OS X Lion does not provide a Java runtime by default. If you open "Applications -> Utilities -> Java Preferences" or if you launch an application that requires Java (such as Adobe Photoshop) and Java is not installed, OS X Lion will prompt you to install Java.
You can download Java for OS X Lion from http://support.apple.com/downloads#java_for_os_x_lion
Or here, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90908.html

  • Oracle 8.1.6 jre problem on Linux Mandrake 7.2

    I tried to install Oracle 8.1.6 on a Linux Mandrake 7.2 distribution using bash (sh is a link to bash) as shell and glibc 2.1.xx (this is the last Mandrake distribution)
    runInstaller script died complaining about command not found. Running the runInstaller bin in install/linux folder complains about not finding jre 1.1.8. I found jre in the stage subfolder and tried to run it manually but i fails (maybe java classPath). I tried even installing jre 1.2.2. the same failure.
    I tried also with ksc & csh: nothing.
    Any idea??
    Thank you.

    You need unset JAVA_HOME, for example
    $ JAVA_HOME=''; export JAVA_HOME

  • JRE problem in Linux

    I got this error:-
    $/jre/bin/java -Xmx32M -version
    Error occurred during initialization of VM
    java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
    Any suggestion to resolve this error?

    There are some crazy things, I can't explain...
    1) Here is my [sample project|http://vlkv.storm-soft.kiev.ua/_mywiki/images/6/6f/JavaApplication1.tar.gz]. I've created it with NetBeans 6.5 and jdk 1.6.0_11.
    2) there are directories dist_windows, dist_linux with jars, created under Windows and Linux (same version JDK everywhere). You may compare both JavaApplication1.jar files with some diff tool (such as WinMerge) and you can see that these jars are slightly different. WHY?
    3) Run my sample
    java -jar JavaApplication1.jarpress the button and scroll up and down JTable. Under Windows everything is ok. But under Linux I have the subj bug with BOTH dist_windows/JavaApplication1.jar and dist_linux/JavaApplication1.jar !!!
    4) Start NetBeans 6.5 and open the project. Run the project from inside NetBeans on Linux. Then I see that my java program runs perfectly, without any bugs!!!
    This command
    ps fu -C javaproduces this output:
    vlkv 8778 1.0 2.8 217084 22408 ? Sl 14:01 0:00 \_ /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_11/bin/java -classpath /home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/build/classes:/home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/src NewJFrame
    But if I run NewJFrame without NetBeans like this (copy/paste command):
    /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_11/bin/java -classpath /home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/build/classes:/home/vlkv/NetBeansProjects/JavaApplication1/src NewJFrame
    This bug returns!!! WHY UNDER NETBEANS IT'S OKAY?
    Where are the java experts to help us, please?
    PS: I've found a topic about this problem, unfortunately not answered, here .

  • JRE problem under Firefox 2.0

    I'm using WinXP Professional SP2 and I installed JRE yesterday (Version 6 Update 13).
    Testing the environment in browser ( http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1 ) yields following results:
    IE 6.0 - works fine
    FF 3.0 - works fine
    FF 2.0 (2.0.0.20 specifically) - java console pops-up stating "ERROR: unexpectedly couldn't get the codebase".
    I also noticed, that by running Firefox 2.0 as Administrator the stated problem doesn't occur and JRE works fine then as well. Thus I suppose it is just a problem of configuration. Can anybody help me how to fix this issue?

    Hi Oliver,
    I can't tell what the SP was where the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, the fix is within JavaScript and not within ABAP coding. You could fix it the following way though:
    If you happen to have a test system with SP10 installed (according to service marketplace SP11 seems to be scheduled for mid-March), replace your version of /sap/public/bc/ur/nw5/js/popup_*.js with the ones of the next SP inside of the mime repository (please make backups beforehand g). Probably, this will fix the problem as the files as backwards compatible.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • Download Java JRE problem

    This is what I receive from a webpage:
    Important Notice
    You are required to install/enable Java JRE for processing PPS online payment.
    Please press "Download Java JRE" button to install/enable Java JRE
    Please press "Reload" button after installed the Java JRE successfully.
    Then I went to sun's webpage and it told me to download it by referring to Mac's software update. I tried but then there was no such update found. I tried reloading the webpage, opened it again with Chrome, firefox, manually clicking open the Jar Launcher and Java Web Start, all couldnt work. I need to enter that website to do some payment. Could anyone please help? Thank you.

    I ran the software update process already and there was nothing about java for me to update. And that webpage is still asking me for a JAVA JRE installed. Would it be that Safari could not recognise the java in my os?

    I want to update jre version..main thing is that...am using another application(android) which using 1.6.. version...
    which oracle enforcing android to make use 1.4.2 version...which making android not work..so how can i resolve this??
    Edited by: newbie on Apr 20, 2012 10:37 AM

    Hi,
    >>should i remove these folders or only the files in folders?
    You want remove all Oracle Clients and any Oracle Software on your machine right ?
    Then, remove HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE key, and perform an Oracle 9i Client installation.
    >>Secondly 9i client installation i can get OEM?,
    The Oracle 9i client has the OEM but if you want connect to Oracle 10g from it, then you just get connect using the SYS user.
    Cheers

  • JRE Problems When Installed In A CJK Path

    Hey all,
    I'm getting some strange behavior when I try to place my JRE in a path with japanese characters on Windows XP. I'm just trying to run java.exe -version, and when I do so in a normal path I get this:
    C:\Program Files\Java>jre1.5.0_10\bin\java.exe -version
    java version "1.5.0_10"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_10-b03)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_10-b03, mixed mode)
    When I do the same thing after renaming the parent directory to include japanese characters, I get this:
    C:\Program Files\Java>???????\jre1.5.0_10\bin\java.exe -version
    Registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion'
    has value '1.6', but '1.5' is required.
    Error: could not find java.dll
    Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.
    Now...the error message is correct, in that '1.6' is indeed the setting in that registry key, and if I change it to 1.5 then it works as expected, but why would this error occur only when the JRE is in a japanese path? Has anyone else seen this behavior?
    - Chris

    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
    Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

    Yeah.. the periods are Key..
    The application "jre" went away with Java 1.1 me thinks..
    There is only "java" now.
    also the flag is now -cp not -classpath although I think they support both for backwards compatibility.
    If you are using 1.1 then it does matter.. -cp works with one and -classpath works with the other.

  • Openjdk vs jre problems

    Hello, so im trying to run two java programs, IPlist and a game, Revenge of the Titans. When I install Sun's java (jre), i can use IPlist just fine. It opens perfectly and works just as it should. However, Revenge of the Titans only works when I have openjdk installed. why is this? Is there any way i can have both applications running under one java? And to make things worse, Arch wont let me have both javas installed and will remove one java when I install the other. Any help?

    There's nothing wrong with your Java install. Revenge of the Titans uses LWJGL, a library that provides bindings to OpenGL functions. A behaviour that LWJGL required to work properly on Linux was removed in the update to Java 7. This issue is covered on a thread on the LWJGL forums:
    http://lwjgl.org/forum/index.php?topic=4085.0
    It has now been reported to be fixed with a recent nightly build of LWJGL. You may wish to contact the game developer and let them know of this incompatibility, so they can start shipping a newer version of the library with the game, or include the code in the linked forum post to work around the issue until LWJGL is updated with a new stable release.
    Theoretically, it should also be possible to replace the bundled LWJGL jars and .so's yourself, though I haven't tried this myself.

    I got it on Minecraft (Minecraft and some support apps like the above are the only reason I use java) but I fixed that by geting it from the AUR instead, how would I fix this? I've tried reinstalling (And redownloading), I'm on 64bit.

    You can't launch a jar file directly. As per the man page, you need to use the -jar flag to java.

  • JRE Detected---Version Collision problem!!--plz help..it's urgent

    Hello ,
    I am working on developing a upload component in applets that would be used to
    Let the user browse thru his/her local file system, select it and then upload that file
    to a Specific location on the server, during this file transfer operation it also
    Shows the bytes remaining and a progress bar with percentage.
    I have developed it already and my purpose is to make it available as a cross-
    Platform independent component that can simply be merged/used with just about
    any application developed in any language/or on any platform and so I developed
    it in java using applets, bcauz it has to run and be accessible via a browser.
    Now, the component is working fine but theres a problem to which I have not
    Found a complete and stable solution.
    The problem is with the JRE(Java Runtime Environment), that if the html page that
    Contains my applet does find a JRE already installed on someones browser but
    With a different version to that of which I have used for example(1.4.2_07-b05) it
    Gives an error saying jre detected-version collision and I understand fully by
    Looking up on net as to what this error means, but how do I remove this problem
    i.e. I simply want that (since I am already using the OBJECT tag in my html file)
    when my html page containing loads up in any ones browser then even if that
    browser doesnt contains a JRE in it, it should(my applet)should run, as I guess
    my browser only had a default MSJVM earlier and had no JRE for instance, still
    any site that I opened on net which contained applets , never gave me any such
    kind of error.?
    One temporary solution that I did, (although its not what I would like to do as it is
    not user friendly at all) is that in my OBJECT tag I had used a codebase attribute
    which contains the path of my jres exe file like this:
    I am giving here the complete code for my html file:
    <html>
    <OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" name="Helper" width="900" height="200"
    codebase="http://10.11.13.63:8090/j2re-1_4_2_07-windows-i586-p.exe">
    <PARAM name="java_code" value="FileChooserDemo.class">
    <PARAM name="java_archive" value="filechooser.jar">
    <PARAM name="type" value="application/x-java-applet;version=1.4">
    <PARAM name="progressbar" value="true">
    <PARAM name="boxmessage" value="Please...wait..while..the..applet..starts..up">
    <COMMENT>
    <NOEMBED>
    </NOEMBED>
    </COMMENT>
    </OBJECT>
    </html>
    further I also have to take care that if the above problem occurs i.e.(JRE detected-version collsion) then I got to tell the user to first go into his/her control panel and then
    remove the JREs exe file from add/remove programs and then come back to his/her browser to get the JREs exe file downloaded automatically from the location of intranet
    (my web server path) and run itself and install it on his/her browser bcauz of the tag that
    I used above.
    But all this is not at all a user friendly solution and I would not want any user to go thru the hassle of all this.
    Can there be any way to let my applet run on any browser without the JRE problem ,
    Plz suggest as I have now fully developed my applet upload component after a months
    hard work , but is not able to now finally integrate it with our email server application that we have in our office, just bcauz of this problem..
    Thanks in anticipation
    Regards
    Sd76

    I don't know what version collition means but what jdk version you used to compile your
    applet?
    clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93 is dynamic versioning classid and
    allowes IE to run your applet with any installed jre without trying to install a newer one.
    Problem here is when you compiled with 1.5 and try to run it with an older version there
    might be some problems.
    Try to compile it with -source and -target option so your applet is compatible with 1.3
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/versions.html
    Another thing is that your platform independent file uploader will only run in active x
    enabled browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer and not with mozilla(see link above) .

  • Problems and solutions for 9i DB R2 install on Redhat Linux AS 2.1

    Installing 9iDB R2 9.2.0.1.0 on Redhat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 (aka Redhat Enterprise Linux (AS))
    and applying patchset 2 (9.2.0.3.0)
    This is a certified platform but I hit many problems getting the install to work. Here are the problems I hit and how I solved them.
    Note: This is not intended to be a install for dummies but just an account of all my problems and how I overcame them. I spent 10 hours on this certified install (mostly looking for solutions to the problems I was having)
    I had a Intel Pentium 3 with 512 Meg RAM. (test machine)
    1. Install Redhat Linux
    2. Install Sun JDK 1.3.1 (this is not actually required for this install. I installed it as I was planning to install 9iAS after this)
    3. Install binutils-2.11.90.0.8-13 (also not required. I installed it for 9iAS)
    All other components were ok on my Redhat Linux install (i.e. kernel version, glibc)
    4. Create oracle user with dba group
    5. Create oracle home and oracle base directories. Ensure these are owned by oracle with rwx
    6. Set kernel parameters and make sure that they are initialized every startup:
    I managed to locate this script in the Redhat document called
    "Deploying Oracle9iTM on Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS"
    create a file called oracle.sh in /etc and give it execute permissions
    oracle.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    # configures kernel and system parameters for Oracle9i R2
    # File handles
    echo 65536 > /proc/sys/fs/file-max
    ulimit -n 65536

    # The default SHMMAX value is too low and likely to cause a failure during
    # database creation. SHMMAX should be equal to half of your system's physical

    8. Install oracle DB
    This took me quite a few attempts.
    The first Install I did I received the error jre was not found. This issue seemed to be relating to the fact I was not installing on a Pentium 4. Oracle was looking for the jre in oracle.swd.jre/bin/i686 (and .../lib/i686) when some of the files were placed in i386 and java was looking in i386. This created a real mess. I had encountered a similar problem on a previous install on a different platform. I found articles of people that tried to just link the directories with symbolic links but this never worked. I tried my own version but also failed.
    The solution that worked for me was to de-install, remove all the oracle directories created by the install (this part I had always done) AND also delete the file /etc/oraInstl.loc. This makes the Installer truly believe this is the first time Oracle has been installed on this box. My jre problem disappeared after that. (I don't know why it just didn't work in the first place...)
    The next error I received was an ORA-03113 when creating the database (in the dbca). (It was actually at this point that I found the document from redhat as mentioned in my set 6 above) I also noticed that when running the install of the database, the default was for Oracle's SGA to use 70% of the available memory on my machine (I have 512M so that's 360M). Oracle instructed me to set shmmax to around 240M. This may be why the database creation failed as I thought the shmmax parameter needed to be larger that SGA. Anyway, I reduce the SGA to 50% and it worked.
    This error may also have been caused by the kernel parameters not being set properly after a reboot so if you implementing stop 6 above. You may never get this problem, hopefully.
    8. Install the universal Installer 2.2.0.18.0 (a prerequisite for installing the patchset 2)
    You will need this to install the patchset 2. You can get it from metalink by searching for the bug number in the patch area. Search for bug/patch number 2878462 in patches. (37Meg for linux intel)
    (Did you know that when oracle refer to a bug number, you should treat this as a patch number? General the bugs are not available for public viewing but oracle create a patch of the same number as a placeholder. So don't search for the bug in the site search or by doc id, go straight to the "patches" area and enter the bug number as a patch number, you'll have more success. - I only found that out today after struggling with metalink for the last 4 years)
    9. Install the patchset 2
    I downloaded patchset 2 (which will bring my DB version to 9.2.0.3.0) (220Meg). There is a special symbolic link command you'll need so make sure you remember to do this.
    i.e.
    $ cd $ORACLE_BASE/oui/bin/link
    $ ln -s libclntsh.so.9.0 libclntsh.so
    10. Migrate your database
    I could not get this to work. The docs says I need at least 150M shared_pool_size and 150M Java_pool_size before running the startup migrate. As I only have 512Meg RAM (and shmmax set to 230M) I did hold much hope that this would work. I started my DB without the migrate option just to see if it would actually open with 300M in my pools. It did, so I shut it down and restarted with the migrate option. After 5 minutes of heavy processing (I still have an empty database) my server appeared to hang. I decided to restart the machine and just re-create my DB with the new patchset already applied. I delete my $ORACLE_BASE/oradata/<sid> directory and remove the entry from /etc/oratab and re-created my DB. This worked fine :)
    I hope this document helps you for your install. Please drop me line if it does help and I'll endevour to write more documents like this one.
    Please drop me a quick line at [email protected] even just to say "thanks".
    I will include a few keywords here to help the searches find this document. (mainly the keywords I searched on and failed to find a doc like this one)
    ORA-03113 ORA-3113 03113 3113 jre was not found jre not found i686 i386 i586 9iDB R2 9.2.0.1.0 9.2.0.3.0 Redhat Advanced Server 2.1 AS Enterprise Linux (AS) RH install error installation errors oui dbca problem issue
    Good luck,
    Tim Daniell.

    The trick that worked for me was on a 2nd attempt. I installed once, let it fail with "jre was not found", de-install through the installer, delete all directories and files under $ORACLE_BASE (including $ORACLE_HOME), and also delete /etc/oraInst.loc.
    I don't know why it fixes itself with this. Oracle say this is an unresolved bug 2726268 that lies in the installer. This is still unresolved by Oracle (as at 02-June-03) therefore it is not a published bug/patch. If this doesn't work, I suggest you open an iTAR and see if Oracle has any more suggestions for you.
    Cheers,
    Tim.
