JRE 1.4.2_01 dies in Windows XP
We have several developers who recently upgraded to the JRE for 1.4.2_01 on Windows XP. I for instance upgraded yesterday from 1.4.0. For some reason, it all the sudden has started crashing the moment it tries to load an applet. It goes down and takes the browser with it with no warning and no error message (and Dr. Watson doesn't catch anything either). This affects both IE 6 and Netscape 7.1, and probably any other browser too (but that's all I have installed).
Has anyone else seen something like this? Maybe know a workaround or maybe the existence of some error logs I don't know about?
As a side note, if you reboot it clears up temporarily but will only allow one or two applet loads before it goes down. I did not see anything like this running 1.4.2 on other machines. Just once we upgraded to 1.4.2_01.
Thanks!

Problem Uninstalling JRE 1.4.2_01
Hi, i am having problems silently uninstalling JRE 1.4.2_01 on windows XP wonder if anyone can help, When running the silent uninstall command....... j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe /s /v "/qn REBOOT=Suppress" /x......nothing happens.
I am trying to update the JRE from Build_05 to Build_28 of 1.4.2_01 for development reasons. I have tried overwritting the current installation using silent install and pointing the INSTALLLDIR to the existing one but get error " Incorrent Command line parameters" when running the silent install. Works fine when doing the install normally via the wizard but not using the silent commands.
Any help is much appreciated.
AriTwo things: Is there a document detailing manual removal of this JRE (and indeed others); you mention different 'builds' of the same JRE, this is the first time I have read that there are sub-versions/releases of a JRE. Where do I find out the available builds of this JRE and others and how they differ?

JRE v 1.6.0_21 on Windows XP and Windows Vista
I run an applet on JRE v 1.6.0_21 on Windows XP and Windows Vista, and it behaves differently on these 2 platforms. There is a servlet that sends date information using java.sql.date and the applet that receives these dates casts the date into java.util.date. (That can be corrected, and I just want to know if there are others who might be experiencing this behavior.)
On Windows XP with Internet Explorer v7, the date is displayed correctly by the applet. With Vista and Internet Explorer v7, the date displayed is one day before. My theory is in Vista the date with 0000 timestamp is considered the day before, while in XP a date with timestamp (all zeroes) is displayed as that date. When does a new day start - is it exactly at break of midnight, or a split second later? Seems like one would get 2 different answers from Vista and XP. Any thoughts? Thanks.Appears to me like this issue is related to:

My Windows XP box shows timezone = America/New_York while my Windows Vista shows timezone = GMT-05:00 with 'Automatically adjust clock for DST' already checked. Should be the same right? Possible that JRE is not reading the adjust clock for DST setting?
On Vista, when I set -Duser.timezone=America/New_York for the JRE settings in Java Control Panel, the applet behaves as I expected. Thanks. -
JRE 6 not using cache in Windows 7 results in poor performance
I am using a commercial software package that uses Java. Within the company all XP users work fine and performance is great, however for all Windows 7 users the performance is appalling. After weeks of testing with the software vendor it appears that under Windows 7 JRE is not using any of the cashed images and objects and is going off to the server all the time. This can be seen in the Java trace files. This behaviour is not seen on the XP clients. The windows 7 PCs are taking about 4 times as long as the XP clients to load a page. The Java control panel program shows that the items have been succesfully cached locally on the windows 7 PCs.
We have tried...
deleting the cache
lowering windows 7 security
lowering ie9 security
even removing fonts
without any success. The vendor has now almost given up blaming a 'network policy' within our company infrastructure. Whilst I realise Windows 7 security is a lot more advanced that XP I am not aware of any network, firewall or group policies that say to Java, "Hey don't use your cache". I may be wrong.
Does anyone have any further suggestions of where to look?Hi.
Not long ago we faced with a similar problem. Our client work with oracle internet application server. Oracle iAS use jre. All was well until users work on WinXP or in Win7 thru local network, but when try to work Win7 thru VPN application began work very slow.
We try many different way, but helped us only switch off TCP AutoTuning on Win7. After that users on Win7 began work as fast as on WinXP.
How to Disable TCP AutoTuning and Receive Side Scaling
Open an elevated command prompt with administrator rights.
Type the following commands and press Enter (the second command is optional):
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
Try this way. May be it help you too.

Application Engine Server process dies on Windows
Hi experts,
We developed an AE in which employee data will be calculated and inserted to HR core table via CI. We started multiple instance of the AE by people code, most of them will success but others run into error and reported "Process XXX is marked 'Initiated' or 'Processing' but no longer running.". On further research we found the windows process (PSAESRV) died and a folder named PSAESRV.PID was generated in process scheduler log directory. The following can be found in "process_state.txt" in the directory:
Exception: (0xC0000005) EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION - Memory access violation
(The memory at 0x00133000 could not be read)
Exception location:
Fault address=0x2500b836 0001:0000a836 C:\PT850\BIN\SERVER\WINX86\pscmnutils.dll
Other information:
Tools: 8.50
Server:Windows XP SP3.
Database:Oracle 10.2.0.1.0.
Could any one figure out what's the problem?
Edited by: user9546195 on 2010-12-7 下午10:32Yes it's running on Windows XP professional. We run the test both in Linux Server and Windows XP. So far no error has been found in Linux Server. We began performance test and found the error on Windows XP on April,2010. Then we refine the code and test again these days, and the error happens again with the same error message.
*Not sure whether the Peopletools is up-to-date or not, the version of modules can be found in the "process_state.txt" file of the dead process. Attached below is the file.
Thanks!

JRE 1.5.0_02 Hang on Windows XP
Ok heres the story.
Fresh install of windows xp professional with service pack 2. Run windows update, everything gets updated. Attempt to install Java VM, installed using jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe from www.java.com, also tried downloading from java.sun.com. Installation goes fine, until its finishing setup, hangs when the progress bar gets to 99%. a process called javaw.exe, one of the runtime files i presume, is using 0% cpu time, but has hung. Won't even go away if i kill the process, just doesn't do anything. Setup hangs due to this process being hanged, so have to reboot PC.
My question, whats wrong here? BTW i have tried redownloading and reinstalling windows about 10 times so far. It happens EVERY TIME. I have also tried installing JRE 1.4.2_07 and using that to UPDATE the JRE. Same thing happens.Ok heres the story.

Firefox 32-bit w/ JRE 32-bit on 64-bit Windows OS (Vista, Windows 7)
What do people think about this?
[http://warnerchad.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-java-in-firefox-3-on-vista-64.html|http://warnerchad.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-java-in-firefox-3-on-vista-64.html]
It describes a solution for making the Firefox plugin work for Java 32-bit & Firefox 32-bit, running on a 64-bit Windows OS. -- I can confirm that this is an issue, and can confirm that this is the fix.
I suspect it's because of the new convention for 32-bit apps (C:\Program Files (x86)\...), and the JRE doesn't recognize that Firefox is there, because it assumes it should be in C:\Program Files\... ?
Should a bug report be submitted?
Edited by: fermulator on Jun 1, 2009 8:01 AMHow do you get the 32bit client to communicate with the 64bit Oracle instance on the same windows box? After installing the 64 bit db and client (on a developer desktop), I installed the 32 bit client to a different oracle home. I could not get it to connect to the listener - what am I doing wrong? Should I reinstall it to the 64bit home - I'm afraid that'll kill everything though.
Also, I think I'm correct in this, but not sure: any 32bit app must use the 32bit client on the 64bit box. MS Access needs 32bit ODBC, which needs 32bit client, etc.
Thx,

Batch upgrading client JRE's over Windows network
Does anyone know of a tool or method that can be used to force/exert upgrade of windows client JREs on all machines within a domain/network? This prob won't be anything to do with java, and rather it will most likely be a admin tool used to rollout any application over windows networks. Just thought someone might have used it for java.
You can use the login script, SMS, Zenworks, Footprint, Altiris, Orbiter, AD policies, Managesoft, or any other systems management software. Some of these are better suited for large organizations but others work well within a smaller group. Talk to your systems/network administrator? They can't all be rabid.
The key is to create a completely silent installation. Here's the install string for jre 1.4.2_01. If you paste this into a command prompt (ensuring that your either use the full path to the exe file, or make that directory active), it will install silently with all defaults. Using one of the tools above, you can update every machine in your organization.
j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe /S /V"/qr /l %LOGDIR%\J2RE-1.4.2_01\JRE142.log REBOOT=SUPPRESS ALLUSERS=1"
Make sure the %logdir% is created prior to running this string.
Hope this helps,

How can I install Java JRE 1.42 on Phoenix on Window 2000?
In the Java Plugin-in control panel, it only has Mozilla 1.1 and if I click it, it said I don't have mozilla 1.1 install.
Thank for your help. You have to add the following (dummy) key to your registry:

JDK and JRE comptability for Windows server 2008
Hi,
Could someone please let me know what are the JDK and JRE versions that are comptabile with Windows server 2008 ?
Thanks.Hi,
For security purposes, the IP address for the Windows Update web site constantly changes and it is not a fixed address. Also, there is no official publication of the
IP addresses. We normally advise against defining IP addresses on the firewall for this purpose. Instead, we suggest either allowing all outbound connections to http & https ports or defining the DNS addresses as permitted destinations for traffic via
the firewall.
For up-to-date information about the IP's being used by Windows Update, use the DNS system, as this is the only reliable up to date source of information. If you use
DNS, make sure the following destination hosts are specified:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.update.microsoft.com
https://*.update.microsoft.com
http://*.windowsupdate.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com
http://download.microsoft.com
http://*.download.windowsupdate.com
http://wustat.windows.com
http://ntservicepack.microsoft.com
http://stats.microsoft.com
https://stats.microsoft.com
Thanks for your understanding.
Best Regards,
Nina

JCheckBox not displaying on Windows 2000
The JCheckBox is fully blackened when I start my GUI based application on Windows 2000
but it works fine on Windows XP ie displays fine.
jCheckBox = new javax.swing.JCheckBox();
jCheckBox.setName("StandardLineJCheckBox");
jCheckBox.setSelected(true);
jCheckBox.setText("Standard Lines");
Also this happens when I have JRE 1.4.2_05 . With JRE 1.3 both Windows 2000 and XP display
checkboxes fine. Anyy idea for a fix is appreciated.....
I tried jCheckBox.setBackground(java.awt.Color.white);
but that doesn't help too.i also experienced that too last time, when i try to use jre later than l.4.2_01 all these screen blank thing happened, so finally i chose to stick with old jre 1.4.2_01 and it work fine until now. i think the latest 1.5.0 should work fine

Redirection of deployment.user.cachedir to Windows Temp-directory
Hello,
I have a problem with the configuration of the cache-directory on a Windows Terminal-Server.
On a Windows Terminal-Server each registered user gets a Windows temp-directory, which can be seen in variable %TEMP% and looks like "D:\temp\1" or "D:\temp\2" and so on.
Now I want to redirect the cache-directory, set in file deployment.properties, property deployment.user.cachedir, to that temp-directory for the user.
How can I configure JavaWS correctly ?
Please help !! Thanks in advance
AchimThank you for your response. I am using jdk1.3.1 and
jre 1.4.2_01 which I just downloaded the other day.
The properties did indeed list out in the console, but
I will check a previous jre to see if they are there
as well. I agree that if the property is available,
then it should return the value.5. What system properties can be read by applets, and how?
In both Java-enabled browsers and the appletviewer, applets can read these system properties by invoking System.getProperty(String key):
key meaning
java.version Java version number
java.vendor Java vendor-specific string
java.vendor.url Java vendor URL
java.class.version Java class version number
os.name Operating system name
os.arch Operating system architecture
os.version Operating system version
file.separator File separator (eg, "/")
path.separator Path separator (eg, ":")
line.separator Line separator
Applets are prevented from reading these system properties:
key meaning
java.home Java installation directory
java.class.path Java classpath
user.name User account name
user.home User home directory
user.dir User's current working directory
To read a system property from within an applet, simply invoke System.getProperty(key) on the property you are interested in.

Error in installing Oracle client 11g on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) XenApp 6
I am trying to install "win64_11gR2_client.zip" Oracle 11g Client 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 that has been clamped and restricted by our security department. Details of the clamp:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885409
The Windows 2008 R2 server is running on CITRIX XenApp 6.
When we try to install the client on a normal version of Windows 2008 R2 without the Clamp, the installation follows through and successfully. However, when we try to install the 11g Client on the Clamped Windows 2008 R2, we get the error below:
[INS-08802] Unable to instantiate the View class referred by View ID 'SummaryUI'
This indicates the primary issue is with the clamp. My issue now is knowing what exactly is causing the error. what restrictions should I enable from the clamp in order to get the installation working?
Here is the error log:

Access Violation when using java in windows terminal session
Hi,
we have 2 ms Windows Terminal Servers with Windows 2k3 Enterprise x64 (Intel). I installed Sun JRE version 6 update 5 for windows 64 bit. Everything is working properly when i am using the terminal server as priviledged user (i.e. domain administrator). But as restricted user the browser crashes instantly if I am trying to view a java applet in any browser. Java creates an error log on my desktop which I feel free to post here:
# An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x7d8e6189, pid=9392, tid=5968
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (10.0-b19 mixed mode, sharing windows-x86)
# Problematic frame:

# If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
# The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code.
# See problematic frame for where to report the bug.

Does anyone have a clue what is the cause of this error? For the first time I thought that there is a problem with the 64 bit environment, but if this would be the case the applets should not be working as administrator too. As non priviledged user the error occures on ANY java applet so I think there must be a general problem.
Regards,
SebastianI decided that even if I found the update, another could easily break it. I instead downloaded and installed the Early Access JRE ( 1.6.0_10-ea ) located at https://jdk6.dev.java.net/6uNea.html. It resolved the problem, and all other applications have tested okay with it. I figured I am at risk either way, so I might as well move forward knowing it will become more stable, than step back and create security holes in the OS.
