Javascript to adjust form field font size by number of entered characters?

I have a form field that asks for 'full name' (first, middle, last). It's posted large at the top of the form. Some people's names are short, some long.
Is there a javascript way to adjust the font size used within a form field based on the number of characters entered into field?
i.e. if the name entered is Joe Smith, the font size is 30pt, if it's Alexander Hamilton the font size is 20pt?

(An aside: trying to find a specific Adobe solution or function isn't very easy. I always search the forums, the documentation, and Google before posting any question here. Seems like there are so many features in every product that change so frequently that finding even a simple answer is a challenge...)

    Please let me know if there is a way to adjust the font on a fillable field so that whatever is keyed in the field will fit. We can do this in Word with autofit and were hoping that there was a way to do this in Acrobat. We are using Acrobat Pro 7, but some of us have version 8.

    Concise problem statement:
    Auto font size in form text field doesn't work
    when rich text formatting is enabled
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1.create a small form text field
    2. set the font size to auto under properties->appearance tab
    3.enable "allow rich text formatting" under options tab
    4. enter text into the form
    Results: the text is not scaled properly. rich formatted text has a different size than standard text.
    Expected results: The text should auto size if that is what the setting says it is going to do (rich formatting or not).

    In DW CS6, I made a two column table in a form for label/data.  I reduced the font size in the 1st col (label) from 12 to 10px but can't change in 2nd col  (data).

    Give data an ID or Class name and style it with CSS.

  • Smart forms and Font Sizes

    Hi,
    I'm creating a form and i am trying to place a title with font size around 50, and i tried creating a paragraph type with a font of this size in smart styles, the problem is when i am editing the text node, the font size appears to be right, but when i print it, the font gets much smaller, can anyone help on this?

    I tried that, i created a paragraph type, and i can see a change in the font size, but its as if there is a limit to the size it displays, i place the font size at 50, but it does not shot that size, maybe a little bigger than normal, but not 50. The font i'm using is HELVE.

    You must update the FontEntry.class in f90all\oracle\forms\engine\FontEntry.class
    1.and modify the getMappingTable() method with linux client OS :

  • Can no longer edit/adjust presenter note font sizes etc

    In a large presentation (meaning I don't wish to start over) I can now no longer edit the presenter fonts, in terms of size or other font related changes - either via the format bar, font window or toolbar icons...
    All options appear grayed out or unselectable...
    The reason I wished to alter font sizes is something occurred which in fact changed all the default sizes (from 22 down to an unreadable 12) in my presenter notes.
    Adding new slides retains the editable presenter notes...but quickly these seem to end up ultimately changing to the smaller uneditable font scenario.
    Help!

    I was just searching for this problem myself... here is my experience:
    In order to change presenter note fonts I need to open the font box (format/font/show fonts)... the problem is that things go screwy when I change presenter notes size... the cpu starts maxing out, keynote snails along.. I have to quit/restart. Bug city.?
    There is definitely some disconnect between these notes fonts and the rest of the keynote program!
    The ability to easily change these notes size is important for me but I'm hesitant to keep trying...
    ps: choosing font/format/show fonts is the same as using the toolbar A icon - the format bar fonts don't work for presenter notes.

  • How can I adjust the toolbar font size in Firefox 10.0.2 using Linux?

    I have very poor vision. I am using NoSquint to enlarge all web sites that I visit, but I do not know how to enlarge the font on the toolbar, bookmarks, BBCN RSS news feed, etc.
    I have 1920x1080 resolution monitor, but I do not want to change from this resolution just to see the toolbar, bookmarks, etc.

  • How to make Acrobat Pro 7 form fields same size

    I can manually enter form fields in my version of Acrobat Pro 7 but I have to hand draw them.  is there a good way to make them all the same height?  I know that if I copy the form field that I draw, it will link itself to whatever form field I copied it from.

    they are no longer "linked".

  • Global default form field font change

    Hi.
    I've created a form in InDesign (CC 9.2.1) with mulitple text fields. Does anyone know of a way to globally change the font from Times New Roman to another in the PDF? This is the default font, but it clashes visually in the form. I'd like to change it to Arial or Helvetica (nothing fancy), which would better suit the form, and look much more professional than Times.
    I've read that JavaScript can do this (when run from the Debugger console in Acrobat – my version is 11.0.06), but I don't know JavaScript well enough to write or debug it.
    Manually selecting properties on every field would be very time-consuming, and there's no option to pre-select the font in InDesign. Plus, if I then amend the form or make changes in InDesign, I'd have to re-do all my properties changes.
    I've also seen a comment (on here somewhere) where someone has altered a registry file to set the default font. I'm on Mac, so does anyone know of a similar method on Mac that might work? I'm happy to delve into package contents etc.

    As for the username, in your Application Panel under Bindings
    click the +
    and choose Session Variable and enter MM_Username. Drag this
    where ever you
    want it to appear, including the default value for a field.

    Select them all by pressing Ctrl+A while using the Select Object Tool (a
    black cursor), or by manually selecting the ones you want, then right-click
    one of them and select Properties. You will be able to edit the common
    properties of all the selected fields.

  • The JavaScript for my form field does not run

    I am running Windows XP and have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro installed. I am using the Wizard to create a form. For a particular field I need to run a JavaScript.
    1. For "Select Trigger", I selected, "Mouse Up".
    2. For "Select Action", I selected, "Run a JavaScript".
    I then added the very simple JavaScript, below.

    } else {
        discount = shipping * 0.1;
    However, it did not work, as expected. After spending more than a day trying to figure out why it does not work, I realized that the reason it did not work was because the value of "Select Action" is not being retained. It just returns to "Execute a menu item" ... even if I check the "Locked" checkbox. Please help me.

    I am not doing a calculation. Unfortunately, this cannot be done because I have an "IF" condition. This is why I am utilizing the "Action" tab NOT the "Calculate tab. Please see the screen shots below:

  • Adobe Reader 9 Editible Form Field Font Color

    I seem to be having a problem (or what I believe to be a problem) with Adobe Reader 9 when filling out PDF editible forms. On screen I enter data into the editible field and the font color is black but when I print the form, the editible field data prints in green. I don't remember this being the case with prior versions of Reader so I'm wondering if this is new and is there a way to return the text printed text color to the correct font color? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply. Although I have a third party PDF Editing tool I have tried this with other PDF editable forms and they all seem to be exhibiting the same behavior. For example I went out on the internet tonight and found a UCSB Order Form on http://www.grafikart.com/order/ucsb.htm. When I open this form and type in text the displayed text is always black but when I print the form the entered text is always dark green. Note that I contacted my third party PDF editor tool about the problem they suggested that I run the unedited form thru their software and set all existing fields to be editable and then re-save the form after insuring that the text color for the editable fields was black. I did all that and again, the color of displayed text is still dark green. Note that when I'm talking about the text being green I want you to understand that the form itself prints in black text however any text that I enter into the form always prints dark green.

  • Hide form field based on name that contains certain characters

    I think this is an easy one.
    We're looking for help with a script that will hide all instances of text fields that contain a certain value. We have a function running that applies to the same text fields, however, each text field had to be tagged with a number at the end. Also running with this is a custom save button that flattens the page and hides certain elements before saving out. The hide function works pretty straightforward with "this.getField… = display.hidden;". The issue is that we don't want to repeat this for every single instance of the text fields that share the same name.
    We need it look for every text box that has a similar title so for instance if we had multiple fields like this…  "my-text-field-01", "my-text-field-02" and "my-text-field-03" we want the script to look for the name "my-text-field" and hide all instances of that.
    Hope this makes sense, sorry, our programming skills are still amateur. Thanks in advance for any help.

    You can do that if you use a heirarchical naming convention. So instead use something like: my-text-field.1, my-text-field.2, etc.
    You can then hide them all like:
    // Hide all of the "my-text-field" fields
    getField("my-text-field").display = display.hidden;
