  • Jrun and weblogic

    hello there,
    we are using an a little bit complicated architecture, where Jrun is
    used as a web- and jsp-server, weblogic (4.51) for deploying our ejb´s.
    It worked quite well, but without knowing, what has changed, we got
    communication problems between jrun and weblogic: jrun is running
    correctly and the ejb´s are available for console-clients, but the
    jsp-clients for the ejb´s from jrun usually don`t work or work much too
    slowly. in weblogics logfile we find messages like this:
    Fri Jan 28 22:06:55 GMT+01:00 2000:<E> <RJVM> Ignoring message from a
    previous generation: JVMMessage from 4936233558364828391C192.168.0.11 to
    -2140207893869841879C192.168.0.11 with CMD_REQUEST, prtNum=6, ack=49,
    seqNum=51
    anybody has any idea?
    thanks moritz

    I forgot to say that this plugin lets you use apache as a front-end to the app server. You don't need to have several servers, not even have load balancing, just one apache with an application server is enough.

  • Kodo, JRun, and logging

    Hi,
    I'm trying to run my Kodo JDO application in a JRun4 J2EE server. I'm
    having a problem getting logging to work, and I've discovered what's
    happening.
    As it happens, JRun is using the commons logging facility itself, and
    initializes an older version of Log4j before my classes are even loaded.
    Thus, any log4j.properties file I specify (or even if I change the name to
    something else and specify it via the log4j.configuration system property)
    is ignored because by the time the web app is loaded, the system
    log4j.properties have already been initialized and mine are ignored.
    The solution offered on the JRun support site is to rewrite your
    log4j-enabled app to use custom logging (in a JRun-proprietary format),
    but that's obviously not an option for me here because the logging is
    internal to Kodo's classes.
    What I'm wondering is this: is there a setting I can specify something in
    my kodo.properties file or in some other location that will tell Kodo to
    instantiate its own private log4j instance instead of using the system's?
    Or is there some other way to force Kodo to ignore the existing JRun
    logging facility?
    Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Oops! The my posting didn't get put up exactly as I typed it. Instances of
    "$/servers/lib" should instead be "JRUN_HOME/servers/lib" where
    "JRUN_HOME" is the directory that JRun is installed in.

    Marc,
    Thanks for the feedback. I experimented a bit (quite a bit, actually) and
    found a configuration that works without having to implement a custom
    logging mechanism.
    First off, in order to use the version of Log4j that came with Kodo
    instead of the old version that is bundled with JRun (and embedded in one
    of JRun's own JAR files, BTW - ick!), I had to make a couple of JRun
    configuration changes.
    1. Install log4j-1.2.6.jar in $/servers/lib
    2. Install log4j.properties in $/servers/lib
    3. Create a .../WEB-INF/jrun-web.xml file with the following contents:
    <?xml version ="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE jrun-web-app SYSTEM "jrun-web.dtd">
    <jrun-web-app>
    <load-system-classes-first>false</load-system-classes-first>
    </jrun-web-app>
    This last step is the critical one - it tells JRun to put
    $/servers/lib in the CLASSPATH ahead of the JRun system jars
    (which include the old version of Log4j, etc.).
    The down-side of this configuration is that every JRun server instance
    will use the same Log4j setup, but I can live with that.
    Lastly, I tweaked the log4j.properties file to send my Kodo log entries
    into a separate file (otherwise they ended up intermingled with the
    standard JRun log entries):
    # Normal Kodo logging configuration
    log4j.rootCategory=INFO, console
    # Custom verbosity levels on a per-category basis
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.impl.jdbc.SQL=DEBUG, kodolog
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.impl.jdbc.JDBC=INFO, kodolog
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.impl.jdbc.Schema=INFO, kodolog
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.Performance=INFO, kodolog
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.MetaData=INFO, kodolog
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.Enhance=INFO, kodolog
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.Query=DEBUG, kodolog
    log4j.category.com.solarmetric.kodo.Runtime=DEBUG, kodolog
    # Set appender specific options.
    log4j.appender.kodolog=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
    log4j.appender.kodolog.File=/tmp/javatest-kodo.log
    log4j.appender.kodolog.Append=true
    log4j.appender.kodolog.MaxFileSize=10mb
    log4j.appender.kodolog.MaxBackupIndex=9
    log4j.appender.kodolog.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
    log4j.appender.kodolog.layout.ConversionPattern=%-5r %-5p [%t] %c - %m%n
    log4j.appender.console=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
    log4j.appender.console.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
    log4j.appender.console.layout.ConversionPattern=%-5r %-5p [%t] %c - %m%n
    If Macromedia ever gets around to putting out another release of JRun,
    hopefully they'll address these poor design decisions.

    Bill-
    I assume that you don't have access to JRun's log4j properties file so
    you can use it to set the Kodo logging parameters.
    You might be able to coerce JRun into using some logger of your own
    devising with the "org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory" system
    property. E.g., see:>>
    >
    http://www.solarmetric.com/Software/Documentation/3.0.0RC4/docs/manual.html#ref_guide_logging_custom
    There is currently no way to tell Kodo to use a separate logger on it's
    own: you will need to do it via the commons logging framework.
    Let us know if we can offer some more suggestions, if this one doesn't
    work.

    It crashed 3 seconds after it is running. Should be reading some jar file.
    Could be a something corrupted a zip file or something. Can you still do a java -version? You may want to try reinstalling 1.4.2_07

  • JRun and classpath

    All,
    I am going to run my applicaiton on JRun server and I need to use apache xml parser. Right now when I run my code, it got following error:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: org.w3c.dom.Node: method
    getNamespaceURI()Ljava/lang/String; not found java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:
    org.w3c.dom.Node: method getNamespaceURI()Ljava/lang/String; not found
    I know that it is due to JRun server is using its own xml parser and I should spcify the classpath to import my package first. But for some reason, I could NOT touch classpath for JRun server, so I need to figure out how I could specify the path of the package to point to my own parser instead of JRun's parser.
    Anyone can give me some suggestion?
    Thanks!

    1. Search this Forum and the 'Java Programming' forum
    2. try http://www.tomcat.apache.org

  • JRun and JWS

    Running my JNLP as a JSP under JRun, I put a block of Java code (<% code $>) in my "JNLP-as-JSP" file and noticed it is getting called 7-8 times before the applet (inside the JNLP-as-JSP file) is shown. Is JWS executing the JNLP-as-JSP file multiple times or is JRun somehow doing this?

    I get the same problem running JWS with a Tomcat 4.0 server. I noticed the problem when we tried to pass URL paramaters to the "JNLP-as-JSP" file. The first time, the parameters are there and we try to set properties using those parameters. However, the second, third, fourth... times the JSP file is called, the paramters are not there. Therefore, the last time it is called (which is the 8th time for us), the URL parameters are missing, the properties are not set, and the client ends up getting none of the properties we try to pass.
    Not sure why this happens, but if you change
    href="http://xxxx/xxxx"
    with
    href=""
    in the JNLP/JSP file, it only gets called once. However, your application no longer appears on the JWS console (and it never asks to create a shortcut on the desktop).
    I'm guessing it gets called multiple times because of some function of the cache manager.
    If you figure out why, and/or how to fix the problem, let me know.
    Thanks,
    -Rob

  • Multiple (200 +) processes with Jrun And Linux

    Hello,
    We have a server in our enviroment running the following:
    2.4.9-e.27smp linux kernel
    mysqld Ver 4.0.15-standard for pc-linux on i686
    java version "1.4.1_05"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
    1.4.1_05-b01)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_05-b01, mixed mode)
    47205 Oct 3 2003 jrun 4.0 updater 1a
    Starting the site with this command:
    su -c 'cd /usr/local/jrun/logs/df_nohup; nohup
    /usr/local/jrun/bin/jrun -config /usr/local/jrun/bin/df_jvm.config
    -start sitename &' userid
    We have 4 sites running on the machine each with the same
    command with the site names changed etc.
    Basicly when we start the sites each one generates 70+
    process each, usually when the server first comes up there will be
    240 + jrun process on it.
    We have a very similar configuration on our dev server, and
    it only starts 4 processes?
    Any ideas why this production server is generating so many
    processees?

    Thanks a lot for taking your precious time to review my code, Bogdan.
    I run an attempt using the additional flags you were suggesting but they didn't improve results.
    Your pointers to the DB Reference and C API sound a little bit like RTFM. In fact, I didn't read all the stuff there but a good portion of it before I was asking for help ;-) The FAQ entry I mentioned leads exactly to the "Architecting Transactional Data Store" topic.
    The code was modeled after the "The third way to architect Transactional Data Store applications is as a group of unrelated processes" using the DB_REGISTER flag.
    It seems to take a senior expert to get my simple requirement done :-(
    All I know now is I'm not alone:
    Problem with multiple processes and DB_REGISTER
    Re: Problem with multiple processes and DB_REGISTER
    Does anybody has the code for developing multi-process program .thank you.
    Re: does anybody has the code for developping multi-process program .thank you.
    Any more ideas what to try next?

  • Jsp, jrun and cookies

    I have i problem with ie6 and cookies
    We have a web server with jrun3.1 and database server sqlserver2000.
    For ie6, session variable is like a cookies and block it...
    When i use services from Web site "A" by using a frameset (or portal) on Web site "B", cookies that Web site A tries to set may be blocked at the default medium privacy level.
    The only way to solve this problem is to force the user to set your privacy level to low or to accept all cookies
    Is there any solution to solve this problem?
    Thanks for your answer.
    Pascal

    For ie6, session variable is like a cookies and block it...Not true at all. The session variable can be used just fine in IE6.
    I'm running the exact same setup as you, and I have never had any problems with accepting cookies on the default Medium privacy level, but a quick glimpse at the privacy settings shows...
    --Blocks third party cookies that do not have a compact privacy.
    --Blocks third party cookies that use personally identifiable information without your explicit consent.
    Your cookies need to either fit these restrictions, or else they will be blocked at this security setting. Setting it to low will allow the cookies, but the user will be prompted each time one is attempted to be saved.
    If you're attempting to access the session variable from one web server in another, you're opening up a whole new can of worms, since the session is much more than just a cookie stored on the client.

  • Using jrun and properties files

    For some reason my while deploying, the jsp cannot find the .properties file. I've tried putting it in almost every single directory on the server. Can anyone help???
    Thanks

    The .properties files must be in the classpath that JRun is using. There should be a <something>\classes directory in your CLASSPATH that JRun's using, try putting it in there.
    Take Care,
    Rob

  • Self Signing and Applets

    I have spent hours reading over the Signed Applets forum and Sun applet security training pages. There seems to be so much confusion in this area that the use and proliferation of Java Applets must be suffering.
    As the usual underfunded developer, I am not able to buy a certificate before proving the concept. Therefore, I am relegated to using self signed applets to demonstrate the use of signed applets and the power they have. This would also be the case for students of Java applets, of which I am also one.
    I have tried the sample applets in the Sun security training. They in fact write the file to my system, but they also display a security error as well.
    The Sun training indicates that I should be using a policy file with the security and that when my applet is run by another user, that user must also manually update their policy file, using keytool, before running the applet. If this is true, I see no use for Java Applets that work outside of the sandbox confines. There must be a better way to use applets that require security.
    I have also read Irene's 10 steps and numerous comments about them. They seem to work fine until I get to step 10. If I am using a self signed applet, why should the user of the applet have to click on a HREF to load the certificate into the keystore? Why shouldn't the user be prompted to trust the self signed certificate, just like a certificate obtained from a CA?
    I have tried to develop a batch file (Windows NT 4.0) to illustrate the signing process, but I have been unsuccessful. I have listed the output from it below followed by the batch file itself. Would someone please indicate what would make this batch file work? If possible, I would like it to work for both IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.06; especially ie 5.5.

  • CF 7.02 : jrun running out of control solutions anyone?

    we’re running ColdFusion 7.02 on a Windows 2003 production server(IIS 6) that appears to have a memory leak or coding issues or both. The jrun.exe will run up to 1.2 gig of usage and higher in task manager. Somewhere above 900mg of usage the CF processes will lock up causing us to have to stop jrun and let it restart or in some cases, reboot the server. Obviously, this plays havoc with our CF applications and pages.  In addition, we have also located what appears to be coding errors in the CF application logs. some examples are, ‘dividing by zero’, ‘items undefined’, ‘access page timers being exceeded’.  As we are not CF programmers on our side of the issue  we don’t always know what effect these errors have on the processes on the server. The logs have been forwarded to our application support/programming section and it appears some corrections have been made and are continuing to be made.  On Monday,7/18, we were required to restart jrun approx 14 times throughout the day and evening on this server. This slowed through the rest of the week up to this point with some specific times when it had to be restarted at approx 3-4 hundred meg, instead of 900mg to 1.2 gig.
    Update: many coding errors have been repaired over the last week and the high number of restarts has dropped but still present. On the ColdFusion side we have applied a hotfix 65335 which is suggested to work with the way jrun releases memory with file uploads. This didn’t appear to make any difference when applied but we suspect there is a problem with the path it was applied to. We are correcting that today.
    I have also looked at one of the CF updater files to try but in the past applying one of these may have fixed one error but created others.
    We are looking at the JVM version because I have seen in some of the blogs where there are a couple of less beneficial  versions and an upgrade can help. we’re at 1.4.2_09 but I’ve read where _13 or _19 would be better.
    We are in the process of testing applications in the CF 8.0 region that is setup (and making it a priority)but this won’t happen overnight. May take several weeks.
    Please, anyone who has seen similar errors with jrun in a 7.02 environment, can you offer some quick fix solutions, or even not-so-quick?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Check CF java logs around the time frame just before CF become unresponsive. CFMX7\runtime\logs\OUT and EVENT log.
    Perhaps JVM settings would be interesting?

  • Two related questions:  ColdFusion 10/Java applications and J2EE supported servers

    I have two related questions:
    1.  CF10 and integration with Java Web applications
    We have a couple of Java applications running on JRun and interfacing with CF9 applications.  The JRun clusters were created through the JRun Admin and, apart from lack of Axis 2.0 support, have served us well for years now.  And, as would be the case, the ColdFusion9/Java/Flash application is a critical public-facing application that the business uses for bidding on projects.
    It appears that with ColdFusion 10 on Tomcat, we will not be able to run those Java applications on a Tomcat-CF10 JVM cluster.  Is this correct?  IF so, what are our options?
    2.  J2EE Application Servers supported by Adobe for CF10
    Which of these is correct?
    A.  This URL (http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion-enterprise/faq.html) states "ColdFusion 10 supports IBM® WebSphere, Oracle® WebLogic, Adobe JRun, Apache Tomcat, and JBoss."
    B.  This URL (http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/coldfusion/pdfs/cf1 0/coldfusion10-support-matrix.pdf) states:
    "J2EE application servers: WebLogic Server 10.3, 11.1, WebSphere Application Server 7, ND 7 JBoss 5.1, 6.0, 7.1.0"
    I *think* "A" above is wrong re. support for Adobe JRun.  It does not specify a version of Apache Tomcat unless it is simply referring to the custom version the comes with CF10.
    Option "B" above shows no support of Adobe JRun or 'standard' Apache Tomcat.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Question 1 above was answered:  "No support for Java web applications under CF10's custom version of Tomcat"
    Question 2:  No answer yet:  Is Apache Tomcat (NOT Adobe's customized version) supported for CF10 J2EE deployment?  I do not see any installation instructions on how to install CF10 on Apache Tomcat 6 or 7.
    Is anybody using Apache Tomcat as their J2EE app servers and, again, NOT Adobe's customized/limited version?
    Thanks,
    Scott
