Joining the cube members in OBI

Hi
I have got the following members in cube :
Years
--- 2007
---- 2008
---- 2009
Year
---- Quarter
----- Month
----- Day
and the other FACT members.
Now When I am importing the cube into OBI there would be two separate tables and drill down would be limited to each table like clicking on Years will give me 2007, 2008 and 2009 and clicking on Year will give me Q1, Q2,...Q4 clicking on Q1 will give Jan , Feb ..Mar.
Is it possible to join these two
In a nutshell ..there are two different heirarchies and I want to join both...so taht on clicking 2007 i will get Q1,Q2...and clicking on Q1...will get Jan ,Feb ...
Pls. help.

Hi nameless,
Ok well if your Gen2,Year really only contains the 4 members Q1 through Q4 then you can do the following (note that this is a simple model and will not reflect yours 100%):
Create a new logical table. E.g. "Total Time". Within that, create 4 new logical columns: Year, Quarter, Month and Day. Map them as follows:
Year = "Sample"."Sample".."Gen2,Years"
Quarter = "Sample"."Sample".."Gen2,Year"
Month = "Sample"."Sample".."Gen3,Year"
Day = "Sample"."Sample".."Gen4,Year"
Then create a new dimension, likewise called "Total Time". Create the 4 levels (grand total not necessarily needed, but you can use Gen1,Years for that of you'd like). Assign each logical column to its respective level Gen2,Years = Year = Year level; Gen4,Year = Day = Day level etc.
Set logical level keys and you're done. Expose in the presentation table and test. I haven't run through all combinations, but the concept works fine with an Essbase source since the MDX will get the numbers from the respective levels / data intersection points.
Cheers,
C.

  • Account Dimension not showing all members in the cube in Analysis Services

    Hi,
             In SAP - BPC 5.1 after processing account dimension all the members are created under account dimension in analysis services but the same cannot be found in the data cube. Hence the reports generated through SAP - BPC is not showing all the members.
             The issue looks very strange as we can see the members getting created but the same is not getting populated in the cubes. I am not able to visualize what exacly the issue is? Is it with the application or with the analysis services?
    Thanks
    Sharath

    Your sixth sense is correct, there is definitely support in MSAS and BPC 5.1 for multiple hierarchies in the account dimension.
    I'm also referring to parentH1 and parentH2, but perhaps we're still speaking of different things.
    In the past, I faced a very similar problem as you, and the root cause was because I had one member, let's call it FancyParent, which, in H1, had children Child1 and Child2.
    But in H2 it had children Child1, Child2 and Child3. I forget now if that was how I wanted the setup to be, or if it was a mistake on my part, but either way, MSAS doesn't allow this. The admin consol didn't complain when processing the dimension -- this was in Outlooksoft 5.0; perhaps validation has improved now.
    But the cube was completely unworkable. Certain things were calculating correctly, but everything in the account dimension in the area around FancyParent (above and below it, in both hierarchies) was quite unpredictable.
    By disabling first one, and then the other, of the two hierarchies, and disabling blocks of accounts, I was eventually able to pinpoint the problem. But it took days to figure out what was the problem. (The account dimension had 2500 members and 4 hierarchies, and it was not a pretty sight.)
    A parent must have the same definition of children in all hierarchies. It can't, as another example, have children in H1, and be a base member in H2. Each member can have different parents in the two hierarchies, but must always have the same children in both.
    To work around this problem, I had to create two separate accounts NetIncomeH1 and NetIncomeH2 (and PretaxIncomeH1, PretaxIncomH2, etc. all the way down to the point where they branched off), to get the two separate aggregations of the P&L in the two hierarchies. Once I did that, it made sense to me why, but I also swore off on frivolous extra hierarchies ever again.

  • Problem in joining the 10G AWM Cubes

    Hi,
    I have created a Cube in 10G AWM. But while mapping the Cube I am not being able to find the row to drag and put joining condition between the Cube and the Dim. Also I am finding that the 'Maintain Cube' option is disabled.
    I have worked in 11G AWM but I have not faced this issue and was able to bui;d the Cubes there.
    The version I am using arre:
    AWM --> 10.2.0.3.0A
    Oracle --> Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit
    Can you please help me in this regard.
    Thanks in advance,
    ChD

    Hi David,
    Thanks for the reply. But frankly speaking I did not understand the things that I need to do. :(:(. Can you please tell me based on the requiremnt of mine how I can map the fact in the AWM 10G and where/how tell the Cube that 'these' are my Fact --> Dim mappings.
    I found out that once I built a Cube in 10G AWM, if I needed to do away with any Dim I was not able to do so. The select and add Dim Pane in the Cube remains disabled. I need to again create a cube and experiment with lesser Dim tables. Is it the way 10G AWNM is destined to behave?
    Also, again referring to my requirements, where I have a Fact table, a Dim table and a Dim Hierarchy table, how can I map my Dim with the Dim hierarchy in 10G AWM? Suppose my higher level roll up should happen based on the Dim Hierarchy table. So I plan to join Fact --> Dim and then Dim --> Hierarchy (for rolling up measures on top Hiererachy). How am I going to do that in the 10G AWM?
    I just now faced the follwoing error for the INS_PLAN_DH (Insurance Plan Hierarchy table):
    ***Error Occured: Error Validating Measure Mappings. Measure key expression for INS_PLAN_DH.DIMENSION dimension, mapping group MARKET_SALES_CUBE.MAPGROUP2.CUBEMAPGROUP does not exist.
    Did not understand the menaing of it.
    Please advice.
    Thanks...

    In the cube design..where i can give the desciption to the item code,SKU CODE,PROD LINE CODE..?

    I think this file is dimension file for building the dimension product.
    Yoy have to map like this.
    Item Code SKU Code Prod Line Code - Corresponding Level/Gen, Product

    Hi,
    By default Coherence uses a multicast protocol to discover other nodes when forming a cluster. Since you are having difficulties in establishing a cluster via multicast, Can you please perform a multicast test and see if multicast is configured properly.
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH32UG/Multicast+Test
    Hope you are using same configuration files across the cluster members and all members of the cluster must specify the same cluster name in order to be allowed to join the cluster.
    <cluster-name system-property="tangosol.coherence.cluster";>xxx</cluster-name>
    I would suggest, try using the unicast-listener with the well-known-addresses instead of muticast-listener.
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH32UG/well-known-addresses
    Add similar entries like below in your tangosol override xml..
    <well-known-addresses>
    <socket-address id="1">
    <address> 172.23.34.91<;/address>
    <port>8190</port>
    </socket-address>
    <socket-address id="2">
    <address> 172.23.34.74<;/address>
    <port> 8090</port>
    </socket-address>
    </well-known-addresses>
    This list is used by all other nodes to find their way into the cluster without the use of multicast, thus at least one well known node must be running for other nodes to be able to join.
    Hope this helps!!
    Thanks,
    Ashok.

  • No data loaded to the cube

    hello,
    I have created four dimensions, all validated, deployed and loaded successfully.
    I created a cube, and used a joiner to load the keys from the tables. It has just one measure, and I am loading it from a different table.
    I ran a query with a join condition (where clause) in Oracle SQL developer, it returns the desired result.
    So i use the same join condition, in the cube.
    the cube and the corresponding map is validated and deployed successfully. When I start the map, it inserts no, records in the corresponding table of the cube.
    Please, help me solve this problem.
    best regards
    P.S: I am using OWB 11g on SUSE 10.2

    The loading process in a cube do a join with the dimensions.
    "D_DIMENSION_X"."DIMENSION_CODE" = "INGRP1"."D_DIMENSION_CODE" )Thus, you can have no problem even if a dimension code is missing in the dimension table.
    I had the problem with the time dimension (miss the year id for instance) and it's very painful to find.
    First, you have to retrieve the SQL generated :
    Check in this article how to have the SQL (intermediate sql generation)
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dw/etl/owb/owb_mapping_debugger
    Second, Take the sql and execute it by suppressing a dimension, see if you have data in your sql
    and repeat the steps until you see the light.
    Good luck
    Nico

  • How to load data in the cube

    dear all,
    I need some help: I'm new to OWB and I'm trying to load a cube with dimensions keys data. I have successfully deployed the cube and dimensions without any problems. Now when I deploy the mapping to load the cube I cannot get any data there...
    - I have tried mapping by using dimension operator and cube operator by mapping dimension business keys with keys in the cube...and still no data...
    -I have also tried joining all the dimensions with the joint operator and joint condition with the cube as input and have the output to the cube...but still no data. I have also disable the constraints on the cube for the purpose of loading the data, but without much success. What am I doing wrong?
    Any help and guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!
    Akym

    It sounds like you are not getting any matching keys for loading into the cube.
    Do you have a time dimension created by OWB in the cube? The key used by the cube operator for an OWB time dimension is a formatted number. The time dimension keys are stored as follows;
    Day Level - YYYYMMDD
    Month Level - YYYYMM
    Week Level - YYYYWW
    Quarter - YYYYQ
    Year - YYYY
    If you have a source that has a SQL date datatype for example and want to construct the key for a cube's time dimension at the day level something like the following expression can be used to construct the time reference from a SQL date...
    to_number(to_char( time_key, 'YYYYMMDD'))
    It may not be this but just a thought.
    Cheers
    David

  • Join two cubes

    Hi all,
    I want to join two cubes, this cubes have two columns to do the join. They don't have any common dimensions. How can I do this?? I've tried it by joining them in the business model Area but it doesn't work how I want because if I only use dimensions or measures from one cube it uses both of them. And also, when I use both cubes, the first it does in the query is the join between them instead of applying the filters...
    I need help

    It looks like joins are interpreted in different manner when you join cubes. Check this link and see if its helpful..

  • Join of cubes

    Is it possible to realize join two cubes in BW?
    how?

    Hi,
    no, unfortunately this is not possible. The only thing you can do is to create a multi provider based on your two cubes and map the corresponding fields, but this is not a join, it is a union.
    regards
    Siggi
    PS: May be, you load your cubes from ods objects. If yes, you can create a infoset on the ods object and do a join. Additionally you can post the cubes data to newly created ods object and create the infoset on them.

  • Hyperion Integration server - updating the cube through AIS

    Hi All,
    we have an existing ASO cube with 12 dimensions and there is a requirement to add another dimension to the same cube. There are currently 16 drill through reports defined against the cube. I have not worked with the AIS earlier but have an overall idea . So if i want to add another dimension through AIS..What are the
    things i have to do ..starting from creating/having a dimension table for the new dimension
    what are the things i have to take care of?etc
    Thanks a lot for your time

    Ensure you have a column(s) in your dimension table that can join to the fact table. In EIS open the Model for this particular cube. On the left side find your dimension table and drag it on to the model. Answer yes when it asks if you want to add the table to the current model. Click the "Add Joins Mode" icon then click the fact table object and DRAG and let go on your dimension table. A popup should appear "Create new dimension". Change the name if you wish, then click OK. Another popup appears "Edit join info for...". Choose the columns to join on and click "Add" then "Close". Save the model. Open the EIS outline for this model and assuming you didn't already have it open you'll find your new dimension table on the left. Drag the level-0 (bottom most level) column that you're putting in this cube over to the outline name on the right and let go, or wherever you want to add the dimension and go from there.
    If the outline is using User Defined SQL then you'll be prompted "User defined data load SQLs may not be valid anymore. Do you want to delete them? Pressing No will prompt you to edit the SQLs." Choose "No". A "SQL Override" window will appear where you can type in your column name to the Select list (for a hint of what to do look at what it put in the Standard Dataload SQL in grey at the bottom & go from there). Put your new column in the same order in the Select statement that the Standard Dataload SQL has it in.
    Then it's probably good to edit each of the drillthrough reports. With the EIS outline open, from the menu choose Edit | Drill-through Reports. Expand each report and decide whether you need to specify a certain intersection level for this new dimension - meaning, at what level do you want to force the users to have to select a value before you'll let them 'see' the drillthrough report. If it doesn't matter for this new dimension then just click OLAP Intersection Levels, Add, then click on your new dimension then the right arrow to add it to the list of intersections and click Close.
    Let me know if you need additional assistance.
    Good luck,

  • What happens to the cube performance when you have too many UDAs?

    Hi,
    what's the impact on the cube performance if you have too many UDAs associated with the same level of members? Let's say 15 UDAs for each member
    If attribute is not an option, what's another way to help alleviate the data load?

    Hi,
    Adding UDAs to the outline doesn't impact the size of Essbase database.
    I've seen cubes with over 70 UDAs. And I think UDAs is the best choice to set load rules.
    But for considering of the implication of Dynamic calculations as reporting on UDAs can be slow. Define UDAs on sparse dimensions only.

  • Clinet Application without joining the cluster

    Hi All,
    is it possible for client application to access the cache within a coherence cluster. The Client application is not a part of cluster and it didnt start with and cache config files or anything else.
    The client application just uses :
    NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.getCache("VirtualCache");
    if a client application starts with a cache-config file it will also join the cluster in this case the JVM of the client app will aslo be loaded/distributed/replicated with the cache contents ?
    Please clarify my doubts.
    Regards
    Srinivas.

    The only clean way of NOT joining the cluster is to connect via Extend.
    You can join the cluster, and specify LocalStorage=False parameter, however, that is only applicable for distributed cache. Replicated cache data still exists on every node. A bigger issue in my mind, is that your node will be actively managing membership of other members in the cluster, and that can become a problem.

  • There was an error joining the Airport network with WEP or WPA

    I use a wireless adsl modem router (Philips). I can only connect via wireless to this router without encryption.
    As soon as I use WEP or WPA encryption, I get the error message "There was an error joining the Airport network".
    Thank you for any suggestion.

    Do not overlook the possibility that the router itself may be incompatible or may require a firmware update to work properly. You should configure the router to use WPA2, preferably, as this is the most compatible form of encryption with Airports.
