handler does not show up. JWS does only show a splash picture, then it disappear after 10-15 seconds. No error is written in the Java console window.
No errors occurred when installing JWS and it seems to be correctly installed, and JRE 1.3 is installed. I have successfully used my JNLP file earlier when I had JWS installed. After re-installation JWS does not work.
    What is the error?

The two most likely problems are java version in config files, and proxy settings in config files.
can you run javaws with no args and get up the application manager ?
if yes - look at settings in the preference panel of appman.
if no - look at javaws.cfg manually (in your users home directory/.javaws)
make sure the path to javaws.cfg.jre.0.path="xxx" points to a working javaws executable.
make sure the proxy settings: javaws.cfg.proxy.host and port are ok,

  • Java Plug-in and Java Web Start Will Not Start In JDK 1.4.2_03

I can't get the Java Plug-in or Java Web Start to start in JDK 1.4.2_03, but they did work when I first installed the JDK months ago. When I double-click either icon an hourglass displays for a second and then disappears without opening the window. I don't even get an error message.
I've tried reinstalling the JDK three times. On the last reinstall, I followed some instructions on how to completely remove the JDK. Here's the URL of the instructions I followed:
    http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-295773.php
    Strangely JBuilder stopped working too.
    I'm running Windows 2000.
    Help!
    Thank you!

  • Java Web Start no longer works after Update 4

After applying the update to Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4, my webstart files (.jnlp) now all think they are Internet Explorer files to be opened in Parallels.
Does anyone know how to re-associate these files with Java? Or, otherwise, a workaround to enable me to access the applications again.

You are not alone. This has happened to me and to others. And Apple is aware of the problem.
There seem to be 2 ways.
    1. Find the JNLP file in the Finder. Select "Get Info". Choose other from the Open With Pull Down Menu. Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices and find Java Web Start.app. Then click Change All.
    2. Open /System/Library/CoreServices in the Finder. This was suggested by nyagil (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9634326#9685181).

  • Java web start will not load on my computer

When I try and start the IR (PI version 7.1) I get the download of Java Web Start aborting as it complains that the client.jar file is corrupt.
I just got a colleague to do the same thing on her computer and the dowload worked perfectly!
I have JRE 1.5.0.18 on my computer, my colleague has 1.6 on her machine.
    HELP!
    Ross Goodman

    Hi Ross,
    Perform the below step:
Integration Builder> Administration-> JAVA Web Start Administration--> Re-initialization and force signing.
This function will cause the above re-collection and additionally a re-signing of ALL resources with a dummy certificate. The original SAP signatures of the jarfiles will be lost. It is recommended to use this function only in test systems. To get back the original SAP signatures the application has to be deployed again.
    Thanks,

  • Java Web Start won't work, applications don't open

    I have this problem.
When I open a Java Web Start application, a white loading screen shows up (Java Loading...), and I wait a few seconds, nothing happens, and the screen disapears. I don't have an idea what's wrong. I'll appreaciate any help.

Do you have Java configured to pop up a console
when JWS applications load? If not, ask it to do
so (I am still not sure that the console will appear,
but it is worth a try).
Are you able to load any JWS applications?
Here is a specific example of a very simple one

  • Java Web Start no longer works after Update 4 (2)

There was another thread under this title for which a solution was found by correcting the designated "open with" app back to Java Web Start.
My problem however is the Java Web Start simply crashes every time i try to open it since the installation of Java Update 4. And I also have a couple of Java apps that also refuse to open since this update.
Any one have any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi,
    Try this....
Go to Applcations>Utilities>Java utility and check to see whether it is denying requests to run the java applications. You will need to check the tabs and the options in it to identify the right one.
    Also you can try this...
    Remove the com.apple.launchservices.plist fron ~/Library/Preferences.

  • Hp smart web printing does not work on firefox. HP says this is not their problem and to contact Mozilla. Is there a plug in available?

I just bought a new hp printer. the software has a feature called HP web smart printing. The feature works on explorer but not on Firefox. HP says this is not their problem and suggested I contact Mozilla. Is an add on available and if not will one be made available.
I am using v. 3.6.13. and the printer is HP Officejet 4500.

HP smart web printing is an application that only works with IE. In spite of what HP have told you, if they want their application to work with Firefox they will need to make a version for Firefox. It is not down to Mozilla to make a version of the HP software for Firefox.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?<br/> ''A troubleshooting mode.''<br />
You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.''

  • Java 7 Update 10 Not Working with Firefox?

    Windows 7 64-bit
Mozilla Firefox 17.0.1 (Latest as of this time of writing)
Java 7 Update 10 (Runtime Edition)
    Java 7 Update 10 (Runtime Edition) 64-bit
It used to work before I updated it to the latest version of Java.
I tried reinstalling everything with a clean registry but none has worked.
The problem is that "Java(TM) Platform" is missing from the plug-in list. When I run Java content in my Firefox it gives an error saying "Missing content...".
Works perfectly with Internet Explorer and the 64-bit version.
Any thoughts on how to make this new update work with Firefox?

The problem is, that some registry kexy are missing.
These keys here works for JRE (32 bit) on Win 7 (64 bit), installed in the standard path.
Just add them after the installation of the JRE 7u10 and the Firefox plugin will work.
