JClient Application? Frame and Panels

Hi all,
New to Jdev 9.03 and attempting to come to terms with its use of the term "application" and the best structure for frames and panels.
The term application in the help text and example code seem to take on different meanings. In one its a unit of work (task) or "the order form" in the other its a group of tasks "the order form" + "2 order views" + "1 customer view" lets say.
I hope someone can put some light on this for me. Our testing project concerns the group what I will call for now "OUR APP" its the group above 1 form & 3 views. Using the wizards we would get 4 frames based on the unit of work in the examples or 1 frame and 4 panels based on others.
One example shows example code opening several frames as different applications?? from a master application?? but none seem to show one frame managing several panels as seperate classes as an application???
What is an application?? a unit of work or the subject "the complete group of tasks" ??? and are there any examples of one frame managing several panels built as seperate classes and forms as an application???
any info or examples as how to approach this is helpful. thanks in advance,

Robert,
actually there is no definition of an application in the Java world and it is up to you to define what's your understanding of an application is. If e.g. you build a car rental system, what would you refer to a application, the whole thing, or individual modules like "car maintenance" and "employees" that could run stand alone as well? You can't even say that an application is defined by the package it is in because applications can span over multiple packages.
The JClient wizard always generate some frames and panels for you because it needs to add the items somewhere. Having different panels generated seems to be a good approach in that it avoids writing all Java code into one big fat Java class. So many panels appear in a frame, many frames can show in a window, many windows can make up an application. But one frame with one panel also ca be an application, right ? JClient does not something Oracle specific, but is pure Swing.
Frank
Ps.: My definition of an application scope in Java is everything required to support a specific business need. So for the rental car example above it is the whole of all modules.

  • CS5 Mac, Application Frame, and shelled custom UIs

Just discovered that in CS5/5.1, when Photoshop has "Application Frame" turned on and an image is opened not in tabbed mode (ie. is floating), when we launch our custom UI is shows up BEHIND the image. Our custom UI is actually run a separate process, so we basically block PS until we return. While blocked, any other application run from the Finder (unless it is dialog-based) will show up BEHIND the image in Photoshop.
Anyone know of a way to work around this? Can I let PS idle in an event loop of some kind? Funny how OS X doesn't have the concept of application-specific window priorities.

Anyone? This seems to happen if anything blocks Photoshop for whatever reason. Do we need to send some events to Photoshop to tell it to clean up its global window priority while we do our thing?

  • Bug Report: Enabling Application Frame forces all open documents into tabs

    Steps to reproduce the problem:
Set Preferences -> Interface -> "Open Documents as Tabs" to OFF
Open a bunch of documents. Observe that they are separate floating windows, which is good
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will turn the default Application Frame off
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will re-enable the Application Frame and force all of your open docs into tabs, which is undesired!

Found another option which is helpful for those trying to rid themselves of tabs:
Preferences -> Interface -> Uncheck "Enable Floating Document Window Docking"
This will prevent you from accidentally dragging a document near the top of the Aplication Frame and having it sucked into a tab.
That said, I think it is still a problem to have all documents brought into tabs when turning on Window -> Application Frame when all of the available "don't use tabs" options are chosen.

  • Double arrow resize cursor of application frame extends over menu bar

Using Photoshop cs5 in application frame mode, when the cursor reaches any edge of the application frame it automatically turns into a double-arrow which when clicked and dragged will resize the application frame. (that is normal behavior). However, when the application frame is at the top of the screen against the menu bar, and then the cursor passes over the top edge of the application frame and onto the menu bar, that double arrow resizing cursor doesn't change back to the normal arrow cursor. Just very annoying to always see that double arrow when I'm trying to click any menu item on the menu bar.
I wonder if it's a photoshop issue or a mac issue, or if anyone else has noticed the same thing,
    Working on a MacBook Pro 17" i7, 8gb ram in Photoshop CS5
Just tried doing the same thing in illustrator and it does not have that problem, everything works like it should - I move the cursor to the top and I don't even get that resize cursor at all (which is the way it should be since the top of the frame is against the menu bar there's no room to extend it upwards) so leads me to think it's a Photoshop issue.
    Any feedback is appreciated.

I can confirm that this happens on my machine as well.
Current work around is to click an empty spot on OS X menu bar to reset cursor to normal before selecting a menu item. I have seen this behaviour since initial release of PS CS5 (all updates installed and behaviour still exists).
Illustrator CS5 does not display this behaviour on my machine either, so it would appear to be confined to Photoshop (I am assuming the mouse-over parameters for resize may be to blame, or lack of recognition of menu bar proximity).
    Machine specs:
    Mac Pro (early 2008) - 2.8 Ghz. Quad-Core
    OS X (10.6.4) - fully updated
    8 GB RAM (1 GB / slot)
    nVidia 8800 GT video adapter
    ACD 23" display
Logitech LX8 mouse (no software installed for mouse, generic OS X driver)
Note - Wacom Intous3 drivers installed (haven't tested behaviour with tablet pen yet, but tablet only plugged in and used for specific painting, not during displayed behaviour).
Default install for PS CS5 and AI CS5.
Issue displayed with or without any third-party plug-ins installed.
    A fix would be good.

  • Fireworks CS4 & CS5 application frame bug in OSX Lion

I've had this problem before with Snow Leopard and CS4, never resolved it without the below, and it's bugging me to the point I don't want to pay for an upgrade to CS5 as it's still there in CS5, and I dreamed it might not be!
    I know the following facts:
It doesn't exhibit on a clean OSX install.
It doesn't exhibit on a new user account on the same machine.
It doesn't go wrong for ages, but when it does it's impossible to fix without a clean install of OSX
Deleting everything realted to Adobe/Fireworks (there must be something I miss - anoyone got  a list?) and re-installing CS4 or CS5 doesn't fix it.
It's related to screen resolution (2560x1600) as it doesn't exhibit if I change the resolution, but I'm not going to run in anthing less than native on my cinema screen as that's pointless.
    What happens?
Open or create a new document whilst using the application frame and the whole frame jumps full screen then up and left (out of bounds slightly) and sometimes the frame is over the image.
Sometimes it can be recovered by dragging the frame (if it didn't go outside full screen)  It makes using CS4 or CS5 a nightmare.
I'd like to know where it gets the notion to move the frame/go full screen, and how I can reset this weird and annoying behaviour.
Having to run Fireworks in a new account is a PITA.
    Help?

    WOW!
After a couple of hours fruitless application conflict searching I stumbled on a solution.
I tried the FW without the frame, and didn't like the way the bottom bar sat by the dock, so I turned on dock hiding, the bottom bar then snaps to the bottom of the screen.
Went back to application frame on and was amazed to find that everything was now working as expected.
I assumed it was to do with dock hiding, so unhid it, but FW still works fine.  Thought maybe it was to do with the number of icons in the dock (I have over 40) or the dock size, but can't replicate the problem in my other user account, so I can only assume the following:
During the course of an editing session with multiple windows open and maybe with the FW window pushed under the dock and maybe opening a new file from finder in FW - maybe this is when it gets confused. - that would be a typical work pattern for me.
So, no matter any more, I have a fix for next time - hide the dock, see if it resolves, if not hide the dock allow it to open in the non frame mode to full edges of the screen, see if that fixes it.
It explains why a pristine user doesn't have the problem - small dock, it explains why a fresh install is okay for a while - dock not full of applications *I Must Have*  maybe someone somewhere can replicate the bug and fix it.
    *happy face*

  • Any way to set the Application frame to specific dimensions?

In order to make screencasts more easily, I'd like to make a small AppleScript or Javascript script that would resize the application frame to exactly 1280 X 720
I tried a few things in both AppleScript and Javascript but I can't find any reference in the docs on how to point to the Application frame and set its dimensions...
Any pointer in the right direction much appreciated!

Yes, we do use Apple Remote Desktop. However, we want the other computer to be black the entire time, whether we are accessing it or not. I just don't want the students to see the mouse flying all over the screen and getting distracted, so I just need the screen itself to be black all the time, while still being on.

  • Workspace and Applications Frame - can we separate and group applications

    Hi,
In the execution of our first BPM Project, i'm kinda worried about Workspace interfase, especially the Layuot and the content.
As example, our workspace applications panels has this buttons (it´s kinda alphabetic order)
    Applications
    Process
    Indicators
    Applications
    Applications
    Reports
    Indicators
    etc,
Our users has always more than one function associated.
My need is to arrange the actual workspace and "sort" the applications, process and Indicators buttons in separated "layout" or in some way that looks like "clean" to the user.
Has someone done this before? Is there an example?
Or just using the ALBPM workspace customization doc is all what i really need?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes and iCloud are different accounts. You can both use the same ID for the store login and share your music etc., and use different ID's to log in to iCloud, thereby keeping your calendars etc separate.

  • ADF Application (Web and JClient mix)

We are thinking of making a ADF application with a mix of Web and JClient interfaces similar to Oracle E-Business mix of Forms and Self Service Applications.
Is this possible in J2EE/ADF? can we launch a JClient Form by clicking on a Web link on one of a ADF-UIX page for example? What about sessions, are session data passed on from JClient->server and back?
We use an ADF-UIX page for basic view/entry screens and use JCLient for more complicated entries.
    regards,
    Anton

    Anton,
I think that you should decide for one or the other and not mix them. If you need to have users to decide whether to run a browser based client or a desktop client then I propose to build two individual applications that re-use the model layer. If you can separate functionality by access paths then you can build parts web based and other parts desktop oriented.
Is this possible in J2EE/ADF? can we launch a JClient Form by clicking on a Web link on one of a ADF-UIX page for example?
You could if you deploy JClient as an Applet, which comes with a reasonable download size
What about sessions, are session data passed on from JClient->server and back?
No. JClient applications don't use web sessions.
We use an ADF-UIX page for basic view/entry screens and use JCLient for more complicated entries.
I shouldn't do this because its not a clean application design. You can request ADF JClient applications from Java Webstart to support central software deployment. Maybe using JClient is the best solution for your usecase

  • Jclient application and Webstart

Can i use WebStart to run a Jclient application?
Will i meet any performance problem?
    Thanks.

Yes you can - and in 9.0.3 we have made this easier.
As to whether there will be a performance issue? - Well it depends what you mean. WebStart is only a way of deploying
and accessing your application. Once it is running it should now behave any different if it was run using WebStart or
    is deployed manually.
These is some information on the on line help - search for JClient and Web Start

the very top of my 13" macbook pro screen, above the browser or application frame, goes black sometimes and I'm unable to see the choices, any ideas?

    Back up all data.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    defaults delete -g NSFullScreenDarkMenu
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. You can then quit Terminal. Log out and log back in.

  • Application Pool and JClient

I don't understand if application pooling could be usefull in a JClient application (either Client/Server and EJB deployed).
If Yes what kind of benefits should I expect ?
How can I implement them ?
    TIA
    Tullio

    As said,
not at present. If you read teh online help, then you will note that the session reference to the am pool is held with session cookies, something that JClient doesn't deal with.

  • Application Frame problem

    Hi:
Of late when I use the application frame it is sized so large (not by me) that you cannot see the information at the bottom on the tabbed image and the Panels section.  I have tried to resize it but it extends so low that the cursor cannot reach the control.  I have already tried uninstalling and installing and that worked and I reset it to my desired size but when I came back the next day the problem was back.  I figured finally that it must be a Preference and I restarted and allowed for resetting and again this worked.
My question is does anyone know what the actual plist is for the Application frame so that I can trash that directly?

    Hi All,
In my application we have created nearly 10 regions and for each region i have created sub regions with No templates. Here are the deatils below.
I need to display two regions side by side with borders, so what i have done is
    1. Created a region as #Region Start with No template with Display point as "Page template body (1. items below region content) and Header and footer i have

'File' > 'Page Setup' is used to alter the page margins when you need to print the email. It is not used to create a Template email nor to change the overall theme used in the Thunderbird user interface.
To add a theme to the overall Thunderbird window, you can choose
    * either a Windows theme via Control Panel > Personalization >Theme
    * or download a theme Add-on, there is a huge range here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/themes/
    such as : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/balloons/?src=ss
If you are looking to create a Template email, then you open a new Write message, design the email, enter a Subject so that you can easily locate the email and click on 'File > Save as > Template or click on Save button and choose 'Template' from the options. then the email is saved in the Templates folder. To use, you click on Templates folder and double click on the email to open in a new Write message. then compose and send as normal. The original email will be saved in Templates folder for reuse.

  • Applet, Frame and fullscreen

    Hi!
Have an application wich is a Applet and also can run as a desktop program. The fullscreen desktop function some time ago sotpped work, now I have been testing to discover the problem and discovered the Applet does not work correctly when inside my Frame, the Panel class also does not work, only the JPanel is drawed in my fullscreen.
So, I want to ask why the Applet does not work anymore when the Frame is in fullscreen exclusive mode?... and what is the best practice in this case, because I want my game to run in desktop and inside web browser?

Ok, the browser window wrapper does nothing in particular, in fact it can be replaced by a Frame using java web start, but maybe the users will get intimidated by this approach. And maybe they won't. Developers seem to have a greater fear of apps. launched using JWS than users do.
Note that an app. launched using JWS will work for more users than an applet. There are constant browser/JRE interaction bugs discovered, that trip up applet deployment.
I just want an alternative for this problem with Applets inside frames.Applets can be dropped into a frames, but it requires some extra hassles. If you control the code, I would not recommend going that way.
(And now I re-read this thread from the top..)
I am confused by what you mean by 'full-screen' in combination with 'applet'. An applet embedded in a web page has its size set in HTML. If you want something to be full-screen, it would require the applet launching a free-floating (J)Frame, (J)Window or (J)Dialog (etc.). Is that what it does?
