JDev: Annoying feature of HTML editor

In the source pane of an html page write: Visit Oracle<br>
Now move the caret to the beginning to make an anchor: &lt;a hVisit Oracle<br>
The auto-completion popup suggests "href". Press enter to accept it: &lt;a href=" Oracle<br>
So, href is entered but the next word is being replaced.<br>
This issue appears always when it's about auto-completion in the HTML editor. It does discourage many people from using JDev for web apps.

It's true, just tried it.
You can get past this by putting a space infront of the Visit before typing the <a.
That is press home, space and left then <a.

  • Apex 3.0 Html Editor Standard item - Add feature.

    Hi,
Can I customize your new Html Editor Standard field? I would like to add some buttons that will pop-up window.
In futur, do you know if you will have package or something to customize the item ?
    Thanks

This cannot be customized. In a future release we might (might) have an editor that you can customize but we do not have that now. The very last icon you see in the Standard HTML Editor is 'Maximize the editor size' (looks like a window) and it will expand the textarea to fill your screen.

  • How to create an HTML editor on Apex with the buttons for editing?

    Hi,
I would like to have an online editor similar to the one I am using to post this thread with a bold, itallic and links button.
I see there are HTML editor items, however it doesn't have the bold, font buttons when I create the page?
Below are from the HELP section.
HTML Editor Standard - Provides more editing functionality, such as font, format and color, than HTML Editor Minimal.
Text Area with HTML Editor - Provides basic text formatting controls. Note that these controls may not work in all Web browsers.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Thanks. I went to the item area and did not see it after selecting 'Text area'
Only these items which do not have the cool editing features.
    Textarea
    Textarea (auto-height)
    Textarea with Character Counter
Textarea with Character Counter & Spellcheck
    Textarea with Spell Checker
    HTML Editor Minimal
    HTML Editor Standard

  • External HTML editor for RH

    Hi all,
I would be interested in hearing of any external HTML editors
that RH users like using with RH instead of its internal editor.
Somebody please suggest a free (or almost free) HTML editor
that features lots of features, eg, hiliting, split Design/HTML
windows, clean XHTML code and checker.
Wasn't there once some browser called Mozila? Or was it
    called Netscape?

    >> RH MVPS? Adobe Community Expert is the term. There's
no such term as RH MVPS.
Right, now they are called Adobe Community Experts.
    >> As soon as you open the topic in RH's editor it is
    going to rewrite the code.
You know what, I don't care if RH rewrites the code, just as
long as RH leaves the result appearance looking nice, i.e., it
doesn't smash up the appearance .
    >> Go back to your original post here. What is it that
is missing in the RH editor? It will not be the cleaner code. RH7
cleaned up a lot and I expect more from RH8. But until then RH will
rewrite the code so I cannot see the benefit.
It's been a while now before I gave up in disgust, and went
to writing in Word. But I had expected to be able to work in WSYWYG
like in MEW or Word, with powerful style management. I expected
there to be an easy access Styles side pane. There is not. The
numbered lists were not reliable; they restarted when they were not
supposed to. Both numbered and bulleted lists get confused about
their indentation. It's lucky that I once taught myself MEW with
HTML/CSS , so after a short refresher I could go into the HTML view
and clean up all the code and make the lists the way they are
supposed to be. But since I am at a new client and only working
there at 100 hr/month, I had to show some real content output, and
fast, and so I had no more time for RH trial and error. So I went
back to Word (-- 2007, which I also did not know, but since I am
(supposed to be) a Word 2003 guru I knew what I was looking for and
that all the features are supposed to exist -- ) and wrote my first
    drafts with that.
Actually, I am so shocked at RH's bad WSYWGY editor, if I had
any choice I would recommend to my client to look for something
better (if such a thing exists -- dare I mention Flare...), but
since RH is an important TW skill, I want to add it to my skills
list. So if my client has recommended using RH, this is a good
opportunity to learn RH on their account.
I have a feeling that I am eventually going to make a full
circle, i.e., either I won't find cheap/free HTML editor taht does
want I want, or even if I do, I will eventually run into the
problems you mention, and I will end up writing in raw HTML, just
    as you say.
Actually, on 2nd thoughts, I also have to be honest with my
client, and I don't think they would be happy to hear that a guy
who takes over from me at some point, or is hired in addition to
me, would have to write HTML/CSS. They would want to hear that
there is some type of WSYWYG solution for RH, either internal or
    external.
    Tnx,

  • Html editor turkish character problem

There is a problem in jdeveloper 10.1.3 html editor on computers with regional settings set to Turkish. In Turkish, uppercase version of "i" is "İ" (I with a dot at the top) and lowercase version of "I" is "ı". This causes a problem with html tags containing i. If you write "div" jdeveloper doesn't recognize the tag. There is no problem if you write "DIV"
I think html editor converts every tag to uppercase (according to regional setting) in the background and then validates, so "div" becomes "DİV" and it doesn't recognise. To fix this bug, editor must ignore language settings for tags if it converts to uppercase.

We had our share of the four Turkish "i"s. Wouldn't it be easier to just get rid of two of them? :o)
But we had problems in our application and not in the IDE.
If no default locale is specified, then the JVM uses the host's. So maybe it would help to specify a different locale in bin\jdev.conf by adding VM options -Duser.country and -Duser.language. What happens when you add these settings and specify "US" and "en" for example. Does that help?

  • HTML editor with syntax highlighting and UTF-8 support

In an ongoing effort to move our lives into the cloud and into our pockets (and as a part of an article series for a tech blog), me and a friend are trying to completely replace the need for computers with our iPhones.
In some ways, it is going splendidly (Documents to Go Premium + foldable bluetooth keyboard = all my writing needs as a journalist solved). In others, concessions have to be made (as a practicing musician, my options are a bit limited, but with the help of Xewton Music Studio, Multitrack DAW/NanoStudio, etc, I can at least lay down some basic tracks, create basic MIDI compositions, etc).
However, there is one area in where we’ve made no headway at all. My friend has the great misfortune of being blessed with logic , and therefore, unlike me, does honest programming and web app designing work. And as far as we know, there is not a single HTML/script editor with more than just the bare, basic functions in the app store.
    What we need is this:
    * Syntax highlighting
    * Support for UTF-8
A built-in FTP editor would be a nice bonus, but is not essential.
We found one for the iPad, but when we contacted the company behind the app, they revealed no immediate plans for an iPhone version. (They felt coding on the iPhone was, at best, impractical, but they did concede the fact that if there are indeed users who have that need, the existence of an iOS HTML editor would be justified, and possible lucrative, regardless of their feelings on the matter. On that ground, they promised to examine the possibilities to port their iPad app in the future, but so far, no signs.)
Does anyone know of such an app? Rest assured your assistance will be mentioned in the article series should you point us in the right direction

Unfortunately, my friend has offered his iPhone an ultimatum. No syntax highlighting, no computer replacement. It is strange that such as standardized feature has not found its way into any known HTML editor for iOS.
But FTPOntheGo seems to be a great app in general, so thanks!

  • APEX - Spelling check and textarea with html editor

I have an item on the form defines as textarea with html editor. I also need to be able to do spelling check, but the "textarea html editor" only has font features and no spelling check. Is there away to define an item to have both spelling check and font features in APEX? Any response is greately appreciated.
    Thank you,

    MT,
No, this is not a supported region type in APEX 3.2.
You can take a look at jQuery and the number of rich text editors available for it: http://www.queness.com/post/212/10-jquery-and-non-jquery-javascript-rich-text-editors

  • New HTML editor?

Just wanted to find out how others are using/not using the
    new HTML editor in RH7.
Our HTML files are valid, coded HTML, and what the RH editor
does to them is, well, a bit scary. Changing tags, removing
information, removing comments and formatting/line breaks that take
the once well-coded HTML and make a jumble out of them.
So far, we've just been using an external editor to edit the
files, and just used RH to generate the files. RH has had issues
with some XML code in our files for awhile so the editor has always
been problematic (stripping out the XML code) but rather than an
improvement, it seems like the new version is just worse.
    Am I missing something?

about the topic and my point was rhetorical anyway.
Anyhoo, since you ask: Say I need to add a class to a
paragraph tag (say, change <p> to <p class=caption>).
When I press the spacebar after the p to start typing, a
pop-up appears giving me a list of various HTML tags.
    Example:
    quote:
    <h5> ... </h5>
    <h6> ... </h6>
    <head> ... </head>
    <html> ... </html>
...and so on. Why? What does the list mean? Things I
could add? What are they supposed to help me do? Isn't not
as a shortcut to typing because if I double-click one of the listed
items it merely inserts the code and doesn't replace the code
that's already there so I'd end up with
<p<h5></h5>> and end up having to spend time
    correcting that mess.
The pop-up very nearly obscures what I'm typing and so I have
to click elsewhere to get the pop-up to go away. And it happens
    every time.
It's a poke in the eye. I thought the HTML editor would be
more convenient, but now? I prefer using Notepad by an order of
magnitude. (And it's moot anyway since the HTML editor is broken--a
    problem
    I
described awhile back resurfaced and we're out of ideas on how
    to fix it.)

  • Javascript error with HTML Editor

    HI,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a javascript error which appears upon page load. It only appears in internet explorer,
This person appears to have solved the problem but does not explain where abouts they made the change required.
FCK Rich Text Editor aka HTML Editor Standard IE Error/Bug
This problem also appears on the apex demo of new features.
If anyone can respond with help, it would be greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Kev

    Hello Kevin,
This is a difficult issue as the init code for the editor item is being generated internally by the APEX engine, and we don’t have any control over it. As I see it, a complete solution can only be provided by the APEX team.
Until then I’m using a workaround, based on the original init code. The FCK Editor takes a standard textarea and convert it into the editor item, based on its init parameters.
First I’m uploading the FCK JavaScript code, using the page HTML Header Text (If you are using the editor a lot, you can define a page template to do that for you). The code is:
<script type="text/javascript" src="/i/fck/fckeditor.js"></script>Now I’m using a regular textarea item as the base item for the editor. I’m using a regular onload event to init this item:
onload="initFCK('P80_MY_EDITOR');"The JavaScript function I’m using is similar to the following:
    function initFCK(pItem) {
                var oFCKeditor        = new FCKeditor(pItem) ;
                oFCKeditor.BasePath   = "/i/fck/" ;
                oFCKeditor.Width      = '760';
                oFCKeditor.Height     = '105';
                oFCKeditor.ToolbarSet = 'Basic' ;
                oFCKeditor.Config[ "AutoDetectLanguage" ] = false;
                oFCKeditor.Config[ "DefaultLanguage" ]    = "en";
                oFCKeditor.ReplaceTextarea() ;
}Of course, the init parameters can be changed according to your specific needs.
This code works fine on IE and FF (didn’t check other clients).
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • HTML Editors and Greek Language

    Hi all,
When using the HTML Editor the value that is stored in the database
    is
    &Delta &epsilon &nu &upsilon &pi ά&rho &chi &epsilon &iota&alpha &pi ό&theta &epsilon &mu &alpha (Deleted ; in the end of each character so that I can show you what I mean).
    instead of Δεν υπάρχει απόθεμα
This doesn't happen when I use text item or text area.
Can I do something about it?
    APEX version 3.1.0.00.32
    Thanks in advance

    Peggy,
FrontPage 97 / 98 have both worked really well for us, however we
discovered a slight hitch with 98 where the Editor would gobble up
<?FORTE ..> tags inside the SELECT OPTION tag, but you can work around
that one, apart from this FP98 is a great HTML editor. I also thought
HotMetal was a good fit. These observations come out of evaluating about
    5-6 leading HTML editors.
Some recommended steps in the process:
    1) Create a prototype by laying out all the HTML using an Editor. Figure
out all the navigation within your web. More recent features seen in
HTML editors such as JavaScript generation and DHTML / CSS support are
really difficult to work out on your own, let the advanced Editors do as
much dirty work for you as poss.
    2) Once the prototype is finalized, for all the pages requiring any
dynamic content generation, figure out all the Tag Handlers you will
need. Change the HTML Content by inserting the FORTE tags as required,
    code the corresponding Handlers.
    3) Figure out the relation between page requests and the security
requirements for your pages, design the Session properties and data
tracing across requests using the Session object.
    4) Do refer to all the Tech Notes on the Forte web site for known
    issues.
As for the Java applets frontend, we have used Java - IIOP - Forte since
early beta through every Forte release (3.0.X) and it works fine with
    WebEnterprise and release 30f2.

  • [KM] HTML editor

    Hello,
Anybody know, why documents created directly in KM can be editable by html editor and document uploaded to KM by webdav can be not? (both are simple html docs)
What is the difference between those 2 types of documents?
    regards
    Artur

Well the reason is just as disturbing:
The HTML editor lacks a bunch of features that you would expect from a normal HTML editor. The problem is that in many cases it's not capable of showing HTML created with a HTML editor outside of the portal. It's simply not capable of recognizing all the tags and would probably just mess the HTML up.
So instead of giving us a decent HTML editor, SAP made a workaround which only makes it posssible to edit HTML files that was original created in the KM editor...
    cheers,
    Vegard

  • Textarea with HTML editor is not working

    Hi all,
This is producing me a real headache.
I created the simplest application in the world with one Textarea with HTML editor, and the editor control does not show the usual tool bar for fonts, color, alignment, etc. Just a ordinary textarea.
Moreover, this was working before... I moved to another location in my work (me, not the server). Yes, I thought about the Internet Explorer, but Firefox has the same issue.
So any idea I can try to make this work?
I have another applications already in production with the same issue.
    Need help!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks in advance.

    Lukas,
I would go and integrate FCKEDITOR (http://www.fckeditor.net/ ) into your application.
Here are instructions on how to achieve this (sorry but only in German):
    http://www.oracle.com/global/de/community/tipps/einbinden_fckeditor/index.html
    It basically means:
    1) copying the files from fckeditor under the /images directory
(you can use the instructions here: http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/03/where-are-images-of-application.html)
    2) creating two shortcuts INCLUDE_EDITOR_SCRIPTS and EDITOR
    3) placing the shortcut INCLUDE_EDITOR_SCRIPTS into the page html header and
    4) placing the shortcut EDITOR into the post element text of your plain textarea element
    That's it.
BTW, FCKEDITOR has been included in Apex 3.0 as a standard item type.
    Regards,
    ~Dietmar.
