JDBC Oracle driver and Analytic sql support

I get the following error when trying to issue an update using a prepared statement in JDBC.
ORA-01006 : BIND Variable does not exist.
The statement in question is:
UPDATE TABLE_A SET A_COL = ? WHERE ID = (SELECT ID FROM (SELECT ID, ANO, REP_PERIOD, ROW_NUMBER() OVER ( PARTITION BY ANO ORDER BY REP_PERIOD DESC NULLS LAST) rn FROM TABLE_A WHERE rn = 1 AND ANO = '?')
If for instance, I substitute a hard value for "ANO = ?" - for e.g. ... ANO = 'ABC' the JDBC Update statement works fine.
Oracle ver. is 8.1.7, driver is the thin driver - both 8.1.7 and 9.0.2.0.1 tried.
Does Oracle's JDBC driver support analytic queries?
cheers
Aj

You don't want to have the quotes around the latter question mark. Right now, you're instructing the query to look for rows where ANO is the literal '?'. Remove the quotes and JDBC will recognize it as a bind variable.

  • DB link between Oracle 9i and MS SQL server2000

    Hi,
Is it possible to create a DB link between Oracle 9i and MS SQL server 2000.
If it is possible what are the different ways of creating it.
Is it possible without purchasing any propietery drivers.
    Thanks,
    Rohit

I've never seen any documents stating that the enterprise edition is a requirement for the heterogeneous connectivity ....
There are 2 ways to set up the connection with MS SQL - using generic connectivity driver (OLE DB or ODBC) or using the Oracle Transparent Gateway.
The generic connectivity is free and comes with Oracle DB - it has several limitations - for example you can't call MS SQL stored procedures from Oracle.
The Oracle Transparent Gateways are packaged , the MS SQL gateway is part of the Open System Gateways package ($15,000.00 per CPU license cost) and i has less restrictions.

  • Replication between Oracle Server and MS SQL Server

    Hello,
Does anybody know of a well known or reliable software that can do data replication between Oracle Server and Microsoft SQL server.
I suppose I can write my own version using Heterogenous Services in Oracle but I would like to know if such an automated replication between Oracle and SQL is available commercially.
    Thank you.

The only place where I have seen Streams being used around me is within Oracle db only. May be someone else can help if he/she has done it.

  • Differnce Between Oracle 9i And MS SQL Server 2000

But you have to remember one big thing - I've not seen yet one compare that was completely indifferent to any of the included DB's. So you can be sure that every doc that you get on MS website will say that SQL server is better, every doc on Oracle website will say that Oracle is better. Every doc on other websites will say that better DB either is:
    1) DB that has payed for the reserach paper
    2) DB that was mostly used by the researchers
So of course you should be very cautious about each paper you get.

  • JDBC-Oracle-Driver

    Hi all,
where can I download an JDBC-Oracle-Driver except of Oracle itsself?

You could use the thin[i] driver.
Or, if you find a provider other than Oracle... you can... but, exactly, why do you want to do that???

  • JDBC Thin-Driver and Oracle Stored Procedure

I've got a Oracle stored procedure which returns a Oracle record.
How can I retrieve the record in java using the JDBC Thin-Driver ?
    Record:
    TYPE messagerec IS RECORD
    (log_level VARCHAR(2), timestamp VARCHAR2(19), text VARCHAR2(200));

Using PL/SQL BOOLEAN, RECORD Types, and TABLE Types:
Oracle SQLJ and JDBC do not support calling arguments or return values of the
PL/SQL BOOLEAN type or RECORD types. Also, when using the Thin driver, they
do not support calling arguments or return values of PL/SQL TABLE types (known
as indexed-by tables). TABLE types are supported for the OCI driver.

  • JDBC Thin driver and Oracle names server

    Hi
Any managed to get the Thin driver to user the Names Server aliases, ie I want to connect to service xxx like
jdbc:oracle:thin:@xxxx and not specify instance and port as the DB is running in a multiple machine cluster and can be switched to a different machine...
With OCI driver I have managed on NT but having problem with OCI/Linux and Beta 10g...
    Tks
    Andre

I don't have much experience with OCI from JDBC, but should work like any other kind of connection via SQL*Net. I.e. I would check if connection can be made using SQLPlus, check environment variables (ORACLE_HOME etc.) of 9iAS instance, check version of JDBC classes and their readme.txt. There are also some settings in sqlnet.ora file which might affect this (like default domain - try to use full name of alias - OCRL.WORLD or whatever alias you have there). You may also want to switch tracing for SQLNet and/or listener on (it's not easy to find in doc how to do it, though) to check if there is at least some traffic between klient and server...

  • Oracle Jdbc Thin driver and nls suppot

    Hello,
I have a hungarian database with nls_lang variable set to hungarian. I'm trying to do a jdbc connection using classes12.zip
but I'm getting the hungarian characters converted to question marks or other characters.
I read suggestions that I must include the nls_charset12.zip in my classpath too. So I did that but I'm still having the same problem.
    What is missed??
How do I get the right hungarian charachters without any conversion.
This is becoming frustrating and I'm not able to solve it yet.

  • Oracle JDBC Thin Driver and Firewall Problem

    Hi!
We have Oracle 8.1.5 and Websphere App Server. There is a
firewall between the two. A servlet creates a connection pool
(not that of Wesphere's). The frontend is JSP/HTML (no applets).
The servlet uses the Oracle JDBC Thin Driver for DB Connections.
The problem is - Once the connection is freed, the connection
pool is not being able to retrieve it and hence it created
another one, thus reaching the max. # of connections and the
system hangs. Restarting the DB service flushes the connection
and the application starts running again...
There was a similar problem discussed in this forums long ago. I
have not yet tried mentioning the firwall port and IP in the
connection string. But apart from that, is there any other
setting I need to do (on firewall or for the connectionstring)
    to deal with this problem?
Someone had suggested to punch a hole in the firewall for the DB
port - but we can not really do that in the current scenario...
I would appreciate if anyone could share their experience
regarding how they resolved this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vijaya.

  • JDBC thin driver and Oracle 8.1.6

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 4 and using Oracle JDBC thin driver driver (classes111.zip). My application is multithreaded, but each thread maintains its own connection (and own set of Statements). Things are okay in single threaded mode, but in multi threaded mode, I get weird errors!
    1. My resultsets are SCROLL_SENTITIVE and UPDATABLE
    2. Sometimes, while updating a row, "No current row" SQLException is thrown, although a row exists that satisfies my select criteria
    3. I am also calling executeUpdate() for inserting new rows and such rows are not seen by successive resultsets!
    Appreciate any hints! Thanks!

    Try this isntead.

  • Jdbc thin driver and bulk binding slow insertion performance

    Hello All,
We have a third party application reporting slow insertion performance, while I traced the session and found out most of elapsed time for one insert execution is sql*net more data from client, it appears bulk binding is being used here because one execution has 200 rows inserted. I am wondering whether this has something to do with their jdbc thin driver(10.1.0.2 version) and our database version 9205. Do you have any similar experience on this, what other possible directions should I explore?
here is the trace report from 10046 event, I hide table name for privacy reason.
Besides, I tested bulk binding in PL/SQL to insert 200 rows in one execution, no problem at all. Network folks confirm that network should not be an issue as well, ping time from app server to db server is sub milisecond and they are in the same data center.
    INSERT INTO ...

    SQL*Net message from client 1 0.00 0.00

I have exactly the same problem, I tried to find out what is going on, changed several JDBC Drivers on AIX, but no hope, I also have ran the process on my laptop which produced a better and faster performance.
Therefore I made a special solution ( not practical) by creating flat files and defining the data as an external table, the oracle will read the data in those files as they were data inside a table, this gave me very fast insertion into the database, but still I am looking for an answer for your question here. Using Oracle on AIX machine is a normal business process followed by a lot of companies and there must be a solution for this.

  • How to create ODBC connection between Oracle 10g and MS SQL Server

    Hi,
Can someone help us with the steps to create an ODBC connection between Oracle APPS using Oracle 10g database and MS SQL Server.
Requirement is to extract the transactional data from MS SQL Server on a daily basis and dump it into Oracle tables for an interface to be run. Currently it is being done through Dataloader tool which we feel is causing the data issue with Arabic characters. We want to create the ODBC directly between Oracle and MS SQL Server and check if the data is being pulled correctly.
The data is in sql server 2000 which has data in Arabic_CI_AS character set which is moved to Oracle 10.2.0.3 database with characterset AL32UTF8. The table data is moved to oracle using the dataloader 3.6 standard edition licensed version. We cannot change the character set of Sql Server 2000.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Shanil

    Hi,
If you're trying to PULL data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you wouldnt use Oracle ODBC driver for that, so you may want to post in the Heterogeneous Services forum instead:
    Heterogeneous Connectivity
If you're trying to PUSH data from SQLServer into an Oracle database, you could use ODBC but most folks use OLEDB for that, and the following note on MOS should help:
How to Create a Sql Server Linked Server With The Oracle Provider for OLE DB     (Doc ID 191368.1)
As with any NLS related issue, the first thing to do is dump the codepoints of the data in the Oracle database to see if it is stored validly, rather than relying on what the data "looks like" from some tool or other. It's best to check a single row, with only a few characters in it if you can, and you can do that via
    SELECT DUMP(<columname>,1016) FROM <tablename> WHERE ...
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • Client transport  between SAP on Oracle 10G and MS SQL server 2005

    Hi Folks,
We have a requirement where we have to do client export/import from SAP ECC 6.O running on Oracle 10g and to SAP ECC 6.0 running on MS SQL server 2005.I want to know whether SAP supports this and patch levels of all components two systems should be the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    Basis Admin

Not recommendet because of potential :
    -  patch level inconsistency
    - ABAP dictionary inconsistency (programs, tables)
    - possible client independent configuration conflicts
existing config cen disturb "imported" client
imported config can ddisturb  existing clients
If there are any inconsistencies mentioned above you are in trouble...

  • Oracle Drive and versioning

Any knows how to use versioning feature on OracleDrive
I've create library and set Versioning Model to manual , and there is still error no. 58 from Oracle Drive during saving file on that library(directory).
If the answer is "not supported" , maybe a little sugestion to OTN to imporove it -

Oracle Drive doesn't support manual versioning in this release. It is planned for the next major release.
