JavaFX Beta 7 slow on OS X

I am running the JavaFX Beta 7 on OS X (10.6). I have the correct version of Java. It runs, but very, very slow. Mouse clicks take over a second to be recognized. Dragging nodes around in my application, which works perfectly on Windows, is very slow (lags of 3 seconds plus). Is this normal behaviour, or am I doing something wrong?

Do you have access to JIRA? If so, can you open http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-17841 and run the attached SimpleMouse.java test case?
It's a very simple use case, that uses low level JFX framework to measure (very unscientifictly) the number of mouse events per sec. When you run the test case, take a look at the Window's title and tell us what numbers you see - the number should be at around 60, assuming you move the mouse fast enough.
This way we can determine whether the issue you're seeing is at the higher or lower level of JFX framework.
cheers

  • Searching for a low-cost plug for doing better slow motion clips.

Where can I find a low-cost or free plug-in for doing better slow motion clips? I produce alot of sports videos and use FCPHD but am looking for better quality. I am not necessarily looking for time-remapping (it confuses the ** out of me). Just want to simply slow down clips and not be as choppy as FCP turns out.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Can anyone tell me why javaFX better than applet?

I just have read the example of javaFX.And I have a question.
From the example.I don't see any good in javaFX.below is my opinion:
    1.It seems like that the javaFX application is deploy as a applet or jnlp.This is what swing can also do;
2.javaFX's expression is sucks. Why don't use xml to declare the UI? I think as the application becomes larger,it is so difficult to maintain the project. But if I use swing or applet,I think it is better for me to maintain the project using oop.
3.I think what javaFX can do is also can be done by swing, why javaFX?
any apply is appreciated, thanks very much

    Hi
    1. JavaFx it is build over the Java2D and Swing. In fact it can not run without this 2 component ( at least now ). So what you can do in JavaFX you can also do on Swing and Java2D
    2. I don't think xml syntax it is good to describe stuff like this . XML was design to store data not actions. When you design user interface you must declare what components or shape do you want to draw on the screen but also you must write the interaction between them . I don't think you can do this easy and nice in XML. Look at the Flex approach . They used for declaration of the GUI an XML and for comportment ActionScript. I don't like this because i must learn and study two "languages" to make a GUI.I've preferred one language. As you said it is better to use OOP . How can you do OOP in XML in a nice way ?
    3. Because in JavaFX we do can more things easily . Look at this example : [http://silveiraneto.net/2008/07/31/javafx-creating-a-sphere-with-shadow/] . I don't think you can achieve the same results with Swing and Java2D with the same code line number.
Another difference between JavaFX and Swing is the syntax. The Sun want to create a language that can be used by designer and by programmer . The Swing can not be used by a designer . JavaFX used a more natural syntax. For example if you want to insert a shape in an array you must type in JavaFX :
insert Circle{radius:10} into array_variable . As you see it is more natural this syntax than Java equivalent.
Another difference it is how easy you can do things in JavaFX correctly . When you program in Java2D and Swing you must know very good the architecture of this components if you want to work correctly . You must know what is the Event Dispatch Thread and how you can used it . You must how you can work with multiple threads in Java2D and Swing . In JavaFX you don't need this . All of the tricks it is done by JavaFX ( not in this release . I hope the final release it will contains all these tricks) .
    Best regards

  • CS6 beta slow refresh issue.

    Hi all!
I'm finding the CS6 beta really rather slow in some ways. I have a picture with an original image layer, a greyscale layer on top of that and some adjustment layers on top of that. If I turn on an off the visibility of any of those upper layers in the layers palette the display refreshes in horizontal lines, chunk ***** chunk across the screen. Takes about two seconds to totally refresh. CS5.5 is instant. Are others seeing this issue? Some things seem much faster but this is a big enough irritation to maybe be a deal breaker in terms of upgrading. Is this something that is unique to me of are others seeing this too?

If the Catalyst package agrees to install it will work with your card.  It will tell you if your card is not supported.  I think the latest drivers support all Radeon HD 4000 series cards.
Your card is old enough and slow enough that you might want to consider upgrading to something modern to best be able to run state of the art grahics editing software.

  • JavaFx applet slow to load in IE

I've been working through a few tutorials using javaFx with Netbeans 6.5 and found a problem when I load the finished applications from my website. Applications load through Firefox in about a minute (a bit slow) but generally take about 20 minutes to load in IE - not acceptable. Is there an issue with javafx and IE or do I need to set something in Netbeans before loading finished application to website.
    Here's an example
    http://www.site9.co.uk/MyClockProject.html
    Thanks
    Paul

Turn on the Java Console for your Java installation using Java Preferences in control panel.
Once the java console starts up when you visit the page, click on it and press '5', this turns up the logging
You should now see it making network connections to the remote site.
When using JavaFX you'll find that the JNLP file that you download has a dependancy on another jnlp file hosted at Sun, that in turn has a list of dependancies that need downloading.
Its conceivable that using IE there is an issue with retrieving these files, hopefully the increased log levels will indicate it.
(For instance, perhaps your IE is using one proxy server and Firefox is using another??) Just grasping at straws.
Also, confirm that Firefox and IE are using the same JVM, the java console will give you an indication of that.

  • Flip4Mac Beta, Slow WMV load time?

Just wondering if anyone else who is using Flip4Mac Beta Universal is experiencing slow load time when loading a WMV movie file. I loaded a 1920x1200 606MB video file and that might be why. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing slow WMV load time.

Like you I've noticed that when working with larger media files it'll slow down loading and other aspects. Especially moving through said files by fast forward/reverse.
I wouldn't exactly call it too bad though. QT native files get slowed down the larger they are too.
    Don't forget it's still a Beta.

  • TSAM Beta, slow

I think that TSAM manager is a little slow, I set up the Xmx value to 128M and Xmn to 64. No change,
    - Can the server mode flag help?
    - Is there any other parameters in Java who can speed it up.
Ofcourse is also machine dependent, but my machine is not that slow.
Will I remember it, not a big issue but some verification dialogboxes need a correction when it comes to text who always is on the right side.
    Regards
    Mats

    Hi Mats,
You may need to use '-Xms256m -Xmx1024m'. The server mode is helpful. When TSAM generates the first chart, the web server will load the necessary classes, it needs some time to do that.
Please let us know if you have any other issues.

  • Windows home, ie9 beta slow (hate it), download firefox-asy run-dnld comp-asks for agmin pswd-typed in-box goes away-nothing happens and cannot be found on system to run

how can i get it to run and get rid of ie9

no luck i cannot get anything out of firefox. it just looks like it going to lunch but then even that stops after a few seconds. anything else i can do? should i try to go into programs and uninstall it and then reinstall it again?
another problem i just found (like i need anymore) a solution that someone gave me when i had problems lunching fireforx a while ago was to download the latest version of firefox and save it. then i had to go into my program files and find the file mozilla/firefox and delete it and then find the firefox i saved and finish the download which fixed whatever problem was causing the firefox to not lunch. now when i tried to do the same i cannot. the file that has mozilla firefox in it when i try to delete won't let me it says i have to have premission. so i go into the properties and see the permissions it list it as CREATOR OWNER but it only has permission to do certain thing in the folder like subfolers etc so therefore i cannot delete it. when i try to delete the creator owner or even change the premissions for it it won't let me. i do not even know where this creator owner came from. i am the only one that has use of my computer. like i said i am not very computer smart so any help u can give me please make sure they are detailed. i appreicate all u have done so far. i just want my firefox back.

  • 30p DVX Slow Mo in a 29.97 timeline?

I'm trying to get some better slow motion footage (shooting 30p and slowing it in a 24p timeline as many suggest) The problem is that all other footage has been shot 24p (not advanced) and I am not working in a true 24p FCP timeline(the rest of my footage has been captured at 29.97 fps).
Is there an easy way to still get the better quality slow-mo without converting everything to a 24p timeline or am I just going to have to deal with it? If so, any good tricks to improving 24p slow mo (I have tried deinterlacing but not much beyond that)
    Thanks.

    imac g5 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4)

If you really want quality slow motion, run, don't walk to borisfx.com and buy continuum... in this set of filters, there is a dandy speed changer called "optical flow"... it's incredible. There are other packages out there that do much better than any NLE with slo mo as well, but the boris plugin is a better value because it comes with a ton of other goodies... Boris Red also contains this plugin plus a ton more... it competes with After Effects actually. But the Continuum set is really great.
You can remove the non advanced pull down pattern in Cinema tools too then you could edit in a 23.98 fps sequence setting... But putting the 29.97 in a 23.98 sequence setting has got to be a pain.... lots o renders right? If it were me, I'd live with a 29.97 sequence setting or do the export from compressor to remove the 2:3:2:3 pulldown pattern you've shot.
I've never heard that putting 29.97 material in a 24fps sequence improves slow motion though... how did you come by this information? I don't believe it would do anything near what the optical flow plugin will do... in fact I've never seen better slow mo, looks as if the camera was truly over cranked.

  • Working in a jFrame - overriding paint

Hey guys, currently I'm programming a game in Java.
    I use a JFrame with a CustomJPanel.
In my CutomJPanel i override the Paint method.
This is working well, i have something about 200FPS, but it's still simple.
Today I read a Article about JavaFX and saw it has GPU Support.
So if i use a CustomJFXPanel in my JFrame instead, are I just getting the advantage of GPU-Support by it?
Or do i lose the benefits be overriding the Paint Method?

This question cannot be answered in a simple yes/no way. It depends on the kind of graphics operation that you want to perform. In some areas JavaFX is slower than good old AWT. So it depends.

  • Using Java SE 6 with Java FX 2.2 on Mac OS X

    Hello,
Has anyone tried using Java SE 6 with JavaFX 2.2 on Mac OS X?
JavaFX 2.2 System Requirements doc states that "For Mac OS X, use Java SE 7 Update 6 for Mac OS X. JavaFX 2.2 has not been formally tested with Apple's Java SE 6 implementation for Mac OS and support is offered only when used with Java SE 7 Update 6 or later.".
So I guess that means Java SE 6 may or may not work well with JavaFX 2.2 on Mac.
For some 'bugs' in my app, they simply don't exist if I switch from Java 7 to Java 6?
One such bug is mentioned in this thread: Re: Unable to play mp3 files with non-English alphabets/characters in the name
Can people with experiences in this area please share your thoughts?
Has Oracle done additional Java SE 6 and JavaFX 2.2 compatibility testings since the JavaFX 2.2 System Requirements doc was published (http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/system_requirements_2-2/jfxpub-system_requirements_2-2.htm)?
    Thanks.

Java 6 on Mac is not supported officially and not going to be supported.
Standalone JavaFX app might work as JDK 6 on Mac was used as dev platform before JDK 7 on Mac became available.
But this was mostly on older Mac OS X version (up to 10.6) and you may easily hit something that was fixed in Java 7 to support JavaFX better.
Webstart/Plugin will not work. You need JRE 7 from Oracle.

  • Mac OS 9?

I am saving up to buy a used apple iBook. The one I have my eye on is an iBook G3 for $300. I am used to a new iMac, with Mac OS X.... The software right before Leopard. Anyway, it has Mac OS 9.1. I don't think I can update it anytime soon, (leopard is 129 dollars, and I don't even have 300 yet!) and all I want the laptop for is to type my stories on, record my guitar on Garageband, and maybe some internet.
Any advice? What about garageband on a computer that old? Will it work?

Whoa! Better slow down and change your plans, hurryup! The minimum system requirements for even version 1.0 of GarageBand (part of iLife '04) are as follows:
"GarageBand 1.0 requires Mac OS X version 10.2.6 or later. GarageBand 1.0 can be installed on a Macintosh G3 computer with 600 MHz. GarageBand requires at least 256 megabytes (MB) of memory. For use of Software Instruments, a Macintosh G4 or better is strongly recommended. In order to make full use of all features of GarageBand, a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels or more is recommended. You need approximately 2.5 GB of free disk space to install the GarageBand application and media."
So GarageBand is definitely a nonstarter. OS X is too: with its standard 3.2GB or 6GB hard drive, the original iBook you're considering wouldn't even have enough disk space to make it worth installing OS X on: you'd immediately have to replace the hard drive with a much larger one just to have room for a few applications and a little data.
As a machine for OS 9-based writing, email and web surfing, the 300MHz iBook would be fine. As a machine to run OS X on without upgrading its hard drive and RAM, no. And GarageBand? Not a chance.
EDIT: Furthermore, $300 would be too much to pay for that model.

  • Start routine to filter the duplicate records

    Dear Experts
I have two questions regarding the start routine.
    1) I have a characteristic InfoObject with transactional InfoSource. Often the 'duplicate records' error happens during the data loading. I'm trying to put a start routine in the update rule to filter out the duplicate records.
After searching the SDN forum and SAPHelp, I use the code as:
    DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES FROM DATA_PACKAGE COMPARING KEY1 KEY2 KEY3.
In my case, the InfoObject has 3 keys: SOURSYSTEM, /BIC/InfoObjectname, OBJVERS. My code is:
DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES FROM DATA_PACKAGE COMPARING SOURSYSTEM /BIC/InfoObjectname OBJVERS.
When checking the code I got message: 'E:No component exists with the name "OBJVERS".' So I only included the first 2 keys. But the routine does not work. The duplicate error is still happening. What is missing in this start routine?
    2) Generally, for a start routine, do I really need to include the data declaration, ITAB or WA, SELECT statement etc.?
Do I have to use the statement below or just simply one line?
    LOOP AT DATA_PACKAGE.
    IF DATA_PACKAGE.....
    ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.
Thanks for your help in advance, Jessica

    Hello Jessica,
if it won't be possible for you to get unique data from the very beginning, there is still another way to manage this problem in a start routine.
Sort ... and delete adjacent ... must remain. Further on build up an internal table of type data_package, but defined with STATICS instead of DATA. This i-tab stays alive for all data-packages of one load. Fill it with the data of the transferred data-packages, and delete from every new data-package all records which already are in the statics i-tab. Alternatively you could do the same with a Z-(or Y-)database-table instead of the statics i-tab.
It will probably cost some performance, but better slow than wrong data.
    Regards,
    Ernst
