Javascript error prevents TOC, Index, Search from displaying

I generated webhelp from my RoboHelp HTML project and got a javascript error (this.maCom[...]' is null or not an object) when viewing the result. See below for the full error text. As a result the TOC, index, and search do not display. The javascript error can be found in the browser status bar which indicates "Error on page." I found that if I viewed the result from robohelp, the browser that launched shows the TOC, index, and search, but has a security warning about a restriction from running scripts or ActiveX controls. However, when I move the generated webhelp to my production server, the help does not have the security warning, but does produce the error so that the TOC, index, and search do not show. I had performed the same process to generate webhelp about 8 months ago but did not have any error whatsoever. As a matter of fact, that version is still in production and works fine.
In my research of the problem, I found this is the same error as forum message 4063663 (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4063663). I didn't have a second system with RoboHelp to be able to get another whphost.js, however, I diff'd the generated file with the one found in template_stock and found only two lines different. Those differences were only replacing a couple of variables with static text so I don't think replacing this file will solve any problem for me. This was the only forum message I could find that addressed this issue.
I was originally on RoboHelp 8.0.0 when I first encountered the problem, but went ahead and patched to 8.0.2 and still had the same problem. I even created a new simple project. Once I moved the simple project to the production server, it also would not display the TOC, index, and search.
The odd thing is that just 8 months ago, I used the same process to generate (on 8.0.0) the webhelp without any error. The only thing I can come up with is there was a WinXP patch that affected the webhelp generation. By the way, I also tried this in Chrome and that also produced the error.
I'm not sure what is causing this problem or how to resolve the problem. Any one have any ideas?

After further research and tests, I discovered the Security Update for RoboHelp 8 and 9 (http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-23.html) posted as an announcement that I had not seen before. I had used the updates feature in the product, but that said I was up to date and did not include this update.
The two javascript files in this patch solve the problem. The TOC, index, and search now display.
Update:
As I further researched the problem (while writing this response), I found files that were newer than the latest security patches I was aware of. In addition, I discovered that my security organization decided to patch with APSB12-04 without me knowing about it. This patch is why my 8.0.0 installation magically quit working. As I look at the security announcement, the bulletin did not include any prerequisites of specific versions the patch can be applied to (8.0.0, 8.0.1, or 8.0.2). Adobe, please give more information on the bulletins so that organizations that auto-deploy will be forced to know what is running before updating. Information like whether they apply to all Robohelp 8 versions or just a specific version. If APSB12-04 was meant to be applied to all 8 versions, then it did not work. It actually broke my installation of 8.0.0 for the generation of webhelp as well as subsequent installation of 8.0.1 and 8.0.2. It looks like they did a better job for APSB11-23. Maybe the security updates should be some sort of service pack that has an installation and a back-out process. Right now, my security organization has overwritten the files based on the specification in the security bulletin.
I am going to try to patch with APSB12-04 again since I have updated the base to 8.0.2 to see if I can still generate webhelp. If I can't view the TOC, I'll have to remove it once again and be "out of compliance."

  • Javascript Error while executing BEx querry from browser

    Hi Folks
We have been getting a number of Javascript errors while executing BEx querries from the browser.
The various errors that we have been getting are:
    'SAPBWItemCatalog' is undefined
'SAPBWJSgdo' is null or not an object
    'SAPBWShortCutCatalog' is undefined
We have already looked at SAP Note 783496 and validated the solution.
Is there some specific settings that needs to be maintained for this?

    Hi Sandip,
Just spent 2 hours chasing this one so I know how frustrating it is.
    Solution:-
Check mime service in SICF - dafault_host/sap/bw/mime - if it's greyed out activate it.

  • My updated help file only opens the TOC/Index/Search

I have to update an old project that uses WinHelp, so I installed RH X5 on an old XP machine. The original help file always opened in a 2-pane window with the ToC on the left and the default topic on the right. My "updated" help file only opens the ToC/Index/Search screen in a single pane. How do I get the 2-pane window to appear?
This is what I'm looking for

I have edited the topic title. The idea is to spell out the problem in the body.

  • TOC, Index, Search content not loading in FireFox 3.0 +

    Hi,
I have created from RH 8 a merged Webhelp system (1 master, 2 children - based on Peter Grainge's posted procedure). It works fine from IE, and on my system, from FireFox 3.0 and up.
The problem is, that when deployed at the customer's site, the TOC, Index, and Search content does not load in FireFox. All frames display (Nav, contents, and the top frame), but the content for the TOC, Index, and Search does not load.
This only happens at the customer site. The webhelp system works okay in IE.
I have checked and we are running the same javascript version, have the same security settings in FireFox set.
I looked on Peter's site and implemented the redirect fix for FireFox that he has posted, but that hasn't seemed to fix the problem.
They aren't running any special toolbars (like Google toolbar). I am checking on add ons.
Does anyone have any ideas on what else I might check or better yet what might be causing the problem?
    Thank you,
    Tannis

    Willam
A merge will not work properly unless all the projects have been generated once. After that it should not matter that a project is missing, indeed simply not publishing one of the projects to the server is one of the features of merging making it easy to supply different customers with different content.
I wonder if the problem you saw was because that project had not been generated.
    Tannis
Sorry, the reference to AIR help was because you mentioned Snippet 141 which is AIR specific. I didn't look further back in the thread.
You said that the start page of a child project opens the tripane window with the default topic but you do not get the TOC etc. That rules out the merge being the problem. I am inclined to the view that the server is the issue so get your client to load the published output from my merge demo as that is a known quantity. Ask them to open each child project in turn and then finally the merge.

  • RH7 WebHelp Output Missing TOC, Index, Search

I updated my RH6 HTML project to RH7 HTML. When I publish,
everything looks good. I uploaded all project files to my company's
server, and a coworker saved those files to her computer. When my
coworker publishes WebHelp from her computer, the TOC, Index, and
Search components are missing. Can anyone assist? Thank you!

Thank goodness I found this thread!
I'm having the exact same issue. I'm using version 5.0.2 of
RoboHelp, and when I generate WebHelp (the collection of HTML
files) and test it on my PC, it works fine. When I copy the files
over to my company's server, my TOC is missing, Serch is missing,
    Index is missing.
I tested this with other PCs in my company, and some display
the content fine (from the server location), others don't.
I noticed that I get an error message "flash" at the bottom
of IE when I mouse over the TOC frame. It states "Load: class
WebHelp not found". I've double checked, and all of the files that
are generated on my PC are also in the same folder that I copied
    over to the server.
Could RoboHelp be having issues with certian servers, or
versions of IE w/ certain servers? This doesn't seem to be a
blanket issue with all users of this information, only some.

  • Javascript error preventing software install

I'm a Pro Tools user and I'm getting a Javascript error when I attempt to install an update for an AVID/Digidesign virtual instrument plugin called Transfuser. I downloaded the software directly to my Mac Pro got the error so I ran software updater and it brought the machine right up to date including Java but I'm still getting this:
"There was an error while evaluating Javascript for the package"
So AVID support asked me if I updated Javascript but I can't find a proper download link for it. I did an internet search for this error and found that it's quite common but nothing that helps me directly. I understand that Java and Javascript are not the same thing but AVID support mentioned that updating Java on my Mac would probably update both....though this is not clear. How can I fix this issue? I've never encountered it before and could use some help. You can see the DUC support thread I've got going here: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=278422
I tried an experiment: Booting into my cloned drive and installing and it worked. But still no way to install from there onto another volume....and I can't use Time machine because I've had it turned off since I've been using Carbon Copy Cloner. Time Machine has known issues with Pro Tools.
Seems to me it has something to do with the HD??? Any help on the matter would be most welcome.

    I don't see why you can't restore.
Ideal is to do a walk-thru and test what a restore is and does and such - when you have time and things are working.
When I restore, I format and then restore. Or you can erase.
with enough drives, there is almost no need unless there may be structural errors, or you want to move the system to a new larger or faster drive.
HELP menu in programs like Disk Utility plus it is quite easy
I am not audio or protools, more system maintenance type, and I have no idea why or what is different. But I do know that if I have a system that works, I would make a copy (clone) of it and keep it safe (and off line).
Having spare drives handy is a must, along with SuperDuper and Disk Warrior.
Clone with SuperDuper doesn't copy temp files, log and caches, which is great, those can be problematic and just take up space, and are best recreated fresh.
I would never say a drive is working 100% okay without also using Disk Warrior, maybe even TechTool Pro 5.
Just DO NOT rely on only Apple First Aid to tell you or keep a drive in tip top shape and working order - it doesn't and won't.
A newly formatted drive insures a number of things. You can also write zeros over the drive. A drive used by 10.6.3+ really should be formatted by Snow Leopard, especially system drives. Yes you can just install over Leopard and update, but it really isn't the same.
I buy a lot of drives, but I trust all 4 systems I have to WD VelociRaptors for the most part, built like SCSI drives use to with good low seeks and latency, and run cold but fast.
Also nice to have 4 systems so one can be used for testing or something or a job that takes a lot of time and leave me free.
I'd take your problem system, use SuperDuper (free for full clone, inexpensive $29 for "Smart Update" feature) and clone it to a newly initialized drive; plus run Disk Warrior 4.2 against it first. Then run from that.
I've had three WD drives out of 30 fail, all WD Caviar, two were "Black" series, one was repaired and works fine now thanks to WD's Windows utility. But I won't use Caviar drives except for storage and triple backups now.
I was worried that going back and forth with different versions of AVID apps might handle data files differently, like how Microsoft changes Excel/Word .docx files.

  • Problems - Javascript errors, when I login Portal from Internet.

    I have the following problem:
In order to login SAP Portal 7.0, externally, I created a URL in  public host like http://km.mycompany.com,
and that URL redirects me to my portal URL, like http://myserver.mycompany.com:50000/irj., using SAP WebDispatcher
The problem is that if logon to http://myserver:50000/irj (from inside my LAN), I can navigate it OK.
But if I login Portal from the Internet (outside LAN), I have in several pages Portal Javascript errors. I analyzed that these errors occur for example on page User Admin, or the Webdynpro Administrator.
After analyzing a bit, I found that pages that give me javascript errors (for example, "SSR is undefined" or " 'me' is undefined", that dont let me to click buttons or see gifs images, or display /nwa page) occurs in the pages that does not begin with "/irj" but with "/webdynpro/dispatcher. "
    any ideas ???

  • Error: prevented the text engine from being initialized

I am getting the following error when attempting to use the text tool with my photoshop (12.0) - windows 7.
"could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized"
I've attempted to follow some posts from others to fix without success.
There are two fonts in my fonts folder that are shortcuts - and the fonts don't exist in the folder. Also, I can't delete the shortcut font from the fonts folder.
(I'm posting this now... and might have a solution. Just in case, I want this conversation started.)
    TIA,

Usually that means that you have a corrupt font or a corrupt OS font cache.
See this document for more troubleshooting steps: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html
Also, make sure you have all the Photoshop updates installed.

    Hello Wiliam,
    Thank you for your reply.
You are right, the search and index are not working either. I knew about the Chrome issue when opened locally. If I follow the instructions on the website you mentioned, the webhelp will show the contents, but not the TOC, and the Index and Search do not work either. The same problem occurs on Firefox 3.6.3. I am not using Chrome Frame in Internet Explorer.
Basically, what I get is a blank TOC, a blank Index and the Search does not work. When I click on the "Error on page" yellow icon I get the error message I posted above. Any suggestions?
I've used RH 7 before and I never had this issue.

  • ToC, Index, Search appearing blank in RH8 Webhelp

Hello - I have been reviewing the forum questions and answers for about a year now - some great advice - but I can't seem to find an answer to my current problem, so I need to post it here.
I have recently upgraded our help system from RH7 to RH8. I generated Webhelp this week and all was well on my local system in both IE7 and FF3. The long list of every possible number and letter which was appearing in FF in the search column had disappeared and search was behaving exactly as I hoped. Nothing else looked anything other than perfect.
I made the submission to our engineering team and when it was integrated, I tested again. IE remains fine, but in FF, we get the "welcome" page, but an empty column where the ToC should appear. Same with the index - I can enter a keyword, but I get no results. Ditto for search.
Our test and production environments are different, obviously, than my local environment - I put the Webhelp output on an Apache server and all was well. It only breaks when it goes into the production environment.
I was told to tell you that our Apache server does a rewrite rule to Weblogic (9.2.3) - where, with the exception of the UGLY search results in FF from the RH7 Webhelp, all worked well with RH7 output. Our environment hasn't changed, so we believe that we may need to change something in a config file to accommodate changes in RH8. ( We made the changes to UTF-8 as recommended in earlier posts some months ago.)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Marla

    Hi again
For the Adobe forums search, I find you have to search twice. The first search shouldl bring back some results. What you want is to get to the initial results page.
Click the image below to see at full size.
Now you see a different page.
Again, click the image to see at full size.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

    Hi,
I'm new to using java.util.logging. • SSM Javascript error in Calendar  - Canu00B4t Execute from a freed script

    Hi,
we are running SSM 7.5, SP8.
Our business model uses Bica to get actual data from BW and E&A to have target values. PAS is updated correctly for the entire time period we have defined (monthly, year >= 2010) and the data is also correctly displayed in SSM user interface.
The problem we are having is related with the navigation in the calendar. When we want to fix a certain previous period (March 2011, for example) to display data, the following error is shown:
"Can't execude code from a freed script. URL http://sapbi01:50300/strategy/pilotworks/sccalendar2.htm Line #33".
Does any one of you ever faced a similar problem? We checked IE script options, review installation guides...but don't have a clue of what this can be related with.
    thank you
    Sandra

    Sandra,
When you talk about trying to fix a date for display, are you talking a default period that the user interface opens to? Or is the problem when an individual user tries to reset the calendar on the Scorecard page?
In PAS, there is a Document called LastDate that is set for what the date of the "latest" information displayed in the user interface. This document is automatically updated when data is loaded in E&A.
You could check your LastDate document in PAS. In PAS each model has their own documents. Click on Documents in the expanded view of your model in the left column, Click on List tab in right window, and double click LastDate to check what date the model is using. (When closing LastDate use File>Close).
If the LastDate looks fine, open up the End User Interface of SSM and see if you can create a Report, in the Reports tab with the date range. If the Report does not build there still could be other problems with the PAS Model.
If that is the case, go into Adminstration interface > Administration> Set System Defaults> Tracing. Enable BOTH PIP Trace and PAS Trace and then follow your steps to recreate the problem.
Then check your trace file in
[Drive]:\usr\sap\[your NetWeaver CE instance, like CE1]\J00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log
If you cannot read the logs, you should file a Support ticket with a detailed description of your problem and attach those trace files.
    Regards,
    Bob.

  • Javascript error when launching XFA pdf from browser

    Hi all,
I am trying to use my XFA PDF from a browser. On my local system I have  set up a web server and am launching my PDF from there. However, I am getting a ReferenceError with regards to one of my Javascript functions.
My PDF has dependency on a javascript file that resides in the Acrobat path as follows:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Javascripts\
When I use my PDF directly from an Acrobat instance, everything works fine. The issue comes up only when launching from server. How do I link the javascript file to my PDF?
Edit: The user is going to be launching the PDF from the server via a web browser. In such a case where do I place the javascripts?
    Help appreciated,
    Thanks

@George: thanks for the quick response!
My JS code contains a readFileIntoStream which I learnt is also to be run under privileged context. (still learning the ropes here.. ).  I have been trying to incorporate the JS code directly into the PDF to get around this privileged context..  but I am unable to find a non-privileged equivalent for readFileIntoStream..
Basically my users would be accessing the PDF from the server direct via the browser. For my testing purposes I am able to run the PDF directly from my desktop via an Acrobat instance without any hitch as the scripts are folder level like you mentioned. Is it possible for the users to be able to access the javascripts from anywhere on the server rather than directly from the PDF?  Please note, users will not be saving copies of the PDF on to their local machines (in which case we could have pushed the JS file along to their machines) . I need to ultimately run the PDF from browser.
    I hope I am clear..
    Thanks.
