Javascript function arguments

When using JavasScript code in ASP on Sun's server I have encountered a strange problem:-
Simple code to illustrate is
<%
function myClass()
this.myMethod=myClass_myMethod;
function myClass_myMethod(nNumber)
return nNumber+1;
var oObject=new myClass();
var nValue=oObject.myMethod(2);
%>
I am finding that the interpreter is not able to access the argument nNumber by name in myMethod.
Instead I have to use:
function myClass_myMethod()
var nNumber=myClass_myMethod.arguments[0];
return nNumber+1;
Any clues? Is it because the script is enclose in <% %> and not <SCRIPT runat=server> tags.

Hello,
Well this is more a pure javascript question than a HTML DB you should ask google.
But it depends what you are doing with your function, if each value is a specific variable then no your function will have to look like f(nul,null,null,1,null,null,null,.........) .
If you are using them to populate an js array you can iterate through your arguments or just provide the array are your argument.
Personally and I do know a little about javascript I would avoid like the plague any js function that requires 50 arguments ( i usally start looking at a different solution at abut 10 arguments) especially if most of them could be null, there absolutely has to be a better way to do it.
Like breaking up into smaller more specific functions or creating a js object that is more robust, agian you should ask google.

  • Using a variable in a js function argument

    Folks,
    This is very basic, but I still cannot get it...
    I have this js function in an ASP page:function MM_changeProp(objId,x,theProp,theValue) { //v9.0
      var obj = null; with (document){ if (getElementById)
      obj = getElementById(objId); }
      if (obj){
        if (theValue == true || theValue == false)
          eval("obj.style."+theProp+"="+theValue);
        else eval("obj.style."+theProp+"='"+theValue+"'");
    }i don't understand the function, as it was put in automatically by dreamweaver. right now, i am using this onclick event of an image:<div id="apDiv19" onclick="MM_changeProp('apDiv7','','backgroundColor','#FFFF00','DIV')"></div>the #FFFF00 is the color YELLOW. it is being passed to the theValue argument of the js. what i simply want to do is establish a global variable that will house a color string (like #FFFF00), and then use it in the function argument everytime i need the function. something like this:<div id="apDiv19" onclick="MM_changeProp('apDiv7','','backgroundColor',VARIABLE,'DIV')">i do not know how to do two things:
    1) initialize and assign the variable a value, and where to establish it (inside the script tags? in the head? in the body?)
    2) how to use the variable as an argument in the function
    any help greatly appreciated for this novice. thanks!

  • Javascript function not working in template-based html files

    Does anyone have any insight as to why the following function works only in the .dwt file but not in the related html files?
    *Note: it only works in the dwt file if I change the path of:

    Andy

    Wow - now I have a real doozy for you. That duplicate function has generated itself all on its own. The script in the template file is:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0
      var d=document; if(d.images){ if(!d.MM_p) d.MM_p=new Array();
        var i,j=d.MM_p.length,a=MM_preloadImages.arguments; for(i=0; i<a.length; i++)
        if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}
    function MM_swapImgRestore() { //v3.0
      var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x.oSrc;
    function MM_findObj(n, d) { //v4.01
      var p,i,x;  if(!d) d=document; if((p=n.indexOf("?"))>0&&parent.frames.length) {
        d=parent.frames[n.substring(p+1)].document; n=n.substring(0,p);}
      if(!(x=d[n])&&d.all) x=d.all[n]; for (i=0;!x&&i<d.forms.length;i++) x=d.forms[i][n];
      for(i=0;!x&&d.layers&&i<d.layers.length;i++) x=MM_findObj(n,d.layers[i].document);
      if(!x && d.getElementById) x=d.getElementById(n); return x;
    function MM_swapImage() { //v3.0
      var i,j=0,x,a=MM_swapImage.arguments; document.MM_sr=new Array; for(i=0;i<(a.length-2);i+=3)
       if ((x=MM_findObj(a[i]))!=null){document.MM_sr[j++]=x; if(!x.oSrc) x.oSrc=x.src; x.src=a[i+2];}
    // Comma separated list of images to rotate
    var imgs = new Array('images/header1.jpg','images/header2.jpg','images/header3.jpg');
    // delay in milliseconds between image swaps 1000 = 1 second
    var delay = 5000;
    var counter = 0;
    function preloadImgs(){
      for(var i=0;i<imgs.length;i++){
        MM_preloadImages(imgs[i]);
    function randomImages(){
      if(counter == (imgs.length)){
        counter = 0;
      MM_swapImage('rotator', '', imgs[counter++]);
      setTimeout('randomImages()', delay);
    </script>
    As you can see - no duplication.
    For some inexplicable reason, this is being added in to all the html pages based on the template:
    MM_swapImage('rotator', '', imgs[counter++]imgs[i]);
    function randomImages(){
      if(counter == (imgs.length)){
        counter = 0;
    Which explains why it works in the template file but not in any the html files. Of course, because the code is not in an editable region, I can't remove it manually from the html files. Have you ever heard of code generating itself in this manner? Or how to solve it?

  • Problem when calling more than 1 Javascript function

    Hello everybody,
    I am trying to disable fields based on the value in a Select List. There is a table in which values are stored to tell if a field should be disabled for the selected value. I have created an Application Process and a JavaScript function for each field.
    The problem is that only the first function is executed, and the second not.
    I have tried the following:
    onchange="Disable_Dagen(this);Disable_Kg(pThis);"and I have put them together in a parent JavaScript function
    function Disable_Fields(pThis){
    Disable_Kg(pThis);
    Disable_Dagen(pThis);
    }In either case only the first works, so when I change the order then the other one is executed properly.
    Can anyone give me a clue on how to solve this?
    My complete JavaScript definition in the header is as follows:
    (the code in html_DisableOnValue is taken from the example site from Carl Beckstrom)
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function html_DisableOnValue(pThis,pValue,pThat){
         var lTest;
      if(pThis.nodeName == 'SELECT'){
                   lTest = html_SelectValue(pThis) == pValue;
         }else{
                   lTest = $x(pThis).value == pValue;
         if(pThat){
               for (var i=2;i <= arguments.length; i++){
                          html_disableItem(arguments,lTest)
         return;
    function Disable_Dagen(pThis){
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=AP_RETURN_DISABLE_VAL_DGN',0);
    get.add('AI_AFW_CODE',pThis.value);
    gReturn = get.get();
    get = null;
    //alert('Return waarde is '+ gReturn );
    html_DisableOnValue(pThis,gReturn,'P43_AANTAL_DAGEN');
    function Disable_Kg(pThis){
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=AP_RETURN_DISABLE_VAL_KG',0);
    get.add('AI_AFW_CODE',pThis.value);
    gReturn = get.get();
    get = null;
    //alert('Return waarde is '+ gReturn );
    html_DisableOnValue(pThis,gReturn,'P43_AANTAL_KG');
    function Disable_Fields(pThis){
    Disable_Kg(pThis);
    Disable_Dagen(pThis);
    //-->
    </script>
    In this case the Form Element property is set toonchange="Disable_Fields(this)"

    Hi Roel,
    Thanks again for your response.
    There is a lot more to Firebug then I had seen before. Now I have turned on the Console and the Script. Initially I saw the following in the Console:
    C is undefined
    $x_disableItem(undefined, true)apex_3_1.js (regel 1)
    html_DisableOnValue(select#P43_AFWIJKING_CODE, "101", "P43_AANTAL_DAGEN")f?p=104:...2606::::: (regel 38)
    Disable_Dagen(select#P43_AFWIJKING_CODE)f?p=104:...2606::::: (regel 51)
    onchange(change )f?p=104:...FPQ%3D%3D (regel 2)
    [Break on this error] var gDebug=true;var gkeyPressTime;var gL...Options;html_SelectValue=$f_SelectValue;When I removed the comments before the 2 Alerts, I only got one alert when I tested it.
    Then I replaced the function call to html_DisableOnValue to $f_DisableOnValue as you suggested, and that did the trick. Now it Works!
    I still don't know why the html_DisableOnValue function doesn't work. I just copied it from the demo site of Carl Beckstrom. Anyway my problem is solved.
    Have a nice weekend, Wouter

  • [CS5.1] Javascript functionality removed from Applescript?

    I haven't been able to find any answers with this.. and starting to feel like i'm the only one with the problem. I just finally upgraded from CS2 - thankfully not a whole lot has changed and i've found solutions for converting most of my code, but this one i'm stuck on.
    The do javascript command is clearly listed in the library as valid, so when i compile it's recognized and all, it's just that whenever executed Photoshop gives an error saying, General Photoshop Error occured. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop.
    Help..? They didn't really get rid of it, did they?

    Yes that is the thread that I meant… If you've tried what is suggested there then I don't know any more… I had switched scripting language before this change… How much JavaScript is there, can you put it in an inline string? Does this simple example work for you…
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
         tell document 1
            set docName to name
            set docMode to mode as string
              do javascript "alert( arguments[0]+' is '+arguments[1] )" with arguments {docName, docMode}
         end tell
    end tell

  • JavaScript function which fetches return_value from List of Values

    Hi,
    I have created List of Values named "NICKS". I want to write JavaScript function "get_workers_fullname(nick)" which returns display_value from List of Values. The parameter of function is return_value of List "NICKS".
    I am new with this and don't know how to handle this case.
    Please help me.

    Hi,
    The LOV, I mean is the item in Application's Shared Components. I don't mean the visible SelectList on the page.
    This is what I found in ApEx's help: "A List of Values can be referenced by page items as well as report fields. It controls the values displayed and limits the user's selection. Lists of Values can be static (based on values you enter) or dynamic (based on a SQL query)."
    I'd like to access values in such LOV from JavaScript. I am not sure it is possible.
    Cheers,
    Tom.

    Edited by: user11970612 on Jun 14, 2012 5:02 AM

    this is probably due to the Javascript code and not a "real link" to another page... I don't know if the null is due to the Javascript...
    But if you really really want to use javascript instead of a ... you can pass the location of the url with JSP (on your main page) as a parameter to the open window... (...) u can put instead of main.jsp <%= request.getServerName()+request.getRequestURI() %>
    the value <%= ... %> will return something like test.com/html/main.jsp
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I have a backing file call a JavaScript function?

    I have a Weblogic portal with a JSP portlet. The portlet has a backing file. How can I get the backing file to call a JavaScript function in my portlet?
    thanks

    Hi
    your questions are not correct because you are mixing up server side operations with client side operations.
    First server side code executes then the page is sent to the browser , then any javascript executes on the browser. So asking for javascript to be called from backing file (server side) doesn't make sense or asking for javascript to read a parameter doesnt exactly work either.
    However in your server code suppose you have a variable action in the request that you want javascript to know then in your JSP you would add something like
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var action = '${requestScope.action}';
    alert(action);//or whatever you want to do
    <c:if test="${requestScope.someOthervariable == ''xyz'}"><%-- this check is done on the server --%>
    callSomeJavascript(); <%--this javascript is only executed when the server side value of someOtherVariable is xyz --%>
    </c:if>
    </script>
    i.e. you can output the javascript that has the variables you need or the function calls you want.
    Like I said understand whats server side and whats client side.

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to hide/show list columns based on specify the permission for Users, SharePoint Groups or Active Directory Groups.
    Here is a solution from CodePlex for your reference:

    Actually, as long as the servlet returns valid javascript, you can indeed "call it" from the client. It will initiate a request and return the result to the browser.
    This example uses Perl, but it could be easily modified to go to a servlet instead.
    Note that it is only supported in DOM browsers (IE6+/NN6+/etc)

    Hi Arnau,
    You need to surround your JavaScript code like this (without the spaces before and after script):
    < script language="Javascript">
      window.open("<%=ABAP_VARIABLE%>").focus();
    </script >
