Java web start unable to auto download java 1.6.0_14

Hi,
My application runs on java 1.6.0_14 and i want clients to use either 1.6.0_14 or higher while running the application. In the JNLP file i have mentioned j2se version as 1.6.0_14+
If the client machine has a java version lesser than 1.6.0_14, Java web start is not automatically downloading the given version from sun auto download site.
Isn' t this version supported by Sun for auto download? If yes, how to get around this problem?

Thanks..
We do have a web page from which we access the jnlp and that web page has javascript to force download of a specific version of JRE. Once it downloads the application on client machine, it creates an icon on the desktop.
If the application and jnlp is changed on the server, we want clients to go through the icon on desktop and still get the version of jre mentioned in the updated jnlp rather than having them go through the web page again do download the new JRE required...

  • Unable to use JRE 1.4.2 in Web Start

    LS,
    I have installed Java 2 RE 1.4.2-beta and Web Start lists it under Preferences | Java. But when I try to launch an application with js2e version="1.4.2" specified in the JNLP-file, Web Start tries to download this JRE from java.sun.com. I read in an earlier post this is a documented bug. Web Start can't automatically download Java RE 1.4.2-beta, as is described in the how-to-guide. So I have to manually install the JRE and end up at the beginning of this tale. Can someone help me out of this circle?

    Thanks Dan, I got it working.
    What I don't understand is, that when I specify j2se version=1.4.2 the error reads "Can't download 1.4.2-beta, while when specifying j2se version=1.4.2-beta, it suddenly can download this version. Anyway, it works.

  • My web start app doesn't get cached

    Many apologies if this topic has been covered before but I have extensively searched the archive and can't seem to find it.
    I have made my own trivial web start app and it downloads and works fine with my installed web start software. The problem I have is that when I launch the web start application manager and start my app from there the app does not apear in the "downloaded applications" section and hence I can't get to run it unless I have a connection.
    Firstly I though I may be missing the <offline-allowed/> element from the JNLP file but it wasn't that. Then I thought it may be because my jars aren't signed but then the examples from sun worked OK and they weren't signed at all.
    I have checked in the web starts cache directory and it looks to me as if the correct jars are in there but still the application manager won't show my app as one of the downloaded ones.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Gareth Walker

    The Java Web Start application Manager will only display applications who's jnlp files are cached.
    In order to cache your jnlp file you need to include an href attribute for the jnlp element in your jnlp
    file. This may not allways be possible if your jnlp file is programatically generated by a servlet,
    but it works for static jnlp files.

  • Lopica Web Start os.name, os.version & os.arch Collection Updated

    Hello,
    I've updated the Lopica Web Start os.name, os.version & os.arch Collection. New entries cover Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server and Windows 2003 Server.
    See http://lopica.sourceforge.net/os.html for full details.
    If an os.name, os.version & os.arch entry is missing, please let let me know.
    - Gerald
    What is the Lopica Web Start os.name, os.version & os.arch Collection?
    The current JNLP specification doesn't list the values for the os or arch attributes. Instead it states that all values are valid as long as they match the values returned by the system properties os.name or os.arch. Values that only match the beginning of os.name or os.arch are also valid (e.g. if you specify Windows and the os.name is Windows 98, for example, everything works out fine).
    To make it easier for everyone I collect and publish the os and arch values at the Lopic site.

    Something similar happened with me. After installing the Software Update patches, one of which installed Safari 4, Java Web Start files that I download appear as normal text files, and javaws doesn't get invoked on them. This used to work, every day, until the upgrade. As a workaround, I picked the JNLP file out of the recycle bin and, in a Terminal window, ran "javaws filename" to run it. Hopefully someone can tell us how to fix the file associations in Safari 4 so that javaws gets launched automatically when these types of files are downloaded.
    Safari does say that it knows about the Java Plug-In for Cocoa and that it handles application/x-java-jnlp-file .

    I'm behind a proxy. In my browser -Chrome, IE and FF- putted the info of the proxy and I can browse. Aldo tried to put the info in the Java "Network Settings". It did not work -the launching of the console-.
    I installed the last Java Web Start in Windows 7 -Java7 Update5-. I disabled my anti-virus and firewall. Always the same result.
    Could you help me please. I don't have idea of what is going on.

    "install the jnlp from the dos window" - do you mean run "javaws applicationURL"?Yes. But actually that only worked because we had already installed a Java 6 version.

  • Unable to run my application using java web start

    i have created one application and use java web start to download the application. all the files are succesfully downloaded but when i try to run the application an expected error occur. this only happen in my machine but not in other machine i'm currently using
    -jsdk1.4.2

    -pentium III 870 Mhz
    -x86-based PC

    Anyone knows why, plz help me with this puzzle

    Please post the information from the Web Start "Exception" and "Wrapped Exception" tabs when the error occurs (I assume the error was in fact unexpected ;-)
    A blind stab in the dark would be that you don't have write permission to the cache directory on the second machine. Also worth checking that the proxy settings on the second machine are the same as the first (if they are on the same network).

  • Unable to Launch Integration Builder: Java Web Start problem

    Hi,
    I am unable to launch the integration builder. I am using JDK 1.4.2_05. The java Web Start gives the following error:
    Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system
    Unsigned resource: http://<XIHostName>:50000/rep/repository/aii_util_rb.jar
    I have tried deleting the Java web start cache, and even reinstalling the JDK.
    Can someone suggest a workaround this problem ?
    thanks,
    Manish

    The Java Web Start cannot accept unsigned jars. If the jars are signed, it will ask in a dialog box if it should allow unrestricted access to this jar.
    In my case, I upgraded XI SP0 to SP4, which included updating the Adapter Core, Adapter Framework, and the XI TOOLS to SP4.
    On launching the Web start, it seemed that the jars were not getting signed. JWS cannot allow unsigned jars to the client.
    These jars are maintained in:
    \usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\xi\directory_server\javaws\directory
    I am having problems with my XI upgrade to SP4, and it is probably not signing the jars.
    Do you know why this may be happening ...
    thanks,
    Manish

  • Unable to launch Integeration Builder - Java Web Start - Unexpected Error

    Hi there,
    I am not able to launch the Integeration builder. The ESR has no problem and is working fine though.
    Here is the exception :- com.sap.aii.ibdir.gui.appl.ApplicationImpl
    I have tried below options already :
    1. Cleared the java cache under - javaws -logviewer
    2. Go into administration and inside Directory --> Java Web Start Administration clicked "Restore archives and generate new sign."
    Strange part is some of my colleagues here doesnt have any issue while opening the Integeration Builder. In fact I dont have any such issue in QA and PROD environment. The issue is only in DEV environment. Please advice.
    Anshul

    Hello,
    Usually restoring the archives will help resolve the issue.
    If the issue is occurring for just yourself maybe you could check that you are using the correct java version. e.g. for for 7. 1 java version 5
    Also please refresh the Java Web Start:
    If it's a Windows terminal, select Start - Run - javaws to launch Java Web Start and then clear the cache. File -> preferences ->
    advanced -> clear folder button
    If you have later versions of Java and doing the
    Start -> Run doesn't give you anything, then select Start - Run and type Control and hit Enter. Double-click Java in the list
    that displays to view the more up-to-date Java Control Panel. In the General tab, select Settings from the Temporary Internet Files section. Click Delete Files to clear the cache and then log into the Integration Builder again (download will be longer as jars will be cached locally again).
    If the problem still remains I would advise to check that the latest patches have been applied for XI_TOOL, and also the other components MESSAGING  SAP-XIAFC SAP_XIAF SAP_XIESR SAP_XIGUI

  • Unable to launch java web start

    We have already devloped an application based on java web start. Most of the client machines, we try to install java web start and run the developed app, it works fine. For one of the clients machine, we have an issue with java web start itself, it does not startup and bring up the application manager. When you start java web start, it shows up the splash screen 'java web start 1.0.1' after some time, it vanishes and does not bring up the application manager. I have installed java web start 1.0.1_01 (build 04) installed on Windows 2000 Professional, by default that has installed JRE 1.3.1_04 also.
    We verified the system, all the files being existing under c:\program files\java web start dir. And the JRE is also installed fine.
    Couple of times we uninstalled, rebooted and installed.
    Infact, we have even verified the file types for html, htm, which was set to msoffice, and we have changed to internet explorer. For jnlp file type it was already set to javaws.exe.
    Can you please let me know what could be the problem.
    Regards,
    Nagarjuna Rao Chakka

    There's nothing to stop you installing 1.4 or even 1.4.2, it's the jnlp file that specifies which runtime version gets used to run your application - web start can be used to happily switch runtimes like this. You'll just need to have 1.4 and 1.3 installed on each machine. It's a good idea to upgrade the web start client as the old 1.0 version doesn't work at all well with Windows XP, it's structure of storing all the files in c:\program files works against the security restrictions built into XP.
    Incidentally the config file you were looking for in under c:\program files\javaws\javaws.cfg, but this is different in later versions.
    Your problem is most likely being caused by web start not being able to find the Java runtime version it was installed with, the client may well have installed a newer (or older) version of 1.3 which has broken the configuration.. another reason to upgrade is the old versions are very fragile in this respect; 1.4.2 can find installed runtimes far more dynamically. Fixing the config file above should get things working again, otherwise delete the .javaws directory in the user profile and re-start web start.
    1.4.2 is the best at finding runtimes, but is marred by problems with the integration dialogs, locale always reported as en_US and some strange new behaviour with classloaders and malfunctioning auto installers.. jws 1.2 that comes with jre 1.4.1_x is far more reliable.

  • Problems to download with java web start

    Hola to all.
    I have the following problem. My application not discharge of the server when you exist a new version. The application runs off line but when exist a new version must download the last version, is the idea.
    If I execute for first time the "launch.jnlp" file ( that is to say in the client equipment never execute the application ) java web start connects and download correctly the application and starts application, and creates the icon on the screen. But if the application already existed java web start executes the application that there is in the client and not download the new version of the server. I think, that problem its happen because the time waiting the response of the server is too long, and executes the local application. To resolve this, i execute the application on java control panel in online mode, and this work ok, because find a new version.
    I leave you the launch.jnlp file.

  • First Java Web Start download doesn't update, second time does

    I'm using Java Web Start with our application. This release we upgraded to java 1.5 from 1.4. Now I have a few PCs, not all, that do not get updates the first time they launch the application. But when the launch it the second time they get the download. The jnlp didn't change between releases? Any suggestions? I'm not using lazy loads, in fact I'm using the default which should be eager.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I have similar situation. At the machine is installed Java 1.6 u1. Setup first version of application. After deploy second version of application and run application start update, but console show that application use old packages. At the same time main package is uploaded? I'd try to use <update check="always"?> but there are no positive result.
    At the same time then installed Java 1.6 u2, all works fine.
    Any suggestion, how it could be resolved, without Java 1.6 u2 installation?

  • Java 7 Update 25 Client App Downloaded From Web Start Can't Connect Out

    Since Java 7 update 25, I have an issue where my client Java application, downloaded with Java Web Start, can no longer connect to a remote server. (The client uses remote EJB to connect various servers). The issue I believe is that the client application is being blocked by security features of this Java update.
    A very quick (random?) fix around the problem is to show the Java console. If the Java console is enabled to be shown, the client application can connect fine.
    Although showing the Java console is a quick fix, it's not one we particularly want to keep asking customers to do. I understand we may need to define the Codebase and Permissions in the manifest file as described here: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/no_redeploy.html..
    I have defined the Codebase and Permissions in the manifest of the client jar's we build ourselves. I believe this has worked as we no longer see "Missing Codebase manifest attribute for...." in the console for our own jar's. However, the application still cannot connect out. I'm stumbling around somewhat on this issue and trying various things in an attempt to get this to work. Assuming i'm on the right lines and the problem is some jars missing the Codebase and Permissions in their manifests, my question is, should I and how can I modify the manifest of 3rd party jars to include this information? For example, the client app requires many JBoss and EJB client jars - do I need to somehow modify the manifest of all of these jars to include the codebase and permissions?
    It goes without saying that all the jars are signed - the application would not start at all if there was a problem here. So the application starts with it's login box - but it simply cannot connect out to the servers.
    If anybody can offer any help on this issue i'd be most grateful. As a quick fix, is there a way to get this to work via adjusting Control Panel settings (other than showing the console)? I have played with a lot but not stumbled on a way to get this to work other than showing the console, although ideally i'd like to be able to get this to work without having to do any tweaks to clients Java control panel.

    We're also seeing this. The 7u25 update completely derailed a trial program we were conducting, because no one could log in to our application via WebStart once they upgraded Java.
    Our login code crashes because SwingUtilities.isEventDispatchThread() throws an NPE.
    We tried theskad81's fix but it didn't work for us. We worked around the issue by hosting u21 on our site and pointing our WebStart page there instead of at Oracle's update site.
    *** ORACLE: PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE USING APPLE'S FIX (mentioned in an earlier post - see above) ***

  • New to Java Web Start technology - unable to start JWS

    I am new to JWS, and started with sample programs given at JWS product page.
    I compiled the files and created the .war file and copied that file into the DOCUMENTROOT of my Web server. Also I copied the .jnlp file into the same location. After that I created a .html file in the same location which provide a link to .jnlp file.
    Now, when I launch the html file, and click on the link, JWS window should have been launched and the application should have been started. But, what I see is the contents of .jnlp file on the browser.
    What might be the problem? Please let me know the solution...
    I am using Apache Web Server on a Win 2000 system. Also I modified the mime.types file under web server to include the following line:
    application/x-java-jnlp-file JNLP
    Thanks,

    Hi All,
    After some configuration changes, now I am able to start Java Web start. But as soon as web start gets started it tries to download JRE from Sun site(though I have JRE installed on my system and the PATH is set). I am getting the following message : requesting JRE 1.4.0_01 from http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se.
    My .jnlp file is as given below:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <jnlp spec="1.0" codebase="http://system-ip/webpad.war">
    <information>
    <title>WebPad 1.0</title>
    <vendor>Sun Microsystems, Inc.</vendor>
    </information>
    <resources>
    <property name="publish-url" value="$$context/publish"/>
    <j2se version="1.4.0_01"/>
    <jar href="webpad.jar" version="1.0"/>
    <jar href="jlfgr.jar" version="1.0"/>
    <extension name="Help System"
    href="javahelp.jnlp">
    <ext-download ext-part="javahelp" download="lazy" part="help"/>
    </extension>
    <jar href="holidays.jar" version="1.0" download="lazy" part="help"/>
    </resources>
    <application-desc main-class="WebPad"/>
    </jnlp>
    Please let me know, what should I do to rectify the above problem.
    thanks,
    Raghu
