Javac error in tomcat 5.5.7

I'm using tomcat 5.5.7 with the compatibility jar to JDK 1.4.1.
I've replaced the jasper-compiler-jdt.jar under $CATALINA_HOME/commons/lib with ant.jar.
When I try to enter a jsp page I get the following error:
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
I saw in the log that the classpath seems to be truncated (see the bold lines)
Any idea how to fix it?

  • [javac] Error loading: C:\bea\jdk1.6.0_24\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll

    Hi,
    I was curious about the following error:
    [javac] Error loading: C:\bea\jdk1.6.0_24\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
    Could someone let me know why this randomly occurs?
    Thanks

    Thanks. Thats all the information I have on the error... Inquiring if anyone seen this before or know what could cause this.
    >
    If all you are inquiring about is whether anyone has seen that before then the answer is yes.
    If instead you want help finding out what is causing it in your case then you have to provide information about what it is you are doing when it shows up. Does it show up everytime you cold boot your computer? Only when you check you email?
    Give us the specifics.

  • Error starting Tomcat

    Hi all,
    I'm stupefied. In the past I had a Tomcat running in Apache, now I seem not to be able to accomplish it.
    My environment:
    OS: Windows XP
    Java: jdk1.6.0_03
    Apache: Apache2.2
    Tomcat: Tomcat6.0
    JAVA_HOME is set to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03
    I used the Apache Tomcat Setup Wizard to install Tomcat. It is installed as an XP service. Starting fails, with the following entry in the log file:
    [2007-12-05 15:37:44] [info] Procrun (2.0.3.0) started
    [2007-12-05 15:37:44] [info] Running Service...

    [2007-12-05 15:37:44] [info] Procrun finished.
    I've been searching the Internet on the error message <tomcat jdk The specified module could not be found>, and have been fiddling around with my configuration, but still my Tomcat does not want to start. So does anyone have an idea what I need to do to get my Tomcat in the air?
    Abel

    Found the error, after searching some more on the Internet. It seems Tomcat misses a file, msvcr71.dll, which is located in the C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03\bin directory. If you copy this file to the <windows>/system32 directory, Tomcat starts without a problem.

  • Are javac error messages documented with comprehensive explanations

    Hi all:
    Are the error messages which javac produces documented?
    Can anyone recommend a source which explains exactly what the message is trying to tell the beginner?
    Often the meaning of the message is clear. But frequently one looks at the message and wonders exactly what the compiler is trying to tell you and how to go about fixing it.
    By the way, I am using JDK 1.3.1. I did try searching the forum because I am sure this question has been asked but I couldn't phrase the query so that it gave a reasonable number of items to look at.
    Thanks all
    Bill

    One good tutorial on the meaning of the the various common javac error messages can be found here: http://mindprod.com/errormessages.html
    Roedy's stuff is usually quite accurate and reasonably up to date. You might also want to peek around the rest of his Java Glossary - it's got a lot of great info.

  • Newbie:  jsp compile error w/ tomcat 5.0.19

    Hello there, this is my first time try to write something in jsp/ servlets, and i encounter a minor installation problem:
    using mdk linux with j2sdk1.4.2 (locate at /usr/local/), tomcat is also locate at /usr/local.
    I am able to see HelloServlet.java, and HelloWorld.html at http://localhost:8080/servlet/HelloServlet
    and http://localhost:8080/testing/HelloWorld.html
    but i'm unable to see HelloWorld.jsp at http://localhost:880/HellowWorld.jsp (my HelloWorld.html and HellowWorld.jsp are locate at the same dir)
    here's are the things i added in my /etc/profile so far:
    CATALINA_HOME="/usr/local/Tomcat"
    export CATALINA_HOME
    JAVA_HOME="/usr/local/j2sdk1.4.2"
    export JAVA_HOME
    JavaPath="/usr/local/j2sdk1.4.2/bin"
    export JavaPath
    PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
    export PKG_CONFIG_PATH
    CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/usr/local/Tomcat/common/lib/servlet-api.jar:/usr/local/Tomcat/
    common/lib/jsp-api.jar:/home/allen/programming/j2ee/:./
    export CLASSPATH
    when do java -verison, i see:
    [root@localhost local]# java -version
    java version "1.4.2"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2-b28)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-b28, mixed mode)
    when start tomcat, i got:
    [root@localhost bin]# ./startup.sh
    Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/local/Tomcat
    Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/local/Tomcat
    Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/local/Tomcat/temp
    Using JAVA_HOME: /usr/local/j2sdk1.4.2
    i thought i did everything that was told, yet i can't see jsp page on my browser, while i can see servlets and html,
    thank you for your time in advance ^_^

    sorry, it was a typo, yea...it was for http://localhost:8080/testing/Hello.jsp
    this morning, i copied "tool.jar" from j2sdk1.4.2 to my /usr/local/tomcat/common/lib, restarted, fire it up again using "./catalina.sh" just to see where the problems came from, and here's where the compile error occue:

    looking over the compiler error, it seems to me tomcat is able to recongize /usr/local/j2sdk1.4 's location. which i assume it implied JAVA_HOME and CLASSPATH are setup correctly.
    Dunno why it just won't display jsp pages and kept saying compiler error...

  • Memory Error with Tomcat 4.1

    I have a Tomcat 4.1 installation on a Linux 7.2 box. Tomcat uses
    mod_jk with Apache. We are currently in a development phase and change alot of jsp's on a daily basis. Eventually it seems that Tomcat runs out of memory for the compilations and gives the following message:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    An error occurred at line: -1 in the jsp file: null
    Generated servlet error:
    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
    The system is out of resources.
    Consult the following stack trace for details.
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    After Tomcat is restarted everything appears to to be okay for a time. Eventually this problem will come back. The problem appears to be only when jsp files are changed. Running jsp's ( which were previously compiled and have been unchanged) run just fine.
    In the /var/tomcat4/conf/tomcat4.conf file I have the following command
    uncommented:
    JAVACMD="$JAVA_HOME/bin/java -Xms6m -Xmx100m"
    I am running java 1.4.1 on the Linux box.

    I was looking at the Jakarta web site and under the Tomcat4.1 documentation it gives a description of what is new in 4.1. It states:
    Rewritten Jasper JSP page compiler

  • Java 64-bit Windows 7 - Error with Tomcat Install

    Downloaded and ran jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe on a Win host (Dell PowerEdge R610 with 16 Core 2.27 GHz Intel Xeon) running Windows 7 64-bit. The website said if you're running a 64-bit Windows OS then download that file.
    When I run the command "java -version" it says,
    "C:\Users\plozanci>java -version
    java version "1.6.0_20"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)"
    I'm trying to install Apache Tomcat 6.0.26. Getting the error: "[206 javajni.c] [error] %1 is not a valid Win32 application."
    After searching the web, it looks like the Tomcat is looking for a 64-bit JRE but encountering a 32-bit version. I thought that the jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe file had the 32-bit & 64-bit versions. If this is true, how do I get Tomcat to use the right version?
    If its false, where is the 64-bit version for Windows 7?

    No. They are separate installers. The 32bit will run on a 64bit OS, but it is not 64bit. If you need the 64bit, you will need to download the 64bit installer.
    You will need: jre-6u20-windows-x64.exe
    Go: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
    select: Download JRE
    select: Windows x64
    Happy downloading!

    I have put the castor-1.3.1.jar file in plugin folder .Then also same error.I can see the BindXmlDescripto.class file in the jar.
    what could be the reason.

    You need to put any associated jar files in the WEB-INF/lib directory. That should fix your problem.
    The Developers Guide section on "Create a Plugin" describes what goes in the WEB-INF/classes/plugins and what goes in WEB-INF/lib

  • Error In Tomcat But Not In WebLogic

              I have a .war file that runs perfectly in WebLogic 7.0. Today I tried to run that
              same .war in Tomcat 4.0.6. Unfortunately, it did not run. I get the following
              error:
              java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot forward after response has been committed
              Now, I know what this error means, but I don't know why I would get it when I
              run in Tomcat but not WebLogic. Does WebLogic do something to "insulate" me from
              this error that perhaps Tomcat does not do?
              Aidan

              The effect to use <jsp:forward> or RequestDispatcher.forward is different between
              BEA and Tomcat (even Websphere). Weblogic stores the output in a buffer, before
              the buffer reaches the limit, you can call those forward methods without obvious
              problems. Tomcat (and Websphere I ever tested) is not so tolerable. If you have
              send out something via Servlet writer or JSPWriter, or have something like HTML
              tags/text before forwards, chances are big to encounter the exceptions you have.
              So I use more include methods to assemble my JSPs and servlets, for the purpose
              of portability.

    response.reset();At least you should obtain the outputstream AFTER the reset. If that doesn't fix, then check everything in the chain before this code.

    plz help me out guys...

    <servlet>
      <servlet-name>mks</servlet-name>
      <servlet-class>mukesh_test.WEB-INF.classes.mks</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
      <servlet-name>mks</servlet-name>
      <url-pattern>/mukesh_test/mks</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>1) To avoid confusion, I would not use mks for the <servlet-name>. It's a fake name internal to your web.xml file anyway, so be creative and use something like: Flying Tigers.
    2)
    <servlet>
      <servlet-name>Flying Tigers</servlet-name>
      <servlet-class>mukesh_test.WEB-INF.classes.mks</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
      <servlet-name>Flying Tigers</servlet-name>
      <url-pattern>/mukesh_test/mks</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>The stuff between the <servlet-class> tags is wrong. You need to put the "fully qualified class name of your class" between the <servlet-class> tags. For instance, if your file mks.java (why are you using lower case names for classes?) does not have a package statement at the top of the file, then the fully qualified name of your class is: mks. On the other hand, if mks.java has a package statement at the top of the file like this:
    package com.example;
    then the fully qualified name of your class would be: com.example.mks. In addition, if you had that package statement at the top of mks.java, your .class file would need to be placed in the directory: .../mukesh_test/WEB-INF/classes/com/example/.
    3)
    <servlet>
      <servlet-name>Flying Tigers</servlet-name>
      <servlet-class>mks</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
      <servlet-name>Flying Tigers</servlet-name>
      <url-pattern>/mukesh_test/mks</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>The url-pattern is also fake. The whole idea is to hide your actual directory structure from hackers, so specifying your real directory structure there means that the url will also appear on your web page. And if the url appears on your web page, anyone can see it by clicking on View/Source in their browser. Use a fake directory and a fake file name instead:
    <servlet>
      <servlet-name>Flying Tigers</servlet-name>
      <servlet-class>mks</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
      <servlet-name>Flying Tigers</servlet-name>
      <url-pattern>/Animals.do</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>That means your html page would call the servlet using the url: Animals.do. The extension .do is a common extension given to fake file names.
    4) There's a forum here specifically for servlets called: Java Servlets.
