JavaHelp for web app?

Hello,
I'm trying to include JavaHelp for our web application.
Has anyone used this tool or any other tool with javascript for displaying help for web apps?
I tried to follow the browser demo that is in applet and comes with javahelp zip. It worked fine for me, but when tried to follow the same setting for the web application, I am getting this error.

Yes, as long as you conform to what the HelpSet specifies you can use Servlets / JSPs.

Custom module templates for Web Apps

Just wanting to see if there's anyone out there who knows if the custom module templates from the September release are available for Web Apps? I can't seem to get them to work.
When placing {module_webapps,8168,a template=”/custom/wap-contract.tpl”} I get a "No Items Found" response. I would appreciate help as this would be very useful in building Web Apps and I can't find documentation on it

They do work with Web Apps, I've been able to use it successfully. Here is the only documentation I can find on it so far:

Curious though, when you get "No items found" that means there are no web app items to show. So we don't really know if your custom template worked or not. If you can get some items to show up and they use the default layout, then we know something is wrong.

Problems with "save for web" app low quality messed up images

Please help I have never had a problem with the "save for web" application before (over three years) I am currently running A.I. cs3 on windows vista. in the past whenever I save anything this way the images were always clean. as of yesterday everything I try to save through the save for web app the images are very low quality all the vector has jagged edges, it is very low rez looking and the file sizes are very small, half the size they normaly would be. What did I do to change the settings or better yet how can I get it back to the way it was.

Thank you for your help I moved the folder but it still did not fix this problem. it is also not just the jpg option under the save for web app but all the setting ie. gif, png, ect. ect. Also the the files sizes are much less, example I exported a design as a jpg with the quality setting about 6 the file size was 374kb when I exported the same design through the save for web app the file size was only 45 kb on the quilty setting of 100. further more in the preview screen of "save for web" the original images as well as the optimized both look messed up. The "save for web" app has always worked for me in the past never a problem and I use this app alot so it is very important.

Set Disable or Expiry Date for web app item via Edit form

I have a user that wants to delete a web app item from a secure zone edit form, but they are not the owner of that web app item. All items in the web app were imported via a csv file and hence do not have a 'submitted by' user id assigned.
Is it possible to Disable a web app item using a web app Edit form? or alternatively, is it possible to set the Expiry Date of a web app item using a web app Edit form?

Sorry Brian, but I'm not sure that answers my question.
Sure, I can create a single web app item for every single client of my customer, manually.
Sure, I can create and 'allocate' that single web app item to each customer manually.
I pray the customer doesn't have hundreds of clients. And I would have to teach my customer how to do this convoluted process for every new client.
But the one thing this doesn't do is answer the question of updating the value of units held.
It seems the order module remains the closes to what I am looking for in that it allows an equation, and is automatically customer specific.
However, I am looking for a way to achieve a single daily update by the customer as to the value of the units held by each client. This can be done via the product module - update price. But this does not update existing orders. Exisitng orders are fixed at the price on the day. The customer wants to update the value once, in one place, and have that amend all existing 'orders' to reflect the new total value of units held by each individual client, and to have this show in each client's member area.
If you can think of a way of doing this in webapps or via the order module, this is what I am looking for. Anyone?

"Edit templates" feature not working properly for web apps in Dreamweaver CS6?

This is along with the web apps tag list not appearing in the Data tab of the Business Catalyst side palette.
However, it works fine with the existing announcement module.
Is this feature unavailable for use with web apps, or am I doing something wrong?

We have a bug that prevents correct web app matching if the web app name contains ' ' (space), + (plus), '(', ')', '[', ']' .
In order to work around the bug please remove space, plus or parentheses from the webapp name.

Seperate Log file for web app

I am running a web app under WS 6.1 and uses the java logging.
I i turn the logging to "finest" on the virtual server, i get my app finest and the vertual server finest in the same file!
What i need is to seperate these 2 in two files.
or is it possible to say that for the package com.foo.bar i wanted to be finest, but the rest i wanted to be warnning?

I don't know the answer to your "separate log per web-app" question (sorry :-(, but regarding your property changes -- if you are referring to the XML configuration files (like "orion-web.xml"), then they do not get overwritten when you redeploy. You must either edit them manually, or delete all the files/directories created when you first deployed your application before redeploying -- that way, they will be created again when you deploy.
By the way, why are you so reluctant to upgrade to the latest version of OC4J?

Detail on High Availability options for Web Apps

Hi,
I do really struggle to locate actual information on Azure Availability offerings / capabilities...as an Infrastructure Architect it has bugged me for years now with Azure offerings!
Something that simply states the availability within any local DC and options for true HA over 2 or more DC's.
We are moving away from using Web Roles to Web Apps for solutions for our clients. I understand the principles of fault domains, etc. with Web Role requirements for min. of 2 to (mostly) avoid MS update disruption within a single DataCenter, but cannot locate
similar info. with regard to Web Apps.
Really appreciate if someone could point me to some appropriate detail as I've failed....
(Also, cannot find anything on DocumentDB....)

Hi,
High Availability of a running service always comes with a cost, and priorities will be app-specific. If it's the web tier, then you may indeed want to consider hosting in multiple geo's. If it's a backend processing tier, sometimes it's "ok" to
let a service go offline, as long as requests are queued up. If it's the storage system (preventing queueing of messages), perhaps an alternate queue in a different data center could be available for redundancy purposes.

Compiler Options for Web App

I am working on a training course that deploys a web application to a web server of my choice. I have Tomcat setup and I also have used the embedded server in JDeveloper 10g. There are several exercises that I have partial code written. When I try to deploy the app to test one of the exercises I get compiler errors on other parts of the web app.
Is there any way I can tell the compiler to only compile those things that have changed or still deploy with errors? I was able to get it to deploy by commenting out several pieces of code, but this is not my optimal solution.

yes, mod_plsql for Apache (the core of Oracle 9iAS) allows you to make PL/SQL calls from a browser environment and return HTML. the entire Oracle Portal product is written using this mechanism.
learning JSP from scratch, and learning how to manage security, database connections and record sets would be a daunting task. if you want to learn Java, great. it's my favority web language. however, if you have PL/SQL experience and a need to get information to the web, use mod_plsql and generate dynamic content via PL/SQL and the database.

Blend for Visual Studio's HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor only usable for Windows 8 apps, NOT for web apps?

In the process of learning Visual Studio (VS) and ASP.NET, I initially thought that I could use Blend for VS's seemingly great HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor to visually design the HTML pages and CSS for a web app developped with VS, whether it be with ASP.NET MVC
or Django (using Python Tools for Visual Studio).
But now it dawned on me that Blend for VS seems to only be meant to design HTML/CSS for native Windows
8 apps, and not
web apps.
Can someone confirm that this is indeed the case?

PS: Maybe this a dumb newbie question, but from the outside, it seems rather counter-intuitive to offer a top-notch tool for web
standards (HTML/CSS) edition (Blend for VS), all integrated with a top-notch tool for web development (VS) but prohibiting the web developer community to leverage the productivity gains of both
the former and the integration. This is especially puzzling given that the latest components of the ASP framework (MVC, SPA projects):
- Pushes for reliance on HTML elements and CSS instead of ASP elements and Skin files;
- VS apparently also does not provide a visual design page view for ASP.MVC projects, which is sure to make many development teams wary of migrating from web forms to MVC.

I believe this the case, but I'm not familiar with asp.net development. As you point out: html is html so you can edit and copy the code. That said, the Windows Store apps forums are specifically about writing Windows Store apps. For discussion

Login prompt appears for web app when sql db is not on same server as WebAp

Hi,
I am deploying a VS2005 web application on a server (which has crytalReportsviewer); lets call that server A. The database the crystal reports access are on a different server, server B. In this scenario, when I run the web application, and try to bring up the reports on the web page, I get login prompt. Even if I provide valid login credentials (I have set up a user for this purpose the behavior is erratic; for some reports the report is displayed and for others it errors out with 'unknown error' message.
If I put the sql db on the same server, it works fine.
I use the crystal reports application to update the database source. When I do this, I use Ole db connection and set the 'integrated security' to true. But setting the integrated security to true does not bypass the login screen on the web app.
My question is, how do I set up the report database parameters (connection string etc) so that the user of the web application does not have to go through the login screen when the web application and the sql db does not reside on the same server.

We can only get the start/default page to display with the

Last week I was looking through a javascript primer on the
Web. There are lots of them.
I think I read that one window can refer to another by its
name.
So after you open the WebHelp window (call it 'A'), and then
another window ('B'), a script in the new window can check to see
if window A is open and, if so, to close it. If there is no window
A, the script does nothing.
Also, there may be a way to build the closer into the script
that launches the new window.
I was having this problem when I was trying several
approaches to context help. I mentioned it to the developer of the
main app, and after he built my WebHelp into the package, the
problem went away.
By the way, our approach makes it look like we're simply
substituting the new topic for the one in the open WebHelp topic
pane. I wanted to limit the disturbance on the user's screen and
let her / him navigate within Webhelp without having to go back to
the main app and click the help button on another screen. Also,
this is useful when a topic has links to other topics in the same
help package. They all come up in the same place.

We have multiple web apps for MySite, collaboration portal and search centre. When users click on different URLs and access different portals non IE browsers prompt for credentials multiple times for
each Web app.

This is basically the way its designed to work. Kerberos will help with authentication between different site collections on the same web app, but not different web apps. Since you have multiple web apps Kerberos Delegation of credentials does
not apply. It only happens on non-IE browsers because IE can be set to pass the OS credentials in the background by default. For other browsers you normally have to save a web site's credentials.

SetDataSource not working for Web App Access database

I have a web app developed using VS 2008 that is using Crystal Reports to produce bar graphs. The data is held in an Access database. I developed the report using an Access database located in the App_Data directory.

I have checked the DataSet after the fill and everything appears to be correct. There is only one row in the table
However the report is showing the entire table.
I have also tried setting the datasource to the datatable of the dataset with the same result.
How can I get this to work?

Hi Bob,
You stated that you designed the report against the access database itself correct?
Are there usenames and passwords required to access the db?
What looks like is happening is if you designed the report against the database instead of against an xsd file (which if you are using datasets should be done) then it has the access info stored so just hits it and pulls all the data.
Try outputting the schema of the dataset and do a set location in the designer to the xsd instead of the access db then try passing the dataset.
