  • Peculiar issue with signed .jars and Linux (Debian unstable, 2.4.20-custom)

    BACKGROUND:
I am a developer working on a Java3D application, which is to be deliverable over
the Web. Delivery as an applet seemed a natural choice, and so I spent a considerable amount of effort learning (I won't say "mastering") the process of
creating a self-signed .jar containing java3d-<some_version>.exe. I have in fact
    successfully created a fully-fuctional from-scratch JPI/Java3D/myapp install. By
this I mean that Windows machine with only stock IE installed could hit my URL,
get the proper JPI installed, followed by the Java3D runtime I'd chosen, as well
as a third-party DXF loader, and finally (after much clicking of 'Yes', 'Accept',
'OK', etc.) see my app in a browser window.
That was on my old, slow, Windows2000 workstation. Now I have a shiny, new
workstation upon which my employer has graciously allowed me to run Linux. Sadly,
the re-creation of the self-signed .jar files under a new JDK has not gone smoothly.
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When a user attempts to download the self-signed .jar containing the auto-install
executable for the Java3D runtime, the normal security warning prompts are displayed (one for granting to install the extension, one to accept the "suspect" certificate from me alone). The plugin happily downloads the .jar file, and then
a NullPointerException is thrown, with a
    stack trace like:
    NPE!
    at java.util.zip.ZipFile.getInputStream (unknown source)
    at java.util.jar.JarFile.getInputStream (unknown source)
    <something>doPrivileged<something>
    etc.
I apologize for the lack of a full stack trace; I would essentially have to type it in by hand after printing it out on the remote test box; I hope that I've caught the important details above.
After this, the pure-java signed .jar is downloaded and installed, and then the applet "loads" with the predictable ClassNotFoundException for javax.media.j3d.SceneGroup.
Downloading and installing the J3D runtime by hand and then re-visiting the URL results in a fully-functional applet.
I've tried Blackdown Linux JDKs 1.4 and 1.3.1, as well as Sun's JDKs 1.3.1_07 and 1.3.1_05 for the compiling, jar'ing, and jarsigner'ing of these files, all with the same result. At each new JDK, I re-did the HTML conversion so that he appropriate
JPI version was required on the client. I did complete uninstallations of all client JPI instances (including Web Start for 1.4.1_x, as well as cleaning the registry on the client).
When this strategy worked, it was on Sun JDK 1.3.1_05 for Windows runnning on Windows2000, unknown service pack.
    DESIRED BEHAVIOR:
I would like my clients to be able to go from stock Windows2K/IE (this being an intranet without any other options) to some JPI version running the J3D extension, with only the need to click 'OK', 'Accept', 'Grant This Session', etc. a bunch of times on the part of the user. I want this to happen without my having to resurrect my decrepit old Compaq Deskpro just to play the role of "build host" for my
Java3D and loader .jar files, if at all possible.
    FILES:
Here's what gets merged into the "main" applet's mainfest at creation time:

I have seen that bug, and the problem I'm having seems to be different than it. The extension installer is in the first extension .jar my applet asks for, and it
never works automatically, regardless of how many times the applet is loaded.
The second .jar, which doesn't have to run any installer, always works fine, but the first one will never work (a manual install of the Java3D runtime is required). This seems to not be the behavior described in the bug.
I will continue to search for an answer to this problem, and of course if I should find anything I'll post it here.

  • Why do I get an error outside the VM in the 3d api when resizing windows?

I'm just starting with the 3d api.
Ive created a simpleUniverse and added a branchGroup and
some TransformGroups.I've created multi-color pyramid that
rotates using a RotationInterpolator. Everything works fine
except when I try to resize the window, this happens:

Then I ran some of the 3D example programs from sun and the same
    thing happens to them.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Is there a solution?
ps> I am running all of these as applications not as applets.

I believe that you are running into a problem with the version of the IMAGEHLP.DLL that you are running.
DLLs are Dynamic Linked Libraries, containing native compiled functions available for use by applications.
I am not familiar with that particular DLL (not really a windows programmer, just dabble occasionally ;-)) but it looks like the VM is trying to access a function in that DLL that is not available.
As you probably already know the VM has to interface with native code and libraries to work on a given machine. In your case, it appears to be trying to interface with a portion of the native windowing/redraw/resize functionality.
On Windows there is a real nightmare as there are multiple APIs for accessing the native functionality embedded in multiple DLLs of which there are often multiple different versions in circulation. You will find that sometimes certain functionality can only be accessed by using an undocumented feature of a DLL and these features can disappear or be moved between versions - that is one reason why I much prefer java to MS C++...
There are a few things you can do to try and resolve this, see if there is a newer or older version of the JVM/Java3D extensions that works on your system, apply appropriate service packs or patches to windows if specified by the JVM/Java3D and update/change your graphics card drivers. Fixing this kind of problem in windows is a bit of a black art unless you can find someone who has had the exact same problem before and fixed it.
All I can say now is good luck!

  • Java3D applet deployment -- download extension

Hi, I need to deploy an applet using Java3D package. Trying to avoid the installation hassle (on the client side), I want to put the three packages available on the server (j3dcore.jar, j3dutils.jar, vecmath.jar), and then add the class path of these jar files in the manifest of the applet jar file. It's not working. now I start to wonder if such an approach is feasible or not. Can anyone give me some suggestions? Thanks a lot. (By the way, I uploaded my files on geocities (the yahoo free webspace) -- guess this does not make a difference, right?

Sorry. But I was not quite sure which forum would be the most appropriate one.

  • Java3D standard extension not deploying

Hi I'm trying to use java within an applet. To get it working on machines without I'm using standard extensions deployment. The only problem is is that it's not deploying :(. I'm checked that the signed jar file is working and if I run it locally it will install the files. However whenever I try to run the applet I just gettting a error relating to the fact that the signed jar files haven't been installed, does anyone know why it might not be picking up the signed jar, here are the manifest files :

  • Download JAVA3D API necessary to run java3d?

    I have a problem because i made a game in java3d
for new users that connect for the first time they have to download java1.3.1_06 plug in and then they have to download java3d API and installe manually.
is there a way to download only one thing to make the two functions...?
I would like the user to just download a plug in conataining everything necessary to the execution of my game.
    thank you seriously,i am blocked.

The short answer to your question is "No".
As you know, installing the JPI is simple. In principle, it would be possible, to autoinstall Java3D as an own JAR-file too. See this article:
    http://www.j3d.org/tutorials/quick_fix/auto_install.html
But there are some problems with this solution:
    - The Java3D-files in the auto installer are fixed on a specific platform like "J3D 1.2 for Windows & DirectX" etc.
    - The JAR-file has to be signed, an that is a process
    - You can use a self made (test-) certificate to sign the JAR-file, but (on Windows), double clicking a certificate will install it in the Windows internal database - and that database is ignored by Java since version 1.3. Therefore, the certificate has to be installed in the Java internal certificate database via command line.
I think it's the better way to let download the User the 3D API for his specific platform. As you know, there are some other obstacles:
Each combination of OS, Graphics Acceleration and JVM Version requires different versions of J3D. (For example: The JVM 1.4, requires J3D 1.3. Otherwise, J3D 1.3 requires DirectX 8. But what's with platforms with JVM 1.4 and DirectX 7? For those, there is the J3D 1.3_4 etc...)
Not necessary to say, that this is too much to almost all visitors of a normal website.
Therefore, we have created a "Java 3D Download Guide". It is available on http://www.AniFun3.de/java3d/index.php. It has a neutral Design and can be integrated into other websites. The Download Guide will ask some questions and than redirect to the download page of a specific J3D version.
You have to grant that the User will restart the JVM after installing the 3D API. That means, all browser windows has to be closed after the 3D API installation.
Additional hint: Your game can check the local system for a proper installation of J3D at startup, and, if not installed, redirect to the download guide. The game can feed the download guide with information about the local system like OS name and JVM version. This infomation let the download guide jump over the first page.
Note: To make this "auto check" propper work, your start class must not have any reference to a class of the 3D API!
    Here is a code example:
// Member variable: Data structure, containing Java version information
    private static int[]          ivJavaVersion    = null;
// Member variable: Flag, that indicates, if the program is started in applet mode or not.
//                  Set this flag to 'false' in main()
    private static boolean        ivIsApplet       = true;
    * This method returns true, if Java 3D (TM) has been found in the
    * environment. If there is a problem using Java 3D, this method will
    * (if started in applet mode) try to open the Java 3D Download Guide
    * in a new browser.

    private boolean check3DAPI()

         boolean isApplet     = (this instanceof Applet);

  • Opengl and directx for java or c++ or Java3D

I am new to the 3D programming and I have many queries and I hope those expect can answer me. Thank you very much.
I have some experience in writing directx 7.0 in C++. I find that the IDirect3DDevice7 in directx7.0 does not support 256 colors but direct3ddevice in directx5.0 does.
However, the direct3ddevice in directx5.0 in 16 or 32 bit color performs very strange. Distortion is found in displaying a 3D image.
    1.     Do you have this experience? Does direct3ddevice in directx5.0 not work in 16 or 32 bit colors?
    2.     If I want to write a 3D directx program in C++ that can be work in every resolution, what can I do?
    3.     Can opengl work in every resolution 256 colors, 16, 32 bits?
    4.     Does opengl work in every platform?
    5.     Can I write an opengl program in window platform and run it in Linux without any modification or compilation ?
    6.     Does the opengl runtime different from platform to platform ?
    7.     If I deploy an opengl progam, do I need to deploy the runtime for a particular platform with it.
    8.     Opengl is claimed to be open source. What does it mean ? Can I modify the code of the opengl sdk or runtime and re-complie it and make it my own version of opengl ?
    9.     I find many version of opengl sdk in the web. Some is special to a particular hardware eg. NVIDIA. Some is not bounded to any hardware. What is the different between them ? How can I choose from them ?
    10.     I know that there is directx for java and opengl for java. Is it the so called java 3D ?
    11.     Does opengl or directx together with Java2 become Java 3D ?
    12.     However I cannot find any directx code or directive for importing the directx package in the Java 3D sample code.
    13.     Does the Javax provide the utility for 3D programming by hiding the 3D device or texture surface creation ?
    14.     I find some code segment from MSDN which shows the way to create a directdraw object in an applet. I wonder what is the proper way to use directx or opengl in java since my main goal is to create a directx application that can be worked in the web.
    15.     Lastly, from my understanding, directx is a com api which can be used in every programming languages. Does it imply that with a directx sdk, I can write a directx application in C++, java, or vb ?
    16.     But, I find that the code to do the same task in the three programming languages is very different. The object creation methods, the data structure for directx in the three programming languages is different. Is the same sdk realy used in different programming languages ? The object name for e.g. direct3ddevice is different from vb (Direct3DDevice7) and c++ (IDirect3DDevice7).

I'm no expert in 3D graphics programming, but I have some experience. I'll try to answer some of your questions.
    2.     If I want to write a 3D directx program in C++ that
can be work in every resolution, what can I do?I think both DirectX and OpenGL supports any resolution and color depth. It's more a matter of which resolutions your graphics driver supports.
    3.     Can opengl work in every resolution 256 colors, 16,
    32 bits?Yes.
    4.     Does opengl work in every platform?OpenGL is available on many platforms. Look at GL4Java if you want to use OpenGL in Java, it's available on many platforms. Look at: http://www.jausoft.com/gl4java.html
    5.     Can I write an opengl program in window platform
and run it in Linux without any modification or
compilation ?Yes, if you write it in Java. In C++ you will need to recompile the app.
    6.     Does the opengl runtime different from platform to
platform ?No, it's a standard. There are some extensions that are driver dependant, but if you stick to the standard it will run unmodified on all platforms.
    7.     If I deploy an opengl progam, do I need to deploy
the runtime for a particular platform with it.I don't think OpenGL is available by default on all platforms.
    8.     Opengl is claimed to be open source. What does it
mean ? Can I modify the code of the opengl sdk or
runtime and re-complie it and make it my own version
of opengl ?OpenGL is not open source. OpenGL is a standard, it can't be open source since there is no source code.
    9.     I find many version of opengl sdk in the web. Some
is special to a particular hardware eg. NVIDIA. Some
is not bounded to any hardware. What is the different
between them ? How can I choose from them ?If you have modern graphics card the driver includes support for OpenGL on MS Windows. For Linux you use Mesa I think. See GL4Java homepage for more info.
    10.     I know that there is directx for java and opengl
for java. Is it the so called java 3D ?GL4Java implements the OpenGL functions in Java. Java3D is a high level API that runs on either OpenGL or DirectX.
    11.     Does opengl or directx together with Java2 become
Java 3D ?No. The Java3D package is available for download at java.sun.com.
    12.     However I cannot find any directx code or
directive for importing the directx package in the
Java 3D sample code. You can't call DirectX directly in Java3D. It hides the underlying layers.
    13.     Does the Javax provide the utility for 3D
programming by hiding the 3D device or texture surface
creation ?Java3D is platform independent and hides things like the hardware, drivers etc.
    14.     I find some code segment from MSDN which shows the
way to create a directdraw object in an applet. I
wonder what is the proper way to use directx or opengl
in java since my main goal is to create a directx
application that can be worked in the web.I dont know if DirectX is available for Java. I recommend that you use OpenGL instead, or Java3D if you want an easy, high level API.
    15.     Lastly, from my understanding, directx is a com
api which can be used in every programming languages.
Does it imply that with a directx sdk, I can write a
directx application in C++, java, or vb ?In C++ and VB, yes. Dont know if there are any Java DirectX bindings available.
    16.     But, I find that the code to do the same task in
the three programming languages is very different. The
object creation methods, the data structure for
directx in the three programming languages is
different. Is the same sdk realy used in different
programming languages ? The object name for e.g.
direct3ddevice is different from vb (Direct3DDevice7)
and c++ (IDirect3DDevice7).Don't mix programming languages in the same app. Decide if Java or C++ is the right language for you, then use the tools available for the language you choose.
My recommendation is to go for Java and Java3D if you are inexperienced with 3D graphics programming. Use Java + OpenGL if you know about vertices, textures, transforms etc.

  • Adobe cloud tries to load addon which I have deleted in Extension manager

when Adobe Cloud starts it tries to load an application (Edge FX lite) that I have deleted in Adobe Extension Manager cc. I get the error message ' unable to install the addon EdgeFX lite  error 603. How do I stop this?
Also in Adobe Exchange in 'My Stuff'  there are showing addons which I have removed in Adobe extension Manager cc which I would like to be removed from this listing as I will never use them, but if I right click to uninstall I fail to get rid of them.

Apologies, without making the assumption that you are signed in
    1) Go to https://creative.adobe.com/addons/
    2) In the top right hand corner select sign in and enter your Adobe ID and password
    3) Once logged in, on the center of the screen at the left hand side, select the link 'All your purchases and shared items'
    4) You will then be taken to a page that is the equivalent of your My Stuff panel.
    5) You can then install individual add-ons/extensions.
    Kind regards,
    Lea

  • Mini DVI to VGA Adapter w/ extension cable

I would like to get a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter for my macbook. Does anyone know how it would would if I used it with a VGA extension cable. Any experience will be helpful

Depends on how long the cable is, and if it was of sufficient quality for computer use. The higher resolutions require better quality and shorter cables. You may get some signal loss for long cables. A standard monitor cable that comes with a computer monitor should be fine, but what kind of length extension cable are you talking about?

  • VO Extension Error in modifying the query of XML Publisher Report Template

    Hi Friends,
I have one requirement related to calling XML Publisher Reports Template from OAF Page.
When clicking on the submit button the XML Publisher template is calling and displaying the data.
Our requirement is to display some more columns in the XML Publisher Template and display the data.
As according to OAF stndards, whenever we need to add new columns for display or SELECT purpose,
we will do the VO Extension. So we modified the query by adding the new additional colums in the standard VO.
I am able to retrieve the data from the SQL DEVELOPER. But when doing the VO Extension process and
calling the template from the OAF page its throwing the following error. Please suggest me some alternatives
    to fix the issue.

  • Activity Report download is saved without extension and unreadable

    Hello,
The Portal Activity Report iView has a button which enables the user to download the report to his PC.
The problem is that when the user clicks on that button and saves the file it is being saved by this default name: com.sap.portal.activityreport.frontend.DownloadableActivityReport
The main problem is that it is being saved by default without any extension and after saving the user needs to manually add the .xls suffix.
Another problem is that once I open the report with Excel The Object Name column is unreadable.
Is there any way to resolve these issues?
    Roy

    Hi Roy,
    > if it wasn't supported there
    > or you would still consider it as a bug?
The feature in general of course was supported, but what I cannot say is if it was a known issue that it didn't work correctly. As I dont't use the ActivityReport, I also have no experience if it didn't work at some time and maybe now is working.
The wrong filename I don't expect to be corrected in the meanwhile, as said, that's a problem in some places. So at least for this you could open an OSS message. And maybe combine this with the problematic column issue.
But if upgrading to SP18 would be an option for you, maybe you could first test that.
    Hope it helps

  • New problem printing from financial websites - print button sends file to a "cgi" extension and adobe cannot open and print.

I used to be able to print my bank statements directly from the website to my printer. Now the print program sends the file to a file with a "cgi" extension and saves it on my desktop but as an Adobe file. When i open it to print, Adobe says it is not supported or corrupt. running windows 7 on PC.

    mmsteer,
I think I may be able to help you with this problem, which I was having with CS4 when I first upgraded to Lion, and others were having with CS3. This fix is courtesy of Aisolve on these discussion boards:
Remove the Adobe PDF PPDs from the following folders:
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
Be sure to go to your system Library, not your user Library.
Also, regarding my current problem, I spoke with an Apple tech person and found that the 10.7.2 upgrade apparently is the culprit, and is incompatible with wireless printing to my Lanier printer. I CAN print connected through USB. That's a work-around for now, but I'll need to contact Lanier about upgrading their driver for OS X 10.7.2.
Aisolve was helping me with this issue, too, and assures me that if I'm able to generate a postscript file (which I was), and able to generate a PDF by distlling it through Adobe Distiller (which I am), then I can safely assume that the problem lies with the hardware, in this case the printer driver. This lines up with what Apple told me.

  • How to use customer extension table for schedule line for shopping cart ?

    Dear Experts,
One of our client wants to have schedule lines in shopping cart item. I am thinking of using customer extension table at item level for shopping cart. Could you please help me on  how I should proceed with the appending the structures so that the end user can fill the shopping cart schedule line details?
Which fields should I consider in such cases?
    Thanks and regards,
    Ranjan

    Hi.
I guess you use SRM 7.0. Please go to IMG.
SRM -> SRM Server -> Cross-Application Basic Settings -> Extensions and Field Control (Personalization) -> Create Table Extensions and Supply with Data
