JMF + tomcat
Hey pple,
I encountered this annoying problem while trying to run a jmf media player applet on tomcat(6.0). My browser just hangs and it returns this error:
{color:#0000ff}
Could not find error.connectionerror
java.io.IOException: Unable to open a URL connection

The applet runs perfectly on my machine though. I think my classpath is properly set . . . would realy appreciate some help.
I answered my own question. Don't deploy the JMF libraries in the war webapp context archive stick them in shared/lib.

Thanks,

I have an applet that plays a video from a HTTP URL and it works fine as an application and runs fine in appletviewer. But, when the applet is run in a browser I get this error: Error instantiating class: com.sun.media.protocol.http.DataSource: java.io.IOException: Unable to open a URL connection. The rest of the applet functions fine in the browser. Works everywhere but where I want it to. I've read a few things regarding this error but nothing conclusive as far as resolving this problem. I don't think the applet needs to be signed, please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm thinking this is a simple solution and I'm sure I've overlooked something.
Thank you in advance.I did a standard install for the windows version of JMF and it seemed to update the classpath and all just fine. I am using Netbeans and tomcat for testing before deploying to Apache. I copied the jmf.jar files into the tomcat lib folder to ensure it would be resolved by the web engine. But, like I said in my original post all works fine in the appletviewer and fails when the applet is included in a web page, although the rest of the applet works fine in the webpage. So. there's something amiss with the url request by the player.
You may want to reinstall the JMF again and check this article out: http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-04-2001/jw-0406-jmf1.html
Hope some of this helps. -

Need of JMF for getting Video Metadata
Hi All
I got a lot of videos here at a Helix Server. I get all rtsp URLs of them and just want to determine the length and size of each the videos by a Java Application running on a Tomcat. There is no need for streaming the contents or gettein just one Frame of the Video. I have seen that JMF is able to play these Videos, but i just need length and size using the rtsp Protocol.
Did anyone know how to do this?
Greetings
Thomas

Hi friends,
Currently I am dealing with a project which includes distribution of JMF(java media framework) over the web. For this purpose, web start seems a nice approach.
Moreover, JMF requires some native libraries which should be deployed from web start. I had problems at this point and strongly need help. I could not achieve deploying these libraries from web start hence running JMF from web start.
I had no problem at running JMF from local JRE in standard java desktop applications. This means that required dlls can be successfully loaded and linked from standard applications but not from web start applications.
I have read lots of forums and web sites and did what is said (at least I think I did), but could not solve the problem. Most probably, I need to do some simple configurations but at this point I totally dont know what to do. Below, I want to mention shortly what I did to deploy JMF over the web start and the exceptions and error I faced with. I will be very happy if you find something wrong in these steps and tell me what to do:
1. I jared all dlls related with the JMF : To do that, from Eclipse ee, I selected about 15 jmf dlls, right clicked them, chose export as jar, and obtained a jar from these dlls.
2. Then, I signed them using keytool and jarsigner tools of java to give the project unrestricted access for media processing.
3. Then, I added this jar to the webcontent folder of the project with other jars and files.
4. After that, I added following tag to the jnlp file of the project: <nativelib href="http://193.140.214.29:8080/jmfproject/jmf-native-all.jar"/>
5. I also added required System.loadLibrary() methods to my code in the order which gives no problem. (In the forums I read previously, these codes are required to load native dlls to the environment in which project will be run.)
Note: I deployed project on Apache Tomcat Server.
Below, I give my complete jnlp file;
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<jnlp spec="1.0" codebase="http://193.140.214.29:8080/jmfproject" href="http://193.140.214.29:8080/jmfproject/jmfproject.jnlp">

<icon href="http://193.140.214.29:8080/jmfproject/techneon.jpg" kind="splash"/>
</information>
<security>
<all-permissions/>
</security>
<resources OS = "Windows">

<nativelib href="http://193.140.214.29:8080/jmfproject/jmfnative.jar"/>
</resources>
<application-desc main-class="JmfprojectStarter"/>
</jnlp>
And below is the cronical exception I faced with:

Thank you very much for your attention,
My simple project contains 2 classes: JmfprojectStarter, which contains only main method and Jmfproject which is a swing GUI
Below is JmfprojectStarter:
+public class JmfprojectStarter {+
+ /**+
+ * @param args+
+ */+
+ public static void main(String[] args) {+
+ +
+ new Jmfproject();+
+ }+
+}+
And below is the System.loadlibrary part of the Jmfproject class:
+/*+
* Java(TM) SE 6 version.
some import statements
+@SuppressWarnings("serial")+
+public class Jmfproject extends JFrame implements ControllerListener {+
+ some gui component declarations+

+public Jmfproject() {+
+ +
+ System.loadLibrary("jmacm");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmdaudc");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmmpegv");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmutil");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmvcm");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmvfw");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmmpa");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmmci");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmdaud");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmcvid");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmam");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmjpeg");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmh263enc");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmh261");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmgdi");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmg723");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmddraw");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmvh263");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmfjawt");+
+ System.loadLibrary("jmgsm");+
+.+
+.+
+.+
some gui component initiliazations
+.+
+.+
+.+
below is code block where I got the exception(statement in bold throws the exception)
+try {+
+ URL mediaURL = getClass().getResource("media/ungreedy.wav");+
+ player = Manager.createPlayer(mediaURL);+
+ player.addControllerListener(this);+
+ }catch (Exception e) {e.printStackTrace();statusField.setText("player error");}+
player.start();+
As you see, System.loadlibrary methods are not called from main method(although from the same thread). Moreover, I guess there is no problem in the order of method calls since I changed the order untill I do not get "dependency" errors which are thrown when one dll depends on some other one. But in some way, these dlls can not be used by web start according to the part of exception thrown :
at sun.reflect.*NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0*(Native Method)
at sun.reflect.*NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke*(Unknown Source)
at sun.reflect.*DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke*(Unknown Source)
I have no idea at this point:(
Thank you very much again

Problem with JNI and Tomcat (and threads???)
Howdy,
Here is the issue - I would like some help on HOW to debug and fix this problem:
2 test use cases -
1)
a)User goes to Login.jsp, enters user and password
b) User submits to LoginServlet
c) login calls JNI code that connects to a powerbuilder(Yes I know this is ugly) PBNI code module (this is a .dll) that authenticates the user with the database
d) the servlet then redirects to another .jsp page
e) user then submits to LogoutServlet - also a JNI call to a powerbuilder PBNI code module
f) REPEAT STEPS a-e over a few times (inconsistent) and then the call to the JNI code hangs
2)
a) users does NOT goto Login.jsp, but rather calls LoginServlet and passes the userid and password as GET parms
b) user does NOT get redirected to a page (redirect code commented out)
c) user calls LogoutServlet
d) repeat steps a-c at will and no failure, no hanging
The only difference is that in case 1 (with JSP), there is a redirect and it afffected the JNI call by haniging inside JNI code.
In case 2 (without JSP) there is still a JNI call, but it does not hang. In addition, when it hangs and I stop Tomcat, the logs show cleanup entries that say:
Oct 19, 2004 9:17:09 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
Oct 19, 2004 9:17:10 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
Oct 19, 2004 9:17:11 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
Is this a threading issue in Tomcat???
On would assume that the JNI code is not cleaning up after itself, but I don't believe this is the case,
and even if it was, why would I get the tomcat log cleanup entries above???
What do those cleanup entries imply about the state of Tomcat????hi ,
I met the same problem this morning, and searched the www.google.com in order to solve it, as a result, your article was shown on my screen. :)
Till now I have read some technical information and solved my problems. Maybe the solution be useful to you:
==============================
error message : (Environment : Tomcat 5, Windows 2003, Mysql5)
2006-3-29 11:53:48 org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
message: Waiting for 2 instance(s) to be deallocated
==============================
cause: the number of connection to database exceeded.another word,too many connections.
==============================
solution: close the connection when it becomes useless for your program. :)

Web Service Security is not working when migrating application from Tomcat
Hi,
We have a application running successfully in tomcat6 It calls a Webservice call through TIBCO BW interface.
When we deployed the same WAR file in Weblogic 10.3.2, it gives me a error on Prefix[ds] not able to locate namespace URI not found error.
IN Tomcat, its a existing application uses AxilUtility to get the soap messages after signing document for bothe encyption and decryption.
Please anybody help me out, is there any other jars needs to be locate in Weblogic to run this application. Its fine with Tomcat and gives error in Weblogic10.3.2
Please help me out
Thanks in advanceHi Rajkumar,

HOWTO in the Tomcat 5 documentation bundle for more detailed
instructions):
* If your JDK version 1.3 or prior, download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or
later, and put the JAR files into "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext".
* Execute:
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
the keystore itself.
By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

<!-- Defines a cluster for this node,
By defining this element, means that every manager will be changed.
So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
A cluster has the following parameters:
className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
in case of multiple ethernet cards.
auto means that address becomes
InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
false means to replicate the session after each request.
false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
<%
HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
map.put("key","value");
%>
replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
* Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return. This is the same as the 'synchronous' setting except it uses a pool of sockets, hence it is multithreaded. This is the fastest and safest configuration. To use this, also increase the nr of tcp threads that you have dealing with replication.
* Synchronous means that the thread that executes the request, is also the
thread the replicates the data to the other nodes, and will not return until all
nodes have received the information.
* Asynchronous means that there is a specific 'sender' thread for each cluster node,
so the request thread will queue the replication request into a "smart" queue,
and then return to the client.
The "smart" queue is a queue where when a session is added to the queue, and the same session
already exists in the queue from a previous request, that session will be replaced
in the queue instead of replicating two requests. This almost never happens, unless there is a
large network delay.
-->
<!--
When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.
A session is replicated if and only if all the conditions are met:
1. useDirtyFlag is true or setAttribute or removeAttribute has been called AND
2. a session exists (has been created)
3. the request is not trapped by the "filter" attribute
The filter attribute is to filter out requests that could not modify the session,
hence we don't replicate the session after the end of this request.
The filter is negative, ie, anything you put in the filter, you mean to filter out,
ie, no replication will be done on requests that match one of the filters.
The filter attribute is delimited by ;, so you can't escape out ; even if you wanted to.
filter=".*\.gif;.*\.js;" means that we will not replicate the session after requests with the URI
ending with .gif and .js are intercepted.
The deployer element can be used to deploy apps cluster wide.
Currently the deployment only deploys/undeploys to working members in the cluster
so no WARs are copied upons startup of a broken node.
The deployer watches a directory (watchDir) for WAR files when watchEnabled="true"
When a new war file is added the war gets deployed to the local instance,
and then deployed to the other instances in the cluster.
When a war file is deleted from the watchDir the war is undeployed locally
and cluster wide

Error connecting to an EJB 3.0 Remote on OC4J 10.1.3.2 from Tomcat
Hi, I want to connect to a Remote Session Bean running on the OC4J 10.1.3 and it doesn´t work.
I have connected to it from a java standalone application using:
public static void main(String [] args) {
try {
final Context context = getInitialContext();
SessionEJB sessionEJB = (SessionEJB)context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/SessionEJB");
System.out.println(sessionEJB.mergeEntity(""));
System.out.println( "hola" );
} catch (Exception ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
private static Context getInitialContext() throws NamingException {
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
// Standalone OC4J connection details
env.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "oracle.j2ee.naming.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory" );
env.put( Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "oc4jadmin" );
env.put( Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "passw" );
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/ejb3jar");
return new InitialContext( env );
with this application-client.xml file:
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
<application-client xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/application-client_1_4.xsd" version="1.4" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee">

MauricioHi, Rick
Thanks for your help.
I deleted de application-client.xml file, added the following lines to the web.xml file:
<ejb-ref>
<ejb-ref-name>ejb/SessionEJB</ejb-ref-name>
<ejb-ref-type>Session</ejb-ref-type>
<remote>ar.com.eds.ejb3.model.SessionEJB</remote>
</ejb-ref>
and now I´m using oracle.j2ee.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory
there is no error, and it doesn´t throw any exception but the following line returns null.
SessionEJB sessionEJB = (SessionEJB)context.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/SessionEJB");
Its seems the lookup method finds the remote ejb because it doesn´t fail, but it returns null.
Any idea what is wrong?

Problem when rendering a report in BI Publisher deployed on Apache Tomcat
Hello for all.
First, I am going to tell you technical specifications about the software where I have deployed BI Publisher:
1. OS: Windows XP SP3
2. JDK and JRE: 1.6.0_24
3. Apache Tomcat: 5.5.33 (Set JVM Max Memory in 768MB)
4. BI Publisher EE: 10.1.3.4.1
I have deployed BI Publisher on Apache Tomcat without any problem, I uploaded Report files (both XDO and RTF), and I can see the reports in XML output format, but when I try to see the reports rendered by using the rtf file I have configured, BI Publisher shows me an Error; I checked the Apache Tomcat log and the following error is reported:

I checked that the url http://localhost:8080/xmlpserver/SubTemplates/sub-template-parameters.rtf would be accesible via Internet Explorer, and It is accesible.
I am glad if you can tell me what could be the cause of the error.
Thanks.Finally, I stop working in the implementation of BIP over Apache Tomcat; I installed OC4J 10.1.3.5.0 (standalone installation) and I deployed BIP on it.
It seems the error I wrote in last post has been fixed, but actually I am obtaining the following error with the deployment on OC4J:

Install JMF on Windows 7 64bit
Dear all,
After a lot of struggling (and a really mean a lot), I finally got jmf to work on Windows 7 64bit. I figured that I can better not let this information go to waste, so that's why I'm posting it here. I didn't really test the full capabilities of jmf on my platform yet, in fact I only tested those features that I needed for my application. As such I am able to successfully capture and record video clips from my build in webcam of my laptop.
First let me describe my platform:
Laptop: Samsung R590 (JS01)
Processor: I5 450M (64bit)
OS: Windows 7 64bit
Webcam: build in
Secondly I want to apologize in advance if the method below doesn't work for you. The reason for that can be that I had to try so many different things before I finally got it to work, so I'm not really sure which steps are necessary and which ones are not. So I tried to make a guide that only includes the necessary steps, but in reality I tried so much more, so if this tutorial doesn't work for you, please give me feedback, and we'll try to figure it out. :)
Step one: installation of java JRE/JDK
JMF will never work on a 64bit JRE/JDK, plain and simple because JMF is too old and doesn't support a 64bit JRE/JDK. Thus your first step has to be to install a 32 bit JRE/JDK on your system. (I uninstalled my 64 bit JRE/JDK first, but I don't now whether or not this is necessary)
Step two: download JMF with windows performance pack
Go to the jmf site and download the most recent jmf version, with windows performance pack. (This is - and will probably be forever - version 2.1.1e)
The link to the website is currently: [https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=7372-jmf-2.1.1e-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Developer]
Step three: install JMF
Install the file you just downloaded in the normal way you would install any other program. But chose as installation path: "C:\JMF2.1.1e"
I think this is necessary because of the strict security policy in Windows 7, if you don't do this, I guess jmf won't be able to store capture device settings to your local hard drive. (But again, I'm not completely sure here, please verify this if possible)
After the installation, you don't have to do anything special to get jmf to work, so you don't manually have to set the JMFDIR, PATH and CLASSPATH (as is explained at the sun website), just skip those steps.
After the installation, reboot your pc.
Remark: I recommend you to install jmf as an administrator (but I don't now whether or not this is necessary). To do this, right click the installation file and select: "run as administrator'.
*Step four: register your capture devices*
First make sure that all your devices are working properly, I recommend you to use a program like Skype or something just to check whether your microphone is working or not.
Secondly, open jmfstudio, select 'file > preferences > capture devices', and press the button 'detect capture devices'. Normally you will have to wait for a couple of minutes now (because the determination of all the available video formats takes quite a while). Afterwards jmf should have found all of your devices, that usually looks something like this:
DirectSoundCapture
JavaSound audio capture
vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):0
But this can vary according to your configuration off course. :)
*Step four: test your capture devices*
In jmfstudio, select 'file > capture' and select the video and audio combo and see if your webcam settings work. You should now be able to view and hear yourself.
*Step five: that's it, enjoy your jmf*
*Remarks:*
My development platform is currently netbeans 6.9.1 and I am able to write code, build it and run it with netbeans. I can also just run normal *.jar files
*Troubleshoot:*
If you get a dialog screen when starting your video capture device that looks like this: [http://www.alexandria.nu/ai/machine_vision/dual_cameras/SelectDevice.gif]
(With off course another name for the capture device), then that means that your capturing device is currently occupied by another program and you can't currently use it.
To solve this, make sure that no other application is using the webcam. For me even this was insufficient, but I managed to solve this by installing the latest drivers for my webcam from the manufacturing site of my laptop.
I sincerely hope this tutorial can be of any use for someone, feel free to give me comments/suggestions. And please post here if this works for you or not.
Greetings, MollyHi
sure I follow each of your steps, I uninstall all java verisones and installed a new java version 32-bit, I installed JMF in "C: \ JMF2.1.1e".
when all installing finished, works fine JMF only once, I do the tests, recognizes the device; shows the video, but when I close and open again JStudio don't works throws error, and therefore my apliación not working, always returns null the device -

Hello anyone
Now I use jdk1.4 and Tomcat 4.0.4, and put in the directory d:\j2sdk and d:\tomcat. Even I set the classpath as follow, I still compile jsp.
SET CLASSPATH=.;D:\j2sdk\lib\tools.jar;D:\tomcat\common\lib\servlet.jar
but at before, i can run it at Tomcat 3.2.

pls help, thank you very much!This is a new problem with jdk1.4 when compiling with tomcat.
The solution is to ensure that any classes in WEB-INF/classes are in a package structure and the relevant jsp calls the same using the package name.
