JDK Problems - libjava.so

I downloaded and installed "j2sdk-1.3.1-02b-FCS-linux-ppc.bin" from the penguinppc.org web site and followed the instructions. I was able to INSTALL under /usr/local and also changed my PATH variable.....but later when I test my java version it gives following error - wonder why
#./java -version
Error: can't find libjava.so.
I am using IBM PowerPC (pseries) with Red Hat Linux 7.1
Any related information on this is appreciated.
THANKS!

This isn't very on-topic for this thread, but there are some issues that should be brought up.
First - for modern PPC machines running a Linux kernel, the j2se1.3.x is ancient, and crashes often with programs compiled with gcc-3.x.x, if it runs at all. This means most recent distributions, from Debian to Fedora and Mandrake and everything in-between - though i only know the state for java on Debian most closely.
I was wondering if Sun forgot about PPC and other non-x86 platforms - did they suddenly forget they even exist? IIRC, there are something like *20* architectures that can run a linux kernel for 2.6.x, and some 15-odd or more for 2.4.x kernels.
I suggest that there should be more work put into porting java to more platforms for Linux, since there are so many machines running it now, and I think it would be a wise move on Sun's part to do so.
As to the options PPC users have - we have Blackdown or IBM's ports - BLackdown has only the ancient 1.3.x and IBM doesn't build the browser plug-in in their 1.4.x (yes I've read their FAQ and install guide).
As to LD_LIBRARY_PATH, that shouldn't be used - it's a security risk, and not needed. All you need to do is edit /etc/ld.so.conf to include the path to the java binaries and libraries, and include the path to the java binaries in your $PATH env. var.

  • JTextPane and XMLParser and jdk .-) problems

    Hi there.
I have a nice problem, which really gives me headaches.
I have an XML editor (working as an applet or as an aplication, using a JTextPane). All worked ok untill jdk1.3 and parts even until jdk1.4. Now 2 big problems appeared.
    1.Under jdk1.4.1:
Spaces between lines are awful big. The actual characters are ok, but the cursor is almost twice as the characters. The distance from the bottom of a character and the bottom of the line is pretty big. Now that looked to me as a SpaceBelow or LineSpacing problem. I've tried to set up the SpaceBelow or/and LineSpacing... everything that I've thought it should work. No result. Seems like they have no effect when XMLParser comes in place and sets up the document content (at least i think this is the reason, also i'm not sure). An element tree implemented shows me that this attributes are set to the values I've intended, but no 'visual' effect. Does anyone know ANYTHING about this? Please!
2.Starting from jdk1.3. Doubling of tags.
If the XML editor reads something like <FT>something</FT> from a xml file, it sets in the JTextPane <FT><FT>something</FT></FT>. It's working under jdk1.2 but if I switch to 1.3 or 1.4does something like this. Any idea what's going on? Could it be an unfortunate mix between jdk and xalan libraries?
I REALLY hope that ANYONE of you knows ANYTHING about these!!!
    THNX!

    Hi DrClap.
Well, this would be the best thing to do. The only problem is that those are long time gone. Not really 'gone', but they are not to be found.
There's something about first problem: At the end of starting process, after the parser finished his work, if I come and set the attributes (in the document of the JTextPane, using StyleConstants) with replace set to true, the display is ok but, of course, I loose any style defined in the xml file. That means is not a problem of the JTextPane in jdk 1.4 (at one time I thought it might be a 'mapping' problem of the JTP in 1.4) or?
Because I'm really stuck, I have all kind of strange ideas!!!
Could be "old libraries(for the parser) - new jdk" mixture problem, perhaps? (I've told you!)
    THX for your previous response.

  • Java JDK problem

I downloaded Java JDK, and when I tried to install it, it keeps giving me an error message.
"Error 1311.Source file not found. C\Users\David\Appdata\Localow\Sun\Java\jdk1.6.0_18\sb160180.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it"
Could you please tell how to resolve this problem with Java JDK.

  • Different JDK problems: Unsupported major minor version

We have a very large application, with a client that runs on a PDA and a client (and server) that will run on a normal desktop computer...
These clients use partially the same code, and partially specific code.
For the PDA-client we're bound to Creme (it's something like jdk 1.3) and for the Desktop-client we want to go to JDK 6.
Now I'm getting the error Unsupported major minor version 50 insteadof 47...
What would be the best solution to this problem?
    - Should I try to split all common files (increasing the amount of code and the maintenance to the code)
    - Or should I keep the commonfiles compiled with JDK 1.4.2 (adding another necessary JDK, a lot of checkstyle complaints, and not the ability to use the new Java-functionality like generics etc...
    - Or is there a better way?
Any help would be grately appreciated :)

    by reading the documentation.
You have your system set up wrong. This is common with people who don't read the documentation.
If after reading the documentation you still can't get it to work, try the search option.
The answer to your question has been supplied dozens, nay hundreds, of times already and is easy to find.
If you still can't get it, find something else to do, like labelling mail for advertising campaigns.

  • Oracle Lite installation - 'Missing or Incorrect version of JDK' problem

    Dear Experts,
I am attempting to install Oracle Lite 10g and when I go through the Universal Installer steps, after asking to install the demo applications, the next screen gives me 'Missing or Incorrect version of JDK'.
I have downloaded the J2EE package from Sun and put it in a separate directory. This version is 1.4.2 and I have got the following in my environment varibles:
    PATH is 'C:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1
    \NETWORK\ADMIN;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\BIN'
    CLASSPATH is ''C:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin'
I have Oracle 10g EE database already installed and my operating system is MS Windows 2000 service pack 4. When I navigate to 'C:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin' and type '>java -version' I get 'build 1.4.2_...'
    Many thanks for your help,
    Mark

It appears the problem was that I had J2EE 1.4.2 and actually required J2SDK 1.4.2 i.e. the Standard edition rather than the Enterprise edition. Even though there are exactly the same files in the 'bin' directory in both versions. The installation now works.

    HELP!!

    Hi,
You have not set the jspengine path to your environment. add the two line to your environment variable.
Remember, the directory structure for the following line may vary. use your directory structre. i have used iws6.0
    c:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/jar/servlet.jar;
c:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/jar/jspengine.jar *.java; { there must be a space after the jar }..
Also in your web administration server, under global settings/configure jdk/jre paths, make sure the radio button JDK is checked.
Once you made all the settings, restart the server and try.
    Good Luck,
    Ramkumar

  • Use WebEngine to view applet demo of JDK problem

When I used webEngine to view applet demo of JDK like this:
    WebEngine webEngine = new WebEngine("file:///C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_25/demo/applets/BarChart");
I got message on the page inside JavaFX like this:
alt="Your browser understands the <APPLET> tag but isn't running the applet, for some reason." Your browser is completely ignoring the <APPLET> tag!
So, my question is how can I embed applet in webEngine or can webEngine embed applet?
    Thank you very much!

There are a few known bugs related to webengine:
    • Issue RT-12439: WebView can not be gc-ed (garbage-collected).
Description: Memory leak causes the application to crash with an out-of-memory error on web sites that have a lot of content, running scripts, and automatic updates.
Workaround: To be able to reclaim the WebEngine object, call the webView.setEngine(null) method.
    • Issue RT-12440: WebView is updated even when it is invisible.
    Description: Performance is impacted.
Workaround: Include a call to the webView.setEngine(null) method in your application.

    Where you get the
    jdk 1.4.2_19
? For windows now you need read and download the -->
Note 716604 - Access to Sun J2SE and recommended J2SE options
In any case 1.4.2_19  looks like not good version per note (depending nex B version).
P.S. are your system are 32 bit or 64, and j2se are 32 or 64 , check it also.

  • JDK Problem - URGENT

One of our customers has recently migrated from 1.3.1 to 1.4.1.
Unfortunately our GUI now behaves incorrectly. In particular when calling a method to invoke a dialog box fails. All the user sees is the small blue strip at the top of the box. All the other parts are missing. Also, some of the other functionality takes far longer to perfrom.
I was wondering what has been depricated in this version. Unfortuately, the applet was developed and is still maintained using Symantec Visual Studio 2.5! I am unable to replicate this problem in our developement environment.
If our customer uses opts to use the MVM the GUI behaves normally. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gary.

I'm not a Java GUI developer so I don't know what the problem might be, but it isn't deprecations. A deprecated method has no effect on functionality, and if a previously deprecated method has been removed it won't run at all.

  • JDK problems

i just installed jdk1.1.6 and also commm API..
I can compile my java programs...but however i cannot run them..
    after
    javac myfile.java
    java myfile"can't find class TestComm"
am i missing something in my installation?

automatically ? ... well modifying the autoexec.bat is an option, if you are on windows 2000 or XP u'd need to modify the environment variable CLASSPATH via Control Panel - that should permit you to use the new classpath settings whenever u run ur program without having to worry about setting or resetting ur classpath - other way is to compose a batch that sets this classpath and then calls ur program - u could also create command like java -cp <ur custom classpath> myfile and run the program - that way u'd not have to worry about resetting ur environment classpath variable when u run multiple different java applications -
    hope the above helps

  • JRE/JDK Problem with Applet/Servlet scenario

    Hi there!
I'am forced by my company to upgrade an old Java application. The situation is, that an signed applet calls several servlets (running on Tomcat 4.x or 5.x) over http(s).
In former times both, servlet container and applet, were using jre 1.4.1.x
(The servlet container was ServletExec, so a jre was sufficient).
Everything was working fine, if the client was using the 1.4.1 jre.
But on later versions (1.4.2.x) the whole Applet-jar was downloaded from the server per user interaction, whats definitly not acceptable as customers still using isdn or nowadays umts.
    Any sugesstions?
    Thanks

And the answer is the same. You will have to open multiple connections. One for each time want to send data to the Servlet, because that is how HTTP works.
Try a simple case, where you want to send a single object through to the Servlet, then read the response.
When that works, repeat it for every subsequent time you want to send or recieve data.
If you want to have continuous communication between the server and the client, you do not want to use HTTP.
