JDev 11g: Best Practice Multi Field Validation / Reset in a Dialog Control

I'm using JDev 11g and want to do the following (excuse my newbie learning curve):
1. Ability for the user to have a "dialog" form that they can edit their user information such as name, password, email, etc.
2. When user clicks OK want the system to validate that password fields are the same (there are two of them).
3. When user clicks Cancel I want the form to reset and the dialog to close.
Sounds easy right? However, I've seen several ways to implement and none of them seem straight forward and don't appear to work like I would want so instead spending the next day coding want to know if there's an easy solution.
For # 2:
The examples on the web use a phase listener for multi-form validation which when using a small dialog in a larger arena seems like overkill since the entire view will get my event right? Is there a similar thing for subform or subview?
Another example uses a listener for value change, however that doesn't work to well when trying to validate two fields match.
For # 3:
A standard OK Cancel dialog does not auto reset a form within it (it leaves the text - even invalid text in the field). Adding my own button for reset doesn't close the form and adding a reset listener doesn't close the form either. Is there a simple way and I'm just overlooking it? Should I use the standard buttons and somehow assign the cancel to reset the form or define my own and somehow close the popup? There's not too much documentation I can find about using Javascript to modify objects such as closing a dialog.
Anyone have the best approach that should be followed with less headache downstream and better portability to other forms with more complex validation? Any examples I missed that shows this working in a dialog?
Thank you,
Kris

Hi,
I don't understand #2, so ignoring it
#1 You can set the immediate property on the two password fields. In a value change listener you compare the two provided values and if they match, you continue processing. Otherwise you set an error message and call response complete. Note that as much as we like to provide everything declarative, coding is something that we cannot neglect completely in a programming environment.
#3 You can intercept the dialog close event and in this event determine which button was pressed. If it was the cancel button, get the current row from the underlying iterator and call refresh() passing one of the arguments you find when typing "Row." e.g DB refreshWithDBForget.

  • Best practice multi-org, MW, SOA, Siebel authen with static or dynamic url

    All,
My client integration lead had a question about the current best practices for multi-org structures with MW, SOA and Siebel. Internally the client contact is being pressured to get dynamic urls for authentication (for each area and new addition…currently exposed web services include Acct, Payment, Contact, etc… currently 60-70 services). However, he would like to stay with his current process for web service integration and just add pos id, user id, org id, etc. in the message string that is passed.
Please let me know what you think and why so I can pass this information along.

  • Obiee 11g : Best practice for filtering data allowed to user

    Hi gurus,
I have a table of the allowed areas for each user.
I want to show only the data facts associated with these allowed areas.
For instance my user scott can see France and Italy data.
I made a variable session. I put this session variable in a filter.
It works ok but only one value (the first one i think) is taken in account (for instance, with my solution scott will see only france data).
I need all the possible values.
I tried with the row wise parameter of the variable session. But it doesn't work (error obiee).
I've read things on internet about using stragg or valuelistof but neither worked.
What would be the best practice to achieve this goal of filtering data with conditions by user stored in database ?
    Thanks in advance, Emmanuel

  • Best practice concerning embedding script in report vs.  controlling from Java

    Hi,
I'm faced(probably not the only one) with adding some intelligence to my reports.  In a prior post I was curious about displaying/hiding sections based on conditions found in the bean/pojo.
Is there a best practice concerning embedding logic in the report in the form of formula(s), vs. using Java to get or create a field and then creating a formula on the fly?  I suspect the answer has something to do with truely dynamic fields, and perhaps a little bit of both Java, and script.
Anyone on staff care to try answering??

  • Best Practices for zVM/SLES10/zDB2 environment for dialog instances.

Hi,  I am a zSeries system programmer who has just completed an IBM led Proof of Concept which demonstrated the viability of running SAP instances on SUSE SLES10 Linux booted in zVM guests and accessing zDB2 data via hipersockets. Before we build a Linux infrastructure using the 62 IFLs we just procured, we are wondering if any best practices for this environment have been developed as an OSS note or something else by SAP.    Below you will find an email which was sent and responded to by IBM and Novell on these topics...
"As you may know, Home Depot has embarked on an IBM led proof of concept using SUSE SLES10 running in zVM guests on IBM zSeries hardware to host SAP server instances.  The Home Depot IT organization is currently in the midst of a large scale push to modernize our merchandising and people systems on SAP platforms.  The zVM/SUSE/SAP POC is part of that effort, as is a parallel POC of an Intel Blade/Red Hat/SAP platform.  For our production financial systems we now use a pSeries/AIX/SAP platform.
So far in the zVM/SUSE/SAP POC, we have been able to create four zVM LPARS on IBM z9 hardware, create twelve zVM guests on those LPARS, boot SLES10 in those guests, install and run SAP instances in those guests using hipersockets for access to our DB2 SAP databases running on zOS, and direct user workloads to the SAP instances with good results.  We have also successfully developed cloning scripts that have made it possible to create new SLES10 instances, configured and ready for SAP installs, in about 10 seconds using FLASHCOPY and IBM DASD.
I am writing in the hope that you can direct us to technical resources at IBM/Novell/SAP who may be able to field a few questions that have arisen.  In our discussions about optimization of the zVM/SUSE/SAP platform, we wondered if any wisdom about the appropriateness of and support for using zVM capabilities to virtualize SAP has ever been developed or any best practices drafted.  Attached you will find an IBM Redbook and a PowerPoint presentation which describes the use of the zVM discontiguous shared segments and the zVM named saved system features for the sharing of reentrant code and other  elements of Linux and its applications, thereby conserving storage and disk resources allocated to guest machines.   The specific question of the hour is, can any SAP code be handled similarly?  Have specific SAP elements eligible for this treatment been identified?
I've searched the SUSE Knowledgebase for articles on this topic to no avail.  Any similar techniques that might help us reduce the total cost of ownership of a zVM/SUSE/SAP platform as we compare it to Intel Blade/Red Hat/SAP and pSeries/AIX/SAP platforms are of great interest as we approach the end of our POC.  Can you help?
Greg McKelvey is a Client I/T Architect at IBM.  He found the attached IBM documents and could give a fuller account of our POC.  Pat Downs, IBM zSeries IT Architect, has also worked to guide our POC. Akshay Rao, IBM Systems IT Specialist - Linux | Virtualization | SOA, is acting as project manager for the POC.  Jim Hawkins is the Home Depot Architect directing the POC.  I've CC:ed their email addresses.  I am sure they would be pleased to hear from you if there are the likely questions about what the heck I am asking about here.  And while writing, I thought of yet another question that I hoping somebody at SAP might weigh in on; are there any performance or operational benefits to using Linux LVM to apportion disk to filesystems vs. using zVM to create appropriately sized minidisks for filesystems without LVM getting involved?"
As you can see, implementation questions need to be resolved.  We have heard from Novell that the SLES10 Kernel and other SUSE artifacts can reside in memory and be shared by multiple operating system images.  Does SAP support this configuration?  Also, has SAP identified SAP components which are eligible for similar treatment?  We would like to make sure that any decisions we make about the SAP platforms we are building will be supportable.  Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.  I will supply the documents referenced above if they are not known to any answerer.  Thanks,  Al Brasher 770-433-8211 x11895 [email protected]

    Hello AL ,
first, let me welcome you on board,  I am sure you won't be disapointed with your choice to run SAP on ZOS.
    as for your questions,
it wan't easy to find them in this long post , so i suggest you take the time to write a short summary that contains a very short list of questions.
    as for answers.
here are a few usefull sources of information :
    1. the sap on db2 for Z/os sdn page :
    SAP on DB2 for z/OS
in it you can find 2 relevant docs :
    a. best practices for ...
    b. database administration for db2 udb for z/os .
this second publication is excellent , apart from db2 specific info , it contains information on all the components of the sap on db2 for z/os like zlinux,z/vm and so on ...
    2. I can see that you are already familiar with the ibm redbooks , but it seems that you haven't taken the time to get the most out of that resource.
from you post it is clear that you have found one usefull publication , but I know there are several.
    3. a few months ago I wrote a short post on a similar subject ,
I'm sure its not exactly what you are looking for at this moment , but its a good start , and with some patience you may be able to get some answers.
    here's a link

  • Best Practice?  Fields Updated In Sub Controller?

    Hi All,
My application is working, but I'm interested in how others have approached this. I have a controller responsible for editing an object, and when the user selects components of that object (for example a text field) it calls a sub-controller to edit the object. How have other approached this? Do they give the responsibility of updating that field in the object to the sub-controller, or should the original controller be responsible for updating the object? If it's the original controller, where is this update placed, as there seems to be no specific callback for when subviews are popped.
    Thanks

  • OBIEE 11g best practice - when to use the new "presentation hierarchies"

Hi, maybe a dumb question, but what are the rules of thumb for when to expose a presentation hierarchy to end users. Obviously this must be done when using a parent / child hierarchy, as there is no level info that would allow drilling the "10g" way. However, I'm not so sure what the bonuses / drawbacks are when using level based hierarchies.
I have noticed that the SQL seems more complex and less performant when using the hierarchy. As an example, I have a simple dimension (business unit) that has a hierarchy with a total level, and 3 members in the detail level.
If I create this as a 10g style report, I add business unit column, dollar amounts, and a table total (so I can see grand total amounts), the SQL launched looks like this:
    WITH
    SAWITH0 AS (select sum(1) as c1,
    sum(T45393.SPEND_AMOUNT) as c2,
    T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE as c3
    from
    DIM_BUSINESS_UNIT T45273,
    FACT_SPEND_ANALYTICS T45393
    where ( T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY = T45393.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY )
    group by T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE)
    select distinct 0 as c1,
    D1.c3 as c2,
    D1.c2 as c3,
    D1.c1 as c4,
    0 as c5,
    0 as c6
    from
    SAWITH0 D1
This is simple and efficient, and OBIEE "knows" the grand total can be calculated by simply summing the business unit totals together.
But if I create this as an 11g style report using the presentation hierarchy, with all members selected (so I can get the detailed business units plus the grand total), the SQL is much less efficient, it actually fires two queries - one for the detail level, another for the total level:
    WITH
    SAWITH0 AS (select distinct sum(1) as c1,
    sum(T45393.SPEND_AMOUNT) as c2
    from
    FACT_SPEND_ANALYTICS T45393)
    select distinct 0 as c1,
    NULL as c2,
    'All Business Units' as c3,
    1 as c4,
    NULL as c5,
    D1.c2 as c6,
    D1.c1 as c7
    from
    SAWITH0 D1
    AND
    WITH
    SAWITH0 AS (select sum(1) as c1,
    sum(T45393.SPEND_AMOUNT) as c2,
    T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE as c3
    from
    DIM_BUSINESS_UNIT T45273,
    FACT_SPEND_ANALYTICS T45393
    where ( T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY = T45393.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY )
    group by T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE)
    select distinct 1 as c1,
    D1.c3 as c2,
    'All Business Units' as c3,
    1 as c4,
    D1.c3 as c5,
    D1.c2 as c6,
    D1.c1 as c7
    from
    SAWITH0 D1
Not only does this fire off two queries - but it doesn't use the existing cache for the "detail" level generated by the "non-hierarchy" query.
So I'm trying to figure out pros and cons of exposing hierarchies for end users. I've come up with the following:
    Pros:
    - Users can click on the + and - signs to drill / collapse individual members while still keeping all other members on the report
    Cons:
    - Queries fired at all levels, doesn't seem like it's smart enough to figure out it doesn't need to send a level query to database if all children were already queried
    - In 10g if I want to expand all children (i.e. drill down all quarters to the month level) I could just click on the column header. Doesn't appear to be any way to do that using the hierarchical drills, I have to click each and every one to see all the months.
    Any insights would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Scott

Hi, no, I haven't tried setting options such as "report based totals" - simply because I wouldn't want an option that requires users to tweak settings on each and every report they create to get stuff working efficiently.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • TopLink - Best Practice Question - Object Validation

We are fairly new to TopLink and have a question about doing object validation. We would like perform some validation on our objects that are about to be persisted to the DB. Since TopLink will persist all objects that are reachable from the ojects that are registered (I think) we would like to send a message to each of these objects (validate) before they are persisted. If the object validation fails, we will throw an exception (and the objects will not be persisted), hopefully such that the exception can be received by the client. Has anybody done anything similar to this before, or is there a better way of approaching this?
    TIA for any help.

    Are you using EJBs?
If so, there are a couple of options that may work better for you.
    1. You could use the ejbStore method for your validation and throw the exception in there. You should be able to get the exception on the client side, but it may be wrapped in several layers.
    2. For more complex validation, you may want to use a session bean to control the validation process. It can interact with your entity beans and provide feedback about why validation fails.

  • Simple HTTP Post Handler - Best Practice?

I would like to create a fairly simple ASP.Net application that takes an XML record from an HTTP post request, submits it to a process that invokes a command line app that parses the XML file, takes the parsed XML file (as XML), and returns the result.
For now the process can be synchronous as the transform has to complete and there are no parallel activities that need to be performed.
I'm not sure that writing an HTTP Handler is the way to go, but maybe I'm mistaken.  Plus there are no examples of doing that in Visual Studio 2013 using IIS 8.0 or 8.5 and I don't really understand the value of applying a file extension or processing
an HTTP post to initiate the request, perhaps using a dedicated port.  I already have a class library for handling the process request.
I'm also a little confused about reading the post request - it seems I can just do it during the page load and that I should be able to extract the first request form field - that of course means using a webform to process the request which seems to be the
most straight-forward way to do this. So I'm looking for the best practice for fielding this kind of request.  My target server is Windows 2012, but I'm developing with VS 2013 and C# on Windows 7 using IIS Express and configuring IIS is confusing.
Overall it is a fairly simple app, but there are so many rich new features in VS 2013 (most of my work has been in VS 2005).  I also want to build a test app and am looking for the best way to do so, although I think I can build a simple client app
to do that.  The business requirements will be to issue the post request from a MarkLogic xquery request which will take care of any JSON wrappers and balance between multiple Windows servers to handle the load.
Thanks for any help with this!

  • Handling of connection closures, best practice

    Hello,
I have the following situation (within some old code):
Quite a lot of different values are stores in a ldap server and are fetched often from a long-running program. There are many child-contexts from the initialcontext. The two possiblities I see are:
    a) have one connection which handles all. Problem: When the connection is closed (by a ldap server restart or whatever) i have to reinitialise the initialcontext and all child contexts.
    b) i use connection pooling and use a new(pooled) connection for each query.
Are the above assumtions correct? What would be the best practice to do this? Can Connection Request Controls help me with this?
I'm quite new to the advanced things of JNDI and thank you in advance for your answers.
    cheers,
    Michael

Yes, java.sql.SQLException is designed for that. It has two methods, getSQLState and getErrorCode, that will help you get the state of the RDBMS if something goes wrong. - MOD

  • Best practice to rendering components in latest jDEV 11.1.1.3

    All,
I am working on jDEV 11.1.1.3. One of my requirement is to disable / rendering the fields depending on the status of the column in the database. I would like what would be best practice to implement this. Do we need to add the logic in the "beforePhase" or in the application module? If it's in the application module how can we get the handle to the components on the page? I am getting exceptions when I added the logic in the "beforePhase" method ("Target can not be reachable") even though I have added the managed bean adfc-config file.
    Thanks

    Hi,
for the lable -->shortDesc just bind it to a variable on the managed bean and set whatever you want for it.
If I get your question correctly you want to change the state of a componet in view dynamically base on some Database logic on model.
this case is possible but not very easy.
for example the hidden attirbute for a component can be set in the model in the control hint.
if you want to dynamically render or not render a component you have to override the controlhint of the view.
in the control-hint you will return true o false programmically, I have done this for updateble attribute of the componet so my field on the view would be programmically be updateble if I set some attibute on the view. (it is totally independed to the ADF-Faces and the viewcontroller) it is based on the logic on model.
but this kind of topic are advance and not easiy handled.
if you want more information about it I hope to be able to help you.
    Thanks.
