JPopopMenu: how to listen for ActionEvent ?

Geary II says "The only information that can be obtained from an instance of PopupMenuEvent is the source of the event".
How do you ascertain what menu item the user selected?

User hasn't selected an item. It's a popupmenu event... meaning the menu has just popped up

  • How to listen for key press when air app does not have focus

    Hi,
    I am developing a application in air and part of the functionality I need is the ability for the app to listen for when a specific key is pressed, even when the air app does not have focus.
    Is there support for this for windows or mac? If not, how might this be accomplished? ANE?

    Ok Mr. Smartass...Ok
    I'm building a browser that is always open, and when
    a user presses Ctrl+F1 (notice, just those two keys,
    I don't care what else they press...) the browser
    will open up. That way, you don't have to wait for it
    to load all the time.You have two ideas here. One is having a universal key map that always gets ctrl-f1 sent to your app. The other is a program that is constantly running so that you don't have to wait for it to open up. The former is not possible (and this is a good thing) As warneria and I have been saying, it is bad design for an app to try to force an OS to implement this kind of feature.
    If you're not going to help please don't post at all;
    it's a waste of time for both you, me, and anyone
    else who may need help on the same subject. Why wouldBelieve it or not, I am helping you.

  • How to listen for inputs without a component? For creating bots

    I mean, for example, I want to write a a program that listens for keys f12 to (for example) skip the track in a media player and f11 to skip back. Thinks like the like :P. But I want to do this without any component, becasue the program won't have the focus at all.
    If it is needed to create a dll just tell as much as you pacience affords.

    You can't do this in Java. And it will be OS specific.

  • How to listen for actionContent button click event in View

    Hello,
    Doing this:
    FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.addEventListener('actionContentClick',showOptions);
    Results in calling showOptions() as many times as the view was showed. The handler sticks and each time I enter a view in the creationComplete hander for it I add the same listener over and over again.
    How should this be done?
    1. FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication is the right object to listen to?
    2. I can remove the listener on view deactivate, but I am not sure if that will be called each time the view goes away.
    3. Can I check if an object already has a listener and which is it?
    Thank you.

    Thank you, Tom.
    I was complicating things for myself by exposing methods in the main MXML file to add and remove and listen to click events on a button placed in the actionContent, instead of declaring it in MXML for each and adding a listener to it. Views had different actionContent buttons or rather icons for them.
    In regards to hasEvenListener, can I also get the method(s) attached to that? Probably not though.

  • How to listen for cell selection changes within a JTable

    Problem: my table has 8 columns, with 4 of them containing very large text (up to 1000 chars). Solution is to set the initial size these columns so that the 1st 20 chars are visible, and if one of these columns gains focus/selection via mouse-clicking/tabbing/arrow keys, the entire text is shown in a JTextArea below the table.
    I added a ListSelectionListener to the table, but this only informs me when the row selection has changed.
    I added a FocusListener to the table, but this only informs me when the table gains/loses focus, not when it's been changed within.
    I added a TableColumnModelListener to the TableColumnModel, but this only informs me when the column selection has changed.
    I didn't bother with MouseListener as this won't handle change of selection via tabbing.
    The LSL got me half way there, and the TCML got me the other half. Any ideas on how to combine?
    Or is there something obvious that I'm missing?

    Walter Laan wrote:
    Use both and call the same method which updates the text area based on the current selected (or focused == lead selection index) cell.Yeah - that's what I figured. I just didn't know if there was a magic bullet (i.e., a single listener) out there that I was missing.
    While you are at it, also add a table model listener which calls the same method if the selected cell is updated.I'll keep that in mind, but it's not necessary in this particular case. The table cells in question will be uneditable. The text area will have supporting Edit/Save/Cancel buttons.

  • How to listen for a change in a JTextArea?

    well ..... the subject says it all :)

    The JavaDoc says it all :)
    The java.awt.TextArea could be monitored for changes by adding a TextListener for TextEvents. In the JTextComponent based components, changes are broadcasted from the model via a DocumentEvent to DocumentListeners. The DocumentEvent gives the location of the change and the kind of change if desired. The code fragment might look something like:
    DocumentListener myListener = ??;
    JTextArea myArea = ??;
    myArea.getDocument().addDocumentListener(myListener);http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/javax/swing/JTextArea.html

  • How to listen for resizing of JTable column

    Is there anyway to tell when the columns in a JTable are being resized by the user? I couldn't find any listeners or anything that will tell you when the user is dragging the column width with the mouse.
    Thanks.

    Use ColumnModelListener as shown below:-
              table.getColumnModel().addColumnModelListener(new TableColumnModelListener() {
                   public void columnAdded(TableColumnModelEvent e) {
                   public void columnMoved(TableColumnModelEvent e) {
                   public void columnRemoved(TableColumnModelEvent e) {

  • Listening for an event outside of the object...

    Hey, I spent a lot of my day trying to figure out how to
    listen for an event outside of an instantiated object of my own.
    I made my own class called
    Link. When my Link class is instantiated, a Loader object
    (var loader:Loader) is added and it loads a user-specified external
    PNG file. I want to track the Event.COMPLETE event OUTSIDE of my
    Link class, like in my FLA's Actionscript.
    So, I tried a few things without any luck, and by these you
    might get the idea of exactly what I'm trying to do:
    var link1:Link = new Link(...);
    link1.loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, handler);
    That didn't work, so I tried:
    var link1.Link = new Link(...);
    var loader = link1.getChildByName("loader") as Loader;
    loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, handler);
    ... that didn't work either. :(
    Any ideas?
    If I am taking the completely wrong approach please do let me
    know. If there's ANY way to know WHEN my loader has completed
    loading its image outside of my Link class...
    Thanks!
    ~ Andrew Merskin

    Let your Link class handle the Loader events. When
    Event.COMPLETE fires,
    just redispatch the event or dispatch a custom event.
    Example 1:
    link1.addEventListener("ALLDONELOADING", linkEventHandler);
    function linkEventHandler(event:Event)
    if(event.type == "ALLDONELOADING")
    // do something or nothing at all
    // Inside your link class you are listening for the load
    complete
    function loadCompleteHandler(event:Event)
    dispatchEvent(new Event("ALLDONELOADING")));
    Example 2:
    link1.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, linkEventHandler);
    function linkEventHandler(event:Event)
    if(event.type == Event.COMPLETE)
    // do something or nothing at all
    // Inside your link class you are listening for the load
    complete
    function loadCompleteHandler(event:Event)
    dispatchEvent(event);

  • How to configure multiple listeners to listen for the same instance.

    Hello everyone,
    I am running oracle database 11g and I want information regarding how to configure multiple listeners to listen for the same database instance. Actually I know how to configure more than one listener but the main thing that I am confused about is when we create listener.ora file, do we have to statically register the database instance with both the listeners or the instance will register itself with both the listeners.
    According to my knowledge the instance will register with the listener specified by LOCAL_LISTENER parameter and we cannot have more than one value for this parameter.
    Please only give detailed answers with example as I am tired of simple answers with details that I already know.

    Hello,
    Yes, it can make sense to have several listener for one Oracle instance. For instance you may have one listener for the applications another listener for DBA administration tasks as well as one listener dedicated to dataguard broker. It is not possible to have several listeners listening on the same IP and Port.
    By default the database try to automatically register to a listener on port 1521. To instruct the instance to register to a specifc list of listeners you can add in the init.ora the local_listener parameter with an alias definition:
    i.e
    local_listener=MY_SET_OFF_LISTENERS
    in your tnsname.ora add an entry called:
    MY_SET_OFF_LISTENERS_LOCAL= (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myhostname)(PORT=1530))
    (ADRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myhostname)(PORT=1531))
    (ADRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myhostname)(PORT=1532))
    In this sample your instance will register to three listeners listening on respectively port 1530, 1531 and 1532
    If you want your clients can be balanced over the 3 listeners

  • How do I listen for changes in a container's components?

    I have a JScrollPane that contains a JTextPane. I want any Container that can possibly contain my JScrollPane to be able to listen for changes in the JTextPane's Document.
    For example, at the moment I'm using a JTabbedPane to hold a number of my JScrollPanes and I want to alter the tab title when any associated JScrollPane-JTextPane-Document is updated.
    Any suggestions on how best to handle this?

    I would use a controller object that manages all your gui components (tabs, scrolls, documents, text panes). Your controller object can register as a listener to the appropriate component, and when it changes, update the title of a tab (or do whatever else) as appropriate.
    Never put business logic like this stuff inside the actual gui components. Create, layout, etc. all the gui components (and related components like Document) from another controller like object instead. It makes handling the various listener stuff like this much easier. Read up on MVC (model view controller) stuff for more info.
    As for the actual mechanics, you could get the document that is used in the JTextPane and register as a DocumentListener. As a document listener, you get notified of all changes that are made to that document.

  • How to stop and start MDBs to listen for JMS messages

    Hello! This might be more of an architecture question rather than a technical questing, but I post it here, in the lack of a better place...
    For several years I have been using Webster and Webster MQ to send messages back and forth to clients. The architecture for the middleware platform has been designed around the functionality of ListenerPorts. Listenerports is a Webster functionality that let you "stop" and start to listen to JMS messages for a given MDB either by admin console, or by JMX.
    The arhitecture we used was something like this :
    1.Client sends a persistent message to a queue. (order)
    2. An MDB pics up the order message, calls a SessionBean that "fronts" the IIOP back end system.
    This is quite "out of the box" architecture, but we used the Listenerports to solve a stability problem for our back end system.
    The backEnd system was quite unstable, so the EJB threw an exception (typically because of timeout or connection refused) back to the MDB.
    The Listenerport was "defined" to handle 3 errors before stopping, so the MDB resent the message twice before the listenerport automatically stopped. The nice thing about this feature was that the client could continue to send orders, and was not bothered when the back end system was down.
    When the backEnd system was up and running, we could start the listenerport and it was all back to normal state. We even had a start script that checked the state of the listenerport every 30 minute, and started it automatically if it was stopped, making the admin task of starting the MDB unnecessary..
    Now.. Why am I telling this story..
    I would like to know how this could be done using "clean" J2EE technologies..That is..Not using any technology that is not portable..
    I`m playing with glassfish at home, and it struck me that there is nothing in the J2EE spec that defines the functionality described above ? Am i missing something ?
    I Do not want to stop My application because the back end system is down? That is the only way (i know of) that i can "stop" to listen for messages..
    I can put all the messages on an error queue when the backbend system is down, but that would lead to more code just to handle the error messages. Maybe the easiest way to solve this is to "move" (programmatically) all messages from the error queue over to the "standard" queue every XX minute, but somehow that sounds "wrong"
    Can anyone give me some advice to how this problem situation should be solved ? I`m interested in the solution both from an architectural perspective and from a more technical perspective..
    Best regards
    Hans-Jacob Melby

    Breakpoints, whether normal or conditional, are just meant for debugging of your code.  I had the sense from your question that the pausing you want to do is a part of normal operation of your code.  I would NOT recommend using a breakpoint for that situation.  It would bring up the block diagram showing the breakpoint when it occurs.  A user besides the programmer would not know what to do in that case.
     Yes, both the inner and outer loops would have shift registers.
    Putting a case structure with a small while loop inside the "Pausing Case" is doable.  It just depends on what you are doing or waiting for while the program operation is "paused".

  • How to listen out for a stream of data coming from (web)server

    Hello
    I have an applet that connects to a server (same location as web server) and connects to a server on a socket. This all works fine for sending commands to this server. But the server can send data to the client at any moment in time. So how do I listen out for the activity? do I launch a separate thread that sits listening for incoming data?
    What is the way to do it?

  • How do I listen for change in the global position of a Node

    Hi there,
    I want to create a Wire/Connection node between two scene nodes. I want this Wire node to be updated when one of the nodes is moving. In the common scenario I would listen for change events in the target nodes position and update the Wire :
    targetNode1.translateXProperty().addListener(new ChangeListener<Number>() {
    public void changed(ObservableValue value, Number oldValue, Number newValue) {
    wire.setStartX(targetNode1.getTranslateX());
    wire.setStartX(targetNode1.getTranslateY());
    wire.setEndX(targetNode2.getTranslateX());
    wire.setEndY(targetNode2.getTranslateY());
    The problem is that the target nodes are children of another container nodes(that are actually moving). So listening for change events in the translate properties of the target nodes does not work(their parent nodes are actually moving)
    Is there way to listent for change in the global position of the target nodes relative to the Scene?

    It sounds very similar to a problem I posted about earlier...
    How to implement a UI similar to a UML Diagram with connections?
    I ended up making my own special bounds property, that updates when the parent's special bounds property changes.
    I also had to listen to the parentProperty change event to add/remove my listener on the parent node.
    All in all, a pain in the butt. There should be an easier way.
    The shortcoming of the solution is that all the nodes in the hierarchy must have my special bounds property implemented (ie. they're all classes under my codebase such that I can implement it), which for the moment is true... I'd like a cleaner solution however.

  • How to create a listener for an Object.

    Can someone help me with creating a listener for an Object?
    What is the easiest way?
    For example... if I have the following class.... how could I set up a listener to know if "attribute1" value has changed?
    class MyObject {
    private int attribute1;
    private int attribute2;
    // Set the attribute
    public void setAttribute1(int num) {
    attribute1 = num;

    This can be done but depends on your situation. give me some more details about the program.
    In the worst scenario, u can set up a thread watching this variable to check for its previous value. if the value is different, u can get an alert.
