JFileChooser and windows shortcuts (lnk files)

Is there any way to get JFileChooser to follow windows shortcuts? I am using 1.4.1_01 on XP, which is full of "helpful" shortcuts to things like shared picture folders, etc, which JFileChooser chokes on.
I would think Sun would implement support for the underlying lnk files, since this is an OS issue.

Ok, I found a bug report for this, with a workaround hack. I'll post it here for anyone who is interested.

I am trying to reinstall Windows (would not launch).  I removed the partition and started over.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."  I was successful before, what am I doing wrong this time?

    Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Problems with JFileChooser and Windows 2000 (can't see mydocuments contents

Hi! I've an applet which has a JFileChooser component. In other Windows, I can select the MyDocuments folder and it goes there and list all the contents OK. But, in Windows 2000, when I go to MyDocuments, none of the contents is listed in the file chooser. I need to navigate through all the directories to get there (C:\documents and settings\user\my documents) and then, it shows its contents, but obviously, I don't want it to be this way because is difficult for the common user.
Any idea of why is going on this?
    Thanks in advance!

Hello, You need to use something like o=isp as the
root DN, then o=yourorg.com goes beneath it.
    i.e.
For the other questions on setup, just choose o=isp
as base DN when you set up the directory server. When
you run ims_dssetup.pl, choose o=internet as the DC
tree base, then choose o=isp as the user/groups base
    suffix.
When you are installing messaging server it will ask
where to put the default organization, this is where
    you would choose o=abc.com, o=isp
For more info on how this structure works please take
a look at this link and it will all fit into place:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6017-10/changes.htm#170
8Alright, I got ims_dssetup to run successfully. But now when the ims 5.2 installation is about 50% done, I get the message:
A serious problem occurred while installing the iPlanet Messaging Server Messaging SIE entry in LDAP (msg.cfgldap.sie.inf). It reported the following problem:
The server configuration for the Messaging SIE entry in LDAP (msg.cfgldap.sie.inf) cannot be created.

  • JFileChooser and other types of "file" systems

    Good afternoon...
just wondering how reasonable it would be to modify JFileChooser to work with other types of file systems. such as .zip archives, remote FTPs, etc.
any ideas where i should start?
i even want to use this for something that doesn't contain files at all, but the analogy works perfectly.

  • JFileChooser opens .lnk files as separate files

When .lnk file is chosen in a JFileChooser,
it returns this .lnk file. How to make the chooser to return the file this .lnk links to ?
    THANK YOU!

Dear Dude, the .lnk files are Win32 executable files.
(and so can be infected by virus)
The only true links I know are in Unix-like file systems !!
Windows LNK files are system-specifics, so it is not Java conern to handle them !
Do as rustypup advise you to do, but it is easier to say than to do !!

  • Macintosh alias vs windows shortcut on CD

I have a CD containing a snapshot of a website for archival purposes. It has to be readable on a windows machine. To make it easier for users to access I have created an alias that points to a file index.html. The alias is in the root directory of the CD. All the contents of the website are in a folder also located in the root directory. The CD has been burned successfully (using toast) and is fully functional on a mac. On a windows machine the alias appears as a zero byte file and no longer links to index.html. Open the folder - all the files work. I have found out that mac alias and windows shortcut work differently and this seems to be the cause of the problem.
I know I could refer users to the original file using a readme.html. I also know I could move index.html to the root directory but this would require a lot of links to be re-coded.
Is there any way to make a shortcut that windows will recognise on a mac? This would be my preferred solution.

Does sticking to web safe colours make a difference?
No. That's just a set of colors that is evenly distributed across the color space. There's really nothing special about the colors themselves; they aren't magic or better than any others.

  • What format for my external drive allows use with Mac and Windows?

I got an external hard disk (1 tr) and i want to used it for my windows and mac, i read i can have two partitions one for mac and one for windows, but i dont really want to have two parts, and I read i can format it by fat32 and i can write and read on both os, is that true?
I want to use it for movies, os backups, and files..
Is it true that i can only save files up to 4 GB when the format is fat32?
    please advise..

It this case you would need to to go to "Disk Utility" on mac and select 3 partions which will be under the Parition Layout in my screen shot below. "Current" is grayed out that will drop down select 3 partitions and make one NTFS, second Mac OS Extended, third FAT32. Using the FAT32 for both Mac and Windows but the files have to be under 4GB each.

  • Files copied as .lnk files to usb and does not show up in Windows

When I copy files from the MBP to a USB disk, instead of copying the files as is, the Mac converts the files into a .LNK file, which then shows up as "shortcuts" rather than the copied file in Windows. Why is this?

same here.. it happened after installing Lion and updating iTunes
My nano does not appear on iTunes or desktop, however it charges.
    iPod nano 2nd Gen
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7
    iTunes 10.4
please don't tell me that Apple added my lovely nano to Black list !!

  • Desktop and Start Program icon .LNK File Associations

The file associations for .LNK files on a Vista Home Premium SP1 computer have changed from their default association to another application program, ie. Internet Explorer Picture Viewer, with the result that none of the program shortcut icons or desktop icons launch their respective programs - they all attempt to launch Explorer.  Changing the file association on an individual shortcut results in all shortcuts being changed to the selected program.  Is there a way to change the .LNK file associations back to the Windows default in order to relate the shortcuts to their respective application program?

Hi, thanks for the post. We can modify registry to fix the issue. Let's download the file below:
    http://cid-4fc3e8fc77f77286.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/lnkfix.zip
Compress the zip file and simply double click the .reg file and it will some add registry entries, restart the computer and see if the issue is resolved.
    Hope this helps!

  • Drag and drop shortcut files.

If I drag a shortcut file (.lnk) into my air application how
can I get a reference to the file the shortcut is related to
    instead of the shortcut file?
    Thanks!

    thanks for your reply ctzn99,
I have figured that part out myself though, because if you
open a notepade.exe and drop in a mylink.url it is very simple to
see the path and grab it with a string manipulation with air. but
if you drag a shortcut.lnk into notepad it is very different and
    looks alot more cryptic.
I was hoping there was a method for getting the target file
from a shortcut. even if I try to use:
    NativeApplication.nativeApplication.getDefaultApplication("lnk")
there is no default application either

  • Transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows

I need to migrate users from Mac (CS 5.5) to Windows 7 (CS 6). I have tried to transfer a user's custom keyboard shortcut set by copying the .indk file to the appropriate folder on the PC, and although it shows up in the list, when I try to select the set I get an error saying it is in the wrong format or the file could be damaged. Is there a way of transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows?

Shortcut sets seem to be human-readable text files, so you could try making a copy and doing some editing, changing cmd to ctrl and opt to alt, and change the platform value in the first line to "win" though I can't make any promise it will work.
There are also some known problems trying to migrate legacy sets into newer versions of ID since CS5, I think.

  • Lnk files are appearing and Adboe acrobat reader can't open them

2 days ago I sent a file from my other laptop to this Toshiba one, when I went to open it it didn't open, it said it was a LNK file, now all the icons on my desktop are showing as lnk files and saying adobe can't open them as they are not supported or not coded correctly.
Also when I click on all programmes they are all saying Adboe can't open them? All my files seem to have changed? Has anyone got any ideas what has happened and also how I can reset it?
    Thanks

Hi,did you copy and paste the files or drag and drop the files through network folder, lnk extensions are shortcut links, try reconnecting the laptop to the network and try opening again,if you need the files on your laptop make sure the whole file is sent, check file size by right clicking then selecting properties the file size is there then compare both files.
