Jdeveloper connecting with SQL Server Express

Hi i am trying to connect jdeveloper with SQL Server Express. At the moment i am getting a TCP/IP connection to the host error message.
My connection string is as follows:
Class.forName("com.micorosoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver")
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sqlserver://mustang/sqlexpress; database = matt1; Uid = matt; Pwd = matt1")
Can someone please help me!

Enable TCP/IP protocol. Select Microsoft SQL Server 2005>Configuration Tools>SQL Server Configuration Manager. In the SQL Server Configuration Manager select the node SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration>Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. Right-click on the TCP/IP node and select Enable. Restart the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service. In Adminstrative Tools>Services, right-click on the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service and select Restart.
To configure a JDBC connection with SQL Server 2005 Express, add SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver JAR file <Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver>/sqljdbc_1.0/enu/sqljdbc.jar to classpath. <Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver> is the directory in which SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver zip file is installed.
Driver class for SQL Server 2005 database is com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver. Connection URL for the default SQL Server 2005 database is jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:<port>.
In the connection URL, <port> is obtained from the SQL Server configuration Manager. When the SQL Server 2005 SQLEXPRESS is restarted the port number changes.
To obtain the <port> in the SQL Server Configuration Manager, select the node SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration>Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. Right-click on TCP/IP node and select Properties. Select the IP Addresses tab. In IP ALL, the TCP Dynamic Ports specifies the <port> value. The connection URL format for another database name is shown in following listing.

    Hi DianaWeb,
It's glad to hear that your problem is resolved by changing the windows authentication into mixed authentication and use 'sa' user, namely an SQL Server authentication.
I believe the user name and password in the Netbean are for SQL Server Authentication to connect to SQL Server. The windows authentication you typed is not a valid SQL Server Authentication, that was why the connection failed.
In any case, if you want your J2EE project connects to SQL Server using Windows authentication(credentials of the user running Tomcat/Jboss where your application is deployed). Just build your JDBC URL like this:
    jdbc:sqlserver://localhost;integratedSecurity=true;
    See
Can I connect to SQL Server using Windows Authentication from Java EE webapp?
If you have any question, feel free to let me know.

  • Connecting BI Web Server with SQL Server Express / Visual Studio Express for Report Development

    Hi,
My company is using the Report Builder 3.0 to build the BI Reports ( I guess based on SQL Server 2008 R2). Our software vendor has provided us the web URL to access the BI Server. I want to generate the BI Reports with SQL Server Express or  Visual
Studio Express instead of Report Builder 3.0. Need some guidance in this regard.
    regards, BI.Developer.

    Hi,
Based on my research, if we want to open the report from report server to Business Intelligence Development Studio, we should download the report from report manager, then add this item in Business Intelligence Development Studio. For more details, please
    see the following steps:
Type the URL in IE browser to access the repot manager.
Browse to the RDL file folder or location.
Hover over the report, and click the drop-down arrow near the RDL file.
Click on download button, the download window will pop up now. Then save the rdl file.
Click Manage option in the drop-down list, make a note of its Data Source Connection string.
Create a Report Server Project in Business Intelligence Development Studio.
Right-click the Reports folder to open the Add Existing Item dialog box, navigate to the location where you saved the .rdl file for the report, and then click Add.
Right-click the Data Source to verify the connection string is correct.
Besides, please make sure that software vendor had assigned ‘View reports’, ’Manage reports’, ‘Manage folder’ and ‘Manage data sources’ tasks for your account, so that you can download the report and view the data source.
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

  • Connectivity Pack & SQL Server Express

I am considering purchasing the connectivity pack but am
unsure if it will work with SQL Server Express (advanced edition).
I really don't want to purchase the full blown SQL Server 2005 so
your help would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a follow up from adobe techincal support.
Thank you for contacting Technical Support.
You wanted to know if RoboEngine could be integrated with SQL
Server Express. Just like what is indicated in the TechNote, The
version of the SQL Server that is supported is 7/ 2000. When
RoboEngine was developed, it was tested to work with this version
only of SQL Server. That is why our support is limited up to this
    version of the SQL server.
I hope this information has helped you.
I think I would have felt better if they just said, "No, it
wont work." Anyway, I don't want to spend the money on the CP if a
newer roboengine will come out that "should" support a new
    database.

  • How do I make a connection to SQL Server Express using SQL Developer 1.5.3?

How do I make a connection to SQL Server Express using SQL Developer 1.5.3, if it's possible at all?
Also, I received a SQL Server dump file of some sort. Is there any way to read this file in SQL Developer and migrate the db to Oracle? Unfortunately I don't have raw DDL and DML for this database--just some sort of a binary dump file from SQL Server.
    Thanks.
    Dana

Are you using SQL Developer 1.5.3 or 1.5.4?
If using an older version (i.e. 1.5.3), then you'll have to add a DLL to your environment. This is [ntlauth.dll].
If you don't find this DLL in your SQL Developer directory, then obtain the JDBC SQL SERVER Pluggin (jtds-1.2.2-dist.zip) from:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=33291&package_id=25350
Copy the ntlmauth.dll in the ...\\...\ide\lib directory (no need to register it).
Note: this approach should work if using DQL Developer 1.5.3 and SQL Server Express 2008

I am working with J2EE tutorial and when i tried SavingsAccount Entity bean to connect with SQL Server 2000(other than default Cloudscape)and I'm also having SQL Server 2K JDBC Driver installed. I also made entries in Server Configuration menu of J2EE deployment tool for this MS JDBC Driver for SQL Server 2K,I will enclose my dbName and connection method in the entity bean , but i am getting error like this.
my data base name in SQL Server 2K is 'rajeshrNew'.

  • Failed to Establish connection with SQL Server

hi I have configured odbc settings and when i connect the sql from essbase i got the error :Failed to Establish connection with SQL Server .please hepl me on this
and please give me step by step process for how to resolve thi issue.and give me detail step by step from starting onwards.
    appreciate your Help,
    Thank u
    Subbu.

    Steps:
    1. Test database connection from Essbase server through SQL Command. This gives you whether you are able to connect to Database from Essbase server.
    2. Create ODBC Connection: System DSN>Add>Select correct driver (Oracle in ...) >give Datasource (any name), Description (Any), TNS Service Name (user SID name), User name (Database user name)
    3. Test Connection. if successful, you can use this ODBC to get the data.
    4. Open rules file, go to FILE>Open SQL
    5. Provide Essbase server, Application, Database names
    6. Select SQL Data Source from the list (ODBC defined in step2)
    7. Enter tested SQL Query(which is tested at SQL command or "sysdate from dual" ) in select box. NOTE: Remove select word from query. You can ignore from and where clauses, all you can include in select block.
    8.Click OK/Reteive data

  • Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Drivers 4.0.2206 timeout on first connection to SQL Server Express after it sleeps

Our builds kick off and run integration tests. They are configured to hit a SQL Server Express server.
If the builds have been quiet for a while, the first test to connect fails after stalling for 20 minutes.
    Subsequent tests are fine.
Reversing test order does the same thing, with a different test.
We noticed in the SQL Server express log the server saying it is waking up after being idle.
Microsoft SQL Server Express with Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Drivers 4.0.2206.
Connection times out after 20 minutes.Occurs with the first connection made after the SQL Server Express server wakes up from going to sleep.Connections after the first are just fine, until SQL Server Express sleeps.SSL enabled. Timeout duration for the connection failure is unaffected by setting timeout options for the connection.  Work around:
cron-like job that runs every minute that makes a simple query on the server keeps the server from going to sleep.
Has anyone else run into this?

    Hello,
SQL Server Express will go to sleep if idle, this behavior is not configurable.
When SQL Express transitions from idle to active some of the memory that was released needs to be reclaimed; this results is a slight lag during "startup time" when you're first connecting to SQL Express.
The other sort of sleep occurs when a database with AUTO_CLOSE unloading itself after a period of inactivity. This can be resolved by setting AUTO_CLOSE to false.
You can refer to the following blog about more details about this:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlexpress/archive/2008/02/22/sql-express-behaviors-idle-time-resources-usage-auto-close-and-user-instances.aspx
You can try to upgrade the SQL Server Express to a non-free version to get rid of this.

  • Totally frustrated with SQL Server Express Install

Before updating my PC to Windows 8.1 I had a working VS 2008 environment and SQL Express 2005. Now that I have upgraded the OS, I am unable to get any version of SQL Server Express to work with my version of Visual Studio. I spent a couple of weeks trying
to get what should have been a very simple process of creating a working connection string. None of the examples on several "connection string" web sites worked. I had difficulty installing the correct version and finally zeroed in on SQL
Server Express 2008 (SP3).  Then, after several posts to community forums I discovered it should have been installed BEFORE I installed VS 2008 ... so, very reluctantly, I uninstalled EVERY SQL Server related file and EVERY VS 2008 file on my system.
Reinstalled SQL Server 2008 (SP3), SQL Server Management Studio 2104 (even though I selected SSMS 2008 from the MS Download site), then installed VS 2008.  I opened and created a test DB using SSMS 2014 and everything seems to work.  BUT, when I
try to access the table from VS 2008 I pretty much am running into similar issues.... Like an earlier post on a frustrated user, WHY is it so difficult now?

    Hello,
You can use Visual Studio 2008 with SP1 installed, but SQL Server 2005 is not supported on Windows 8. I will recommend you to uninstall
SQL Server 2005 via Control Panel or use the following article for that purpose:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967
Once SQL Server 2005 is uninstalled you can install other newer versions of SQL Server. SQL Server 2008 requires SP3 to make it compatible with Windows 8, while SQL Server 2008 R2 requires SP1. For more information, please read the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562
    Hope this helps.

  • Sql developer won't connect with SQL server database on cluster

    Hello,
I have a microsoft SQL server database on a windows cluster. Name for this cluster is like XXX/YYY
When I try to connect to this database with SQL developer, I get a failure, mentioning:
"Status : Failure -Cannot connect to Miscrosoft SQL Server on XXX/YYY"
As far as I know, I have installed the correct jtds driver (version 1.2.5), since I can connect to sql server databases on single server hosts.
Does anyone know how to connect to databases on windows clusters?

    Hi Ingmar,
Try this is in the port box
    1433/dbname;instance=YYY
    dbname can be omitted
    -Turloch

1/Giving an instance name in SQLDeveloper connection to SQL Server (from August 2011)
    MS SQL Server Connection
The correct syntax to deal with this is in the port box
    1433/dbname;instance=instance
    dbname can be omitted
    2/cluster configuration (uses instance name)
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1160024/jdbc-connect-string-for-sql-server-cluster
where vvv\iii is the cluster address: jdbc address is:

  • Connection with SQL Server 2000 to SQL Developer 1.2 Migration Workbench

    Hi all,
I keep getting the following error with setup for SQL Developer 1.2 Migration Workbench connection to SQL Server 2000 database:
"Status: Failure -Network error IOException: Connection refused:connect"
I can access the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database with username
and password using Enteprise Manager. However for some odd
reason the Oracle SQL Developer 1.2 cannot connect to it.

I was having this problem too. I'll mangle this explanation, but Our SQLServer instance was on a local server with some named DNS something. So, to get to the server, we used theservername.outdomain instead of an IP. We could never get it to connect through the named server. We got an SQLServer instance going on a server that we could connect to through a regular IP, and it connected just fine.
Also, are you using the JTDS driver, or microsofts driver? We have only been able to connect with the JTDS driver. http://jtds.sourceforge.net/
